December, 1969
Alvin turned off the radio and went to the kitchen for breakfast to meet Dave.
"Morning, Alvin," Dave greeted. "Hey, are you alright?"
Alvin sighed. "Something terrible happened at the Stones concert in Altamont last night."
"Oh," Dave said, frowning sadly. "That. Yeah, I've heard about that, too. That motorcycle gang, Hell's Angels,
went too far, if you ask me."
Alvin took out some yogurt and a clean spoon. "This is just as sad as The Beatles breaking up. But this had no
good reason."
"Which one? The Beatles or Altamont?" asked Dave.
"Altamont, of course." replied Alvin. "Why the heck did those people kill an innocent man?"
"Alvin, sometimes the world is full of tragedies," said Dave, drinking his coffee. "I remember a decade ago,
Ritchie Vallens, Buddy Holly and Big Bopper got killed in a helicopter accident during a blizzard and that
still affects musicians like me."
"Oh, yeah..." said Alvin, remembering that incident. "I was only a toddler when that happened."
"Morning," greeted Theodore, entering the kitchen. "It's Sunday, Alvin. You know what we do tonight."
"I know," sighed Alvin. "Movie night."
"Hey, what's wrong? Don't you wanna go to the movies?"
"Ted," said Dave. "A terrible thing happened at the Stones concert last night."
"The Altamont Free Concert?" asked Theodore.
"The motorcycle gang killed a guy for no reason," said Alvin.
Theodore gasped. "The nerve!"
"Nerve of what?" asked Simon, entering the kitchen, yawning.
"A guy got killed at the Stones concert last night," said Dave. "By a motorist gang."
"Oh, that," said Simon. "Yeah, it's all over the news. Very sad. The world can be unfair most times."
"You're telling me, Simon," said Alvin.
"Well, if it's any consolation," said Dave. "The Stones survived."
"And I'm proud of that," said Alvin. "What concerns me the most is an innocent guy getting killed by
heartless cycle people."
"Alvin? You wanna go for a walk, you and me?" asked Dave.
"Uh, sure, Dave," said Alvin, putting on his blue denim jacket.
"You gonna be alright, Alvin?" asked Simon.
"I think so," said Alvin.
