Coming from a very distant future, Yuto knew how important the role Roma had in the human history. Although controversial at times, it was undeniable the contribution it had made to humanity.

Yuto had sworn to protect it but not because he loved Rome. The contradictions inside its disgusted Yuto. He had been living for a long time and there were events they could have avoid such as the Remus' murder or the Rape of the Sabine Women, but Rin would be born one day in many centuries and Yuto intended to give her a safe world; Moreover, he would make amends for past mistakes by watching over humanity as a silent shadow.

The courtyard was well guarded. There were more than ten guards. They were well armed and armoured. He had put some effort into knocking them out, but no one was skilled and responsive enough to keep up with him. After beating them and putting them to sleep, Yuto tied them together, making sure the knots were tight enough not to allow them to untie easily. He also made sure he disarmed them to prevent anyone from using a weapon to cut the ropes.

Yuto turned to the curia. Jack should have started now however he did not hear any screams coming from within. He wondered if the minds of this conspiracy were not magi and so they silenced the building.

Suddenly, a person appeared behind him. He was a tall and sturdy man, thick black hair that went down to his back and polychrome eyes. He wore a legionary plate armour, under a black cloak with a hood down. His weapon was what worried Yuto most because he had already seen it and not in the hand of some random guy but the King of Heroes himself.

"How the hell is it possible-"

Yuto shook his head as the man nearly beheaded him. The brute's strength was such that a simple swing of the gigantic sword caused a small hurricane.

"I am the bone of my sword."

Huge swords fell from the sky, forcing the brute to retreat.

"Steel is my body and fire is my blood."

A frustrated grimace formed on Yuto's face as he was forced to summon Lord Camelot, the black cross-shaped shield that belonged, or would belong, to Galahad, the noblest of the Knights of King Arthur.

The brute was strong. Although it was a closet, he moved with monstrous agility. His shots were both powerful and precise, aiming at Yuto's head. If he hit him there, he'd definitely be dead.

"Just as I was told, your weakness is your head," the brute said with a maniacal smile on his face.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Yuto narrowed his gaze to his opponent. "How the hell do you know who I am?"

"You don't ask me who my Liege is?" the brute swung the broadsword, deflecting and destroying the black keys that had been thrown at him.

It was useless for Yuto to ask his boss' name. The brute would never tell him. Rather, Yuto was almost sure he would prefer death.

The envelope he stole didn't reveal anything about their leader. The addressee's gender was neutral and "king" did not necessarily means that they were a man. The only feeling Yuto had felt in the letter was the great reverence of Gaius Valerius for his leader, almost as if the addressee was a god or similar. And Yuto believed in the existence of gods, though he did not worship them.

"I don't care about them. I know one thing for sure. Those treasures do not belong to you. You have opened his vault. You're just miserable thieves," Yuto said, noting a slight reaction on the brute's stoic face. "Trace."

Yuto raised his arm above his head. The magic circuits flashed and the magic energy began to accumulate in the palm of his hand.

"On."

The sword was bigger than Yuto. It was a large slab of stone, chiselled and honed one the edge.

"Nine Lives Blade Works."

Moving to Godspeed, Yuto swung Hercules' axe sword with force.

The deadly technique devised by Hercules to kill the Hydra of Lerna. A deadly technique that hit nine times simultaneously.

The brute went on the defensive, but the sudden strength he had acquired was too much. Brute's sword broke and his armour shattered. However, the man was still alive and this worried Yuto. Nine lives had been enough to defeat a Servant like Berserker in a possible Fifth Holy Grail War and that was a real monster.

The brute tried to get up, but his head was pushed to the ground. "Answer. Who send you?" Yuto impatiently asked.

"Fuck you," the brute spit.

The Brute grabbed Yuto's leg and threw him away with such force that he broke through a column, crushing against the wall. He got up and approached Yuto, his huge hands wrapped Yuto's neck, squeezing harder and harder. The brute's gaze was full of madness while Yuto's was calm and impassive.

"Once I kill you, I will enjoy fucking that child!" the man declared arrogantly.

Wrong move.

Yuto's face became dark. "Aren't you missing something?"

.

.

.

"AAARGH!" The brute uttered a hallucinating cry that was heard throughout Rome, a hand clasped around the area of his genitalia parts to stop the bleeding. The pride of every man dangled at the end by the chains that wrapped around Yuto's forearms.

Yuto could handle all the physical pain, but he wouldn't let anyone hurt the only family he had. The mere fact that someone even thought it was a crime that Yuto didn't want to go unpunished.

Now Yuto was serious. So far he had played with the brute, even to give Jack time to do her part, but now the time of the games was over. And if before there was a very small chance that Yuto would spare him, now the brute was officially sentenced to death without appeal.

Yuto vanished from view to reappear in front of his opponent, again armed with Nine Lives.

"Die," he coldly murmured.

It was over in an instant.

"Ahahah! Jack hadn't had this much fun in a long time!" Jack said excitedly as she knocked a conspirator out. "Someone is really full of magical energy. I would like to eat them."

Jack really had no idea how important what she was doing was. It was just a game for her, one that she would win and receive a prize from her dad.

She was not a bad person but she was a Wraith formed by the souls of many children who died immediately after birth or aborted and therefore had no idea of the difference between good and evil.

"Uhm..." Jack moved, avoiding a knife that was thrown at her.

"How can you hurt children?" he said, looking at the slight wound on his arm. "You're a bad person."

"Bad?" some muttered.

She had practically terrified them, blocking many of them on their sets.

Jack jumped and landed over the conspirator's head, making him fall face down.

"Move morons if you don't want to end up dead meat," a figure armed with two daggers said, coming out of the shadow in which she was hidden. "This is not the place where a child should be. Too bad, you'd better stay home."

That kind of ninja was totally covered in purple and black rag, but it was possible to see that he was a man, something unusual for those times. The little visible skin was slightly tanned and the eyes were amber. Some strands of black hair fell through the rags that covered her face.

Jack did not find the threat terrifying, rather she found it funny.

"Stop wasting your time with him!"

Suddenly, the door opened and the upper part of the brute's body was thrown into the centre of the room. Yuto entered calmly, dragging Nine Lives behind him.

"Jack, take care of Caesar. Do your best to make him live," Yuto ordered.

Even though Jack was an Assassin Class Servant, she also had some medical skills. Yuto had seen during his Holy Grail War that Jack's medical skills were outdated but effective. They were able to keep a person alive for a while before death came.

"You should call a doctor if you don't want to see him dead," Yuto said while he imprisoned the man who had commissioned the hunting knives. "You stay here. We have a lot to talk about."

Big swords rained around Jack and Caesar too. He wanted to be sure Jack had all the space and quiet she needed to operate Caesar calmly.

"Did you kill Goliath?" the man gripped the daggers and concentrated the magic energy in his legs.

"The guy here was pretty weak." Yuto projected Jack's knives and observed his opponent. "I hope you are better than him."

A horse trotted at great speed through the streets of Rome. Normally it was not possible to ride within the city for reasons of public order, but the ongoing emergency went far beyond the laws. And honestly, the knight would rather pay a fine than not prevent a crime as serious as murder.

The knight, who mounted a white horse, was a young man with narrow and sharp eyes, slightly tanned skin and slightly curled hazel hair on the tips. Although he was not very tall, his body was well-proportioned.

"Can we really trust the message, Marcus?" the legionnaire behind him asked trying to stay in the past with the other horse.

"The message came directly from Tiberius Vedius," Marcus replied. "My family and his have been on good terms since my sister married his son."

This was something that not even Yuto knew. Unbeknownst to the magus, Tiberius had contacted his son-in-law's family to ask for their help. Tiberius was not the kind of man who usually asked for help, and that said a lot about the gravity of the situation.

"Let's split up. You go to the Temple of Aesculapius and get a doctor. I'll call for reinforcements," Marcus ordered.

"Yes, sir!" the legionnaire pulled the reins and took another route.

When he was far enough from Marcus, the legionnaire stopped and observed the Theatre of Pompey in the distance.

An arrogant grin spread across his face as everything was going according to plan.

Caesar's death would pave the way for the next stage of the plan.

An eagle landed on his arm and the legionnaire tied a small piece of papyrus.

"Go."

The eagle squeaked and flew.

"Those idiots have done theirs," the man murmured before calmly resuming his ride to the temple.

The assassin Yuto was looking at was skilled. He had excellent reflexes since he was able to dodge Yuto's slice, and the daggers she was using were prototypes of Jack's daggers. Unfortunately, both the huge sword used by the brute and the knives were Noble Phantasms who did not offer a real fighting ability as Tracing allowed.

As long as they were human or what they were wielding were low-rank Noble Phantasms, Yuto could easily stand up to them.

The man gasped; sweat fell from his forehead.

It was supposed to be an easy job. Kill Caesar and let the blame fall on the Gens Lupis and a blacksmith too greedy to worry about the strangeness of an order or who commissioned it.

However, Goliath had been literally split in two and he had cuts and grazes on his body.

"Do you know why that man died?" Yuto asked.

The assassin shuddered, feeling Yuto's presence behind her. Even more terrifying was that his eyes or senses could not understand him until it was too late.

"He dared to say that he would rape Jack." Thinking that again made Yuto angry.

The assassin reinforced his legs and jumped back. The killing intent that Yuto was releasing was monstrous, worthy of a ravenous beast fighting to defend its territory.

He had never failed a goal. That's why many senators turned to him to kill political opponents. Yet, there was something different.

"The result won't change. If you don't come, I will," Yuto said ominously.+

The assassin swallowed nervously.

Strengthening his legs, he rushed towards Yuto, disappearing a few steps from him and reappearing behind him, aiming at his neck.

One shot. He only needed one shot.

"Die," the killer said, aiming for the neck.

A predictable move.

"An assassin is someone who acts in the shadows silently. This is the basis." Yuto grabbed the man's arm and overturned him on the ground, disarming him and pointing the knife to his throat.

"You killed Goliath, one of the best fighters in our army. Why don't you side with us?" the assassin proposed.

"I serve Rome, not the senate or some fanatical group," Yuto replied, bringing the blade to the murderer's throat. "Who are you and what do you want?"

"Fuck you," the assassin said, remaining unmoved even in the situation in which he was. After all, his fate was sealed and there would be no escape for him because his higher-ups would not accept such a failure. "Rex nos regat!"

He grabbed Yuto's arm and pushed the blade into his neck.

Yuto looked at the corpse. He did not deny that he was disappointed with the result, but he admired him in the end. He had remained loyal to his ideal to the end, preferring to clean the shame with his life.

"Requiescat in pace," Yuto murmured, closing his eyes.

The swords around Jack vanished, and he saw the child beside Caesar's body. The dictator had been stripped, showing how many stabs he had received.

"Jack did her best, but she doesn't know if he'll survive," Jack said, as she let her tools vanish.

"It doesn't matter. You did your best. The rest is up to him," Yuto said, patting Jack's head.

Jack had done her best to patch them up, but the dictator's life was still hanging by a thread.

Caesar's injuries were severe, especially the one in the chest. Yuto doubted that he would survive or at least not be able to express his power as he once did. It was over for Caesar, no matter what the gods wanted.

However, now there was a problem: the Senate.

"I am Archer. I am the one the Divine Ancestor Romulus appointed to protect Rome," Yuto declared, summoning an old and torn banner with the symbol of the Roman eagle embroidered. "If you want to kill Caesar, you must pass over my body."
