Power Rangers Wolf War
Prologue
Wolf spirits were some of the most powerful avatars of the grid. They were rare compared to the infinitude of lions and tigers, or dragons and phoenixes, however they were just as, if not more potent beings.
However, while a single wolf totem was powerful, their true power lied in their pack. Due to the rarity of their own, they tended to adapt other spirits as their pack and while their pseudo pack of animal spirits appeared to gain power from their unity, it was at best miniscule in face of the power that would be harnessed when a true wolf pack arose.
In many universes, a vengeful lone wolf spirit wanted more of their own and their vessel invented a curse that could spread among other mortals and replace their individual spirits with that of the wolf, creating a true pack… But these wolves were often at war with themselves and the chaos of their minds and souls transformed them into feral beings, driven by primal violence.
The champions of the Grid fought against these creatures, who came to be known as werewolves and drove them to the point of extinction.
However, the dark wolves lurked in the shadows of the Grid, waiting for a chance to strike and establish themselves as the predominant force in the universe.
The forces of the Underworld had failed time and again to conquer the magical realm and the human city of Briarwood that served as their portal of entry to the mundane universe and each time, their attempt to best those who opposed them, the heroic Mystic Force, became more depraved.
Bandora, the dark witch, who now ruled the Underworld with her husband Morticon, after betraying her father, the self-proclaimed Master, smirked as she eyed her newly formed army.
Her previous attack had involved granting the powers of her dark knight to a werewolf mercenary, who had slayed the red mystic ranger. Though they hadn't managed to achieve victory because of the unexpected revelation that the red mystic not only wielded the powers of the phoenix, but was actually host to a phoenix spirit, which essentially made him immortal, the fact that if it was any other ranger who had been slain, the rangers would have suffered a harrowing loss, bolstered her spirits.
She smirked, tapping the armrest of her throne with her black nails. Her husband grunted beside her. She saw the vampire queen not move from her position in the shadowy catacombs, still in a state of mourning after learning of her daughter's death. Koragg kneeled in front of them.
"How did you convince him to join us?" Morticon asked, baffled that the Master's most loyal soldier had chosen to follow them even after learning how they had betrayed him.
"I had the right motivation." She smirked, beckoning her knight to stand.
"Mistress." The purple knight said deeply.
"It is time to act." She stood up and floated towards the center of the hall, a cracked crystal dome, previously where the 'Eye' of the Master stood.
"Koragg, stand here." She commanded. A spell circle appeared underneath the knight once he took his position.
Bandora's pupils darkened as her head rolled back and black magic flared from her arms. The circle glowed with purple light and traversed upwards, encasing Koragg in a hollow cylinder made of swirling dark symbols.
Bandora started chanting in the tongue of the Ancients and the Underworld shook wildly, threatening to collapse on itself. Morticon held on to his throne frantically. Necrolai shrieked, taking cover as multiple boulders broke down from above, crushing unsuspecting hidiacs underneath them.
She dropped to the floor with a thud as the shaking stopped. The cylinder around Koragg shattered as countless beams of dark energies shot down from above, materializing into many shapes who lurked in the shadows.
"My queen." Koragg rushed to her aid, helping her to her feet.
"It is done." She heaved a sigh of relief and laughed. "Koragg, your army is here!"
The shadowy figures stepped out of the corners. Necrolai gasped at their sheer number, which easily surpassed that of the hidiacs.
Their form twisted, dark energies flickering around them. They resembled wolf humanoids, with sharp canines and claws.
"Wolfblades…" Morticon murmured.
"Yes, husband." She smiled.
"Can you control these beasts?" He asked skeptically.
"I don't need to." She scoffed.
"Because I do." Koragg growled, raising his fist to the air and the creatures started howling.
"Excellent!" Bandora clapped her hands excitedly. "Those brats won't know what hit them!"
For the longest time, Billy had felt endless gratitude upon looking back on his days as a power ranger. When Zordon had chosen him, a whole universe of opportunities had been revealed to him. The wonder of travelling to other worlds, the gift of learning about technologies beyond anything invented on Earth, the honor of meeting warriors, mages, scientists and scholars across the galaxy, but most importantly the fact that there was more to reality that he had ever imagined. Now, he felt nothing but resentment and anger.
Being the blue ranger had enabled him to save the world countless times over but it had also painted a target on his back.
His powers may have protected him but his family had not been so lucky.
Whenever he closed his eyes, he saw their glassy eyes, the blood pooling in them, their broken and battered bodies…
He had lost everything.
Time and time again, he kept on losing the people he loved.
After losing his parents, he had buried himself in studying alien technology and creating weapons and armor for the rangers… The reason he had given up the mantle to Tanya because he could not trust himself to be on the frontlines anymore.
Then, he met Cestria and he really allowed himself to believe despite what he had lost, he could have a family again and he did…
He stayed on Aquitar. When he married Cestria, he gained not only a wife but an entire family… Cestro, Delphine, Corcus, Aurico and Tideus, who embraced him as one of their own and never questioned what a human was doing amongst their people.
They were there for him when they felt the golden wave pass over them… when he lost his third parent.
They were cheering him along as he became the first human to graduate the Science Academy of Aquitar.
And everyday when he woke up, he still had to orient himself to the fact that they were dead. That his wife and closest friends were dead because of the machinations of evil.
He could still hear their screams.
He missed Cestria's smile, her voice, her everything… Thoughts of her kept him awake late at night till exhaustion claimed him to a sleep full of nightmares.
There had been nothing left on Aquitar for him. He had returned to Earth, back to his old home in Angel Grove and being back there, the failure of not being able to save his parents added to his guilt. It would have devoured him alive if not for his old teammates.
Kat, Adam, Justin and Tanya had helped him clean his house as well as help him come up with a cover story to where he was for the better part of the last decade.
Rocky and Aisha forced him eat regularly.
Kim, Jason, Zack, Tommy, Nancy and Trini sat with him for hours silently, just being there, even when he was not in any mood to exchange the basic pleasantries, letting him know he was not alone.
After he was ready to get back to his feet, he was approached with lucrative offers by GSA, SPD, Lightspeed and Bio Labs, but he was not ready to think about galactic affairs so soon.
Despite his numerous accolades from several renowned institutions across space, to most people of Earth, he was a man who never went to any college despite an early graduation from his high school with exemplary grades. The only jobs he could get were clerical in nature and even they would be hesitant to hire someone who had been declared a missing person for nearly a decade.
It was not like he needed money though. He was still getting royalties for the various inventions he made during his time on Aquitar and zannabatars, when converted to dollars was enough to make him considerably rich. He supposed he should be thankful that GSA was enabling galactic transaction, even on a relatively isolated planet like Earth.
However, he could not just do nothing. He needed a purpose… something to bide his time.
On his garage, he had found the flying car he had made as a teen with help of eltarian technology and that had given him an idea. Ethically, it was not right for him to benefit off the technology he had learnt off planet, but nothing was stopping him from creating the technology from scratch on Earth, which was an endeavor, considering most devices in other planets ran off magic or grid energies and none of them were accessible on Earth.
He had the basic framework for a plan and with the backing of Bio Labs, Mercer Industries and SPD, he started his own tech company – Cranston Tech. The goal was to improve Earth's technology to harness grid energies in about a decade, without salvaging alien technologies but replicating their function with Earth based materials. He had recruited most people who had worked with ranger tech before – Justin, Dr. Angela Fairweather and her team, Dr. Zaskin, Hayley Ziktor, Horatio Hart, Tyler Steele and Cameron Watanabe.
It was unbelievable how much the company had boomed in a single year.
With NASADA claiming his time abroad was doing independent studies under them and giving him honorary degrees that roughly translated his expertise and degrees in terms of human comprehension, all major tech companies were lining up to collaborate with him. Unlike other companies, his devices were easily affordable by the general populace and were globally distributed.
Business was booming and he was now claimed to be one of the richest and most successful men on Earth… empty words that did nothing to fill the emptiness in his heart but he did find some solace in the fact that his inventions were helping mankind.
As he looked over the inventory in his computer, he felt something. He looked around. There was no one else in his office, yet there was a strong feeling he could not shake off, that he was being watched.
A blue wisp appeared in front of him. The light twisted into the shape of a wolf.
"Billy." It was a voice he knew well, yet never thought he would ever hear again.
"Ninjor?" He asked disbelievingly.
"Some thing is wrong in the Grid. The Spirit World is in turmoil." Ninjor's voice came out of the wolf, devoid of his usual smugness.
"What? You are not making sense." Billy shook his head.
"Young wolf, you are needed again. The dark wolves have been awakened." The wolf flickered.
"Wha-"
"Billy, you must gather the pack." Ninjor said urgently just as the wolf disappeared in sparks of blue and the former ranger looked around bewildered.
Hope you guys liked the prologue.
This story is in continuity with my other story Mystic Force: Champions of Magic. You do not need to read that story to enjoy this one, but I would appreciate if you do, especially if you are a Mystic Force fan like me. I am summarizing the story below, so that you guys are caught up with the events.
Basically, after losing her Snow Staff, Udonna gives her Snow Wand (her morpher) to Neil Grey, a friend of the rangers, who becomes the new White Ranger. Later, his mother is revealed to be Lena Runetail, the Saffron Sentinel, the former Yellow Lightning Mystic, who fought alongside Udonna and the other Mystics in the Great War. She saves the rangers from Morticon's wife, a dark witch called Bandora.
Bandora and Morticon turn on the Master, seemingly destroying him and taking control of the Underworld.
The pink ranger, Vida gets turned into a vampire and later becomes the new vampire queen, after overthrowing the former queen.
They enlist a new general, Imperious, who turns out to be Calindor Runetail, Lena's brother who betrayed the Mystics.
The Solaris Knight, Daggeron join the rangers and their new ally, the Titanium Ranger and demon hunter, Ryan Mitchell.
Clare discovers she is the heiress to the mantle of the Gatekeeper and unleashes her potential after a spirit quest. When the darkness tries to capture her, an elf knight called Darien comes to her rescue and joins the Mystic Force.
I splintered this story from the main story because it will be a crossover event and Billy will be a main character alongside other wolf rangers (Maya, Merrick and others).
Please review. :)
