"Power, what will you achieve with it?"

A question he was asked as a child, a question he still lacked the answer to.

Power might as well the most dangerous concept known in existence, as it can not only give but can take at the same time.

May the power he seeks bring light to the universe once more.

A pair of blue eyes lit up in the dark.

Blank woke up after a good night rest, covered by nothing but a blanket he got from a good friend while using his backpack as a pillow. He yawned with all the energy he had despite sleeping in a cave.

He brushed up the dirt on his white fur before extinguishing the camp fire he had set up, grabbing his trusty rod, he set out to find water

"Gotta stay hydrated, first thing in the morning!" He exclaimed. He was taught to always find a place nearby with resources if he wanted to camp elsewhere. And luckily, the cave he slept in was close to a river.

He stretched a bit before crouching and scooped up a some water. It was clean enough to drink, though boiling it to remove any unseen bacteria was a step he should have taken.

"Eh, water is water" he shrugged. Cleaning his face, he went back to the cave. "Time to pack up so I can head over to Knothole."

Truth be told he could have done this earlier, but because a) He's lazy and b) It wasn't really safe with all those Robotnik attacks for a while, though now he heard the king returned, he could be assured some safety.

Survival was very vital to Blank the cat, especially in this world of war.

He entered the cave nonchalantly, as he began packing up his belongings, he heard some footsteps.

Blank became quickly alert as he reached for his trusty weapon, a hiking rod.

'Swatbots? How'd they-'

Fortunately, his assumptions were false as the person who entered the cave was nothing more than a blue hedgehog mobian. He became relieved emotionally as he wasn't ready for a full on battle, and definitely wasn't going to be roboticized.

"Yo!" He waved at the tired hedgehog, he seemed to be wearing handcuffs and legcuffs, both were severed. Plus his feet were covered in mud, including his red shoes.

"Yo!" He replied as he sat down, panting heavily.

"So, fugitive huh?" Blank asked as he sat down as well, resting on the wall.

"Sort of,"

"Acorn?" The only functioning kingdom in the area to have the blue mobian on the run

He nodded

"What you in for?" Blank questioned

"Was framed," he answered

"For?"

"Murder" the hedgehog responded as he pinched the bridge between his nose

"Oh," he looked around a bit before asking "who?"

"The princess," he replied

"You killed Sally Acorn?!" He jumped up at the shock of hearing those words

"I didn't do it!" The hedgehog exclaimed in rage, calming down the cat

"Sheesh I was just making a joke man," Blank let out a sweat

"I hate those kind of jokes, especially now my friends think I'm a murderer" the hedgehog looked down in sadness

Blank felt a sense of remorse before patting him on the back, maybe he went a bit too far even though he was trying to lighten the mood

"So did they find out who did it?"

The hedgehog looked in part disbelief and confusion before replying "I... I don't think I'd be here if they did."

"Hey, one can only hope." Blank smiled

The hedgehog was at loss for words "You're a weird guy"

"My name's not 'a weird guy' it's Blank" he shot back

"And he tells dad jokes," he silently muttered in disappointment, though at least he wasn't boring "Sonic," he introduced himself

"Wait you're that freedom fighter guy who killed his leader?" Blank's eyes lit up

"You're starting to get on my nerves dude," Sonic frowned

"Hehehe" Blank chuckled, causing his discussion partner to become all the more curious

"So, how'd Mr Wise Guy end up on a cave far away from the kingdom, or better yet, how are you surviving outside Knothole, you know, the only safe spot from Ro-butt-nik"

Blank let out a smirk "I guess I'm built different,"

"Hmph," the hedgehog looked away, he already had a not so alright first impression on his new colleague

"Now, I got one for ya,"

Sonic turned his attention back to the cat who was smiling without care, he answered his question so it'd be fair for the hedgehog to answer his

"Shoot,"

"Alright!" He clapped his palms together, "Did you try removing the cuffs placed on you the moment you escaped?"

Sonic was left startled at first but asked "I couldn't find time to, but then again I don't see why it's that big 'a deal"

Blank's face remained still leaving the hedgehog in a state of confusion. There was silence in the room for a brief moment before the cat now sighed in frustration.

"You do know you were tracked all the way here right?"

"What?!" It was now Sonic's turn to jump up in shock

"Yup," he nodded "it's likely whoever cuffed you placed a tracker in case you escaped."

The hedgehog was at disbelief, "Geoffrey..."

"Don't know who that is, but it looks like you'll have to get going now, like right now"

He turned back to the cat "What are you-"

"GRRROOOWWWLLLL!"

"HAHAHA!" Blank laughed out hysterically "They even brought out the TD's, man you're cooked!"

"TD's?" Sonic raised an eyebrow

"Tasmanian Devils, they don't spin but they're committed till death, and have a freakishly reliable sense of smell, the person hunting you down must hate you to the core!"

"If only you were wrong," Sonic swallowed his spit "I gotta escape before they grab my scent"

"Where to? You still have a tracker on ya so you're not exactly free." Blank reminded

Footsteps echoed throughout the cave, the two mobians could tell someone was coming.

"Just do something about it!" Sonic exclaimed in worry, stretching out his shackles, Blank examined them before letting out a hiss

"Sorry, no can do. Too hard to break and too complex to pick," he shook his head "You'll need either a laser or the key to these," they possessed neither

Sonic began tapping his foot rapidly as he was out of options, Blank shot him a look of pity as the footsteps came closer. They just met though he heard tales of how Sonic fought with the Freedom Fighters prior, but why did he feel like putting himself in trouble for an accused. He could be charged for aiding a fugitive which could be seen as treason even if he wasn't a citizen of Acorn, they'd probably take him in as a prisoner of war.

It could place a dent in his plans.

"Alright, alright," he waved at the hedgehog 'I better have made the right choice'

...

Geoffrey St. John let out a breather

He was getting real tired of this game of cat and mouse that had been going on for days. But why should he complain? All that mattered was putting down that hedgehog for his crimes (and personal vendetta).

He had never really had a high opinion on that guy, always such a child who never took things seriously. Made him wonder what Sally even saw in him.

Geoffrey stopped at his tracks, he realized he shouldn't bother asking a question that couldn't be answered. After all, the Sally in question was dead, thanks to Sonic.

'Let's just get this over with' he sighed as he crouched to examine the rocky ground in the cave he was in "He won't be able to make the best use of his speed here."

He kept on walking for a while until he heard a BEEP, he searched his pockets and picked up what seemed to be a GPS. As the BEEP's got even louder, he felt grateful

"Glad I took some extra measures, that tracker I placed in his shackles really came in handy"

True he already had the Tasmanian Devils, but that could be countered for by covering the scent up with something like mud. Why not go further?

Geoffrey checked the device one last time, it was clear he was almost there. He reduced his foot noises to avoid being detected.

"My device is goin' bonkers, that means-"

Unfortunately, he was unable to plan for the side kick to his gut. This caused the soldier to cough out spit and move a few meters away. Sonic had landed a sneak attack, something he wasn't used to doing.

'Lets hope Blank's plan goes as planned'

...

Blank let out a hearty grin,

At the entrance of the cave, two badgers were tied up in ropes, they were beat up. The cat mobian was passing time by tickling the Devils on the stomach.

"That was easy" he remarked "Let's hope needlerat's handling his part"

The plan was simple and straightforward, 'the kingdom's secret service always work in troupes, the cave's too small to lead an all-out assault so it's likely they'll send one person, the leader. They'll probably stay out guarding the entrance and request backup if needed. I'll handle the rest, while you keep the guy busy.'

Blank let out a sigh in relief 'I didn't even believe it'd work,'

He stopped playing with the devils as he stood up and went back inside the cave "Better check on Sonic then,"

Blank was never really the brightest guy in any aspect, but that was because he was lazy at heart. No real motivation to do anything, was it because he was better than anyone else, probably the due to having no real challenge? No.

It was because he lacked a 'soul' to push him forward, or not exactly like that, he definitely had a soul.

But it was just blank.

"Forgive me,"

The cat quickly shook his head, 'not me having this flashback again,'

He continued his walk down the cave until he heard loud voices, one he recognized from Sonic and the other

...

"You murdered her!"

Sonic leapt a few feet back to wipe off the dirt from his jaw, he charged at Geoffrey with full speed and pushed him towards a wall before responding "I didn't do it!"

The skunk recovered immediately and grabbed the hedgehog by the head, his opponent did the same.

"You killed the woman I loved!" He yelled furiously

"Don't you say that," Sonic became more agitated as he responded "When the only person you love is yourself!" He quickly let go off Geoffrey's head and threw a right hook that connected.

Geoffrey was about to land the next attack but stopped as he heard a couple of crunching noises. A white cat sat down and watched them fight whilst eating a bag of popcorn.

"Mmm" he reacted "You know, entertainment like this ain't a luxury outside Knothole. It's always 'Robotnik this' 'Robotnik that', the only thing keeping me from dying of boredom was my Go Pad"

The skunk didn't know whether to be confused or more angry, all this was just entertaining to him?

"Blank, you're done already?" Sonic asked before dodging a punch from the skunk and landing a kick that sent him back.

"Yeah, wasn't even that hard. I was just watching them finish a game of poker before knocking the lights out of them"

'Them?' the skunk looked in confusion at first before figuring it out 'Don't tell me'

He could have sworn he heard a chuckle from the cat

"There should be an exit a not far on the right," Blank gestured

"Aw, you have no idea how grateful I am, thanks man!" Sonic thanked him before he accelerated towards the path that was given to him.

Geoffrey saw this and stretched out his hand which had a crossbow on it

"I'm not finished!"

BONK

He felt a concussion on the back of his head, making him lose consciousness, he saw Blank all of a sudden at his back holding a rod.

"Nope, you definitely are"

"How... Did you-" Geoffrey St. John passed out before he could finish those words, though it didn't stop Blank the cat from answering him.

"Magicians don't reveal their tricks, idiot" he looked away as he saw the hedgehog flee from the exit of the cave 'Come to think of it, wasn't there a waterfall at that side?'

Maybe he should go check on him, or on second thought "Nah, he'd be fine."

He quickly put on his backpack, and stepped outside the cave, patting the two Tasmanian Devils on the head before continuing his journey to Knothole.

"Things on Mobius, are getting real fun!"

Sigh

Can't believe this is my life now.

So basically I was unable to catch some sleep after speedrunning a very good fic 'Recursion Error' by Writer's Domino. One of the two Archie Sonic related stories I cared about (the other being Rediscovered Frontiers by The Infamous Man). And then I was like, "hollup, let me cook something"

I don't really think this as a safe decision despite managing another fic, and another one which hasn't been updated in almost two years. and then there's my original story, but hey, wouldn't it be a safe bet to practice writing fanfics to improve my story's writing and stuff?

Now I'm not really a multi tasker but that doesn't mean I shouldn't leave stuff undone so I'll get back to it... eventually.

Anyways that aside, Welcome to Blanked Soul. An OC-ish retelling of Archie's Sonic the hedgehog. Featuring an amazingly smart but lazy cat whose motives are unknown and might change the original canon to a point.

To make this even half as fun as the other fanfics I've read, few elements from different Sonic media will be added into story arcs so please look forward to them.

I also have fanon elements which I think would be fun and intriguing for new and old Sonic fans, so look forward to that as well.

Till then, Gear out!

P.S. forgive my mediocre grammar and lack of understanding of the characters since I typed all that on a phone in one day (just for 2k words lmfao)
