Chapter 10

Rose stood at the rails looking out as people were busy around her. Tears slid down her cheeks as she thought of James. "Why did you have to do that James? Did you really think saving us this way would make it hurt any less?" She thought to herself. She pulled herself out of her thoughts when she noticed that there was something wrong. Right across from them was none other than the Flying Dutchman. She slowly backed away gripping her hand to her chest in worry.

"Lord on high deliver us." Gibbs said softly looking before them.

Jack oddly lifted the jar above his head before smiling back and waving at Jones and his crew. "Hallo! Fish-head! Lose something? Hah-ha! Yoo-0hoo, over here! Have a look see."

"Enough!"

Rose looked up at Jack as if he had gone insane.

"Ahoy ink breath! Squid face! Looking for this? Did you come to negotiate?" He fumbled with the jar lid. "Hold on, now, um, wait, just a second now…"

Elizabeth quickly reacted. "Hard starboard! Hurry men! Move!"

Rose quickly moved towards her sister knowing that this wasn't a good sign of what was to come. Davy Jones would be on them quickly and there was no way to stop this from happening. They needed to do something and that something needed to be done quickly.

The crew scrambled around as a cannon ball ripped through the Captain's Room.

Elizabeth glanced over the rail as a cannon ball flew past her taking out a lantern and knocking one of the crewmembers off the bow.

Jack raced to the wheel to adjust the course to make sure that they weren't about to go lopsided and go the wrong way.

"Aye, Captain! Into the swells! Go square to the wind! All hands, run her full!"

Rose, Elizabeth, and Will pitched in pulling and securing the lines down.

Rose grasped one of the lines, being careful of moving around. She saw Pintel kiss the deck of the ship.

"Go my darling. Show them what you've got."

Rose looked over the edge to see the Flying Dutchman falling further and further behind with each swell of the waves.

"She's falling behind." Elizabeth said with a smile.

"Aye. We got her!" Gibbs said patting the railing he was next to.

"We're the faster?" Will questioned looking over at Gibbs.

"Against the wind the Dutchman beats us. That's how she takes her prey. But with the wind…"

"We rob her advantage."

Gibbs nodded his head.

Rose looked over seeing Will looking back with a hopeful look upon his face. She bit her lower lip softly wondering what that was about.

Elizabeth looked back as the Dutchman broke off its pursuit of them. "She's turning away."

The pirates around them cheered.

Will raced towards Jack with urgency in his eyes. "My father is on that ship! If we can outrun her, we can take her! We should turn and fight."

"Why fight, when you can negotiate?" Jack tapped the jar lid. "All one needs is the proper leverage."

Suddenly the ship lurched causing sailors to fall over, knocking the jar free and shattering it.

"What was that?" Elizabeth questioned looking around rather confused.

Rose bit her lip softly, something didn't quite feel right.

Jack raced down to the deck dropping to his knees going through the sand and finding nothing. "Hello? Where's the heart?"

Rose stumbled as the ship groaned and shuddered to a stop.

"We must have hit a reef!" Elizabeth called out.

"In deep waters like this?" Rose questioned rather concerned. There was no way that they caught on a reef. It would have been in shallower waters that they would have been able to hit a reef like this.

Will frowned, shaking his head. "No. It's not a reef. Get away from the rail."

Rose slowly backed away with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth looked at her fiance. "What is it?"

"The Kraken."

Ragetti looked over at Pintel. "Told you."

The pirate raced to defend the ship.

"To arms! Load guns defend the masts. Boathook to the prow, don't let it get a grip! It will attack to starboard. I've seen it before. Set cannons and hold for my signal."

Rose looked back at Will with a worried gaze upon her face. He faced it before meaning he had seen what had happened before meaning that they were at risk to be joining Davy Jones's locker and that is one thing that she didn't want to see happen.

Cannons were being loaded up with everything that they needed.

Rose swallowed the lump in her throat as she watched with a nervous gaze of the tentacles creeping over the rail.

"Hold fire! Hold!" Will shouted.

"Aye! Give the word! Ready! Very ready! Oh so very ready!" Pintel shouted back to WIll hoping that it would be given very soon.

"Will…" Elizabeth called out to him nervously.

"Fire!"

The cannons were fired and the tentacles were blown away. The ship began to roll, tentacles flared and whipped down smashing the longboats into splinters. They whipped into an empty space.

Rose looked around worried.

"It will be back!" Will shouted back to them. He looked at Elizabeth and Rose. "Get off the ship."

Elizabeth looked at Will touching his face. "No boats."

Will looked over and let out a defeated breath. He knocked over a barrel and kicked it, rolling it towards the hold. "Pull the grids! All the gunpowder, onto the net in the cargo hold!"

The pirates scrambled to comply with the order that was given.

Rose quickly went to help the others grabbing a barrel of gunpowder rolling it to the net. "We're short on the gunpowder!" She shouted in shock knowing that this wasn't a good sign. "Six barrels!"

Gibbs turned to Will with a concerned gaze. "We've only half a dozen barrels of powder!"

Will went below the deck. "Then use the rum."

The pirates hesitated except for Rose who quickly moved on it.

Gibbs took a breath knowing that this was their only shot. "Aye the rum too."

Rose loaded some of the rum onto the net as well. She moved slowly to help them slowly raise the netting.

Will secured the line for the net. "Haul away!"

"Heave! Heave! Heave like you're being paid for it." Gibbs shouted from the deck.

The pirates and Rose began to put their backs into it. The rope net rose with the gunpowder and rum barrels put into it like a formulated plan was written on the decks of the ship.

Tentacles slammed into the ship through the cannon ports racing over the deck of the ship to the far side.

Rose moved up the stairs slowly dodging the tentacles that tried to hit her. She took a shaky breath knowing that this was probably their last chance at getting away.
