Mary has never been more thankful for her career than she was at this point. With its great pay and flexibility in time, it has allowed her to work around the time her morning sickness would finally let up for the day, which was normally around the evenings; she was always so tired these days and could only eat crackers but she soldiered on and continued working on the script that is due in a few days.

It has been three months since she moved out of Mark's estate. She managed to find a house within the city after weeks of living in a hotel. It wasn't permanent, she still plans to move back to her house in the west after her baby is born. Right now, at nearly seven months pregnant, she just wanted to have a comfortable place to work and be in very close proximity to the hospital in case something goes wrong since she lives alone.

Stephanie insisted that Mary fly to Greenwich or at least to Seattle where she and Paul can keep an eye on Mary and help her out with the baby when needed. But Mary declined, she didn't want to do anything or make any more major decision other than her divorce and having the baby there in Austin.

Steph was livid when Mary had told her what happened but Mary insisted that she's going to be alright and that after thinking about it, she couldn't blame Mark for reacting the way he did. Still, she loves the man but understands completely that he just doesn't feel the same way, especially now that he even thinks that the child she's carrying isn't his.

Mary waited for months for him to call but he never did. So she finally had him served with the divorce papers weeks ago, and was hoping to get a call from her lawyer any day soon to tell her that he had signed it.

But instead, Mark was rapping loudly on her front door. After Mary moved out, he flew to Knoxville to visit Glenn instead and decided to wait out his next trip from there. He came home last week and saw the divorce papers in the mail. He read through and was furious when he saw the child-support clause.

He was hoping he was wrong, but it really turned out that most women want the same thing: money.

Mary sighed and got up from the kitchen table where she had been working all day, to see who it was and was surprised when she saw Mark at her doorstep.

"How-how did you know where I live?" She asked, clearly puzzled, as she opened the door a fraction, just allowing her head to poke out. He had tried asking their common friends from his work, but no one knew where she was. He wanted to ask Stephanie, but he knew she'd protect her best friend. He called Glenn for help instead and in no time, he was speaking to the realtor who sold Mary her home.

"What the damn hell is this, woman?" He asked, shaking the divorce papers in her face. She sighed, she's really tired and just wanted a good night's sleep.

"Well, we are divorcing and you need to sign the papers to–"

"Stop being such a smart-mouth, lady. I know what this is. I'm asking about this!" He pointed at the child-support clause. She winced. She had specifically told the lawyer that Steph referred her to to remove the child-support clause. She earns more than enough, she didn't need Mark's involvement in raising her child, especially his money. And besides, she didn't think it was fair for him to support a child he didn't even want or recognize as his in the first place.

"I knew you were trying to pull off something–" Mark stopped mid-sentence as Mary opened the door wider and stepped out the doorway to grab the papers from Mark's hand. Mark's eyes widened in surprise upon seeing her bump, then it dawned on him just how long it has been since they last saw each other.

His attention on her growing baby bump was taken away by a loud ripping sound. Mary had torn the divorce papers and looked up at him, "I'm sorry about that. I made it clear to my lawyer to leave that part out. I'll call them now and have the copy I asked for initially to be sent to you tomorrow."

Mark stood still, his emerald green eyes looking at her brown ones, then down at her bump. Mary frowned realizing that he must have found the sight of her all big and round, revolting. She crossed her arms and stood taller, hoping to hide as much of her bump as possible, trying to ward off the insecurity brought by his gaze.

"Is there something else I can help you with, Mark?"

It took a few more beats of silence before Mark found his voice again, "Just make sure they send the right one as soon as possible so we can get this over with." He replied, turning away.

Mary sighed as she watched Mark walk down her driveway towards his truck and drove away. She rubbed her bump, shaking her head as she went back inside her house. It felt so surreal, seeing and hearing Mark this way towards her. It's as if he has turned into a completely different man from the one she came to love so swiftly over the years.

It was then that she allowed herself to finally break down. She can no longer deny the fact that she was beyond hurt and crushed by the way Mark had treated her and her baby. What he said before she left their home played on a loop in her head

"She's the real love of my life, you know? Ellie… And if you think you can replace Ellie and William with that–child you claim is mine, you can't. You can never…"

Not that she was trying to replace his ex wife, she thought to herself. She always knew she couldn't live up to her based on what Steph had told her about Ellie. Which was why she mainly kept her emotional distance from what she and Mark had at the beginning.

But she also knew that she can't blame Mark forever. He did make it clear to her that he didn't want kids anymore, but she also couldn't get herself to let go of her baby which she now knows that she had always wanted.

She cried some more before she composed herself enough to call her lawyer and explain the situation. Once she got off the call, she cleaned up and headed to bed, hoping to sleep away the heartache.

This will all be over soon. She thought to herself as she lay on her side in bed, cradling her growing bump. Despite loving her husband, Mary couldn't wait to move back to the west and get out of Mark's radar. Her heart breaks for her child, knowing that as long as she's in town, there would always be a chance to bump into Mark and she doesn't know if she could take his disdain and blunt rejection for her child.
