The sun-shaped platform had opened to reveal a set of stairs.

"I have to walk-a so many stairs today..." Mario complained.

"At least you're getting good exercise!"

Mario glared at her. "And what did you-a mean by that?"

"Bye!" She flew down the stairs.

"Get back here and-a tell me what you meant!" He stopped at the bottom of the stairs, shivering. "M-m-mamma m-m-mia! It's s-s-so c-c-cold!"

"Brr..." Olivia was shivering as well. "M-M-Mario's right, it's f-f-freezing!"

"Well, the sun can't hit here." He looked around. "But it's far too cold to be anything related to the desert. I must investigate!" He rushed off ahead.

"L-l-let's keep moving, Mar-r-rio s-s-so w-w-we don't f-f-freeze!"

They followed Stephen and found a large chunk of ice in the center of the room. Stephen was attacking the ice with his tiny little shovel, only small chunks coming off every time.

"There's somebody trapped in there!" Stephen explained. "We need to free them!"

"Seraphina's Magic Circle!" Olivia flew over to it. "Thanks, Seraphina!" She became the Fire Vellumental again. "Wow, I'm not cold anymore! Hey, Stephen! Would you mind moving?"

"Right away, Olivia!" He rushed over to Mario.

"Let's see who this is, shall we?" She melted the ice with her fire breath, then coughed smoke again. "Woo, she gives you heartburn." Once she was herself, the three of them went over to the red Toad who stood, arms outstretched, in place of the ice. "Hm? A Toad? Hello there!"

They were unlike any Toad Mario had seen before. He bore a black coat with red edges and the symbol of a crown on the high collar, which had been flipped down. Their hands rested in the pockets when they began to move again, and a small smile appeared on his face.

"You found me, Mani. You win."

"I'm not Mani, I'm Olivia!" She held out her hand. "Nice to meet you!"

"Wait, that stature, that speech...It cannot be true!"

"You seek truth? Turn to the stars."

"It's the legendary Kaaptan Teeowed!"

"Huh?" Mario asked.

"Who?" Olivia shrugged.

"Yes, it is true. I am the legendary captain who lived to venture under the waves of the sea."

"This question has stumped archeologists for years. Now that I've met you in person I can finally ask...How do you take your coffee?"

He thought, looking up with his closed eyes. "Cream with three sugars."

"THREE sugars! I would never have dreamed of anything like it! My studies have finally been compl-" He calmed down. "Wait, not yet. Kaaptan, can you read this text?" He handed Kaaptan Teeowed the book he recovered from the Temple of Shrooms.

Kaaptan Teeowed flipped it open. "...I see. This is all balderdash. You shouldn't believe this false information." He handed the book back to Stephen. "You, Olivia, look like a friend of mine named Mani. She was very kind, as you are now."

"How can he see if his eyes are closed...?" Mario elbowed her. "Um, that's the second time I've been called Mani today. I can't wait to meet her!"

"Let me see...Yes the Bibliofolds. I can sense them nearby. Where are you, Lemon?"

"Lemon's with me, along with Chikyū and Seraphina! They're letting me borrow their powers so I can stop my evil brother from destroying the world! What do you say, want to join us?"

"I see you're being truthful. Yes, I'll join you. Alas, my mighty vessel is trapped somewhere far from here. She yearns to be freed. She calls me. I must take my leave."

"But you didn't do anything," Olivia said.

Kaaptan Teeowed walked out, so the three started following him back to Toad Town. Once they were arrived, Mario looked around. He saw Kaaptan Teeowed enter the Musee Champignon, and followed. They lost sight of him when they entered, however.

Mario walked up to the Toad at the front desk, the one he saved in Graffiti Underground. "Have you seen a red Toad come in here?"

"No, why? Did somebody come in and I didn't notice?!" He sighed. "I need to up my prescription again, it seems..."

The submarine behind them opened and Kaaptan Teeowed's head poked out. "She is untouched and ready for the Great Sea."

"What the-How did you get in there? Get off the display!"

"Hi, Captain!" Olivia waved. "Is the view pretty from up there?"

"...It's not that high, Olivia. Ah, but to explore we'll need my trustful Sea Chart. I will return." He ducked back into the submarine.

"Who the heck is THAT guy?"

"That's the legendary Kaaptan Teeowed!"

"THE Legendary Kaaptan Teeowed?!"

Stephen nodded. "We found him frozen in a giant freezer in Scorching Sandpaper Desert."

"I...believed it until then."

Stephen shrugged. "Makes sense, you kind of had to be there."

Kaaptan Teeowed poked his head back out. "How to set sail from here, I wonder?"

Mario offered to have the Toad from the Monty Mole cave get it over to the boat on the port. Kaaptan Teeowed agreed and they helped him properly set it up.

"So you said the next streamer was in the sea? I can't wait to see it!"

"I thank you, Mario. She will ride under the waves once more."

"You're welcome!"

When they reached the open sea, Olivia let out a loud gasp.

"WOAH! It's so biiiig! No wonder it's called the Great Sea! Look at that! Feel the wind, see the sea! Heehee, has anybody tried rhyming those two before?"

Mario shrugged and accepted the sea map from Kaaptan Teeowed.

"I've marked a special place where we can remove of this pesky fog from. Just use the sea chart if you need to find your way." He walked over to Olivia. "Are you sure you're not Mani? You two look almost identical..."

"Nope! I don't know anyone named Mani. Can you-if you don't mind-tell me about her?"

"I am fine to tell you all I remember about her."
