Chapter 1: Settling In
I don't own Digimon or Harry Potter.
With a faint crack and flash of light, Daisuke Ainsworth, her cousin Jun, her newly adopted brother Harry Potter, her Digimon partner Veemon and her parents Natsumi and Alexander appeared in front of their home in Japan. "Well, that was fun…." Veemon groaned, the Digimon falling to his knees as his cheeks turned slightly green.
"Sorry about that. But it was the fastest way to leave King's Cross Station and get home," Alexander apologised while pocketing an old compass and walking to the front door.
"Ya ready to see your new home, Harry?" Jun asked, ruffling the young boy's hair.
Harry shyly smiled and nodded. "Yeah," he replied as Hedwig hooted excitedly from her cage.
"That had best not become common," Salem grumbled, the cat glaring from inside his cage at the snowy white owl.
"Don't worry, Salem. She'll be able to fly out whenever she chooses now. So she won't bother you all the time," Daisuke reassured him with a smile as the family entered their house with all their luggage.
Once everything had been brought inside, Natsumi and Alexander smiled briefly before turning to Harry. "Follow us to your room, sweetie," Natsumi told him, gently taking his hand. He nodded, and they walked off, soon arriving at the spare bedroom beside Daisuke's room.
"Now, we've not refurbished anything yet. But tomorrow we're planning on going shopping for everything your room will need," Alexander told him as he opened the door, and Harry saw his new room. It was huge, bigger than his old room at the Dursley's house by a lot, there were no bars on the window, and the sun was shining through the curtains.
"It's brilliant," Harry said with a wide smile. He turned and hugged Natsumi and then Alexander around the middle. "Thank you…"
"No problem, son," he replied softly. "Now, you'll be sleeping in Daisuke's room tonight. Hope that's all right," he said, looking at his daughter standing in the doorway with Veemon in her arms.
"Of course," Daisuke chirped with a grin. They then heard Veemon's stomach growl and the Digimon blushed red in embarrassment.
"Um, can we eat now?" Veemon asked sheepishly.
"Veemon, ya ate a bunch of snacks while on the train," Daisuke sighed.
"Well yeah, but that was an hour ago. I'm hungry again," her partner whined. "I'm a Digimon, ya know,"
"Ah yes, Digimon having bottomless stomachs; how could I forget," Daisuke sighed sarcastically, making her partner grin. "Come on then, let's go see if mama has any food in the fridge,"
Natsumi giggled and followed her daughter and Veemon, and they passed Jun, who had some of her school textbooks in her arms.
"Good thing I don't have a Digimon partner to worry about," Jun said with a grin as she walked to her room.
"Just for that, Veemon and I are going to eat your jelly doughnuts," Daisuke shouted as she and Veemon ran off to the kitchen with a laugh.
"Don't even think about it, you twerps!" Jun shouted, dropping her books and running after them down the hallway while Harry and Alexander watched them go.
"Girls, don't use any magic in this house!" Alexander called before he sighed, rubbing his eyes while Harry giggled softly. "Never have daughters or nieces," he told Harry as the two walked off to the kitchen, hoping to get some food before all of it was gone.
After dinner, Harry, Veemon, and Daisuke were in Daisuke's bedroom chatting. "So, what do you think of the family so far?" Daisuke asked with a smile, laying on her bed with Veemon in her arms while Harry lay on the floor in a sleeping bag.
"They're amazing. You guys have been nice to me since we met in Diagon Alley before our first year." Harry answered. "You guys are so much better than the Dursleys,"
"Well, with luck, you won't ever have to see them again. What they did to you last year…." Daisuke said with a frown, remembering how she had seen the bruises over Harry's body from the beating he took at the hands of his uncle.
"It's in the past," Harry replied softly.
Daisuke frowned softly and sat up in her bed. "You know, if you'd like, Veemon and I could introduce you to the other Digidestined before we all visit the Digital World one day," she said.
"Really? That's allowed?" Harry asked her.
"Yep, as long as you're with us, you'll be fine," Daisuke chirped. "The Digital World is completely safe now. All the bad guys wanting to take it over or destroy it have long been defeated. And this will give you a chance to meet my other friends and their Digimon partners,"
"Yeah. I'm sure the others will be happy to meet you," Veemon told Harry, who smiled.
"Sure, that sounds great," he said before yawning.
"Come on, time to sleep." Daisuke giggled as she got comfy in bed with Veemon, and Harry laid down in his sleeping bag, closed his eyes, and quickly fell asleep.
The following day, Natsumi and Harry made breakfast for everyone in the kitchen. Natsumi insisted that Harry didn't need to do that anymore since he no longer lived with his aunt and uncle, but he said he liked cooking and wanted to help around the house wherever he could.
By the time both finished cooking and set the table, Daisuke walked toward the dining table, dragging her feet as she rubbed her eyes and yawned, her hair a spiky mess with Veemon still half asleep as he climbed into his chair.
"Good morning," Harry greeted them as he handed them a glass of juice.
"Mornings are evil…" both hissed in unison. Harry chuckled slightly before he walked over to Hedwig, who was resting on her new stand in the living room by the window.
"Morning girl," he said, feeding the owl some treats when she hooted and looked at him. "When can she go and fly around?" he asked.
"Soon, but it'll have to be after we return from our shopping trip today," Natsumi answered. "We'll be gone most of the day buying everything you'll need for your new room,"
"I could write some letters and have Hedwig deliver them to my friends. They'll probably want to know if I made it here all right," Harry replied.
"Good idea," Jun said as she sat at the dining table. "That way, she'll get some exercise. She has been looking plumper recently."
Hedwig hooted loudly and clacked her beak. "I think she didn't like that comment," Harry said before he quickly wrote some letters to his friends.
"Let's hope Dobby doesn't interfere with the mail again," Daisuke muttered, and Veemon nodded in agreement.
Soon, they all had finished eating breakfast, and Hedwig hooted as she flew out the window. Several letters were wrapped around her leg, and she set off on her delivery mission.
"Is everyone aware of what we'll be doing today?" Alexander asked as he slipped on his coat and hat while waiting for the others at the door.
"Jun and I will be shopping for Harry's clothing in both the magical district and regular shops," Natsumi said with a smile.
"And we'll be helping you shop for other things Harry would like," Daisuke chirped as she held Demi-Veemon in her arms while standing beside Harry, smiling softly at her and the others.
"Thank you. But you guys don't have to do that for me," he said softly.
"Nonsense, you're part of the family now. It's no trouble for us," Alexander said, ruffling the boy's hair. "Now come along. Let's get going."
"Don't worry, Harry, you'll thank us later," Jun promised him, winking with a smile as the family left the house.
Soon, Harry's head was on a swivel as he walked through a large shopping complex downtown. His eyes were wide as he tried to take in everything he saw, even if he couldn't understand everything due to having not learned Japanese. "Careful, or else your head will fall off," Daisuke warned him with a giggle.
He flushed and sheepishly smiled. "Sorry. I've just never seen something like this before."
"I know. It's awesome," Demi-Veemon said, riding atop Daisuke's head as his partner frowned.
"I thought we agreed you wouldn't say a word and pretend to be a stuffed animal?" she asked.
"Well yeah, but nobody's watching us," he replied with a cute pout.
"You still should be careful. Not everyone in Odaiba has come to terms with Digimon being real yet. Remember, for the past couple of years, there have been Digimon causing havoc around the world." She cautioned him.
She then grabbed Harry's hand and pulled him through a crowd of people as they tried to keep up with her father as he walked into one of the shops quickly.
"I can tell we're probably going to be exhausted by the end of the day," Harry said as they entered the shop.
"No kidding. Good thing we're on holiday and can sleep in tomorrow," Daisuke said with a relieved smile.
"Just because it's the holiday doesn't mean you can slack off in your studies," Alexander said, appearing behind the two kids, making them jump in shock. "I expect you both to be doing your homework and finishing it before the last week. We don't want you rushing to finish and getting in trouble for poor work handed in. Professor Snape and Professor McGonagall will not take kindly to that." He warned.
"Aw, man," Daisuke whined.
"Don't whine, young lady. The same goes for you, Harry," he continued before smiling. "Now then, follow me. We're off to the next shop," he said, holding up a bag of items before he turned and left.
"How did he…." Harry trailed off.
"Don't ask," Daisuke groaned, rubbing her eyes. "Just don't ask, and you'll keep your sanity." She turned and walked off, and Harry followed while Demi-Veemon giggled at his partner's pout.
Several hours soon flew by, most of it spent shopping, and the four eventually returned to the Ainsworth family home and saw Jun and Natsumi in the living room waiting for them.
"When did you get back?" Alexander asked, kissing his wife on the lips with a smile.
"An hour ago. We got everything done in record time," she giggled.
"Trust Aunt Natsumi to get shopping down quickly," Jun chuckled, rubbing her sore feet while she relaxed on the couch.
"Well, the work isn't over yet. We've got to finish setting up Harry's room," Alexander said. "So, let's get to it!"
"Yeah!" Daisuke, Demi-Veemon, and Harry cheered before rushing to Harry's bedroom.
"Ah, the enthusiasm of youth," Alexander chuckled as he and his wife followed the trio with Jun behind them.
With all of them working together, it didn't take long to arrange Harry's room exactly how he wanted it.
The floors were a darkened wood, the walls were painted grey, and there was a coat rack in the corner by the window with a black dragonhide jacket Natsumi had bought for Harry hanging from it.
The queen-sized bed was against the fall wall beside a nightstand and bookshelf. It had dark blue sheets, dark green pillowcases, two pillows, two blankets, and several stuffed animals Harry had picked out at the toy store.
There were six in total, a lion, a snake, an eagle, a badger, a dragon, and a bear. He had named them Gryff, Sly, Rae, Cedric, Spyro, and Trinket.
"Man, this room looks amazing," Daisuke said as she and Demi-Veemon sat on the chair next to the L-shaped desk in one corner with all of Harry's school books neatly piled.
"Yeah, your parents went all out," her Digimon chirped as Alexander set Harry's Nimbus 2000 broomstick on the wall mount.
"Well, Harry's never had his own room before, nor has it been filled with his things. Everything he owned before belonged to his pig of a cousin at one time or another," Daisuke replied as Harry slid open the door to his closet and saw all his clothes hanging there.
"I think I'm gonna cry," Harry muttered, rubbing his watering eyes.
"Don't need to cry. There's nothing to cry about," Natsumi told him gently, kneeling and hugging him. She rubbed his back gently and cooed softly as he sobbed into her shoulder while the others shared a soft smile.
"All right, time for dinner, I'd say," Alexander said.
"Agreed. I think it's time Harry experienced some family recipes," Natsumi said with a smile as she kissed the boy on the forehead before she walked out of the room with her husband and niece leaving the younger kids and Digimon to themselves.
"Come on, let's go wash up. You're going to love dinner if mama cooks what I think she'll cook," Daisuke told Harry as she walked to the door and looked over her shoulder at him. "Ya coming, bro?" she asked, and he nodded.
"Yeah," he said and quickly followed her out of the room, their stomachs growling hungrily when they caught a whiff of something delicious cooking in the kitchen.
The next week or so flew by, and Harry had never been happier with his new family and new home. It was almost as if he'd never stayed with the Dursleys. He wasn't woken early to cook breakfast for the rest of the family. He wasn't thrown out into the backyard, forced to do all the garden work without food or water. And he never received a beating from Alexander like he had done when Uncle Vernon found something slight to get angry at him about.
"Now, you two, be sure to be back before it gets dark. I don't want you two catching a cold," Natsumi told Harry, Daisuke, and Demi-Veemon as they walked out the front door.
"Don't worry, mama. We'll be fine. We're only going to the park to meet up with my friends," Daisuke reassured her.
"Yeah, don't worry, Natsumi, I'll look after them," Demi-Veemon promised, saluting the woman with a cute smile.
"Be careful!" the woman called out to the two kids as they ran off together.
"We will. Don't worry!" Daisuke waved to her mother as she held Harry's hand, dragging him along as Demi-Veemon held onto his partner's hair. After a few minutes, the three had arrived in the nearby park and were walking down a path under the shade of some trees.
"So, your friends are going to be here soon?" Harry asked as he looked around for any signs of Daisuke's friends.
"Yep, come on, let's find a good spot to wait for them," Daisuke replied, leading him over to a huge tree before sitting under it, and Demi-Veemon jumped into her lap.
Harry sat beside her and fiddled with his glasses as they waited before hearing voices approaching. "Is that them?"
Daisuke was silent momentarily, listening to the voices before she nodded with a bright smile. "Yep, that's them!" she answered, jumping to her feet and running off with Demi-Veemon in her arms.
"Gah, hey, wait up!" Harry yelped, jumping to his feet and following his sister through the park until he saw a group of people and several Digimon. "Whoa…" he whispered in surprise.
"Guys, hey!" Daisuke greeted, running over to them with a smile.
"Daisuke!" one male with bushy hair and a pair of goggles around his neck greeted as he picked the girl up and spun her around. "Boy, it's glad to see you!"
"Good to see you too, Tai," she chirped as the boy set her down and grinned at the group. "It's so good to see you all again,"
"Yeah, we've missed you guys!" Demi-Veemon chirped with a smile.
"We've missed you as well," a bipedal hawk-like Digimon replied with a smile.
"Yeah, you gotta tell us all about that magic school. You promised to," an armadillo-like Digimon said with a grin. "Oh, and did you bring snacks? I'm hungry!"
"Armadillomon, you just had a big lunch." A young boy with brown hair and green eyes sighed as he stood beside the Digimon before noticing Harry nearby. "Is that your friend you told us about, Daisuke?" he asked, and all attention turned to Harry, who gulped nervously.
Daisuke smiled softly and nodded. "That's right. Everyone, this is my new brother Harry Potter," she introduced.
"Um…hello," he greeted, waving his hand shyly.
"Hey there, nice to meet you," a girl with brown hair and bright red eyes chirped with a smile. "I'm Kari Kamiya, and this is my Digimon, Gatomon," she introduced, holding up a white feline with blue eyes and a golden ring around its tail.
"Hi," the cat purred with a smile.
"Harry, these are the other Digidestined in Japan. Tai Kamiya, Sora Takenouchi, Koushiro/Izzy Izumi, Ken Ichijouji, Matt Ishida, and his younger brother T.K, Mimi Tachikawa, Yolei Inoue, Cody Hida, Kari Kamiya, and Joe Kido." Daisuke introduced.
"And these are their Digimon, Agumon, Gabumon, Biyomon, Palmon, Tentomon, Gomamon, Patamon, Gatomon, Hawkmon, Armadillomon, and Wormmon," Demi-Veemon added, gesturing to the gathered Digimon.
"It's very nice to meet you," Sora said to Harry with a smile, and the boy shyly returned the smile.
"Same here…wait, you're speaking English?" he asked.
"Well, Daisuke did tell us you grew up in England. We didn't want to make things hard by trying to make you talk Japanese with us," Mimi said. "We all took English classes at school. It's a great help when we're in other countries on holiday,"
"That's a relief…." Harry said.
"Come on, let's all sit down and chat. I bet you've got some wacky stories to tell us about your school," T.K said.
"You could say that again," Harry muttered, and soon everyone was sitting listening to Daisuke, and Harry go over their previous two years at Hogwarts.
"Wait, back up a moment!" Kari yelped. "You're saying that you both fought a giant snake under the school that could have killed you with its eyes!?"
"Yep, it wasn't fun," Daisuke said with a shudder. "So slimy, dark, and cold,"
"But we had to do it. We had to save Ginny from Voldemort," Harry said. "We're just lucky Fawkes was there to heal me from the Basilisk's fang."
"For a snake that large to live under the school for so long, and for nobody to discover it…that's concerning," Ken said.
"To be fair, Salazar Slytherin told nobody about the Chamber of Secrets or the Basilisk. Voldemort probably discovered it during his school years by sheer luck or chance," Daisuke shrugged. "And it's dead now. It won't hurt anyone again,"
"But how did part of this guy's soul get left in a diary?" Cody asked. "We may not be magical, but even we know that shouldn't be possible."
"Your guess is as good as ours, buddy. Dumbledore is probably looking into it somehow," Daisuke said.
"Are we not going to talk about the other crazy stuff you two and your friends went through? I mean giant spiders, a sentient chessboard, a possessed teacher, a troll, a three-headed dog…this stuff makes what we faced in the Digital World like a joke," Tai said.
"Oh, don't be so dramatic," Sora sighed, slapping him on the shoulder, making him yelp and pout while rubbing his sore shoulder.
"She's right, Tai. We've fought our share of dangers in the Digital World," Matt reminded him.
"Speaking of the Digital World…" Harry trailed off when everyone looked at him. "Would it be all right if we went there? Daisuke said it would be okay."
The Digidestined all shared a look, thinking it over before they nodded. "Sure thing; maybe you and the younger kids can go while we wait here," Tai grinned. "Izzy, can you set up the portal?"
"Sure," the red-haired genius said, opening his laptop, which he seemed to have on him wherever he went.
"Um, portal?" Harry asked.
"Don't worry, it's awesome," Daisuke assured him, holding his hand. "Just don't let go of my hand, ok?"
Harry nodded and saw Izzy holding the laptop towards them as T.K, Kari, Yolei, Cody, and Ken stood beside them. "Here we go. Digi-Port Open!" Yolei shouted as she and the others held out their D-3's and Harry was blinded by a bright flash before he and the others were all sucked into the laptop.
Harry blinked his eyes and rubbed them before he looked around and gasped in shock. "Whoa, where are we?" he asked, noticing he was no longer in the park, but instead, he stood in a large green field.
"The Digital World," Daisuke told him, grinning at her brother as she and Veemon walked over to him with the others. "Don't worry. You get used to that method of transport after a while."
Harry nodded before he adjusted his glasses. "And your clothes are different too,"
The group shared a look and nodded. "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention our clothes change when we're in the Digital World," Daisuke admitted sheepishly. "But man, it feels good to be in this outfit again," She stretched and posed. "What do ya think?"
"Nice to know that you've not changed a bit," Kari chuckled at her friend's wide grin while Harry looked around some more.
"So, where are we?" he asked.
"We're near the Primary Village. We figured it would be a nice and safe spot to begin your trip into the Digital World," T.K explained. Harry nodded and followed the group as they walked off, the group telling him more stories of their adventures and explaining more about the Digimon and Digital World.
As he listened to them, Harry stopped when he heard something. It sounded like someone faintly calling out to him. He turned and walked off, following the voice, and soon he was walking through a small grove of trees with sunlight filtering through the branches.
"Hello?" he called out. "Who is there?" He followed the faint voice before seeing a large egg resting under a tree. "An egg?" he walked closer to the egg and saw it was a colourful egg. It was purple and yellow with white lightning bolts dancing along the shell.
He blinked and slowly reached out to the egg before it shuddered, he jumped back and watched as the egg twitched and rolled before it cracked open, and a large cloud of pink smoke erupted from the egg.
Harry yelped before he began coughing, waving the smoke away, and once the smoke had cleared, he saw something sitting where the egg once was. It was a small furry quadrupedal creature with blue eyes and yellow spines growing from its back, and it looked up at Harry and smiled.
"Hi Harry, I'm Pusurimon!"
"Pusurimon?" Harry asked. "You're a Digimon?"
"Yep! And we're partners!" chirped the Digimon, who jumped up and landed in Harry's arms when the boy reached out to catch him.
"Partners?" he asked before a light covered his hand and pulled it back, looking at his hand to see a small device forming out of the light. "Whoa…is this a Digivice?" he whispered.
"I think so," Pusurimon chirped with a smile.
"Okay then," Harry replied with a smile. "Let's go and catch up with my sister and her friends. I bet they're wondering where I ran off alone."
"But you're not alone,"
"I mean before I met you," he chuckled as he walked off, holding his new partner in his arms. "So, tell me about yourself, Pusurimon. What do you like to do?"
His new partner blinked and hummed thoughtfully. "Well, I like sleeping, oh and playing games." He chirped happily, making Harry grin widely at his partner's infectious, bubbly personality.
"That's good to know. I'll make sure we get to play lots of games and sleep." He promised.
"Harry, Harry, where are you!?" both heard Daisuke calling out for him.
"You had better not be hurt already. Alexander and Natsumi will kick our butts!" Veemon's voice called out. "And they'll kick your butt for wandering off!"
"No, they won't. Don't say things like that, you idiot!" Daisuke's voice interrupted, followed by her fist hitting her partner's head.
"Gah!" Veemon groaned as Harry walked around a tree and saw the blue dragon with his head stuck in the ground and the young girl's fist smoking slightly.
"Oh, she looks angry," Pusurimon whispered, causing Daisuke to look up, and she saw Harry and the new Digimon in his arms, though she didn't notice it at first.
"I'm not angry!" she snapped before pausing. "Harry…what is that in your arms?" She asked.
Harry looked down at Pusurimon and smiled. "My Digimon partner. Daisuke, I'd like you to meet Pusurimon. Pusurimon, meet my sister Daisuke and her Digimon partner Veemon."
"Hiya," the new Digimon chirped softly.
Daisuke blinked, her jaw dropping in shock as she stared at Harry and the Digimon. "Huh, how about that…" she muttered, scratching her head as Veemon pulled his head free out of the ground, and his jaw dropped too at seeing the Digimon.
"Is that why you wandered off?"
"Yeah…I heard him calling out to me," Harry said softly, looking down at his partner with a smile.
"I see," Daisuke said. She then smiled and gently petted Pusurimon. "Nice to meet you, Pusurimon."
"Nice to meet you too," the Digimon chirped.
"Come on, let's go and find the others. They're probably waiting for us near Primary Village. I'm sure Elecmon can give you some tips about caring for your new partner." Daisuke told Harry before walking off.
"Right," Harry said, walking off with Veemon jogging ahead to keep up with Daisuke. "I can tell this is gonna be awesome."
