Then I wake up in the testing room， my sister stables my body. I am sweating now . I feel the pang of guilt in my stomach. Tris seems worried but I don't know why. She bites her lips and stands up.
"Please excuse me Celeste， your result is perplexing." She leaves the room very quickly.
Did I do something wrong? Did I do something that show me how terrible person that I am? If it is， what will happen to me ? Will I have to live on the street with the Factionless or that I don't know the result.
Then tris comes in and sits down again.
"I am sorry to worry you Celeste but your test result is inconclusive." Tris shakes her head.
"How is that even possible?" I am shocked . Even I know that no matter what happen that I will have to choose dauntless but that still surprised me .
"It is possible but extremely rare." Tris shrugs ."In the normal condition， the system will selected a result by ruling out the rest but in your case only one have been ruled out."
I feel cold and stiff . How is that possible ? Even I am not erudite but I still know that is impossible
"At the beginning you didn't choose the cheese or the knife， which doesn't tell me you are dauntless or amity . However your knowledge toward the dog shows strong alignment with erudite . Your throw yourself against the dog rather let it attacks the dog which is a dauntless， abnegation and amity act. However when the man told you that the truth will save him， you still withheld it， not an abnegation and Candor oriented response ." Tris stops there ."I can't make the decision in stage one ."
"So you don't know what my result is ?" I narrow my eyes
"Yes and no . To my conclusion， you have the same aptitude for abnegation， erudite， dauntless and amity ." She looks behind me like she expecting someone to appear ." we call this kind of people divergent."
She says in a low voice that I almost don't hear it.
"Celeste as your sister . I have to warn you. Divergent is extremely dangerous and no under any condition that you should tell anyone ." Tris grabs my face ."Even I leave the abnegation but I still love you okay? I want you to be safe ."
"We shouldn't tell anyone our result." I nod at her ."I know it."
"I don't mean now but I mean forever . This secret has to die within you." She grabs my hand and drags me out of the door ."You should go home and staying here will not benefit you."
She closes the door in front of me . I am stiffen now . How can my inconclusive result be dangerous but tris is my sister so I have to trust her .
I leave the school alone . I can't take bus because if I get home early， my parent will raise question about it. I have to walk so I will be at home just on time .
I walk slowly and look around . Tomorrow I will leave here and seek home in other faction. I will be with my sister at least but she can't recognize me in front of other people unless I make it through initiation.
Then I realize that I am around Factionless sector . Everyone smell so bad and I have to cover my nose not to smell it. Some one grabs my arm
"Can I have something to eat?" A factionless man is begging me .
I know that I have to help them and I suppose to want to . I reach for my pocket and take out a bag of apple slices . This is the exact reason why our father told us to have food in our pocket every day.
"You have such pretty eyes but rest of you is so plain." He smiles at me . "It is so young for you to walk alone here."
"I know that I am young. I am 16 years old today." I want to hit him and run away .
"Then isn't the day important for you? The day before you choose!"Man smirks at me , then he releases me . "Choose wisely little girl."
I start running and he laughs behind me . I reach my house five years later than I suppose to . I open the door and my parent are home already
"What is wrong Celeste?" Father frowns . "Why are you at home late?"
"I feel sick so I walk back home ." I shrug. "I don't want to throw up on the bus ."
"Is everything okay?" Caleb stands up
I nod at him. Tonight is Maria's turn to make dinner so I can have a rest.
"I will walk you upstair ." Mom helps me stand
She walks me upstair and to my room. She closes the room behind me
"Celeste , there is something that I have to ask you. You have to tell me the truth ." Mom brushes my hair away.
"Yes mom." I feel so nervous
"What was your relationship with max?" Mom arches her eyebrow at me .
I am surprised that she cares about this more than my result.
"We were dating before ." I lower my head
"Sally's mom told me that sally saw you two broke up in front of school." Mom sighs
"Yeah he falls in love with Abby." I roll my eyes . "I am very sad."
Mom kisses my forehead like she is comforting me
"I know Celeste . I could see that you always sneak out the house at night and I bet that you were seeing someone else from other faction. I never think that will be my best friend from school." Mom says
"Mom?" I raise my voice
"Yes I was from dauntless." Mom nods at me . "Your sister didn't know so you can't tell her . Celeste , you have to leave for real."
I nod at her . I will leave as mom says and finds out the truth. After an hour , we go down and have our dinner . We sit together and no one are speaking.
Dad also knows that I have no choice but leave abnegation. After dinner , father doesn't want me to help him and he asks Caleb and Maria to accompany me .
I sit in my room. Maria rests on my laps . Caleb sits quietly.
"Everything okay? You guys seem even more nervous than me ." I giggle . "It's fine ."
"You are not fine sister , something is wrong with me ." Caleb scoffs. "Why just not telling me and Maria ."
"However you can't tell anyone about it okay?" I say.
I tell them the truth and Maria and Caleb seem to embrace that well. Maria's eyes are full of tears
"I will miss you sister . We love you no matter what." Maria kisses my cheek
"I love you too sweetie." I sigh. "I will see you one day in the future ."
Caleb doesn't move . He just bites his lips and stays there . I fall in sleep very early. I see a dark figure in my dream.
"You are not from Chicago Celeste ." Someone is calling me .
Why I am not from Chicago? Then where I was actually coming from
"You belong to me . They took you away from me Celeste ."
The voice is so familiar that I can't think whose voice that belonged . I wake up screaming and it is already the morning. The sun is about to rise . My mom comes in
"Are you okay?" Mom sits down
"I am fine . Just bad dream again." I shake out the daze.
"What is that about?" Mom asks me
I don't know how to say . This dream maybe is a sign of my memories are coming back.
"The man told me that I don't belong in Chicago and I belong to him." I grab my face . "I don't even know who he is ."
"Can you see him?" Mom tries to calm me down
"No I can't mom. That's the problem. It is just a white picture and the voice is there!" I scream
Mom hugs me and I slowly calming in her arms .
The choosing ceremony happens in the hub . We get there just ten minute before the ceremony. The elevator is crowded with amity so dad leads us to climb the stairs . He is always so selfless and I wander why tris chose to leave them.
We climb 20 flight of stairs to the top and enter the room. This year is max who is hosting the ceremony. Which means it will be short because dauntless hates giving speech .
Mom claps my shoulder and kisses my forehead
"See you one day."
She knows that I will change faction no matter what truth is . I was planning it. I stand at the last row and Maria hugs me
"I love you sister ." Maria is sobbing.
"I love you too." I kiss her forehead
The ceremony starts . Max walks on the stage and he gives out the few words and then start calling name
"James tucker."
James tucker from dauntless stumble to the stage . He falls in the middle of the way and everyone start laughing. I grab his arm
"Are you okay?" I am worried
"Yes , I am fine ." He pushes my hand away. "I don't think that I need a stiff's help."
He walks on the stage and max gives him the knife and he takes it. He drags the knife through his palm and holds above a bowl
"Candor ." Even max announces that in disbelieve
He is the first of us to transfer . I hear someone are crying and I can see that is his parent from dauntless .
"Celeste prior ."
Max nearly choked on my name . I walk on the stage and he grabs my wrist. His eyes pledging for forgiveness . Why he wants my forgiveness
"Can we talk about our relationship after ward?" Max spits out at me
"Gives me the knife ."
I don't want to choose dauntless but I have to. I take the knife and cut my hand open and the blood is dripping out. I hold the hand above the bowl
"Dauntless." Max smirks at me . "I know that you are with me ."
