Chapter 2: The First Ninja Training Class

Lunch hour is over and it's time for the first ninja training class. Kappei, Emma, Archie and the rest of Class 1-A reached the dojo on the 6th floor and first thing's first, change into their ninja outfits. There are 30 lockers in the dojo and 4 changing rooms so first, they put their schoolbags in their lockers and inside, are their ninja outfits.

"How peculiar. They're the same as the ones we wore at the academy!" Kappei noticed.

"Difference is the size. We entered the WNA Academy as preteens and now, we entered this high school as teens." Emma revealed to him as Archie already went in to change. The rest did the same thing and once all are suited up, the door opened and Sensei Tatsu showed up.

"It seems everyone is present, very good. Now gather before me." He ordered as the students obeyed. "Today is your first ninja training here in this high school. Now things will be different compared to the training you received at the WNA Academies before."

"What are the differences sensei?" A student with fair skin and brown hair named Harry asked.

"Firstly, you will not use ninja gum weapons anymore. You will use real ninja weapons but that will only start in your second year." Sensei Tatsu stated. "Secondly, you'll learn and master new martial arts and ninja arts to further improve your skills and abilities and lastly, you'll all get to channel something that you all by now should have experienced it firsthand…"

"The Awakened Power."

"Awakened Power?" A confused Kappei thought as he can hear many talk about it excitedly but for him, "This isn't part of it…I mean…how will I know if I have one or not?"

"Now if you all do not know, Awakened Power is a special manifestation that will manifest in you at the age of 16 to 17 right after you graduate from the WNA academies or in some cases, at a young age depending on your ninja descent or bloodline from the many ninja clans scattered across the world." Sensei Tatsu spoke on. "Back at the WNA Academies, you all underwent the first stage in which you chew the ninja gum unlocking the power of the shinobi. For the awakened power, it's the second stage. When the manifestation takes effect, it awakens the power hidden in you, unleashing the potential allowing you to harness it. Here's an example of my awakened power."

He tapped his samurai armour hard and it glowed a bit and once ready, he took out some controller and pressed a button. A hole opened up on the wall and 5 shurikens shot out and hit the armour! All gasped but soon noticed that the 5 shurikens didn't scratch it and all ended up on the floor.

"What you have witnessed is Armour Enhancement. This awakened power in me enables me to boost the durability of any body armour rendering ranged projectiles useless like bullets and arrows."

Everyone applauded for their teacher as he nodded and took out a tablet. "Now for today's training, I'll call out your name and I'll evaluate your Awakened Powers and note them down on this tablet I'm holding. You can demonstrate them and use them to hit this wooden dummy that I already set up in this dojo if you need to. Don't worry, a new dummy will spawn automatically. If nothing else, Emma, you're first."

"M-Me?" A surprised Emma asked and he nodded. She went to the front and shyly tried to find a way to demonstrate her power when her ears vibrated a bit. "Hey….your ears are being funny." A tall dark-skinned girl with long, dark blonde hair named Nichelle pointed out and then, "Sensei, there are 3 boys vandalizing the restrooms. I can hear the spray-painting and their laughing from here." Emma told him.

He said nothing and immediately left the dojo. Seconds later, he returned. "I caught them red-handed and they're given 3 weeks of detention. As for you, this is a unique power."

"Yeah thanks. Extreme Hearing I can describe it." Emma replied.

"A fitting name for your awakened power." Sensei-Tatsu then noted it down on his tablet. "Mates, this ninja high school is dope! I'm next!" A male student with fair skin, black hair shaved into a sloped hairstyle and speaks with an Australian accent went next. "Check this out!"

All watched as he placed both hands together clenched and fisted and soon enough, he created and shaped out a sword made out of pure, white energy as he displayed some moves. "Well then Davis, I'm suppose to call out your name but oh well, I'll name it Photon Blade."

"So be it teach." Davis replied as the sensei noted it down as many students excitedly began demonstrating their awakened powers except a nervous Kappei.

"My turn!" Archie called out and Sensei Tatsu nodded. So he stepped forth and, "POOF!"

"He turned into a cloud of smoke!" A male student with fair skin and light brown hair which is slightly long at the side and back named Hank exclaimed as the grey smoke blew around the dojo and then, "POOF!"

"Ta-daa!" Archie cheered as Sensei Tatsu nodded. "Smoke Cloud."

After him, a male student with fair skin and brown hair named Cruz went next and his eyes became black as he did some scanning. "X-ray Vison."

"I shall go then." A male student with fair skin and black hair named Jeong stepped forth. He looked at his classmates eyeing a bit and then, closed his eyes. He then opened them and, "Look! His eyes are blue!" Emma pointed out and, "VMMM!"

All were amazed as some sort of holographic wall surrounded him and he's seen browsing through them with his hands by shifting the numerous holographic pages on the wall. "Lots of data…amazing! Many interesting profiles! Fantastic!" He browsed through with focused gazing and then, he blinked his eyes and the wall vanished. "This is some awakened power…" Sensei Tatsu observed and thought of the name. "Data Archive."

Next, a girl with fair skin and long blonde hair named Maeve created a mirror image of herself as it faded at her will. "Illusion."

After her, a girl with fair skin and long, purple hair with pink highlights on the end named Vega made her move as she got down and morphed into a brown mouse with a bit of purple and pink highlights on her mouse body. "KAWAII!" Some girls cheered as Sensei Tatsu keyed on his tablet. "Rodent."

Once she's done, Hank went to the front and touched the wooden dummy. "IOOM!"

"Whoa! It exploded!" Cruz exclaimed. "Yeah I caused it to blow up." Hank explained and the sensei noted it down. "Rupture."

After that, Harry generated energy on his arm and swung it creating a wave of energy that hit the wooden dummy slicing it in half. "Energy Wave."

After him, Nichelle stepped forth and got on her knees when a transformation took effect. "She morphed into a lioness!" Vega exclaimed as she roared at the class and then, Sensei Tatsu pet her on the head as she morphed back to her human form. "Lioness."

Up next, a tall, buff and bald male student with brown skin named Bull transformed both his lower arms into hammers made out of energy construct. "Hammer Arm."

And then, a girl with fair skin and blue-green hair tied into long pigtails named Ting Ting created a red heart. After examining it, "Life Recovery." And following that, the remaining students demonstrated their awakened powers.

A dark-skinned boy with black hair named Avitus created blue flames on his body. "Blue Flame."

A very fair-skinned girl with medium-length snow white hair named Chantelle created crystals of ice. "Ice Crystal."

A short boy with fair skin and a slightly shaved head in which the hair colour is light grey named Joey displayed his power by channeling sky blue energy on his fist and when he struck his fist on the ground. All found themselves surrounded by the energy. "Dudes…I'm like, protected by some energy shield or something!" Avitus exclaimed as Sensei Tatsu nodded to himself. "Shieldbearer."

A boy with tanned skin, white hair and wears sunglasses named Kolton created a red, explosive energy orb and launched it in the air. It exploded splitting into 8 smaller orbs. "Cluster Bomb."

A girl with slightly tanned skin and light brown hair tied into medium-length pigtails named Lucia touched the sensei's armour and she was completely coated with the metal. "Metal Coat."

A girl with tanned skin and short, black hair tied into short pigtails named Miyumi demonstrated her power as she walked through the wall of the dojo and walked back in surprising everyone. "Phasing."

A girl with fair skin and short, brown hair tied into short pigtails just like Miyumi named Midori went next and screamed out a loud, piercing voice enough for everyone to cover their ears. "Hyper Voice."

A boy with fair skin and orange hair named Mikelus charged up a green energy orb and it fired into a bolt of energy piercing the dummy. "Plasma Bolt."

A boy with dark brown skin and short, black hair shaved into a sloped hairstyle with thin dreadlocks covering his forehead, sides and back named Marcel made his move as the finger tips of his fingers turned into gun muzzles. He then took aim and a hail of bullets shredded the wooden dummy into pieces. "Bullet Fingers."

A boy with fair skin and brown, curly hair named Kurt channeled a magnetic field and some metal items in the dojo were magnetized around him. "Magnetokinesis."

A boy with slightly tanned skin and red, spiky hair named Dedrick opened 2 portals. He went through one and emerged from the other. "I'll simply call it, Portal."

A boy with tanned skin and black hair which is swiped to the back and spiky at the end named Yamikage first bowed to the class and then, "FWOOSH!"

"Did he just enter the sensei's shadow mates?" Davis asked and then, Yamikage emerged out and went into his shadow followed by a few others. "Shadow Merge." Sensei Tatsu named it right.

A girl with fair skin and blonde hair tied into a ponytail named Anais created chains made out electricity as she swung it around. "Chain Lightning."

A tall boy with fair skin, yellow green hair and wears a brown fedora named Shane got on his fours while morphing into a crocodile. "And yes, I'll call it, Crocodile." Sensei Tatsu named it.

A girl with fair skin and long, wavy blonde hair named Colette touched Sensei Tatsu's armour and, "POOF!"

"Cool. He looks formal for business." Midori described for Sensei Tatsu found himself wearing a business suit. And then, "POOF!" He found himself wearing pajamas as some students snickered. And finally, "POOF!" All howled in laughter over the sight of their teacher wearing a dress. "Okay enough already." He told Colette and, "POOF!" He's wearing his armour as he keyed on his tablet. "Fashion Style."

A tall boy with tanned skin and wears a dark grey jacket with a hood over his head named Slick generated a yellow energy orb that floated and hovered it the air and when near the dummy, it shot down onto it. "IOOM!" That's a lot of splinters. "Heat Seeker."

A short boy with slightly tanned skin, forest green hair in the style of a mohawk and wears purple shades named Declan created an electric field around him as electricity sparked and zapped around his body. "Voltage Field."

And with everything proceeding well, "Alright…29 students have displayed their Awakened Powers so far." Sensei Tatsu as he checked his tablet. After looking through, "Kappei. You're the last."

Swallowing hard, Kappei went to the front and tried to think of something. Everyone stared at him confused and Emma felt concerned for him. "Um…I got nothing."

"WHAT?" All exclaimed as they murmured among themselves. "Excuse me?" Sensei Tatsu asked with a stern glare. "I'm serious. I don't feel anything awakening in me. I…don't know when it'll happen…or what if…"

"Never mind. Perhaps you have yet to awaken it. It might take some time and hopefully once you have it, then I can evaluate you." Sensei Tatsu assured to Kappei as Avitus raised his hand. "Is it rare for ninjas to awaken their power later?"

"Sometimes." He answered. "I had a few students in the past that haven't awakened their power but after less than a week, it actually happened."

"Interesting. Unless our mate here doesn't have it at all." Davis smirked referring to Kappei as he glared at him for saying that. "Give your classmate the time he needs. Now if nothing else, get into positions and prepare for some basic martial arts training."

And so the students spent around 50 minutes training on their moves as they executed straight punches, front kicks and the sensei will try to correct their moves and postures so that they can deal close combat moves properly. There are also 2-minute breaks in between the training so that students can ease down a bit.

After that, Sensei Tatsu gathered the students and demonstrated basic defense moves teaching them how to properly counter attacks in the right position. Once done, he got every student to try and defend themselves from his attacks. Some like Davis, Archie and even Kappei handled it well, some like Emma, Ting Ting and Anais sort of need to work on their agility and others like Midori, Joey and Kurt lack focus. Regardless, the sensei is always there to guide the students.

"Okay, we have 5 minutes left till school day is over for you students. You can change back to your casual attires and after that, I'll see you all tomorrow. Have a good day." Sensei Tatsu told the class as they spent the remaining time changing back to their casual attires and by the time the last few students are done, the bell rang.

And so...

With the first day over, students are seen leaving the high school and heading back to their dorms. But in the hallway, Kappei is still feeling unsure of himself as Emma and Archie noticed the change in his behaviour. "Are you feeling alright Kappei?" Emma asked him.

"I don't know...I didn't even know awakened power exists! How will I ever manifest one in myself?" He asked.

"Chill out man. Maybe you'll soon awaken it. Maybe not today, maybe tomorrow or the following day or next week. We won't start training on our awakened powers yet until the next term." Archie assured to him. "So you have plenty of time to hopefully one day feel the power awakened in you."

"You think?" Kappei asked.

"He's right. We believe in you so don't worry about a thing." Emma assured to him and he smiled. "Thanks guys. It's only the first day so yeah, I shouldn't worry so much."

They soon exit the school and outside, Emma went to the Girl's Dorm on the right beside the school and the boys went the other direction to their dorm.

That night...

In his dorm, Kappei is doing his math homework while Gumchi sat on his bed drinking a can of orange soda while enjoying the cooling air from the air conditioner. "Yumm-ee! Yumm-ee!"

"How's everything Gumchi?" Kappei asked and he just cheered in happiness. He smiled about it as he looked at the time, 9pm. "Just several more questions left and I can surf the internet...good thing I freshen up before doing my homework."

And several minutes later, he's done and with that, he turned on his PC and went to the website, Ninjatube. In there, many ninja-related videos as Kappei watched a video of a ninja showcasing his swordsmanship. In the middle of it, he got a text message. "Grampa wants to call me through video call in the PC."

So he paused his video and went to the video call application. There, he waited and soon enough, an incoming call took effect and he answered it.

"Ah...good to see you Kappei. It's my first time using video call even though I still ain't sharp in the electronics and stuff." Gen'unsai spoke to him.

"Hi grampa. It's good to see you." Kappei greeted him as Gumchi jumped in. "Hi! Hi!"

"I see you both are doing fine. How is your first day at high school Kappei?"

"It was great! I met my new classmates, the food is as great as back at the WNA Academy, ninja training is tough but useful and best of all, I met Emma!"

"Ah...that girl you heroically saved back at that one Ninjala Tournament and not to mention, the ninja dancer. I do remember her now...and to think she also got enrolled here as well..."

"You look really surprised."

"I do. The Advanced WNA High School in Komerika is known to be the no.1 ninja high school according to statistics from the WNA. Most ninjas would gladly want to be enrolled here but they do not know that it's randomized by the WNA." Gen'unsai stated. "Now, is there anything else you want to talk about?"

"Well...if I tell you now, you'll be mad at me?" Kappei asked and he looked surprised. Still, "You see...there is something called...Awakened Power that manifests in a ninja and unlocks the potential allowing the ninja to wield power beyond anything. Truth is...I have to...uh..."

"Speak up."

"Right! I have yet to...awaken it."

Gumchi looked perplexed and Gen'unsai was speechless as Kappei continued on. "Am I a true ninja? I wish I knew when I can feel the awakening and-"

"Don't dwell so much on this Kappei. Just focus on your studies and training, stay out of trouble and do your very best. That is all I want you to do so that you can enjoy the experience. Alright?"

"Yes grampa. I understand."

"Time will tell on your awakening. Now get some shuteye and don't stay up too late. I...(yawn)...too need some shuteye for my age. Goodnight."

"Goodnight grampa and thanks."

The video call ended as Kappei looked at the time. Still early so he continued watching some more videos in Ninjatube while Gumchi played with his shinai on his bed.

Around 10pm, Kappei shut down his PC, went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and once done, he went to his comfy bed and turned off the lights. "Goodnight Gumchi."

"Night-ee! Night-ee!" The little yellow gum greeted back and he has his own bed which is simply a cardboard box with a soft pillow and blanket comfy enough for him. First day at high school is pretty decent one can say.

In this story, Awakened Power is mentioned and introduced in the prologue. And here, it's being displayed in many types.

However, Kappei has either yet to awaken the power in him. So when will it awaken?

And in some chapters, there'll be characters of the chapter in which I will write info and bios about them and some of it is related to the anime. Below is the first one. Alright, see you in the next chapter!

Profile

Raised in an orphanage, Emma spent her time looking out for the kids and mastering her dance moves. Even so, power has awakened in her ears and she often does vigilante activities at night making use of it. Her life changed when Laura Warren scouted her due to her ninja heritage and dance moves. Through her, she attended WNA Academy and made many friends especially Lucy who's considered her best friend during her time.

After 3 years, she graduated and returned to the orphanage to resume her usual routine and a few months later, Laura returned and revealed that she's been accepted to the Advanced WNA High School in California. Though it's far, she promised to visit the children and the caretakers when she has the time.

And things had changed when she ran into Kappei which on one hand, excited her and on the other hand, his presence made her feel something inside for she's been hiding it in her heart for some time. Who knows how things will change between him and her...

Awakened Power: Extreme Hearing

This power awakened in her early age enabling her to hear sounds from great distances. Sounds involve secret discussions and noises from far away and with that, Emma can locate enemy activity to thwart it, avoid security when infiltrating strongholds and acquire secret intel from the secret enemy meetings and gatherings.
