Chapter One: Today's the Day!

"Victor..."

"Victor!..."

"VICTOR!!!"

With a loud shriek, Victor Quinn sat up in bed, having been startled awake. "For God's sake Pitt, you could have given me a heart attack! What was that for? Wait, what are you doing in my house?" The short brunette boy, Pitt Toru, had a gleam in his eyes, and a smile as wide as can be. Seemingly unfazed by his friends outburst, he responded. "I tried waking you up gently, but you wouldn't wake up! And your mom let me in, now get up, today's the day and we promised Jane we would meet her in 20 minutes!" Victor was a bit confused, 'Today's the day? What's so special about today?' He took a look at the calendar he kept on his bedside table, he saw he circled today and wrote in big bold letters 'Duel Academy Entrance Exam!!!'

"... SHIT!!!" Victor sprang out of bed and dashed across his house. Going from room to room getting ready. "How did you forget that Duel Academy's Exam was today? We've been talking about it for months!" Pitt chimed in, while snickering at his friend's manic behavior. However, Victor didn't appreciate Pitt's comment. "The same way you forgot to keep growing after 6th grade, half-pint!" This time Victor was laughing, but that didn't last long before Pitt tripped him and he fell on his face. This cartoonist back and forth behavior kept going until Victor was finally ready to go. Pitt was waiting by the front door. "Okay, let's go through the list. Do you have your application forms?" Victor held up some papers. "Right here." "Great, what about your deck?" Victor tapped his deck case that was strapped to his belt, before walking out the door. "Victor!" What?" Pitt pointed at the Duel Disk that sat on the table by the front door. Victor smiled sheepishly and took it. Finally both boys made their way to the train station, which would take them to the Duel Academy test site.

*One Train Ride Later*

Victor and Pitt were running as fast as they could to get to the exam, so much in fact, that they weren't paying attention to the people in front of them, and crashed into a small group of applicants. "Hey, Watch it!" Before anything more could come of it, a female voice from behind them called out. "Sorry, these two idiots are with me." Victor and Pitt turned to see the voice belonged to Jane, their friend they were supposed to meet. Pitt was the first to get on his feet. "Hey Jane, sorry we're late, the windbag over here needed his beauty sleep." Victor got up. "Hey, it takes effort to look this good." "Yeah, if by effort you mean oversleeping and red hair dye." Before Victor and Pitt could continue, Jane grabbed them both by their ear and dragged them to the registration desk, them shouting in pain all the way. Jane was frustrated with her friends behavior, but not surprised, she often had to pry them apart when they got into these scuffles. Jane was in no mood for their nonsense today, this was too important to mess up! "Jane Minta, Pitt Toru, and Victor Quinn checking in for the Duel Exam." The man at the desk checked a list, and scratched off three names. "Alright listen up you three, here's how this works. You'll each be given a number based on how well you did on your written exam that you took last month, that number decides when you'll have your Duel. After your Duel, you'll be told by your Procter if you've done well enough overall to make it into Duel Academy. Keep in mind that your Duel is being watched by a panel of administrators whose sole job is to analyze your dueling skills. Now, any questions?" All three shook their heads. The man continued "Very well, here are your numbers. Jane Minta #35, Pitt Toru #101, Victor Quinn #63. Head inside, and good luck." The three walked in and were taken back at the site before them. Jane was the first to break the collective silence. "I can't believe they rented a professional dueling field just for the exam, I didn't think we'd be setting foot in one of these until we got to the academy." Victor was equally suprised "Same, I thought they were just gonna use some regular sport stadium and convert it, but this layout is impressive." They all took a seat at the bleachers and waited for their names and numbers to be called. After a short while, a tall blonde man in a blue blazer walked into the center of the duel field, a microphone in his right hand. "Good morning applicants, I am Doctor Vellian Crowler, Department Chair of Techniques at Duel Academy. I am also part of todays Duel Panel. It is my job to examine not only what cards you use, but how you use them. Today you'll all be dueling our Procters, all of whom will be using specially assembled Testing Decks. Now some of you might think that you're already the best around,or that you'll have no problem beating a test deck, but be warned, these duel procters will not hold back against you. So duel well, otherwise, the door is right there. Good Luck!" Dr.Crowler walked off of the field, and walls were instantly raised up, splitting the duel field up into four sections. A voice from the speakers graabbed everyone's attention. "We will now begin with applicants #2-#99, called at random." Victor, Jane and Pitt eagerly awaited there names to be called, while watching the first few rounds of duels. But before they knew it, it was time. "Three duel fields are available, #35 Jane Minta to Feild One, #2 Lucien Briggs to Feild Two, and #63 Victor Quinn to Field Four." Pitt looked up at his friends. "Well, good luck guys, im sure youll do great!" Jane gave Pitt a hug, Victor fist bumped him. Both of them headed down to their respective duel fields. However, Victor was to busy looking at Jane to notice someone right in front of him. He bumped into a boy in a black school uniform. He had a look of annoyance on his face, but there was something about the look in his eyes that made Victor uncomfortable. "Watch it, punk!" Before Victor could retort, the boy walked away, over to Field Two. 'That must have been that Lucien guy... what a prick.' Victor tried his best to move on and made his way to the field, where a woman in a purple blazer was waiting for him. "Hello applicant, I'm Procter Amelia. Are you ready to duel?"

Victor smiled confidently. "Procter, I was born ready!" "Very well..." They both strapped their duel disks to their arms, then inserted their decks. The disks turned on, and the decks were automatically shuffled. Both Duelists got into a stance before shouting the phrase that signalled the start of the battle.

"LET'S DUEL!" "LET'S DUEL!"

Victor Quinn LP:4000

Proctor Amelia LP:4000

Both duelists took five cards from the top of their deck. With Proctor Amelia taking the first turn. "I'll go first. I summon Informer Spider in defense mode." Informer Spider,Level 4, EARTH, Insect/Effect, ATK:500 , DEF: 1800. "Then I'll set two cards face down. Your turn, Applicant." Victor took a deep breath, steadying himself as he got ready to make his move. "I draw! I summon Sonic Duck in attack mode." Sonic Duck, Level 3,WIND,Winged Beast, ATK:1700, DEF: 700. "Next, I activate the spell card Banner of Courage. Thanks to this card, all my monsters gain 200 attack points during my battle phase. Now that might not sound like much, but that should give Sonic duck just enough power to destroy your spider. Sonic Duck, attack Informer Spider!" Sonic Duck ATK:1700-1900. Sonic Duck charges at Informer Spider, crashing into it and destroying it. "I'll set two cards face down and end my turn." The Proctor took her turn. "Draw... I summon Neo Bug, and I'll immediately attack your duck." Neo Bug, Level 4,EARTH,Insect,ATK:1800,DEF:1700. "Oh no you don't, I activate my facedown trap, Scrap-iron Scarecrow!." One of Victors facedown cards flipped up, as a scarecrow made of scrap appeared in front of Neo Bug, stopping its attack. "Scrap Iron Scarecrow stops your attack, and then goes back facedown so I can use it again later." At that moment, one of the proctors facedown cards flipped up. "I activate my quick play spell, Double Cyclone! I destroy one spell or trap I control, and one that you control. Ill destroy my remaining facedown, and your scrap iron Scarecrow!" True to her words, two cyclones generated from the spell, destroying both of the selected cards. Next I activate my field spell, Spider Web!" As she played the card, the environment around them began to change, as spiderwebs sprouted all over.

"Alright I'll bite, what does it do?" Victor had never heard of this card, and unknowns were dangerous, especially in this Duel. If he wasn't careful, he could lose, and losing meant not getting in to Duel academy, unacceptable. The proctor smirked. "You'll find out soon enough. It's your move." Victor grunted, frustrated. "Draw... first, I activate my Fissure spellThis destroys the weakest monster you control, or in this case, the ONLY monster you control." A hole opened up underneath Neo Bug, and it fell through.. "Next, I'll activate Double Summon. Now I can summon twice this turn. I first summon Luster Dragon in attack mode!." Luster Dragon,Level 4,WIND,Dragon,ATK:1900,DEF:1600. "But he's not sticking around, I tribute him to summon Strong Wind Dragon!" Strong Wind Dragon,Level 6,WIND,Dragon,ATK:2400,DEF:1000. "Strong Wind has a neat effect, since i tributed a Dragon monster to bring him out, he gains half that monsters attack!" Strong Wind Dragon ATK:2400-3350. "Strong Wind, attack directly with Mighty Hurricane!!" The dragon flapped its wings, and several guests of wind bombarded the proctor.

Proctor Amelia LP:4000-650

Victor smirked, rather pleased with his powerful attack, however he soon realized his mistake, when Strong Wind was enveloped in spider webs. "What the- what is this?" Proctor Amelia explained, "That is my field spells effect, at the end of each battle phase, any moster that attacked is changed to defense mode, and stays that way until the end of its owners next turn.

You certainly are Impressive Applicant, but we're not done yet. I Draw... first I activate Foolish Burial, this lets me send a monster from my deck to the graveyard. Next I activate Giant Trunade, this sends all spell and trap cards on the field back to their owners hands." Victors facedown was blown away. "I activate Pot of Greed, which lets me draw two cards." She took a moment to look at her new cards, before smiling. "Perfect, I activate Shield crush, which lets me destroy one monster you control in defense mode, or in this case your ONLY monster." A beam of light shot out from the spell, destroying Strong Wind Dragon. "Finally,by banishing two Insect monsters from my graveyard, I can special summon Doom Dozer!

Doom Dozer,Level 8,EARTH,Insect/Effect,ATK:2800,DEF:2600. "Now, with your field empty, Doom Dozer attacks you directly!" Doom Dozer let out a frightening screech, and charged full speed at Victor, knocking him backwards. "AAGH!"

Victor Quinn LP:4000-1200.

"Doom Dozers ability forces you to send a card from the top of your deck to the graveyard when it deals battle damage." Victor sent the card at the top of his deck to the graveyard. "Your move Applicant" 'Yeah' Victor thought, 'My last move. I need a miracle to pull this off...' "I draw... and hello miracle! I activate pot of greed, which lets me draw two cards. First I summon Armored Bee." Armored Bee,Level 4,WIND, Insect/Effect, ATK:1600,DEF:1200 "Now I'll activate its special ability, I can halve the attack of a monster on the field. so I'll nerf your Doom Dozer." Armored Bees stinger glows, then it stings Doom Dozer. Doom Dozer ATK:2800-1400 Now I activate my quick play spell Forbidden Lance. this Lowers a monsters attack by 800, in exchange, they're not affected by other spells or traps this turn. Doom Dozer ATK:1400-600. "Armored Bee, End this!!" 1600 - 600 = 1000

Proctor Amelia LP:650-0

With the duel over, the holograms faded. The proctor touched her ear, seemingly she had an earpiece. "The Duel panel and I are in agreement, Congratulations Mr.Quinn, you're officially a student at Duel Academy!
