After an evening with the babysitters, the children enjoyed themselves. The next morning all three kids were still sleeping in their beds. Bluey was the first to wake up; she saw both her sister and cousin still fast asleep for the rest of the morning. She went to the kitchen and saw both of her parents making breakfast.
"Morning, squirt. Did you have a fun night with Uncle Rad and Frisky," asked Bandit while sizzling bacon. "Yeah, we had so much fun," added Bluey. "Are your sister and cousin still asleep," questioned Chilli while setting the table with plates. "Yeah, I didn't want to wake them up." Bluey explained to her parents about the exciting night they had with their babysitters such as twenty questions, torch mouse, and the bedtime story. For the first time, Bluey has made it through a putdown evening, and she was glad no television was left on with a scary program.
Lyon slowly opened his eyes and rubbed them. Noticing that Bluey was out of bed, he assumed she went to the kitchen. He saw his aunt, uncle, and cousin making breakfast. "Morning, Lyon. Did you slept well," asked Chilli. "Yes, Aunt Chilli. I enjoyed my first sleepover."
"That's great to hear, mate," said Bandit as he was preparing the bacon on the plate along with scrambled egg. "Me and dad had so much fun last night, along with Frisky as well," said the wolfdog pup not forgetting Frisky from last evening. She seem to have left a good impression on Lyon when they first met, but was even more of a good impression on Rad unbeknownst to Lyon. "Shall I go fetch Bingo," asked Lyon. "I think that would be a good idea. Breakfast is all set," added Chilli while pouring orange juice to each cup. Lyon rushed back to the girls' bedroom to wake his younger cousin. "Hey, Bingo. Breaky is ready," claimed Lyon while tapping the red heeler. Bingo instantly woke up and sprang from her bed. "Hooray," she shouted. The Heelers and Lyon were all sitting at the table with their breakfast. They were eating and chatting at the same time, talking about last evening. "Did you and mum had a nice, romantic dinner," asked Bluey slyly. "Well, yes we did," said Bandit.
"As romantic as the last one," asked Bingo. "Uh, well yes. It was far more romantic than the last time," added Bandit, recalling an uncomfortable memory of the special his daughters made for him, and Chilli He recalled the time where Chilli felt forced to eat the special for real life to avoid hurting Bingo's family, and bravely attempted to eat the whole thing. The foul, mushy mix of jello, spaghetti, pickles, and strawberries all mashed up together still gave Bandit the worst evening of his life. However, it was for the sake of his daughters' content. He coughed and continued to eat the rest of his breakfast.
"What was the special," asked Lyon curiously. "You know what? How about we talk about torch mouse you played with Rad and Frisky," said Chilli trying to change the subject from the fancy restaurant incident. "Oh, alright. Well, Miss Frisky took dad's keys with the mini torch, and she told us we had to light the floor as if it was a mouse. The two acted like they were cats trying to catch the mouse in the dark," explained Lyon. "Oh, that sounds like fun," said Chilli.
"It was." Lyon took four bites of his egg and drank some juice from the cup. After breakfast, the kids helped the parents clean up the dishes. The rest of the family went to the playroom. "So, what game we should play," asked Bingo.
"I would say torch mouse, but it's not nighttime," said Lyon. Bluey thought for a moment and saw the costume basket with the girls' costumes. "Oh, let's play kings and queens," she added while digging for a crown. She reached out for two crowns and capes. "Good idea." insisted Lyon. "Question is, who gets to be the king and queen," asked Chilli. "How about you two," asked Lyon. "Really? You don't mind waiting for your turn? We usually let the girls have that role," asked Bandit. "You two would make an excellent king and queen. Meanwhile, Bluey and Bingo can be your royal daughters, and I can be the knight."
"Sounds good," agreed Bandit. Both adults wore royal crowns with capes. The two girls wore tiny tiaras and Lyon wore a spaghetti drainer as his helm. The kids brought out two chairs and made them look like thrones by adding blankets and pillows for the king and queen to sit on. "Okay, what happens next," asked Bingo. "As the princesses, you two decide to ask your parents if you are allowed to go outside and pick some flowers. Then the knight comes and escorts you outside," said Lyon as he was trying to explain the game.
"Okay, but why do we want to pick flowers for," ask Bluey all confused. "You want to make a special bouquet for your mum and dad because it is their anniversary."
"Can we have names in the game," asked Bingo. "Yes, since using our real names would be not so creative."
"Then I can be Gwendolyn," added Bingo. "I can be Laverne," said Bluey. "Mum is Queen Jane, and dad is King Bertrum."
"Bertrum," asked Bandit while raising his brow. Chilli giggled a little by the name he was given. "Oh, but then who is Lyon playing as," asked Chilli. "I will be Sir Percival. Not bad for a knight's name," added Lyon. "Oh, good one," said Bandit. The two parents sat at their thrones while their daughters walked up to them. "Mother, father, we decided to go out and play in the flower field," asked Bingo. "Oh, but whatever for," asked Chilli with a posh accent. "We want to frolic in the flowers because they're beautiful this time of year," asked Bluey. "Hmm. That is rather suspicious, but I suppose we can allow it," added Bandit with a mighty king's accent. "Knight," he called out to his nephew. Lyon came with a broom as his lance. "Yes, your majesty," asked the wolf knight. "My daughters have decided to go out and play in the flower field. I would like for you to be their escort for the rest of the day."
"As you wish, sire," said Lyon obediently. "Oh but do be careful. I hear there is a mean ogre who has been scaring fellow villagers as of late," warned Chilli. "Understood your excellencies. Let us make haste, ladies." Lyon walked side by side with Bluey and Bingo as they were walking with poise to the backyard. "Sir Percival, we're not actually going to play. We're collecting some flowers for our parents. It is their anniversary so we shall make them the finest flower wreath to show our love to them," said Bluey. "Your highness, did you fibbed to my liege and lady just to collect flowers? Have you not heard of what your mother said about the mean ogre?"
"Exactly why you are with us," said Bingo. "If that meanie ogre ever shows up, you must keep us safe."
"Very well, but please don't leave my sight," said Lyon. The girls went to the poinciana tree to collect some petals that had fallen from the tree. "Oh, these are very lovely flowers. We must make the wreath out of them," said Bluey. "They are very lovely indeed," said Lyon, admiring the red flowers from the tree. "Shall I collect some?"
"No, you have to stand and act as sentry, remember," said Bluey. "Oh. But I can do both," added Lyon. "Father says it's a knight's duty to keep his princesses safe." Lyon sighed, and knew he was going to have to stand for the rest of the game. "Alright." Both girls weaved each flower around in a circle. They were enjoying themselves. Lyon stood next to the tree on watch duty to ensure no ogre was passing by. However, he was tempted to find good flowers for his aunt and uncle's wreath. He noticed the girls were having a blissful time while he just stood there. I'm sure leaving my post for a while won't be so bad, he thought. He decided to pick some dandelions to compliment the poinciana's red flowers. As he picked some yellow dandelions for his cousins, he spotted a peculiar leaf next to one of the flowers.
It appears to be a sort of leaf, but for some reason this leaf has tiny legs. "Oh, what do we have here?" The wolf dog observed the leaf bug; he was impressed that a leaf can also be a bug. The creature slowly climbed down from the dandelion, and stretched out its legs.
Meanwhile, the girls were still working on the wreath for queen mum and king dad. "I wonder how's our knight doing, Gwendolyn," asked Bluey. "Maybe he's working hard searching for the mean ogre, Laverne," said Bingo while fiddling with the flowers. Bingo turned around and saw Lyon was missing. "Sister, Sir Percival is missing," she said with a heightened voice. "What?! You don't think the ogre kidnapped him," said Bluey dramatically. "I hope not. Let's go look for him." The girls then noticed Lyon who was loitering around at some dandelions. Bluey had an annoyed expression and walked straight to her cousin.
"Percival, what are you doing," asked Bluey. Lyon shushed the blue heeler. "Excuse me? How dare you shush your princess? How rude," said Bluey acting all posh. "No, look here," said Lyon with a quiet voice. Bluey was bewildered for one moment as well as her sister. Both girls looked down and saw a walking leaf bug. "Ah, the walking leaf," said Bingo. "Yeah, I think it's called a planthopper," said Lyon to his younger cousin.
"Wait, knight. You were supposed to watch out for the ogre," said Bluey changing the subject back to the game. "I know, but I thought I would be helpful by bringing some different flowers. You know, to make the wreath prettier."
"It doesn't matter. Knights have to do their duty," insisted Bluey. "Oh, alright," sighed Lyon. The three returned back to the tree with the girls continuing their wreath. Lyon stood their all bored. He didn't think the so called ogre was going to come in their game, and he just huffed out a sigh. "M'lady, do you want the dandelions I picked out earlier," asked Lyon to Bluey. "No thanks, we're fine with the ones from the tree," said Bluey.
"Oh, come on Bluey. I really do want to help," pleaded Lyon. "Laverne," reminded Bluey about their pseudo names. "Right, Laverne," said Lyon with a deadpan face. "You need to keep an eye out for the ogre." Bingo noticed how bored her cousin is right now just standing. She can tell he really wanted to help with the wreath. "Laverne, maybe we should ask for Percival's help," advised Bingo, while twiddling with the flowers. "Those dandelions look lovely."
"Nah, red flowers look far more lovely," denied Bluey.
"That's not fair, Bluey. If I can't help, then I don't want to be sentry anymore," demanded Lyon bitterly. He ran back to the house all upset, passing through the parents who are sitting by the throne. Bandit and Chilli were concerned about what occurred outside. "That can't be good," said Bandit. Chilli looked at the backyard from the playroom; she noticed her daughters who were making the wreath. "I'll be right back," she added. She went outside to check up on the girls.
"Hey girls, Lyon looked upset. Did something happen," asked Chilli trying to get to the bottom of this.
"Ah, mum. You're not supposed to see this," exclaimed Bluey trying to hide the wreath.
"I can see now, but may I ask why your cousin decided not to play anymore?"
"Bluey didn't want to let Lyon help with the wreath. He brought some dandelions to add to our wreath, but Bluey said he's supposed to act as our guard only," said Bingo.
"Bluey, your cousin just wanted to help with your wreath. I understand you want to make it perfect, but he wants to help as well. Don't you think that hurt his feelings when you made him feel left out," explained to her eldest daughter.
"Well, knights don't make wreaths. They're supposed to keep watch and keep royals safe from danger," added Bluey, counter arguing her mother's statement.
"Yes, that's true, but they don't always act as sentry all the time. They can help with just about anything," suggested Chilli.
"Really?"
"Yes. Don't you think it's worth thinking about?" Bluey pondered for a moment and had to reconsider her actions for excluding Lyon from their project.
Inside the house, Lyon sat down at the living room's couch with both arms crossed. Bandit came to check up on his nephew. "Hey, mate. You holding up fine," he asked.
"Yes, I'm fine," muttered Lyon without making eye contact. "You want to talk about what's going on?"
"Well, I dunno. I'm just so mad right now," said Lyon.
"Sometimes talking about it helps you forget your grumpiness," added Bandit.
"Well, I guess it won't hurt to talk about it," said the wolf dog rubbing his arm. "Bluey won't let me help with the wreath they're making for you two. I brought dandelions, but she told me to stand and watch out for any danger. I know it's just a game, but I was trying to help," explained Lyon.
"Ah, I see," said Bandit. He recalled times back in his youth when he has excluded his younger brother Stripe from helping out with projects, and games. "Well, have you tried telling your cousin how you feel about her not letting you in the wreath project," inquired the adult blue heeler.
"Well, no. I was so angry. I just ran off from my cousins. I guess I didn't used my words properly," said Lyon.
"Do you think you want to go back and talk about what you're feeling to Bluey?" Lyon thought for a moment, and he decided to be merciful to Bluey's callous behavior. "I suppose so," said the wolf dog. Bandit let out a smile and patted Lyon's shoulder. The two went to the backyard with Chilli waiting for Lyon to come out with Bluey. Bluey held her arm to her right shoulder with a shamed look. "Hey, Lyon," said Bluey.
"Hi," said Lyon quietly. "Look, I'm sorry I ran off. I was so mad that you didn't want me to help make the wreath. I know I'm suppose to play my role in the game, but I can help with the wreath too. I forgot to use my words to tell you how I felt"
"I know. I think I was unfair about excluding you from our project. Will you accept my apology," said Bluey holding out her hand for a handshake.
"Yeah, we're good," said Lyon calmly, Both cousins shake their hands for truce. "Well, that worked out nicely," said Chilli. "But your surprise isn't a surprise anymore," said Bluey sadly. "What do we do?" Lyon thought carefully; "You know what? Why don't we all work together to make it," suggested the wolf dog pup.
"That's a great idea. We can find more wildflowers, and help put it altogether," said Bandit. "I can get my dandelions. Aunt Chilli, and you can maybe pick some from your garden," asked Lyon.
"I don't see why not," said Chilli. Both parents went to their flower bed to pick a few flowers: lilies, tulips, and poppies. The rest of the family strung each flower next to the poinciana flowers. In little to no time, they were done; the wreath contained a vibrant looking wall wreath with a variety of flowers. "Oh, wow, it looks so beautiful," said Bingo with awe.
"I agree. It's your best work yet kids," said Bandit.
"I can't wait to hang it on the wall," said Bluey excitedly. The rest of the family seemed to forget their game of royals and went inside to hang the wreath on the wall. Lyon himself was proud for contributing to a lovely wreath. He feels more relaxed when it comes to making something with his cousins. After that, the kids decided to do some coloring in the playroom with both parents winding down at the sunroom.
During the late afternoon, Lyon was back at his house again. Both Lyon and Rad were having steak and steamed corn for dinner. "Did you have fun with your cousins today," asked Rad while cutting his steak in half. "Yeah, it was a great day. We made a wreath for aunt and uncle today. You should have seen it. We hung it inside the hallway."
"I will see it the next time we visit. I bet it was a fun project," praised Rad. He then heard a vibration from his phone. He checked and saw a message from Frisky.
Frisky: Hey, how are you?
Rad: Very well, thanks. We were just eating dinner.
Frisky: Ah. I assume Lyon enjoyed himself last night.
Rad: Yeah, I even let him stay for the whole day with his cousins.
Frisky: That's great. By the way, I wanted to ask if you two are free to hang out?
Rad: Well, we can meet on the twenty first of this month if you're available? What do you think?
Frisky: I'm free that day. We can hang out downtown if you like?
Rad: That sounds fine. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Frisky: : )
Rad chuckled a bit as he endlessly tapped on his phone. "What's so funny," said Lyon noticing the smiling red, blue heeler. "Oh, uh, nothing. Let's finish dinner," said Rad. Lyon raised his brow, and shrugged it off, forgetting what he saw at the table. Both father and son talked for the next hour at the dinner table as the night went on.
Author's note: Hello, it has been a while since I last uploaded a chapter. Just wanted to let my audience know that I had an extremely busy time right now. I was busy juggling assignments in school as well as ongoing events going on in my family so it kind of diverted me away from making more chapters. My apologizes for the silence. I'm just glad uploading a new chapter is a way to let ya'll now I'm still kicking. I was able to find time to write again now that I took care of two projects for two different classes, and a bit of respite as well before studying for my finals. I appreciate your patience and look forward to writing more chapters.
I'm hoping that the future Bluey special will involve Rad and Frisky's potential wedding. Looking forward to adding that content to my story.
