Chapter Two:
Welcome to the Galaxy, Flash.
Believe it or not, that's only the start. It will start gradually, but definitely will pick up speed, so to speak.
And now, enjoy!
Barry Allen sat nervously, under the gaze of the—what did they call themselves—Jedi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, as he'd introduced himself, began, "It seems that you've caused quite a disturbance, Mr. Allen."
Anakin snorted, "My old master is understating it, but what we'd like to know…who are you?"
"Well," Barry said, "Like I said, my name is Barry Allen, and I'm called the Flash."
Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow, "That's rather an unusual name, Mr. Allen."
"Well, yeah, it kind of explains what I can do."
Senator Organa, who was standing behind them, said, "That name, Masters, is an understatement. One of the men managed to record it. As much as he could, with how fast Mr. Allen can move."
He nodded at the trooper with a holo-disc, who activated the playback, which showed a red streak of lightning destroying droids, the scene of Barry throwing lightning at the bombers, and finally, the most unbelievable thing, a manmade tornado that decimated what was left of the legion.
The Jedi, and their accompanying commanders, Rex and Cody, all stood with degrees of shock and surprise and awe.
"Well…you've quite a gift, Mr. Allen," Obi-Wan turned to Barry, "And quite a mystery."
Anakin had to agree, "Yeah, I don't think we've ever had Jedi in our history capable of all of that."
"Well, what I can do," Barry shrugged, "It's not really a mystery to me, but the only mystery right now, I'm concerned with is where I ended up."
Anakin and Obi-Wan looked at each other then at Barry, "Perhaps we can exchange information, Mr. Allen, starting with your powers."
Barry was quiet for a few minutes, then sighed, "Well, I'm from the planet Earth, a world I'm pretty sure is far, far away from here. It's a place where the impossible had been happening as of late."
Barry gathered his thoughts, then said, "How I got my speed is kind of a long story, but I guess it started when I was eleven. I was pretty much an average kid, who ran from bullies just because they wanted my new shoes. My parents were Henry and Nora. He was a doctor, and she was a real-estate agent, which meant she sold houses." He explained at the confused looks, then continued, "There was nothing I wanted for. I got all I could ever wanted."
He then had a solemn look, "Then…one night, it happened. My mom had just tucked me in bed, and I'd begun to fall asleep, and then…I felt something was wrong, and I sat up and I saw the water from my fish tank had begun to raise. Then I got up and went downstairs, and I saw…a tornado of yellow and red lightning surrounding my mom."
The memories weren't still easy to relive, but they were easier to talk about, "I could see my mom telling me to stay back, and then…impossibly, I saw a blurry image of a yellow man with red eyes, before my dad came, and he told me to get out…just before I was somehow carried away at least 20 blocks. I had to run back to the house, for like, maybe an hour or two before I got back…just in time to see my dad being arrested by the police. And I ran into the house, to find my mom dead, and the man in yellow gone. I tried to explain that my dad wasn't responsible for her death. That the man in yellow was. But they didn't believe me. No one did."
Barry didn't notice the state Anakin was in, his story affecting him, with his mother being murdered by Tuskens, but he tried his best not to show it.
"I was taken in by a friend of my family, Joe West, who's a detective, and I grew up alongside his daughter, Iris…who is now my wife."
He thought about her and prayed that she was okay. Barry needed to get back to her.
"I wanted to clear my dad's name and get him out of prison, so I became a CSI—a crime scene investigator—basically, I work in forensics, solving crimes from a lab. I also developed an interest in all things science. And, well, one night, I had missed a chance to see this new invention work, called the 'Particle Accelerator,' supposedly, it was intended to power a city with clean energy and to change how we thought about science, about how it worked. But something went wrong. I was at the lab, just as the accelerator exploded from the lab, and sent out a cloud of dark matter, and there was a storm going on, and just as I was closing up the roof shutters, a bolt of lightning hit me, and I was thrown back against a shelf of chemicals. I was in a coma for nine months, and when I woke up…I got super-speed. I became the Flash."
Obi-Wan and Anakin had looks of disbelief at his story. If they hadn't seen the evidence of it, they would not have believed him.
"I see…" Obi-Wan said, "Your story sounds fascinating, Mr. Allen, but it doesn't explain what Anakin and I felt earlier. We experienced a…surge of power in the Force. And it had…interesting effects."
Barry was confused, "The Force? You mean the Speed Force? That's, well, that's my source. It's where I get my speed from." He demonstrated this by vibrating his hand, until there was sparking electricity all over it, "But I didn't know you knew about it."
Anakin and Obi-Wan were perplexed, "Well, no, Allen, the Force, or as we call it sometimes, the Cosmic Force is where we Jedi get our powers." Anakin showed this by levitating a crate and moving it toward a corner. Barry seemed a bit surprised, but not too, as he'd seen a lot of amazing things in his time.
"As it appears that you are unaware of the Force and how it works, Mr. Allen," Obi-Wan began, "We shall try to explain as much as we can. To begin with, the Force is an energy field created by living beings. It surrounds and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together. For as long as this galaxy has existed, the Force has existed, and it is the source of our power."
Barry absorbed this, "It sounds kinda like what the Speed Force is. It's…I don't know how to explain it…it's an extradimensional energy. I and other speedsters draw our speed from it, and how we can do impossible things. I…I guess, when I brought the Speed Force with me…it must have mixed with your Force."
Obi-Wan stroked his beard, "Interesting, and, even though we'd discovered much about the Force…it is still a mystery."
Anakin decided to move on, "You said you ended up here somehow. How?"
Barry gathered his thoughts, "Well…what do you know about the multiverse?"
The group was confused. "Multiverse?" Obi-Wan parroted.
"Well, uh…there are basically universes out there, if we were on Earth, I could probably explain it better, if you had any history of it, but… well…"
Barry zipped out of his chair, and a minute later, having found what he was looking for, a marker. He started dribbling circles and words on the wall behind the chair he'd sat on, "The best to explain it is that in many universes, it comes right down to choice… random choice…like on another Earth—the planet I come from, in another universe, the Industrial Age never happened and we're stuck in a time of progress… or on another Earth, a group of fascists called the Nazis won their Earth's second world war, or…another Earth, where I grew up in the 1960s, and got my speed 30 years earlier. Basically, the possibilities were endless."
Obi-Wan was fascinated by this explanation, yet he couldn't help noticing the past tense, "Were?"
Barry sighed, "Yeah. There was a Crisis that threatened the multiverse. A villain named the Anti-Monitor was murdering entire universes. I was recruited with other heroes to stop the Anti-Monitor from destroying our Earths. We managed to stop him at the dawn of time, but something happened at the end, and…I ended up here…and I get the feeling that I'm not the only one who ended up in this galaxy."
"'Other heroes?'" Obi-Wan repeated, "So you are not the only one who has come here."
Barry nodded, "Yeah, there are others, actually, I'm not sure if they all came into this galaxy or other galaxies. I have no idea what happened to them or even where to start looking. I wish I had Gideon—"
They all jumped at the voice that was coming from Barry's suit, "I am here, Mr. Allen. How may I help?"
From Barry's right hand, an image of a female looking holographic head with blank eyes appeared.
"Gideon? How—?" Barry was befuddled, as were the others in the room.
It was Rex who said, "What in the kriffing hell is that?"
Barry was distracted from his confusion, "Oh, this is Gideon, she's what we call AI—artificial intelligence. We constructed her to help with problems," he turned back to the AI's image in his hand, "Gideon, what are you doing in my suit?
"Mr. Ramon installed me into your suit, in anticipation of the crisis. I was to assist you in situations should Mr. Ramon be unable to. When you spoke my name, I activated," she turned her holographic head, "I take it we are not where we are supposed to be."
Barry scratched his head, looking at the others, "Yeah, you could say that. Can you bring up the pictures of the other Paragons, please?"
"As you wish," Gideon replied before her image vanished and pictures of the Paragons appeared with the names of their roles under them.
"I called them Paragons, because that was what we were supposed to be, in order to save the universe. I'll explain the Paragon things in more detail, but these guys are who I was with before we all landed here."
Barry flicked the first picture, which was that of one of his closest friends, "Kara Danvers, who's called Supergirl. She's essentially our most powerful Paragon. If you thought some of the things I did were unbelievable, you should see some of the things she can do. Gideon, can you bring up some videos of her?"
"Yes, Mr. Allen," they heard Gideon's voice before videos appeared, showing the Jedi and the clones a display of her abilities in events like the Dominator invasion, and the Earth-X adventure. Flight, strength, invulnerability to conventional weapons, her eyes emitting blue beams, what Barry said, she called her heat vision, and her freezing things with a blow of breath.
"She can also see through things, which we call x-ray vision, and her hearing is pretty powerful, too."
Anakin whistled at that, "We definitely could use someone like that on our side. War would probably be over before we know it."
The next picture was of a woman in black and wearing a red wig and a mask with odd ears, with a bat-like cape, and a red bat. There were bat species in the galaxy, such as chirodactyls on Dathomir and Loth-bats on Lothal.
The videos displayed her combat skills, and her arsenal of weaponry, which seemed to be non-lethal. The bat-like red throwing weapons seems interesting.
Barry continued, "This is Kate Kane, and her code name is Batwoman. She's pretty much a normal person, except, you know, she fights like a badass, and she, uh, dresses up like a bat."
Anakin snorts at that last part, as the next picture came up, that of J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter. The next videos were pretty straightforward; his shape shifting ability seemed to outstrip those of a Clawdite or other shapeshifters, and he has flight and and strength, but what shocked them was his phasing through walls and objectives, and turning invisible. Obi-Wan concluded that it could be tied in with his shape shifting ability.
"What this doesn't show is that he can read minds, which is probably his best ability."
The next picture was a blonde woman in an all-white suit and batons, and her skills were comparable to that of Jedi, as was this Batwoman's.
"Sara Lance, better known as the White Canary, is a former assassin, who turned her skills on fighting crime, like the rest of us. She's the captain of a group called the Legends of Tomorrow. She basically said that they mess things up for the better."
Obi-Wan and Anakin didn't feel all that comfortable with that statement. Barry left out the time-travel part, since he figured it was Sara's story more than his, and they'd had enough to deal as it was.
"If I know Sara, it's probably not hard to find her signature, which is a lot of mayhem, wherever she is."
The next picture was an average Asian man, "His name is Dr. Ryan Choi. He's a physicist, and he was recruited to be a Paragon of Humanity, but he's a civilian who got drawn into this thing, and I kind of feel guilty, because he has a wife and a baby daughter, so I want to find him and get him as soon as possible."
They all nodded as Barry brought up the next picture, this one of a man in a green leather suit with a hood and a mask, with a bow and arrow aimed at a target, "This is maybe the best man I've ever known. His name is Oliver Queen, and he calls himself the Green Arrow," The accompanying videos showed his martial arts skills and bow. He's even showed hitting a target from long distances. The Jedi and clones could all see the intensity in his green eyes, masked as they were, "It's kind of complicated, but Oliver was the man who saved us all, before we ended up here. I don't know where he is, or even if he's alive."
Barry moved on to the next picture, that of a bald man with a beard. The thing that struck everyone in the room is his smile. And his eyes. Whoever he is, he was not a good person.
"This is Lex Luthor," Barry said, his tone deadly serious, "He's maybe the most dangerous man alive you'll ever meet. He's a genius, maybe the biggest one, and he hates aliens in every way. Just prior to our arrival, Luthor had manipulated things so that he would take the role of the Paragon of Truth from the man who originally had it, just to save his own skin. According to my friend, Kara, he has tried to kill her and her cousin, Superman, many times. She said, one time he turned our sun red, just to render Superman powerless, regardless of the great risks to Earth. And at his trial, Lex killed everyone in the courtroom…just because he said, 'Superman made me do it. He should be the one who's on trial.'"
He turned off the image, "He's as important to find, because, wherever he ends up, he won't be up to anything good."
Anakin and Obi-Wan absorbed this information, "If we find this man, Mr. Allen, be assured that he shall be contained until we find a way to return you all home."
Barry nodded, "Now my turn, I guess. Um, what exactly are Jedi and what do you guys do?"
Obi-Wan smiled, "Well, now I believe we shall all take seats, this will be rather a long story,"
Barry sat in a room provided for him, while he could figure out his next move. Right now, his hosts, Obi-Wan and Anakin, were out there with their commanders on a mission. He'd been wrong when he thought these men were triplets or siblings. They were clones, apparently created to fight a war. He frowned at that. He didn't like that. They seemed to be independently thinking.
Too anxious about his situation, and worried about his friends in this galaxy and back home, Barry decided to take a walk around the base. He passed many clones who gave him looks of curiosity and awe, many whispering among themselves.
Barry nodded at the clones he'd passed, uncomfortable with the sudden fame. Of course, he was used to the fame back home, but right now, he wasn't comfortable being praised for the job he did.
He entered what appeared to be the mess hall, full with clone soldiers, who stopped what they were doing when they saw him. Barry went to get a tray and got what seemed edible.
He sat down at an empty table and tested the food he'd gotten from the cook and was glad to see it was at least edible. After he got done with the first tray, he grabbed two other trays, and loaded them up, much to the astonishment of the clones. Being a speedster with a fast-burning metabolism meant Barry needed to eat to keep his energy up. He hadn't forgotten about his early days, including his dizzy spells, which came from not eating enough.
He started eating, thinking about how Cisco would freak out about his being in a whole new galaxy, which apparently was at war. He'd managed to get some new information about the war, how some worlds separated from the Republic, and formed their own government, and their differences were too difficult to settle, before they exploded into war. He looked around at the clones, who went back to their business, though they stole glances at him.
He looked up as a clone approached him, "Hey, there. I've seen you before…when you clearly stole these clothes when I wasn't looking."
Barry thought for a moment, before remembering, "Oh, yeah, sorry about that. I just found myself in a situation I didn't know about, and—"
The clone held up a hand, "Given what you did for me and the boys, Allen, I'll let it pass. I'm Star,"
Barry chuckled, "I could kinda tell from that patch on your shoulder."
Star smiled, as Barry pointed at the blue star patch he'd put there on his right shoulder, "They call me that because I always liked to look at the stars."
Star sat himself in front of Barry, "So word around here is, you got fast from..being hit by lightning?"
Barry shrugged, "Well, yeah. I know it sounds crazy, but that's what happened to me."
Star nodded, "I've seen the Jedi do crazy things. In fact, I've seen General Skywalker do things crazier than others."
"Oh, yeah, what he's like?" Barry asked, curious.
"Well, he dives into the fight, and I heard up there that General Skywalker drew tracking torpedoes to the command ship, while we were fighting on the ground battle. Pretty crazy, right?"
Barry shrugged, "Well, I don't work too often with my friend, Sara, but I've heard that she and her team have done some really crazy things."
Star raised an eyebrow, "Well, from what I've heard about some of the 501st boys, it sounds like she would get along with them."
Barry considered that, "Probably."
Just then, Obi-Wan and Anakin showed up, "I see you're getting along well with the troopers, Mr. Allen."
"Barry, please," he said, "And yeah, Star here was telling me about you and Anakin, General."
Obi-Wan smiled wryly, "Nothing bad, I trust?"
Barry shrugged, "Just the truth. How was the mission?"
Anakin frowned, "Not as well as I'd have liked. The droids knew we were there, just as we were about to attack them."
Obi-Wan added, "Captain Rex and Commander Cody are investigating. We thought we'd check with you before we returned there."
Anakin eyed the trays, "That's quite a lot of food, Allen."
Barry looked back at the food, "Yeah, it's a downside to having super-speed. My metabolism burns food faster than a normal person's. I have to eat a lot of carbs to keep up my energy."
"My word, your grocery bill must be quite high," Obi-Wan replied half-jokingly.
"You have no idea," Barry wiped his mouth, before standing up and disposing of the trays, "Mind if I tag along? I'm going a little stir crazy sitting around here until you get in touch with… the Council on…Crossiant?"
"Coruscant," Anakin corrected, "And we've been in contact with them about your situation, but right now, they've got a lot keeping them busy, and we're being busy right now with our retaking this planet."
Obi-Wan continued from there, "They've been made aware of how…unique you are, and they are also quite curious about this 'Speed Force,' you spoke of, and the changes it's caused in our own Force."
Barry was curious about it, as well, "You said you felt surges of power, every time I used my speed?"
"It was even visible," Anakin replied, "Even gave me…a push when I was up there."
"How? I didn't think the Speed Force would work like that?"
"As you've told us, there still is much you do not know about your 'Speed Force,'" Obi-Wan replied, as the trio walked out of the mess hall, "As, even after thousands of years, there are still mysteries about the Force."
"And now something new, as we've never seen before, has been thrown into the mixture," Anakin added, "and we still don't know how big the side effects to it."
Barry shrugged, "I guess we'll find out what together."
They entered the command room, just as Rex slammed the table, "Blast!"
"Well, at least we're not the only ones having a bad day," Kenobi said wryly.
"Generals," the clones greeted the Jedi, then their newcomer, "Allen."
Cody began the briefing, "They had all our intel."
"That would explain the ambush," Obi-Wan turned to look at the planning panel.
"How could we have left ourselves so vulnerable to a security breach?" Anakin asked Cody.
Obi-Wan pondered, then said, "I don't think we did."
Anakin got where his old mentor was coming from, "You think someone infiltrated our defenses?"
"Possibly," Obi-Wan returned, "It would have to be someone cunning and resourceful enough to gain access to all our plans."
"But that still wouldn't explain how they got our intel."
"No, you're right," Obi-Wan agreed, "They wouldn't act alone. They'd have someone working with them."
"A spy, sir?" Cody asked, alarmed, "But who would want to betray our troops to the Seppies?"
"Excellent question, Commander. Perhaps it's time we made a visit behind enemy lines. I think we'll find our answers there."
"We'll get right on it," Rex said.
"No, Captain," Obi-Wan shot that down, "I need you here to find the security breach."
Barry was silent through the discussion, "Mind if I came along?"
Obi-Wan considered it, but shook his head, "No, Barry, you don't know the area, and it's best that you stayed here, until we get you to Coruscant."
Barry sighed, but agreed, as he knew he was out of his depth.
Obi-Wan turned to the clones, "One more thing. This mission is extremely confidential. The spy could be anyone. Let no one know of our mission."
Rex nodded, "Understood, sir."
Barry and the Jedi walked out.
After saying good luck to the Jedi, Barry was on his way back to his room a few minutes later, when he heard Cody running down the hall. Barry was confused, so he ran (slowly for him) after the commander, and they stopped, just as Rex came up, aiming his blaster at them, but he lowered it, having seen them. They stopped, and the captain looked at the door in front of them, "He must have gone in the mess hall."
Holstering his blaster, he opened the door. They went in and looked around.
Cody looked around, "we've got a big problem."
Rex looked grim, "Yeah. The only people in here are brothers."
Barry realized the same, "The spy is a clone," he whispered to the others.
Rex nodded, "Come on, let's get back."
Rex still couldn't believe it, "One of us? Great. But which one?"
Cody had to admit this was difficult, considering that they all shared the same face, "We'll have to wait for his next move. Keep this to ourselves."
Rex nodded, "Better contact the Jedi."
His follow clone nodded, "I'm on it."
The little astromech was beeping curiously, and Barry couldn't understand what it was saying.
"I could probably look around, see what I can find," he offered.
Rex considered it, "No, Allen, your light show could alert the spy. Better you stick around, and uh, not move too much."
Barry sighed but nodded.
Cody frowned, "We can't reach General Kenobi. Whoever it is has blocked our communications."
Barry frowned, worriedly, "If it's a trap, I should probably go warn the generals."
Before either clone could object, Barry was gone leaving only a trail of lightning.
Rex sighed, "I don't know who's worse, General Skywalker or Allen."
Cody nodded, "With our comms down, we're gonna have to find this guy ourselves."
Rex thought for a moment, then turned to the astromech, "Artoo, come over here and plug in."
Artoo, still processing what had just occurred, turned to the clone and beeped, as he rolled over.
"What are you doing?" Cody asked.
"The guard got his messages out there somehow. We just gotta find them."
"What do you think?" Cody sarcastically asked, "He just sat down and wrote a note?"
"You have to start somewhere."
The droids on the bridge overlooking the road kept watch after having allowed the Jedi to pass them, "Nothing out of the ordinary, Commander."
"Let's make sure it stay that way. Our orders were to let the Jedi pass, nothing else."
Just then, they saw a weird thing…lightning was…racing the road they watching.
"…"
"…"
"…"
"Sir…I seem to have a malfunction with my optical systems. Was that… lightning that just passed us by?"
The droid in charge was silent for a moment, then; "We saw nothing, 219-OM. That's what we'll tell the commander. Clear?"
The droids all replied, "Roger, roger."
Cody approached Rex, as he was looking at the data pad in his hand, "What is it? Is it the traitor?"
"I'm not sure," he said to his brother, as he studied the data, "Maybe."
Cody looked over his shoulder, "Well, what is he looking for?"
Rex pointed to the screen, "Wavelength interference, weak frequencies, spotty, irregular. See how it shows up every few days, then disappears? Day to day, you wouldn't notice it."
Artoo beeped in affirmation.
Cody was confused for a bit as Rex explained, "It's the pattern. The band's only coming off one terminal in the whole base."
"Check it out," he handed over the pad.
Cody hummed as he saw where it was, "Slick's barracks. Only Slick's men would have access to that terminal."
"Yeah," Rex replied grimly, "Slick's not going to like that."
"No," Cody agreed, "he's not. But if one of his men is giving away our intel, we must find him and sort this out."
Anakin and Obi-Wan arrived at the building they'd about identified as the Separatists' headquarters and stepped off their speeders.
They were already suspicious by the ease of how they entered enemy territory, and even so when they'd arrived.
"No guards, no barricades. Huh," Anakin wryly pointed out, "You'd think the Separatists' headquarters would be better protected."
Obi-Wan had to agree with that, "But clearly, keeping us out is not what they intend."
Having said that, the seasoned Jedi Master opened the doors with the Force, and they cautiously entered the building.
Obi-Wan and Anakin looked around, keeping an eye for any traps that they knew were there, but were unseen, as they approached the elevator. They entered, and Anakin pressed the button, as the doors closed.
The Flash searched the area where he'd saw the Jedi had gone into, having by now increased his speed so the droids wouldn't see his approach, let alone the lightning he usually left behind. Though he was sure that they had sensors that would probably detect the energy he gave off when running. He finally found the speeders, and seeing that the Jedi had gone up, probably in an elevator. Barry began running up the building, hoping to find them.
Obi-Wan and Anakin arrived at the top floor, where they found a library of sorts.
"So this is the belly of the beast," Anakin commented, as he sensed someone approaching from behind.
The hooded figure walked around the Jedi until they were in front of them, removing their hood to reveal a pale-skinned bald woman with blue markings between her chin.
"Ventress," Obi-Wan smiled, "And here I thought this mission would be unpleasant."
Assajj Ventress gave them a sinister smirk, "The pleasure is all mine, my dear Obi-Wan."
Anakin had to resist the urge to roll his eyes. Every time they'd run into Ventress, it went borderline into flirting, as he saw the assassin removing her hooded cloak.
She pulled her lightsabers off her magnetic belt, igniting them, her sinister smirk still in place in their red glow, as the Jedi ignited their azure blue lightsabers.
She moved up the stairs to gain the high ground, "My loyal informant let me know you were coming."
Obi-Wan smiled, "Well, then, we thank you for your hospitality."
Anakin moved at almost the same time Ventress did, their lightsabers clashed in flashes of red and blue colors.
Ventress kept Skywalker on the defense, as Obi-Wan moved in.
She kept them on the defense, with Anakin and Obi-Wan moving as a well-oiled machine, and seeing that she needed a distraction to keep them off-balance, she used the Force to lift a piece of debris, and hurl it towards Kenobi, who carved it in half.
Ventress leapt backwards towards the stairs, running by a bookshelf, and lifting her arm, she pulled the books out, and threw them towards Obi-Wan and Anakin, who stopped the books from moving forward, and with Anakin's help, Obi-Wan hurled the books back at her.
They threw her onto her backside, and she was sitting up, just as the Jedi duo approached her.
"Give up, Ventress," the elder Jedi said.
Ventress smirked sarcastically as she crossed her legs, "I'm all yours, Obi-Wan."
As they moved closer to her, Ventress ignited her lightsabers and used the Force to bring the floor beneath them down, causing both of the Jedi to fall.
That was when Ventress felt it before she saw it…the same surge of energy, just before a trail of lightning appearing, then moved towards Kenobi and Skywalker, who suddenly vanished and reappeared across the newly made hole, before she felt an impact in her chest that shoved her off her feet and she crashed against the wall. Ventress was dazed for a moment, but she thought she was seeing things when the lightning suddenly appeared in the form of a man dressed in a strange, red form-tight uniform, and he was masked, his cowl had wings on each side of his head, with a golden circle on his chest with a lightning bolt in the middle.
She sensed the strange energy she had felt the other day coming from him. And he…moved so fast, that she couldn't react, even with the Force warning her.
"I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're the bad guy," the stranger said with a smirk.
Ventress glared at this impudent fool, and gave him a Force push, throwing him off and into the two Jedi, who managed to turn off their lightsabers before he crashed into them.
She ignited her lightsabers again and leaped forward, but when she landed, the trio were gone in a flash of lightning, and her lightsabers only penetrated through the floor.
She turned her head, to see the stranger in red, flanked by the Jedi, their lightsabers already at the ready.
She didn't know what was going on, but she knew when she was outnumbered, and outfought…at least on the inside, so she opted to use the Force to shatter the window, and hurl the broken glass at the trio, and the fast-moving man easily caught the glass pieces, before they could skewer the Jedi.
It gave her the time to leap outside, and she landed atop the war droid that had climbed up, and she heard a whoosh sound, followed by the crackle of lightning. She turned around to see her new enemy already pursuing her, followed by the relatively fast-moving Jedi.
They stopped short, seeing the army of droids and vehicles out in the front.
"You didn't tell us you were bringing friends," Obi-Wan said wryly.
"I could tell you the same, Obi-Wan, who's your friend?"
"I'm the Flash, and the good guy," the stranger replied.
The Flash? What a ridiculous name, Ventress thought, yet it seems to fit him and his strange powers.
She decided to throw them off, "It doesn't matter anyway, you've served your purpose,"
It was Anakin who made the realization first, "We need to get back. Now."
"Flash" pointed at the smoke in the horizon, "That's coming from the base. This was a diversion."
"Very observant, 'Flash,' Ventress said smugly, "Betrayal is such a hard thing to take, isn't it? And now we're about to take control of this world."
She turned to give the attack order, but she heard that whoosh sound again, and turned back to find them gone, and she saw a trail of lightning going downwards, then into the direction of the base camp.
She jumped down and ordered, "Prepare to march on the city. Delay the Jedi as long as possible."
She then walked towards the waiting ship, "And establish a connection to Count Dooku. Now. My master must learn of this new development."
Barry and the Jedi arrived at the base. Anakin and Obi-Wan dry-heaved, their hands on their knees, "Well, that was an interesting experience."
"I'll say," Anakin coughed, "It's a good thing I didn't eat yet."
The Flash smirked, as they surveyed the damage on the base, "Looks like whoever it was did a good job taking out the ships," he observed.
The Jedi grimly looked around, as they walked towards the command center, Anakin tapping on his comm, "Rex, come in, can you read me?"
The answer came almost immediately, "Yes, General. We've found the spy and we have him in custody now."
"We'll be right there," Obi-Wan said, and signed off, as he led the group into the building.
They came up, just as Captain Rex escorted a clone out of the briefing room, "I think freedom's gonna have to wait, kid."
"Slick?," Obi-Wan exclaimed in disbelief, "It was you?"
"He gave us a bit of a chase, sir," Rex reported.
"You couldn't be a greater disappointment," Anakin said, "How could you do this to your brothers?"
Slick scoffed scornfully, "Only a Jedi would ask that. It's the Jedi who keep my brothers enslaved. We do your bidding. We serve at your whim. I just wanted something more."
Rex didn't go for it, "And all you had to get it was put the rest of us all at risk."
"I…I love my brothers," Slick defended, "You're too blind to see it, but I was striking a blow for all clones."
"If you loved your brothers," Commander Cody said, "you wouldn't have put them at risk."
"You didn't betray the Jedi," Rex said, his contempt for Slick clear, "You betrayed every one of us."
"Take him to lockup," Cody ordered the guards standing by. They all watched as Slick was escorted away.
"Were you able to salvage anything from the weapons depot?" Obi-Wan asked Rex and Cody, stroking his beard.
"Slick pretty much scorched the whole thing. That seemed to be what he was going for all along."
"We managed to save the heavy cannons, though."
"Well, that's good," Obi-Wan said, "Because there are about a thousand battle droids on their way here."
"The fight goes on, gentlemen," Anakin said, and they turned and left them, with Barry following them, but he looked back at the clones. This war seemed more complicated than he originally believed. He didn't like it, but this Slick had a point, he'd seen some non-clone officers treat them as if they were weapons and tools, during his time here.
Barry could only hope that, while he was here, he might help them.
Somewhere on Tatooine, a Rodian named Greedo and a Weequay named Rook were driving on a speeder, drinking it up and laughing, shooting their blasters into the night sky, and even shot at some lizard animals.
Just then, Greedo noticed something that looked like a man laying on the desert ground. He shook his partner's shoulder, shouting in Huttese, "Hey, we got an idiot over there sleeping. Ain't he know that this is Jabba's territory?"
Rook turned to look at what Greedo was pointing at, "Yeah. Hell, the whole planet is Jabba's territory. C'mon, let's remind him of it."
They stopped the speeder and got out, walking toward the unconscious man. As they looked closer, he was dressed in some weird black uniform, complete with a cape.
"This guy looks fancy. Rich fancy. Maybe he's got money." Greedo said, living up to his name.
"Yeah, come on, let's wake this sleemo up." Rook kicked him in the ribs, shaking the fancy guy in black.
The man blinked his eyes, shaking his head, and he got up, and turned around to face them, revealing more of him. He was a dark-skinned man, and his uniform had some weird horizonal cross on his chest.
They could tell that he was confused, but then looked at their blasters, and he became more alert, as he spoke in Basic, "Could either of you tell me where I am?
Greedo came up, jamming his blaster, "You don't ask questions, sleemo. We ask them."
After a few seconds of confusion, but then Greedo saw his eyes…growing red for a second, before returning to normal, and then he began to speak their language, "I apologize if I seem confused, but I have no idea—"
Greedo jammed his blaster under his chin, "Shut up! I don't know how you did that but—"
The Rodian stopped short at the look in his eyes, then he shoved Greedo away, crashing into Rook, and then they recovered their wits, and started shooting their blasters at the weird freak…who impossibly glowed red, and then turned intangible. Then whatever mouths they had dropped to the ground with him, who then sank into the ground, like a…a ghost!
Before they could move, the guy in black came up behind them all of a sudden, and grabbed their heads, even as his head started changing…into a green-colored head with glowing red eyes. Greedo would've thought that he was a Clawdite, but he never saw one doing what this freak was doing.
And then he knew no more.
J'onn Jonzz used his telepathy to take control of his would-be attackers. He let go of them, and they turned around to face him.
"Now," J'onn began, "Maybe we can start over again. Again, where am I?"
The repiltian looking man spoke in that odd language, "You're on Tatooine. A desert planet."
J'onn pondered that, and he asked, "And how far am I from Earth?"
Even though they were blank-faced, he could sense their confusion.
"We don't know any planet named Earth," the spike-faced man said, "Who named a world after dirt?"
So J'onn was far, far from his home system, he surmised. Maybe even a galaxy away.
"And what can you tell me of this planet?"
It was the repitian who answered, "Tatooine is run by Jabba the Hutt. He pretty much runs the whole system."
J'onn then gathered a few more facts, about this Jabba, and the galaxy he was in. Apparently the Hutts were some sort of a crime family, to coin the phrase from back on Earth. And that he lived in a palace. He almost rolled his eyes at that, but focused on the task.
"Could you gentlemen lead me to this palace?" he inquired his "hosts".
JThey both nodded, and then walked to the speeder, with J'onn following them, having shifted back to his human face.
As he got into the back of the speeder, the Rodian called Greedo gunned it and off they went towards Jabba's palace. When they arrived, J'onn would release his hold on them, with no memory of their experience.
Well, J'onn mused to himself, I can say one thing; I've found myself in an interesting situation.
He could only hope that the others were alive and well. Little did he know that he would encounter one of his friends again soon in an unexpected way.
Another chapter done and gone.
I've come up with quite a few ideas since then. Sorry for the long wait. I've been busy, AND I've been lacking the motivation, which has happened to a lot of writers. But anyway, I hope you like this latest update. Please review and comment!
