"Eggs, flour, butter," Masato announced as he looked over the hand written instructions. "Cherries…well duh. Man, Mama Kino had terrible handwriting."
He was alone in the apartment he shared with Makato. His beloved was out taking business classes at the university. He wanted to surprise Makoto by making her favorite dish: her late mother's homemade cherry pie. Unfortunately he was already running into some complications.
"Why are there no measurements?" Masato wondered as he flipped the recipe over repeatedly hoping there were more instructions written elsewhere. "Guess I'm going to have to wing it."
He slightly remembered watching Makoto make the recipe before so he hoped he was using enough ingredients. He went to work pitting the cherries before throwing them into a saucepan and remembered to keep the heat about medium. With the cherries prepped he went to work on the crust.
Before long the pie was in the oven and Masato began watching it like a hawk telling himself he wasn't going to let it burn. After the crust was golden brown, he pulled it out just in time as Makoto arrived home.
"Is that?" Makoto asked as she entered the apartment. "Do I smell cherry pie?"
"Maybe," Masato teased as he grabbed a pie knife and went to work cutting it. "How about a hot piece of…"
"Masa, No!" Makoto yelled as she entered the kitchen trying to stop him. Unfortunately she arrived a second too late. Masato lifted the piece of cherry pie up, causing the contents to ooze out onto the rest of the pie, the plate he was holding, and his fingers..
"What the?" Masato gasped as he stared at the mess he made.
"Cherry pie has to cool so the insides thicken," Makoto explained, tears forming in the corner of her eyes.
"Reijin, I'm sorry," Masato apologized as he saw his girlfriend was crying.
"Don't be," Makoto replied, shaking her head. "I'm not crying because I'm sad. I'm actually so happy you tried to make my mom's recipe."
"Really?" Masato wondered, rubbing the back of his neck. "Then, um…can I offer you a bit of…cherry soup?"
"Oh," Makoto shrugged as she slowly approached. "I can think of a way we can use this pie and the condition of it doesn't matter."
"What…," Masato trailed off as he stared at Masato. She grabbed his wrist and brought the fingers covered with cherry syrup to her mouth before sucking them off.
"Yummy," Makoto sang as she finished clearing Masato's fingers. It was the start of the first time the pair made love on the floor of their kitchen.

A/N: 5 down and 2 to go. I know when you read "Warm Meal" you probably assumed it was going to be Makoto cooking for Masato. Truth is I was debating it but instead decided to go with a "S.O. tries to cook something for their master chief beloved and fails" theme. Not the story I've ever written but I think it's cute.
Reviews are love and they keep me going.
