Ben's pov
Duel Academy looked amazing from the helicopter we had to take in order to get there. The volcano and forest really set a nice looking scene to look at. As the chopper landed I grabbed my bag and followed the rest of the new students to the central building for orientation.
{ " There's something different about this place. I can't quite put my finger on it but it feels different here."} Riley said. He was right I wasn't sure what exactly it was but something here was different than in Domino.
Entering the building I saw other students forming a line to check in. Getting in line I looked around and was impressed at how quickly the segregation Riley had warned me about was coming to pass, he'd said that people would jump at the opportunity to put others down but I didn't think it'd happen this fast. Already the students in Obelisk Blue were separating from those wearing yellow and red. While I figured I wouldn't be in Slifer Red, I didn't think being placed in Ra Yellow would actually be any better despite Riley's insistence it would be. Going by some of the more vocal blues that I'd heard Ra's were called rejects which was almost as bad as Slifer's being called slackers.
{ " You know it truly is impressive that Kaiba created an entirely new form of segregation based on the color of one's jacket entirely accidentally."} Riley remarked as we reached the front of the line. { " I mean most people probably have to put tremendous amounts of effort into creating a divide but Kaiba just casually does it."}
I tell my name to the clerk who after checking a list gets up and goes into a back room. A few seconds later she comes back carrying a white box with a blue line down the center.
" Looks like you were put into Obelisk Blue. The box has your uniform, duel disk and Personal Duel Assistant." She says grabbing a piece of paper and placing it on top of the box. " This paper tells you where your room is and your class schedule. The key should be included in the box."
Thanking the clerk, I was then gestured to a room to change into my uniform. After changing into my uniform I walked out and looked at the other students who had already changed into their uniforms. I was suddenly very glad I didn't go for the coattail option. Seeing nearly every male Obelisk Blue student wearing that version of the jacket made it seem far less cool.
{ " Riley I'm glad I listened to you about the coattails."} I told him. {" Also how did we get into Obelisk Blue? I thought you had to go to a dueling prep school."}
{" Yeah, good thing you did."} He replied. {" I thought so too. Maybe it was the internship though, it also was run by Kaiba corp just like this place."}
{"Could be."} I said, {"Anyone we need to be worried about?"}
{" I don't really know."} He replied. { Jaden could be a challenge and if Koyo's intern is here he might also be a small challenge, but neither of them scream evil or supernatural to me."}
After a few minutes of waiting all of the freshmen were guided to the auditorium where Chancellor Shepherd introduced himself and gave a speech before dismissing us to go unpack.
Following the directions on the piece of paper the clerk had handed me, I was easily able to locate my new room.
"Damn." Riley said as we looked around the room in awe. " Kaiba really spared no expenses when it came to the Obelisk dorms."
"Yeah." I said dumbfounded as I looked at the luxurious furnishings. Throwing my stuff in the closet I crashed on the bed which felt amazing and let the surreality of my situation hit me. I was actually here.
{ " Let's go look around."} Riley suddenly said.
{ " Why? "} I asked, {" Isn't the welcome dinner soon anyway."}
{" So we can get the lay of the land."} Riley responded, {" we need to know where everything is and start looking for clues about whatever supernatural stuff is going to happen here."}
{ " Right, you said you only saw up to the entrance exams."} I recalled, {" so I guess we should look around."}
Getting up and grabbing my duel disk I left my room. As we made our way around the campus we heard several interesting things such as some stories about a female freshman called Alexis who some were calling the queen of Obelisk Blue. I was meanwhile branded as the False Obelisk because I hadn't attended Duel prep school. That'd probably hurt my chances of making friends with the other obelisks, Riley seemed to like it though.
Passing by the Obelisk duel arena I heard some voices. Deciding to check it out I walked in and saw two boys in red jackets and two boys with blue jackets having a chat.
{" The brown haired boy in red is Jaden Yuki. Yugi gave him a Winged Kuriboh."} Riley chimed in. " We might as well go see what's happening.
"No we don't have to leave, not so long as one of you agrees to duel me. Then I'll be a guest duelist." Jaden was saying in an upbeat manner.
"Hey you're that kid that beat Crowler." Said the boy in blue on the left.
"Chazz that applicant that beat Crowler is here check it out." Said the boy in blue on the right to another Obelisk Blue student in the bleachers whom I recognized.
{" Great this guy."} Riley said. He'd never liked Chazz.
" Oh hey, what's up." Jaden began saying, " my names Jaden and he's Chuzz was it."
{ "Hahahaha"} Riley burst out laughing. { " We've got to tell Joey about this so he can tell Koyo."}
" His name is Chazz Princeton the number one duelist back at Duel Prep School. So make sure to pay him proper respect. Got it." Said Obelisk lackey number 1.
" Yeah, he's gonna be the future king of games." Began Obelisk Lackey number 2. " The best duelist in the entire world."
"Impossible " said Jaden, Riley and I. Even though I was the only one who could hear Riley, he seemed annoyed with this line of dialogue.
" Say what?" Lackey number 2 questioned.
" See it's impossible for him to be the future King of Games because that's exactly what I'm gonna be." Jaden stated.
" Actually it's impossible because for that to happen he'd have to beat me." Riley and I both said announcing our presence in the most dramatic fashion possible, even if they could only see and hear me. " Hey Chazz or is it Chuzz now?
" Oh hey your the guy who dueled before me at the entrance exams." Jaden said " You're probably the second best duelist here. In fact you seem almost as good as me."
{" Almost?"} Riley said sounding annoyed and indigent. {" I decimated my opponent in the exams and he barely won from what I remember."}
" Can it all of you." Chazz spoke for the first time clearly fed up with everyone. "Maybe the slacker and the so called False Obelisk over there are right, after all the slacker did beat Crowler and that legendary rare card of his. I suppose that took some skill. "
" Got that right." Jaden snarked back.
" Or perhaps it was luck?" Chazz continued as if he hadn't been interrupted. " I say we find out right now."
" Bring it." Jaden said.
"Fine, I'll play the winner." I declared annoyed both the fact they were acting as if I wasn't there and at the implication that Jaden thought he could beat Riley. I couldn't beat Riley, in fact so far only Joey had, though Riley said Koyo likely also could've beaten him. Privately I had some doubts about that since Riley had yet to use his favorite card against either of them or anyone else for that manner.
" Awesome. I can't wait to duel you." Jaden exclaimed looking at me with an excited grin.
"Well this sure is a motley crew." Came a voice from the entrance.
Turning I saw a beautiful blonde girl in a white and blue uniform walking towards us.
" Hey Alexis have you come to watch me mop the floor with my new friend Jaden." Chazz said his voice changing to a tone I assumed he thought was sauve. " It'll be a short duel but an entertaining one for me I'm sure."
" I'm here to remind you about the Obelisk Welcome Dinner, your late." Alexis said coldly.
" Oh yeah come on guys. Ben I'll see you around. " Chazz said as him and his Lackey's departed.
Turning to the Slifers Alexis said " Sorry if Chazz rubbed you the wrong way, all of us Obelisks aren't like that. He's just a jerk."
" That's no big deal. Those types don't really bother me at all." Jaden said " Besides I'd have beaten him in one turn."
" Work on that confidence." Said the blue haired Slifer next to Jaden.
" Ok two turns, maybe two and a half." Jaden corrected himself.
{ " Please Chazz should have no problems taking on Jaden."} Riley said.
" The Slifer welcome dinner is probably also about to start." Alexis interjected.
"Right we better go Syrus." Jaden said as he began to jog off. Reaching the door he turned around jogging in place. " Oh hey what were your names again?"
"Ben Poole." I state.
"Alexis Rhodes and yours?" Alexis responded
" The names Jaden." Jaden called back as he was exiting. " Alright see you around."
Alexis and I started heading back to the Obelisk dining hall.
" I saw your entrance exam." Alexis said as we were walking. " You seem pretty good."
" I'd like to think so." I respond, " Unfortunately I can't say I saw your practical exam."
" Those of us who went to Dueling Prep School didn't have to take the practical exam." Alexis informed me. " You seem to be the only Freshman Obelisk that didn't attend Dueling Prep School."
" Yup not sure how exactly that happened." I said deciding not to share Riley's theory. " I'm also keenly aware how the majority of Obelisk seems to view that little fact."
" Yes, I'm sorry about that." Alexis apologized. " I did my best to curtail that title everyone is using to refer to you."
" Oh yes, the False Obelisk." I started ignoring Riley's spike of joy at the stupid nickname. " I'll admit it's not as nice as The Queen of Obelisk. Though I suppose a part of me is flattered that I'm apparently worthy of a title though."
That got a reaction from Alexis as she glanced at me with a confused look on her face.
"Well see you around." I say as we reach the dining hall.
" You're skipping the welcome dinner?" Alexis asked.
" That was the plan." I reply.
All of the sudden she grabs my arm and starts dragging me towards the door to the dining hall.
" Dr. Crowler told me to make sure all students made it to the welcome dinner." She said sternly, " You and Chazz's group were the last ones who weren't already there. So whether you like it or not you're going."
" Fine, Fine. I don't suppose you'd be willing to duel for this?" I say, " I win you let me go, I lose I attend."
" Not a chance, besides we're already there." Alexis replies with a small smile.
I look up and realize we're at the dining hall. Well shoot I guess exploring the island can wait until after dinner. On second thought Chazz is definitely going to challenge Jaden so maybe once I figure out the security patrol routes I'll go watch that.
Alexis lets go of my arm as she opens the door and gently shoves me inside.

So yeah not a whole lot happens here it's kinda just an orientation day. We finally get to see actual Gx characters. On a separate note I've got a couple of questions for you readers. Gonna be honest they mostly are sevens related. I'm struggling to come up with a deck for Jasmine and some other characters and I thought hey what about more Sevens stuff or maybe even some Go Rush stuff.
How would you guys feel about potentially seeing Maximum Summons in this? I'd have to modify them but in theory they could function similarly to the anime versions of the Mech Lords. Also how would you guys feel about other types that may not have existed during Gx such as Psychic?

To Rodvek97- Your welcome. Yeah I like Goha Yuo we'll probably see more rush duel cards as the story goes on.
To Guest- Yes, Nightmare Magician is Ben's ace and Riley's will be his Legendary planet card. I'm generally not big on the idea of creating cards because I feel like it's hard to balance them but if I come up with an idea I really like or if someone comments an idea I think sounds cool, it's entirely possible that fusion evolutions of their respective aces get created and used.
