Chapter 7: Alleyway: Nina and Stuart

After seeing Doug's pediatrician for his monthly check-up, Nina thought they could take Doug to the park near their apartment for some fresh air.

"The doctor said it will be good for him," Nina said as she dressed Doug with his jacket, cap and shoes. When she saw Stuart grab his car keys, she commented, "It's just a few blocks away. We can walk."

"We can get there faster."

She saw right through him and smiled. "You just don't want to walk, do you?"

He chuckled as he picked up the baby bag and held the door for her so they can leave.

Doug certainly enjoyed the sights and sounds of the park. Stuart gently bounced him as he pointed out the boys playing. Nina tickled him when Stuart got them something to drink. They spent the afternoon relaxing and had fun as a family.

On the way home from the park, they passed by a street lined with various houses decorated for the season. Since it was early evening, some of them have turned on their Christmas lights which made them brighter and more colorful.

"Maybe we could explore a little bit with Doug."

"But he's too young to even remember this," he remarked.

"But we would."

Nina and Stuart took turns in showing Doug the different displays and ornaments. She then gave Doug to him. "Here, hold him and let me take a picture of you two beside that tree."

"Nina, the owners might report us to the cops for trespassing."

She snorted. "We're federal agents and the tree is outside. Besides, it's just a photo. Now, stand still and smile."

Stuart did as she asked and held baby Doug to face her.

"Aww, that is so cute," Nina said while looking at the photo she just took.

"Thanks" Stuart teased.

"I meant Doug."

"Well, I helped made him so that means..."

Nina rolled her eyes. "First of all, you're talking in front of your son. And two," she sighed. "Fine, I guess you're half cute since you get half the credit for Doug."

Stuart laughed then stopped when he saw Nina started walking. "Hey, where are you going? What about you and Doug?"

"I saw a bench over there where you could take a picture."

"And here I thought she would let me have something over her for once," he whispered to little Doug to which the baby giggled.

"Hey, I heard that!"

Stuart snorted. "How can you hear me when you're all the way there?" He started to walk to where Nina went.

"I don't know exactly what you said but I know you said something," she said while brushing the leaves off the bench. When she sat down, Stuart handed Doug to her and positioned himself to take the picture.

Behind the bench were pine trees which made for the perfect background for Nina and baby Doug.

Looking at the picture, he whispered "That's perfect." The photo instantly became Stuart's wallpaper.

"I know, right?" she said as she walked towards him. "But I think it's time to go home."

As she handed Doug back to him, Nina landed a kiss on Stuart's cheek. Surprised at the gesture, he asked. "Oh, what was that for?"

"For agreeing to do this. All of this," she said shyly.

The wide grin stayed on Stuart's face the entire walk home.
