Sakaki woke up to hear her parents yelling, her ear buds had fallen out. She glanced over at her clock. 5:47 am. Her body rolled over, holding her plush cat closer to her, eyes shifting focus from the clock to staring aimlessly at her bedside table. "They never argue this early" she thought. She put on of the buds back in, and closed her eyes, trying to fall back asleep. She just heard more yelling, this time muffled by her audio. She hugged the plush closer as she started to tear.
"Friday...I have to go through the weekend with them...I don't want to. I can't..."
Sakaki became entangled in her thoughts. The arguing between her parents started towards the end of last summer. It was first over pretty matters, then over bigger things. She heard a beeping noise. It was her clock. 6:30 am. She had become so distracted she had wasted away most of an hour. School wouldn't start for a while, so she just layed there, eyes closed, wishing for it to stop.
"Hello Miss Sakaki!" Chiyo's bright voice perked up. "Oh, hi Chiyo-Chan" Sakaki said in a monotone voice, her eyes barely moving to notice her. "I was wondering Miss Sakaki, would you like to spend the weekend with me and Osaka?" Chiyo asked the towering dark haired girl. This caught her attention and pulled her out from her thoughts. "Oh, um, what -what did you two have planned?" She quietly asked. "Well, it's my birthday on Saturday, so I wanted to spend it with you two!" Chiyo pipped up. "After all, you two are my closest friends."
"What about Tomo, a-and Yomi? And Kagura?"
"Miss Yomi and Tomo always argue, and I don't like it when they do. And Miss Kaugura is busy this weekend."
Sakaki sprouted a small smile.
"I'm free...no more arguing...for now."
She reverted to frowning shortly after.
"Just don't let the others know please, I don't want them to feel upset." Chiyo pleaded.
"Oh, yes, I won't tell them." Sakaki told her small companion, snapping her back to reality.
Sakaki and Chiyo entered their classroom, finding Kagurua and Osaka there.
"Hiyah Chiyo-Chan" the Osakan greeted, "I'm excited for the weekend."
"I'm sorry I can't make it, Chiyo." Kagura told her.
"That's really quite ok, Miss Kaugura! We can hang out together another time." Chiyo explained.
"Well, I thought I'd buy you this anyway, since it is your birthday. You deserve something from your friend." Kaugura winked, pulling out a Pikachu plush.
"Oh thank you Miss Kaugura!" Chiyo said bowing, Sakaki staring at it in all its cuteness.
"Miss Sakaki, would you like to hold him?"
"Y-yes please."
Sakaki held the Pikachu with her hands, feeling it's plush skin. It was no bigger than five or six inches, yet she became lost in thought over how cute it was. "Miss Sakaki? Can ah hold it please?" Osaka asked. Sakaki was still in her daze.
"Ummm, maybe give her a minute Osaka." Chiyo asked.
Sakaki snapped back fairly quick after realising what she was doing.
"Oh, um, h-here you go Osaka. I'm sorry."
"That's ok, Miss Sakaki. Wow Kagura, this here is real soft. Ah bet you could use it as a pillow or something" Osaka bought it to her desk and prepared to lay her head down on it, only to slam into the table.
"Owwwww" she groaned, holding the left side of her face, Chiyo trying to help her.
"PAHAHAHA" Tomo exclaimed, holding Pikachu by the ear. Sakaki and Chiyo began to get mad, Chiyo more visibly.
"Tomo, you made Osaka get h-"
"Ah ah ahh Chiyo-Chan, it's caused, not made. For someone as smart as you I would've thought you'd know that." Tomo told her, angering her even more.
"Plus that's my gift from Kagura, so please give it back" Chiyo asked, trying to help Osaka's pain. Yomi came up behind Tomo and slapped her behind her head, causing her to drop the plush. Sakaki snatched it away from her and gave it back to Chiyo, who in turn gave it back to Kagura to hold on to until school ended.
"Tomo, you're such a jerk." Yomi told her.
"But I'm your jerk." Tomo said, looking deeply into Yomi's eyes, who responded to this by hitting her again. Sakaki began to shake, which caught the eye of Chiyo and Kagura. Before they could say anything to her, the door slammed open, revealing a sleep deprived Yukari. "OK KIDS" the teacher yelled out "YOU'RE GONNA BE QUIET AND YOU'RE GONNA BE QUIET NOW!" This silenced the entire class, even Tomo. Sakaki, however, felt like tearing up. This was only noticed by Kagura, however.
When lunch came, Sakaki strayed away from the others. She went up to the roof with no food. She didn't want to be in the kitchen when her parents were arguing, or anywhere near them at all when they were. When she reached the top, she just sat down on the bench, thinking everything over.
"I can get away from them at Chiyo's house for now...but then what...I can't hide there forever..."
She was so deep in thought she was oblivious to Chiyo and Kagura peering at her through a crack in the door.
"You saw her crying Miss Kagura?" Chiyo lightly whispered.
"No, she almost did. I don't know what caused it. It was after Yukari yelled at all of us."
"I think Miss Sakaki doesn't like being yelled at. I know it upsets me when I get yelled at."
"But she's older than you, plus Yukari didn't yell at her specifically. Maybe it was Tomo being mean to Osaka?"
Chiyo pondered this for a minute.
"Tomo definitely could be the issue."
They pushed the door open but to no response from Sakaki. They walked over to her, only grabbing her attention when they both sat down.
"Miss Sakaki, are you ok?"
"Oh, um, yes Chiyo-Chan. I have no lunch is all."
Sakaki hastily had to compose her thoughts.
"Here," Kagura pulled out a box "you can have mine!"
Sakaki took it and stared at it for a second, before thanking her.
"Miss Sakaki, are you doing ok?"
"Oh, um, yes Chiyo."
"That's good. We'll see you back in class!" Chiyo said in a peppy tone as the two of them exited, leaving the door open at a crack to look at Sakaki.
"Hmm, she's eating fairly fast, for how she eats her food anyway."
"Yes, Miss Sakaki normally chews on it for a while. Plus, this is the second time this week she didn't bring lunch. It's very unusual."
"I hope she'll be ok. We should probably leave, plus lunch is going to be over soon."
"Oh, yes, you're right. I haven't eaten anything yet. Do you want to share my lunch Miss Kagura?"
"Hell yeah!" Kagura fist pumped, almost knocking Chiyo over.
"Sorry!"
