A/N:Hey guys!!!I wrote this story cuz I'm bored Lol.So yeah,I do not own any of these characters,they're from various TV shows and books.As u can see,I made Maddox Annabeth and Ricky Percy.For some reason,my brain just chose to not put them together,but let me just say,SPOILER ALERT,they got together in the end.
Haunted
Everyone was at the campfire,smiling and roasting S'mores.Paige was chatting excitedly with Maddox and Nini,"Have you guys ever been to summer camp? I haven't, this is my first time! Oh my god,it's going to be so fun!"Paige said,nearly jumping from her spot on the wood-seat next to the campfire.She is a positive type of girl with chocolate brown hair and hazel eyes.She seems to be glowing with excitement.
"Calm down,Paige.It won't be fun if you drained all of your energy in,like,an hour,"Maddox said half-heartedly,turning the S'more stick on the campfire,with her headphone on.It's almost impossible to get a single bar of signal at this place.It's amazing how she can listen the music right now.But Maddox's got her own way,she's a tall girl with blond hair with extreme intelligence,her stormy gray eyes always seemed to be calculated and as if she can see right through you using only her eyes and her brain.
"Hey,look who's here,"Nini said while pointing at a tall guy with dark hair and sea green eyes that's walking toward them,"The big lazy Seaweed Brain," Nini sat cross legged in her wood-seat,her dark hair going all over the place,but she didn't seem to care.
"Hey,how's it going?" The tall guy now stood in front of them,and said softly.
"Good," Nini,Paige and Maddox answered at the same time.Nini patted the seat next to her,motioning the tall guy to sit,"Sit here,Seaweed Brain," She said,smiling at the tall guy.
"When are you going to stop calling me Seaweed Brain?" The tall guy smiled and took the seat next to Nini. He was smiling the whole time and seemed to be joking.
"What,you don't like that name,Seaweed Brain?" Nini laughed.
"Nini,stop messing with Ricky.You guys together are way too cute for anyone to watch.Plus your S'more's burning," Maddox said while a playful smile tugged her lips.Next to her,Paige was grinning like crazy and suppressing a giggle so hard that her face turned red.
"Shut up,Maddox," Nini said while blushing slightly and beside her, Ricky chuckled.
Nini and Ricky were good friends since elementary school.They're now going to the same high school and almost always sticking together.They say that they weren't a couple and never will be,but everyone else knows otherwise.They are so cute together they could be couple models,they are literally perfect for each other.Therefore,Nini's friends are secretly matching them up and had an ultimate goal:get these two lovebirds together.Even some teachers joined in.They all believed they were soul mates.
Now back to the present.
"Alright everybody,hope you've got enough S'mores," said the camp director,E.J,who's also Paige,Nini,Maddox and Ricky's friend,"Anyone here who likes ghost stories?" Everybody raised their hands."Great,then here comes the story called:The Missing One." E.J. said with a playful tone.
"Once upon a time—wait no,bad start—On a dark and stormy night," E.J. said dramatically,"4 best friends went to a summer camp.They were having a good time.Until..." E.J. paused,"Until,one of them went missing," E.J. paused again,clearly enjoying the tensing of the crowd,"Her other friends went finding her.They went into the haunted woods,just to be scared out of their minds and went scrambling out of the
woods.No one knows what exactly happened in there,all they know was something terrible.A week passed,the missing girl's friends totally forgot about their missing friend and moved on with their life,not caring if she's okay.But the thing they don't know about,is that the missing girl was in the woods.She was being called there by a whistling sound.When she got there,she was stuck,not being to get out.Soon,she became a ing back to haunt whoever dare to enter the woods and murder them," E.J. paused, just to let the campers hear the sound of the leaves shaking against each other on a tree,"And the haunted woods...IS RIGHT HERE!"E.J. suddenly flashed his flashlight toward the woods surrounding the camp.The trees are shaking like crazy right now,even though there doesn't seem to have any wind blowing.There's mist coming from the woods,making anyone can't see what's inside.And the most scary thing is,there's two little red dots,it seems like a pair of red eyes staring into you,ready to pierce you apart.
Nini shuddered,eyeing her friends a little.Maddox finally got her headphones off,and she looks as usual;not showing any sign that she's scared.Well,Maddox never really shows her emotions,she probably is scared but didn't show it.Nini thought,shifting her gaze to Paige.Paige is cuddling next to Maddox,all the energy she seemed to have just a second ago drained out of her,she visibly paled a little.Nini found a little comfort;she was not the only one who's scared! Nini turned her head to where Ricky's sitting.Ricky's eyebrows are scrunched together,and his face's a little green,otherwise,he looks ok.Nini gave him a smile and turned,looking at E.J. with a I'm gonna kill you for that stare.E.J. began to grin like crazy,his electric blue eyes sparkled evilly but in a naughty way.
"You know,ghost stories don't even make sense.I mean,like,a ghost,are you even serious right now?! Even if there can be a ghost,they gotta go to the underworld—assuming there is an underworld like what Greek myths said—and wait to be summoned by someone. Plus,you guys are just being ridiculous,if there are ghosts,what are scientists for then?They are there to prove that there weren't anything like ghosts,"Maddox said all of this in one breath,rather than looking scared,she looks angry.Like she felt disrespected.
"Yeah,I mean,right?" Paige gave a weak follow-up to hide her nervousness.
"Hehe."Nini laughed weakly.
"Yo guys,it's fine.It's just a story,"Ricky comforted.But E.J.just chose the worst time to ever come up to the group.
"Hey,was that good?"E.J. smirked.
"E.J.! That doesn't even make sense!You know..."Maddox started blabbering to E.J.about how ghost stories aren't real.
"Don't you think she's been taking stuff way too seriously?"Nini asked
Ricky.
"Eh.Maddox's just being Maddox.I mean,she's smart and she's a perfectionist who craves academic validation.She's just being she,"Ricky shrugged.
"Yeah,I guess."Nini smiled,but the cold feeling on the back of her neck still didn't go away.
"Alright guys,I'm gonna head to our cabin,"Paige said,taking the hint to leave Nini and Ricky alone.
"Oh,I'm coming.There's literally no one here who cares about logic," Maddox came rushing up to Paige,and rolled her eyes at E.J.
"Bye guys," Nini waved at her friends.
"Bye," Paige and Maddox said in unison.
Just like that,Nini and Ricky started chatting about almost everything;how's their
family,what's going to happen tomorrow,is the ghost story real and mostly complain about Maddox taking stuff way too seriously.
After a while,Nini got tired and said,"Hey Ricky?I'm a bit tired.I'm going to bed,"
"Yeah,sure.Rest well,"Ricky waved at her;His face red. Is it just me or is he really blushing?Nini thought.She smiled a little in her mind and waved Ricky goodbye.She headed straight toward her cabin with Maddox and Paige.
Nini entered the cabin.Surprisingly,there's no one in it. I thought Maddox and Paige were already here.Weird.Nini thought to herself.She checked the cabin number again.Number 6,that's right.But why weren't they here?Eh,they were probably out doing stuff.Nini shrugged herself off.She climbed up her bed,tucked herself tightly under the cover and drifted off to sleep.
In the morning...
"HEY!HAVE YOU GUYS SEEN NINI?!" Maddox came scrambling out of the
cabin,yelling frantically.
"No...Not since yesterday..."Ricky stammered.He was caught off guard.
"SHE'S GONE!ME AND PAIGE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR HER ALL MORNING!WE CHECKED EVERYWHERE IN THE CAMP AND TWICE FOR THE CABIN!SHE"S NOT IN THERE!" MAddox yelled panically.
"Did you tell E.J. about it?" Ricky asked,his eyebrows are now scrunched together.
"YES!HE'S DOING A SEARCH PARTY RIGHT NOW!"Maddox's voice raised higher.No one has ever seen her lose control like this.She's usually the one that tells people not to lose control.
"Hey,calm down.Nini..."Ricky was cut off by Paige,who came up running. "Ricky,Nini's missing!"Paige breathed.
"I know,I know.We should go find her," Ricky suggested.
"But where?" Paige questioned.
"Hummmmm...I haven't thought about that," Ricky muttered.
"No wonder Nini called you Seaweed Brain.Your skull's literally filled with seaweed,"Maddox chided.
"All right,all right.Have you guys searched the woods yet?" Ricky motioned toward the dark woods.
"N-no,"Paige mumbled,she clearly hadn't gotten over yesterday's ghost story. "Then let's go," Ricky said while turning around to the woods.
"Wait," Maddox grabbed Ricky's arm,"We're not allowed to go out of camp
boundaries.And the woods are off-limits."
"Do you want to find Nini or not,"Ricky said coldly.Unlike himself,he was usually
warm and filled with dumb happiness.
"Of course I want to!"Maddox responded,"I just think that we should find a more appropriate time to sneak out of our cabin and go to the woods."
"How about at night?"Ricky said,with a hint of bitterness in his tone.Paige shuddered.
"Sounds nice.Well,I'm going to search the camp again.See you guys at night," Maddox rushed off.
"Umm,I think I'm going to go now,"Paige said and also rushed off. Ricky sighed,thinking about Nini.And with that,he left to search.
At night,about 11:00...
Cabin 6's door creaked open,two heads peaked out from the creak.Maddox quietly slipped out of her cabin,followed by Paige.Maddox was carrying a flashlight,although it's not on.She slowly sneaked toward a black shadow standing in front of another cabin."Ricky?" She tested.
"Yeah,it's me," Ricky whispered back.
"great.Let's go,"Maddox said while marching off toward the woods. "But...but..."Paige gulped,and visibly paled.
"It's fine,"Maddox comforted while speeding up.
Paige whimpered as they came close to the entrance of the woods.
"Here we go." Maddox whispered to herself.
They walked past the bushes that were at the edge of the wood.
The mist blocked their sight.When they reached out in front of them,they could
barely see their own fingers.And of course,the entrance was totally invisible even
though they just walked past it a second ago.Why not?Sure,let's just make things worse.Paige thought while glancing back at the entrance.Maddox turned on her flashlight—at least now they can see their fingers—and walked forward,not afraid of whatever the woods might throw at them. Paige fastened her pace,determined not to get herself lost in these crazy woods.
After several minutes,just when Paige started thinking that maybe she was wrong and there wasn't any ghost in this world,a loud 'SNAP' came behind them.Paige stopped dead in her track,she could feel Ricky tensing beside her and Maddox slowly turning her flashlight toward the sound.Paige could feel the blood rushing out of her face,she wanted nothing more but run.However,she forced herself to stand there like a tree,not moving a muscle so she won't turn on autopilot and run away.Then,she would probably die alone in these woods and become another ghost. Just when Maddox turned her flashlight toward where the sound came from,a pair of blood-like red eyes stared straight at them.For a moment,the creature and the three teens are just standing there,taking in each other's features.But it's broken by Paige's screaming.
"AHHHHHH!!!!"Paige screamed at the top of her voice,"Monster!" She panicked,not knowing what to do except standing there and screaming her head off.
"Hey,"Maddox ignored Paige's screaming,and approached the creature. "Maddox,don't,"Ricky whispered with his hand clenching tight into a fist. "Hey,stay where you are,stay,"Maddox ignored Ricky,too.And she had her hand
stretched out in front of her.
The creature stared at her.
Paige took a retreating step,just in case the creature actually started biting.
"Good–WHOA,"Maddox started,but the creature lunged forward and tackled her to the ground.
"Oh my god,oh my god,it's gonna eat her,it's gonna eat her,"Paige covered her eyes with her hands and squeaked.
She waited for the blood-chilling scream,but it never came.
Instead,there's laughter.
"Huh?" Paige slowly peaked out from her hands and saw the most unbelievable
thing ever to happen right now.
The creature was a dog.And it's swaying its tail and licking Maddox's face while
Maddox did the thing that's most unlike herself—giggling.
Paige found Ricky staring at her with a mocking stare.His lips were curved up
into a mischievous smile.Paige felt blood rushing to her face because of humiliation and turned away.
"Hey,Paige,you okay?" MAddox asked.Her tone was serious.So I guess she's not mocking me.Paige thought while answering,"Yeah,yeah I'm fine."
The creature circled Maddox's leg before putting something on the ground. Maddox picked it up and dropped it within a second.
"What is it?"Ricky asked.
Maddox didn't answer,so Ricky leaned in.
"Is that..."Ricky mumbled,his eyes widening.
It's Nini's bracelet.It's silver and the word "Friends" were carved on it.Definitly Nini's style alright.
"So she is in the woods," Maddox muttered.
Paige tensed up again.The feeling of easiness and happiness was long since gone,replaced by horror and concern.
The giant dog waves its tail and disappears into the woods.Leaving the three startled teenagers standing alone in the woods.
"Well,there goes the hope that we're gonna have a dog to protect us," Ricky cracked a joke to lighten the mood,which backfired.
"We should keep moving," Maddox said quietly.And started moving toward the deeper woods.
They just walked like that for a couple of minutes,the eerie silence eating them up from the inside.Maddox was at the front,Paige and Ricky were following behind her.Nobody talked,nobody stopped,nobody wasn't thinking.The group just walked and walked and walked,until they came to a crossroad.
"Left or right?" Ricky broke the silence.
"I...don't know," Maddox looks confused.She knows everything,how can she not know?She's the one with plans.
"Left...and right..."Paige muttered to herself.
"What about we split up?I go to the right one,and you go to the left one," Maddox suggested.That's the dumbest idea she ever had.
"But that's dangerous!You don't know what's in those woods,"Ricky argued.
"Well,do you have any better ideas?" Maddox fired back,she hated people judging her plans.Especially during this situation,"The longer we don't find her,the greater chances..." Maddox's voice trailed off.
Ricky stiffened,"Fine,have it your way then.But you better not die."
"What about me?"Paige finally spoke up.
"You go with Ricky.Hopefully,you guys' brains combined together can be smarter,"Maddox said in a sarcastic tone.
Paige rolled her eyes at Maddox,"Sure,smarty pants."
"Why,thank you,"Maddox faked a princess tone,"And try not to die,please." The second part of her sentence turned out to be serious.
"Well,I guess goodbye for now,"Paige and Ricky waved,"Good luck."
Maddox gave them a smile before going right and disappeared into the woods.
Maddox's road...
There's mist everywhere.Maddox can barely see a tree in front of her when she came facing a tree trunk.She sighed,and walked past the tree.She walked and walked,shining her flashlight in the woods.Suddenly,a cracking sound on her left caught her attention.
She turned her flashlight off.Just in case that's an aggressive animal and the light startled it into offensive mode.Maddox quieted her footsteps,her hand reaching for something next to her thigh semicounciously.She pulled out a dagger from a sheath that's connected to her jeans.The silver dagger glowled faintly in the woods.The hilt of it was curved beautifully.There's a Greek crown of power and the twelve greek god curved on it.Maddox got it from her father,her father said it was passed down in her family and is very ancient.Maddox can still remember the time when her father told her she's fast and can be a great dagger fighter,and how this dagger will protect its owner until the
very end. Maddox's eyes teared up a little at the thought of her father.He had died when she was young.But she can almost remember every single word he had said.
Her train of thoughts were cut off by another "Crack" on her left side of the woods.Maddox turned her head,and saw a giant shadow moving at lightning speed.She stood in the middle of the woods,the giant shadow appearing now and then,getting closer and closer to Maddox.Maddox clenched her dagger tighter,until her knuckles went white.The shadow's closer to her now,she can make out a little shape of it.It looks like a dog,but much bigger and furrier,it's like a lion,but it can't be because it doesn't have a mane and have a dark colored fur.I wonder what it is,Maddox thought,It'll be fascinating if it's a creature that we don't know about.
The giant creature didn't wait to let her figure it out.It charged at Maddox at lightning speed,moving like a blur.It tackled Maddox easily from behind since it's literally twice her size.
Maddox closed her eyes as the impact came,her dagger skittering to the ground.What's with me and tackling today? She thought and opened her eyes,just to become face to face with a pair of glowing evil green eyes and the creature bared its fangs at her.Maddox's thoughts flashed through her brain,What.The.Heck.Is.This.Oh my god,is it a hellhound?! I thought it's just from the books!Oh my god,I'm so dead,I'm so so so dead! The hellhound's front paw were on Maddox's arm,the other on her ribs,its sharp claws digging painfully into her flesh.Maddox tried reaching for her dagger that's lying on the ground,and found out she couldn't move an inch under the weight of the hellhound that's on top of her.However,her motions seems to irritate the hellhound even more,its nostrils flared,Maddox can feel its hot breath on her face.Its bllod-like eyes
sparked with hunger and victory.The creature growled deeply.Its enormous mouth opened.
And she screamed.
Paige and Ricky's road...
"Huh,I wonder if Maddox's alright," Ricky asked no one.
"Eh,she's Maddox.Whatever happened,she'll pull it through,"Paige
answered,mostly just to reassure herself.
"Yeah," And with that,they fell silent.
After a few minutes of walking,the mist around them cleared a little,they could
see what's in front of them now.The plants were getting larger and taller,both Paige and Ricky had some slashes littering their body while walking past the plants' sharp leaves.But none of them said anything about it,or to say,they don't care enough about themselves,their minds are filled with concern for their friends' safety.
"Owww..." Paige suddenly fell down.The ground scratched her hands.
"You okay?" Ricky asked sincerely.
"I tripped," Paige answered,then looked back,"I swear,these roots are not there
before."
"Huh,that's weird,"Ricky bent down a little to examine the roots.
The root suddenly came to life,wrapping itself tightly around Ricky's right
hand,making him yelp.The roots began climbing up Ricky's arm.His hand turned to a nasty shade of purple.
"What..." Paige sat on the ground,still confused.
"Don't ask why!Help me,"Ricky said while ripping the roots panically.
Paige got on her feet and began ripping and clawing the roots as best as she
could.
They ripped at the roots as hard as they could,and after some terrifying
seconds,the roots fell off of Ricky's arm and dropped to the ground,lifeless.
"Are you okay?" Paige asked.
"Yeah,I'm fine," Ricky answered while looking at his hand,his hand's no longer
purple,it's just a little red from what had happened,"Let's keep moving." "Yeah,this place's crazy,"Paige answered as they began walking.
After a few minutes of walking,they came to a clearing.
The teens stopped as they heard a whistling sound.The mist swirled around them.
"Umm,what's happening?" Paige panicked.She's never a fan of magic,especially the evil kind that wants to kill them.
Ricky didn't respond,he narrowed his eyes,staring to some point in the mist. "Ricky?" Paige asked uncertainty.
"Look,is that...is that...Nini?" Ricky whispered,totally shocked.
Paige stared at the point where Ricky's staring,she could tell it was something,no
wait,someone standing there.The person had long dark hair,which matched perfectly with Nini's,and she's wearing pajamas,like she's being called here during midnight,in her sleep.
Whistling sound...Midnight...The woods...Paige thought,the puzzle pieces slowly coming together in her mind.It's just like E.J.'s ghost story...
"It is Nini!"Paige yelled.
Ricky gave her a nod and ran off toward where Nini's standing.
Paige followed.And they arrived at where Nini's standing.
"Nini?" Ricky asked quietly,
Nini didn't respond,she just stood there like a statue,unmoving,unspeaking,but
breathing.Her eyes are open,but glassy,her hands hung loosely by her side and she just stared into the woods.
"Nini?Hello?Earth to Nini,"Paige waved her hand in front of Nini's face.Nini did not move,she did not blink,she did not do anything,like she's in a trance.
"Let me,"Ricky took over,he began shaking Nini with his hands on her shoulders.Paige could see the determination in his eyes,but a hint of panickiness was in his eyes.
Nini began to stir,"Huh?What...Where...How...?"
"It's fine now,what exactly happened anyway?" Ricky asked,but thought of better and added,"If you don't wanna talk about it,it's okay."
"I...I don't know..."Nini seems very confused,"I remember hearing a whistling sound...and...and I can't remember the rest," Nini's trying her best to remember,but she can't.
Huh.how come the whistling sound didn't work on Ricky or me? Paige thought,we heard that and we didn't go all zombie mode...Maybe...maybe Nini's the target and we're not,that makes sense,it only works on the target...
"It's fine Nini,the most important thing is,you're alive and we can get you out of here," Ricky put his arm around Nini and gave her a slight,reassuring squeeze.
"Speaking of which,where's Maddox?" Nini asked.
Ricky's face turned green,like he just puked his gut out.He was so drawn in this happy moment he forgot about his other friend–Maddox.
"She...um...we should go find her,"Ricky said,removing his arm from Nini. "Yeah..."Paige agreed.
Just like that,they began walking back to the crossroad,hoping their friend was
having a fate that's good enough not to let her be dead.
They got back to the cross roads.They went into the road Maddox chose this time.Weirdly enough,there aren't any monsters attacking them.Sometimes.the plants' leaves may slash them as they cross by,but that's it.
As they went deeper into the woods,the mist became thicker and thicker,almost blinding them.Paige's becoming more nervous and scared,Where is she?What if...Paige mentally slapped herself,No,don't think like that,she's tough,we will find her.
The three walked for a moment,and came to an empty space surrounded by more woods.And in the middle of it...The scene almost made Paige's heart stop.
Right in the middle,lies a person.She's covered in blood,beaten up,and her clothes are tattered.Her head lolled to one side,They can see giant slashes on her body,especially on her arm and ribs.And,there's a silver dagger lying beside her,glowing faintly with blood stained on it.Maddox,that's the first thought that came to Paige's mind.
For a second,it's just three teens standing there,staring,completely frozen by shock and horror.
Paige's the first one to react.
She rushed to Maddox's side.Now she's up close,she could see how concerningly big the slashes are.Maddox seems to be unconscious,her eyes are closed,she's still breathing alright,but her breathing's awfully slow and ragged.Paige thought back to a medical book she once read for homework,and immediately know that Maddox must've broken her ribs.As Paige moved her gaze down to Maddox's stomach,she winced at the sight.There's a chunk missing from her stomach and blood is flowing freely from it.At least it's not that big,Paige thought to herself,But what should I do???
"What should we do?" Ricky asked,obviously panicked.
"I don't know!" Paige answered,her eyebrows scrunched together.
"Well,wake her up!" Nini cut in,and pointed out the obvious none of them saw. Paige immediately got into action,she gently patted Maddox's face,but all it did
was make her head loll to the other side.Paige patted her face with more pressure,but it still didn't work.Paige then shook Maddox's shoulder violently,hoping that could work.Miraculously,that actually worked,Maddox slowly opened her eyes and groaned.Paige had never been happier to see her stormy gray eyes.
"How're you feeling?" Paige questioned softly.
"Mhamh mhhhm,"Maddox mumbled something intelligible.
"Um,Ricky?" Paige shifted her gaze toward Ricky.
"Yes?" Ricky responded,he looks so much more relieved and less terrified now.
"Can you carry her on our way back?" Paige asked Ricky,since Maddox seems to have broken her ribs and Ricky's the strongest among them all.
"Sure thing," Ricky answered while dragging Maddox up the ground gently and placing her on her back.
Paige,Nini and Ricky with Maddox on his back,began walking back where they came from.
On their way back,no more monsters attacked them,the mist cleared a little and the forest seemed to be brighter than when they came in.
Of course,they found their way back,they didn't get lost,unless you count the times Paige misdirected them.
They got to camp at night time.
All of them are relieved,exhausted and happy at the same time. They are finally home,safe at last.
Many years later...
How the things happened in the woods became a mystery for other people. Maddox,Ricky and Paige's experience in the woods was being told as a ghost
story at the campfire and some certain teens(not the original ones) with the same names as Maddox,Ricky,E.J., Nini and Paige were feeling a bit weird,like everything's about to happen...
