CHAPTER 40

In the dark depths of the coal mine, the bandit found his secret hiding place. The only light that broke through the darkness came from a lantern hanging precariously from the coal seam. He was shrouded in a gloomy atmosphere, the black dust hanging in the air like a cloak of secrecy.

With a debauched smile on his face, the bandit contemplated his carefully laid plans. The shadows danced around him, revealing only his malicious eyes shining in the darkness... He knew that he was only one step away from carrying out his daring venture "his revenge".

- "ELIZABETH"... He muttered to himself, as if whispering her name would increase the taste of the revenge he craved.

"You thought you could get away with it. While you're sick and full of people by your side, I'm going to take some of your friends... you'll regret it and you'll suffer a lot seeing each one of them fall. And today at the lumber mill was just the beginning..., but you underestimated my determination."

With a touch of arrogance, he reviewed his new plans, every detail meticulously orchestrated. The coal mine was the perfect place to hide, a dark and inhospitable labyrinth that no one would dare explore. He rejoiced at the thought of how his revenge would unfold, like a macabre theater...

His half-brother Wade would soon arrive in town, and he would help wipe out the café, the bar and other businesses... his brother was very good at it and Elizabeth would see her merchant friends lose everything. A town without commerce meant nothing, and soon everyone would be gone and it would be a ghost town.

However, even in the darkness, a little voice of doubt plagued him...

"Could Elizabeth surprise him? " Charles Spurlok laughed cynically, defying his own uncertainty...

"She's no match for me. Nothing can stop the inevitable. "

And so, in the coal mine, where that disgusting thug continued to plot his revenge, with a cruel gleam in his eyes and darkness as his ally, he was oblivious to the transformative power that had been unleashed outside. While he plotted in the shadows, the world around him was filled with the light of reconciliation and renewal in Elizabeth's house.
