chapter 6 " Ghouls ,humans and volley ball, oh my."
after everyone had made there way down to the volley ball court. they could see things were already set up for the event,
the entire court was neatly made up. the grass around it around it was cut evenly, the net was neatly made from it's silky spider web. and the paint setting the boundaries was freshly done,
" alrighty then. just wait here in the sideline. the other team will be arriving soon, " Miss Grimwood said, " once they do, we can so begin the match." she informed them.
" oh boy, this is really exciting, i can't wait to get started, how about you guys, " Phantasma said feeling a little jittery,
however Tanis rubbed her arm and looked a little unsure about any of this,
" gee, I'm not sure I'm weady for this, " she said sounding a little afraid,
" hey don't worry tanis, you'll do fine, you shown us all that you have the right materiel for this, Sibella said placing a hand on her shoulder..
" you willy thinks so " Tanis said looking up at her with a bit of confidence,
" of course, you do not need to worry. and besides. you just need to focus on having fun. " Sibella added with a nod,
" alright, I'll twy and do my best then. and have fun while doing its. " Tanis said begging to suck her thumb again, while still looking a little nervous.
" heh. well i say we'll show those humans a thing or two about sports, after all they probably never seen a werewolf spike a ball, " Winnie said jumping into the air and pretending to spike a volleyball,
" well, i'm glad you seem to be in such high spirits about it, " Elsa noticed,
" yeah, and spirit is just what we need, and Winnie's got lot's of it. " Phantasma said appearing behind her and shaking her,
" well lets just say she's got a good reason to have such high hopes to win, " Sibella said with a teasing tone, one that of course slipped right over the others. but Winnie knows what she was talking about and tried to play it cool.
" yeah, spirit, and you'll be glad to know it's what's going to get us the trophy. " Winnie said pointing a claw at her, " so just you wait pointy fangs. were all going to be winners today. whether you like it or not. "
" Um, is there something I'm missing here, " Elsa said clearly not getting the little bet between them,
" Nothing ! nothing is going on here ! " winnie quickly responded before sibella could answer, " so don't go thinking there is more to me wanting to win this then bringing home a trophy, there is no other reasons then that, got it, " winnie said poking a claw onto Elsa's chest...
" uuhh, okay then ? " she said tilting her head a little,
" great then, lets do this thing then " Winnie said walking away from her, though elsa just looked at the others and shrugged..
" gee Winnie, you seem to be a wittle worked up, if I didn't no betta , " Tanis said to the werewolf as passed by her,
" and you don't, there is nothing going on here, we are going to win this and that's all there is to it, " she resounded,
the others could all tell something was up with Winnie for sure, but of course sibella knew what it was, sure she could tell the others about the little bet they made, be she had to admit..she loves seeing her get so worked up like this. so she figured she just let her do her best to win the game with there little deal on her mind, it should really drive her to do her best anyway,
" alright then. miss Grimwood said as she made sure everything was accounted for, and well ready for today's big game,
" everything seems to be in order. now what do we need? " she said tapping her chin, " oh yes, a ref, " she then looked over at Leona and smiled. " why Leona dear, would you mind doing something for us, "
Leona made her way over to miss Grimwood, " what is it miss Grimwood ? " she asked,
" it appears we don't have a ref, i'd do it myself, but i would be coaching my ghouls as well, to make it a little easier would you mind reffing our game, ? "
" me ref, I never done such a thing before though? " Leona stated, not sure is miss Grimwood would really want her to,
" oh it's not hard at all, just keep score, and call out any foul play,. "
" well, Leona said thinking about it,
" I mean if not, we could try matches, " she said motioning over to the small green dragon, who was busy trying to swat his tail at a fly, he miss however and swung his own tail into his head, he just looked a little dazed by that.
" alright, I'll do it, "she said awkwardly nodding knowing that dragon would not be a better alternative,
" great then, I think were just about ready now, and in good time, here comes the other team now, " miss grimwood said pointing over to a small gruop of people making there way over to the court,
everyone just stared interestingly at the new arrivals,, there was about six of them. six humans, at least five of them children, the all led by tall man who was wearing a blue military uniform of some sort, and walked in a very...upright manner with his hands neatly behind his back, all the kids were all fallowing him in a single filed line, from tallest to shortest, they also were all also wearing yellow T shirts with blue short sweatpants, all identical ,.if this wasn't Sibella's first time ever seeing humans, she's probably say they have strange taste in fashion, but this was her first time as well as the others, so they were more so just fascinated. having never really gotten to see humans like this before,
suddenly the tall older man stopped walking and ordered the children behind him to do the same..
" at ease now cadets, we have arrived at the destination randevu with the so called Grimwood opponents," the man spoke in strange words of tongue, at least to the ghouls anyway,
the man the approached miss Grimwood while still in his rather proper posture,. " greeting miss Grimwood, nice to be meeting you again, as you can tell we are ready to start are Volley ball tournament with your, uh Grimwood girls was it ? " the man spoke in a slight British accent
" ah Colonel Calloway, splendid for you now to arrive, be fore we start I'd like you to meet my ghouls. ? " miss Grimwood said motioning over to the ghouls,
the colonel glanced over at then but then had to double take once he saw there appearances,, " oh my, I'll never understand the youth and there fashion choices." he muttered to himself, he then cleared his throat, " * ahem * well anyway, greetings ladies, I am colonel Calloway, and these are cadets, " he then turned around and ordered for the boy to state there names..
the first one to do so was Tug, who was a blond haired boy, after him was grunt, a more larger kid who spoke in a rather gruff voice, next was Jamel. who was the tallest of the bunch it appeared, then after him was Miguel and Baxter, Baxter who was the smallest of the bunch, in fact he was not much taller the Tanis,
" these young men are finest example of military training, just note there athletic skills when you see then on the volley ball court, and not to mention, they are properly dressed for such an event, " he stated,
" well, no need and worry about that kernel, I'm sure you trained them just fine, " miss Grimwood stated.
" * ahem* it's colonel " he said rubbing his knuckle onto his chest.." so shall talk about what we'll be competing for ? "
as miss Grimwood and the colonel continued to talk, th calloway cadets couldn't help but observe there strange opponents,
" gee tug, when the colonel said we'd be going up against some girls, I didn't think they'd , well what ever they think they are, " Grunt said nudging tug on his side,
" I know what you mean, they look like they belong on the twilight Zone, "
" Hey girls didn't anyone ever tell you Halloween ended a while ago ! " grunt shouted,
the ghouls just looked at one another in confusion
" what are they saying about us? " Tanis asked the others.
" I don't know, they act like they never met a girl ghoul before, "sibella said itching her head,
" they probably haven't I bet, " Winnie said crossing arms already having a bleak outlook on them.
" hey check out their weird dog. " Jamel said, pointing over at matches, " I wonder what kind of breed it is . "
" like no dog I ever seen, " Baxter said looking confusingly at the green creature
" yeah, it looks sorta like a mutated Chihuahua ? " Jamel said examining him some more,
Matches just stared up at him and growled, not taking pleasantly to there words towards him,
" hey careful James, it looks like your making it mad. " Grunt teased,
Jamel then looked back down at matches who was stading up on his hind legs letting a puff of smoke emit from his nostrils.
" whoa, okay now I know that is not normal, " he said backing up
" Talk about a hot dog, " Miguel jokes but all the while still looking shocked..
" hey, leave matches alone, " sibella said crossing her arms and glaring at them,
" hey we don't mean no harm, its just, you might want to get him looked at.. " Tug suggested,
" Yeah were not vets, but I'm pretty sure pets aren't supposed t be smoking, " Miguel added,
Sibella tilted her head a little, " why ? he's Perfectly fine, healthy as a horse, well, as a dragon in his case, " sibella responded to him, not sure how to react to these humans strange behavior,
" Riiight " tug said looking wireded out, and backing away...
he then walked up to the others, " okay, it's official we are playing against a bunch of whack jobs," he stated while nodding,
" the colonel really owes us for this one, " Miguel agreed.
" well so what if they are dressed up strangely, I'm sure it's not like they are crazy or anything ? " Baxter said,
" sure maybe, but really, did you not just see there dog, " tug said with his arms crossed,
" uuhh..maybe it's a special affect ? " he tried to find and answer.
" Well whatever is going on with these girls, I was at first I was planning to go easy on them for being well... girls, but now I don't think I'd feel as bad if didn't, cause the sooner we get out of here with the prize, the better, " Tug informed, " so when we get on the court, we will give it all our best,"
great, so then we'll be back at school by dinner time then eh ? grunt said rubbing his belly, as he as seen eating a chocolate bar in his other hand,
" yes...dinner, " Tug said shaking his head in slight annoyance," how'd you even sneak that over here, you now how the colonel feels about junk food, " tug informed him
grunt just sheepishly shrugged and tossed the rest of the chocolate into his mouth,,,"
" well anyway, as soon as we start, I want you to serve the ball grunt, surprise them with your volley ball bomb move. and if they managed to counter that, we'll hit them with our backwards double trouble maneuver, " tug said with a sly smirk across his face, ,"
" alright attention everyone, the volley ball tournament will be begin soon," miss Grimwood spoke, " team Grimwood against team Calloway. the winner of this even shall take home this lovely silver trophy. " miss grimwood said motion over to a large shiny trophy sitting on a stone pedestal with a number #1 in-scripted onto it, ,"
everyone basked in it's shiny ness, the sun making it glimmer in front of all of them,
" wow, now isn't that a shiny reward. " Elsa said
" it would look lovely to have that in my room, " sibella said basking in it's glory,
Matches was among those who was admiring the shiny glimmerness of the trophy,, he stood there standing straight up with his tongue sticking out..his greedy little eyes already plotting up a way to get his paws on it,...
" so then, before we start, who will be going first " miss grimwood stated,
well there is only one fair way to settle this, " colonel calloway said looking serous, he then cleared his throat,
" A good sporting game of rock paper scissors, " she spoke sternly,
the ghouls just exchange more confused glances,
" eh what exactly is that supposed to be ? " Winnie said itching her head,
" really how could you not know what that is, ? " Tug said looking surprised, it's a game of course, to you pick one of those three things, and one of them always beats the other, like paper covers rock or rock crushes scissors. " he explained to them,
" Well that's a strange game to play , " phantasma said laughing,
" Yeah, when ever my family can't decide who goes first on something, with a little scuffle between another, " Winnie said baring her claws with a toothy grin
this However only prompted the cadets to give them even stranger looks, and awkward glances at another.
" Uuh, I think we'll just do it the colonels way, " tug said,
" alright then, will one of my men please step up then, " the colonel commanded.
" alright let's just get this over with, " tug said marching up,
miss Grimwood then turned to her ghouls, " would one of you please do so as well, "
they all looked at one another, seemingly expecting one yo answer that call, however none of them did right away, none of the ghouls knew how to react having to stand up close to a human. so the idea just took a little getting used to,
" well, who's going to do it then, ? " winnie asked,
" oh, ya know what, I can try it, I'd love to give this paper, rock scissors a try. " Phanatasma then offered.
" well what are you waiting for, get to it! " Winnie barked,
Phantasma giggled " almighty then. "she said as she then quickly floated over to tug, stopping just in front of his face, " so then, so how do we do this again , " phantasma said with another giggle...
" w-wh-what..how-how are you doing that, " tug said pointing down at her legs. which were slightly bent back a little, making her kneed be a couple feet off the ground,."
" what are you talking about ? " Phantasma said looking a little confused..
" your feet, your not standing on the ground at all ! " tug exclaimed still in utter shock, not have noticing before that she mostly floats where ever she goes.
the other cadets now took notice of this and looked just as alarmed as he did.
" holey smokes, he's right, she's floating , just like a balloon, ! " Jamel blurted,
" have you boys never seen a ghost before or what? " Winnie said looking amused by there reactions,
Tug suddenly felt a cold shiver run up his spine as he slowly glanced back at Phantasma who was just smiling cheerfully at him, " G-ghost ? " he said while gulping,
" well yeah, what'd you think I was. " she said giggling,
Tug didn't answer as he couldn't unfocuse from looking at her, he notice she also was a little transparent if one were to really stare.. " uh...uh..." he struggles to say something,
" hey are you okay, your looking a little white, ? " phantasma cocked her head,
" please what's the hold up here, can't we get this thing started, " Colonel Calloway said who apparently wasn't paying much attention to what was happening as was bust looking at his watch,
" I-uh-sir..permission to sit down. " Tug requested,
" permission denied, we have no time to stall, now get to it, " the Colonel said tapping his foot, apparently not noticing that phantasma was floating a couple feet of the ground in front of him,
" r-right sir, " Tug said in a shaky voice, he then looked over at phantasma and nervously chuckled.." alright lets do this then, " he extended his hand out ready to play.
" just...p-pick one of the-the three choices of rock p-paper. scissors. " he said s sweat began to form on him, " and u-use our hand to show y-your choice." he said said showing her the hand signs of each choice.
" hmm, ya know i think I vaguely remember playing something like before " " phantasma said, with a chuckle. " so, let's give it a go then, "
" o-okay then, " tug said tugging at the collar if his shirt. " they both began,
" Rock, "
" paper "
"scissors "
They both said as the revealed their choices...
everyone stared on to see who was going to serve first,, tug who had his eyes closed open them to see that phantasma was holding a rock...he then looked down at his own hand to see he was holding rather shaky and sweaty paper..
"oooh, looks like your getting to serve first , " phantasma laughed before floating back to the others,
" uuh, great. " Tug said joining the rest of the cadets, who were still as shocked as he was...
" alright then. let the game begin, Grimwood against Calloway! " miss Grimwood announced...
