"God, it's good to be home," Kaz sighs, stretching his arms out and breathing in the warm air. "Love traveling for Impact, but damn, some states are way too cold right now."
"Some don't even know what weather they want to be," Christopher Daniels responds, tossing his luggage into the car. "Cold one day, hot the next. It's annoying."
"Always makes it fun to figure out what to pack," Kaz agrees, leaning back and stretching, feeling his back muscles relax a little when he shifts forward. "You have appletinis waiting for you at home?"
"Always," Daniels says with a smirk. "And something for you, too."
"I have concerns," Kaz says, quirking an eyebrow at him as they get into the car.
"Why? You know I'm innocent and wouldn't hurt a fly," Daniels teases him.
"Ugh, god," Kaz laughs, tapping his fingers against his knee as Daniels pulls off into traffic and heads home. "It's probably dosed with something ridiculous that will knock me on my ass in five minutes."
Daniels shrugs, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Guess we'll have to find out."
"You're terrifying."
Chris laughs. "You love me either way."
Kaz rolls his neck against the headrest and shrugs. "True."
Daniels offers him a quick smile before turning his attention back onto the road.
Kaz takes his time once they arrive, wandering around the house, putting his luggage away, taking a minute to check his email, respond to a couple of texts, other random things until he hears Daniels calling for him from the kitchen. He grimaces, still a little wary of seeing what he has planned for him. "Coming," he calls back, hesitantly running a hand through his hair before heading down the hall to meet up with Chris. "What's up?"
Daniels smirks at him as he waits by the counter, a frighteningly amused look on his face as Kaz approaches him. "I've had my trademark appletini for years," he says. "I thought it was time you could have a drink of your own."
"Oh no," Kaz mumbles.
"Oh yes." Daniels laughs as he steps aside, letting Kaz look at the two martini glasses side by side.
He recognizes Chris' appletini easy enough, but the one next to it... "Is that a pumpkin martini?" He's not... entirely sure how to feel about that as he stares at the thick, brown mixture.
"Yes it is!" Chris smirks at him. "You should take a sip. I'm sure it's better than it looks."
Kaz exhales, fingers twitching uncomfortably at his side. "You think so?"
"Yep." Daniels nudges the glass towards him, and Kaz sighs, aware that his partner isn't going to let him off the hook here.
"Alright, fine," he mumbles, lifting the delicate glass in his hands. One quick, uncomfortable glance towards Chris and he sips it. It's kind of thick, a little cloying, but not too horrible. He mulls over the taste for a few moments before taking another sip.
"What do you think?"
"Not bad," he finally says. "It tastes better than I expected."
Daniels chuckles, reaching over to get his own appletini. "C'mon, let's go relax in the living room. I was curious what it would be like, you don't need to drink another one if you don't want to."
Kaz hums, following him in. "Ok." But he pauses after another sip, the flavor slowly growing on him, and glances over at Daniels. "Hopefully you kept the recipe."
The smile Daniel gives him makes it all worth it.
