Mario found an island shaped like a crescent moon, and when Olivia used the Earth Vellumental on the island, it changed to a full moon. In the center sat a statue of a winged Toad and a treasure chest sitting in front of it. Olly's seal blocked it off.
"Ooh, whatever's in here must be important if Olly blocked it. Take off the seal, reveal the treasure!"
Mario tore it off and opened the chest. Inside was a green mushroom-shaped door handle and a note from Luigi.
"What's it say, what's it say?"
"Luigi says he-a found the key to Peach's castle this time and-a said to meet him on the Mushroom-shaped island."
"Explains the door handle," Olivia said, turning it around a few times in her hand. "Let's go then!"
The mushroom island had a cute little mushroom-shaped house that matched the doorknob. It was incased with ice, so Olivia used Seraphina's Magic Circle she found to melt it, and they headed inside. Mario walked into the one-room house and inserted the doorknob into the door on the back door. He exited and saw Luigi napping on a lawn chair in the back yard. He walked over to Luigi.
"Luigi!"
"I did it, Big Bro! I found the key to Peach's castle!" Luigi, eyes remaining closed, handed Mario an old, grey key with a red diamond shape on the top, and the unlocking part being diamond-shaped as well.
"Ooh, it looks so cool! But..." She moved closer to Luigi and rested a hand on his shoulder. "Luigi. Dear, sweet Luigi. This still isn't the key to Peach's castle."
"What?! I should have-a known! That key isn't Peach's style at all!" Luigi hopped up from the seat. "I didn't see anyone on this island when I got here, but I should thank them for letting me take a nap on their island for a while. Swimming in overalls really takes it-a out of you!"
Luigi followed Mario down a flight of stairs in the back yard that led to the basement. The basement was cute like the rest of the house.
And filled with origami.
"Oh wow! It feels like a lifetime ago now but," Olivia smiled at the brothers. "It's good to be home."
"Whaaaaa?!" They yelled in unison.
Olivia nodded. "Yeah, Olly folded me right over here." She flew over to the origami workbench. On it, sat two little thrones; one purple and one white. "He did such a good job folding me that I came to life! It was really sweet how much he cared for me but..." She gave the thrones a sad expression. "Now look at him."
The purple one was standing upright on the desk where the desk lamp nearby did not shine. The white one, however, was the opposite; knocked over and in the light.
"...I can hear you."
Everybody looked around, startled at this new voice. It, slightly muffled, called for help.
"We need to find a Magic Circle somewhere, Mario."
Mario spotted the corner of a book hanging over the side of a high shelf. Hitting it with his hammer made it inch towards the edge, but nothing more.
"Hey, Big Bro! I have an idea. Hit me with-a your hammer!"
Mario, whacking him, questioned why he wanted him to do so.
"Now hop on!"
Mario understood the assignment and hopped onto his crumpled brother. Luigi fixed the crinkles and fired Mario upwards, to the top of the shelf.
"Wahoo!" Luigi cheered, and the brothers gave each other a thumbs-up.
Mario tore Olly's seal off of the book and it fell off the shelf, landing on the ground in front of Luigi. Mario hopped back down and picked up the book, opening to the fifth page.
"This is-a talking about the Fold of Life..." Mario said.
A Magic Circle came out of the end of the book and floated over to the back wall. Mario, using the arms, felt around the wall until he was able to grab onto a small corner of the false wall covering the real wall behind it. Mario tore off the false wall, only to realize it had ripped and some of it still remained. He now saw who was previously calling for help: it was a green Toad with the brightest green Mario had ever seen on a Toad.
"You're-a almost free," Mario explained, tearing off the rest of the false wall.
It revealed that there was one of Olly's seals keeping the Toad in place this entire time, and the wall was just to hide them. Mario removed the seal and the Toad gracefully fell to the ground.
"Huh? Mario? I have a real celebrity in my home, and Luigi's here too! What a lucky day!" The Toad's face beamed. "I'm the Origami Craftsman. I fold origami from sun up to sun down EVERY day...I really love origami."
"Explains the house," Luigi mentioned, motioning towards the rest of the room.
"Crease my corners! Olivia? Is that you? Why, you look just as I had imagined you! Who folded you?"
"Olly did," she explained cheerfully. "You must be the one who folded my brother, right?"
The Origami Craftsman's smile dissipated. "Oh, oh dear. That's not right."
"Huh? What's wrong, Origami Craftsman?"
"Please, just call me Owen." He held up his empty hand, the other holding tightly onto three primary colored sheets of origami paper. "Olly folded you? But you're alive! How did he find out about the Fold of Life? Did he get his hands on that book? Oh, I really hope he didn't..."
"Um, Owen? Does that mean you don't know?"
"Don't know what?"
"Olly has the Fold of Life. He can use it to his will."
"What?! B-but how?! That's not possible! It took me years to master the technique and he can just use it willy-nilly? How did he learn it so fast?"
"He was born with it, Owen."
"Wh-what? Born with it? But you can't be born with it, it's impossible. It can only be learned, or...so I thought. Was it because I used it on him? Was it because I was too excited about the Origami Festival?"
Olivia nodded. "Yes, he was born with it, just like me. Is there...something wrong with that?"
He looked at her worried expression. "Olivia...Origami has folded origami! This defies natural order! Olly can't just go around messing up the laws of physics now, can he?"
Olivia shared a glance with Mario. "Um...about that."
She explained everything that had happened up to that point, including the loss of Bobby. Luigi seemed particularly touched on that part, as Mario caught him wiping away a tear.
"He's trying to fold the Toads?" His gaze shifted to the ground. "I think I know why. I wrote a very sweet letter to him...on him."
"What? That's why he's doing this? Because you wrote a letter to him?"
"I wrote the letter onto his paper, that way it'll always be with him. I wished him good luck as the new king but...he took it the wrong way, it seems."
"Mamma mia," Luigi finally said. "That's actually kind of-a sad!"
"Yeah, Olly turned on me," Owen continued. "I shouldn't have done any of this. I don't get to celebrate my craft very often so I went a little...overboard. I shouldn't have used that darn Fold of Life."
"No, don't say that! I love being alive! If it weren't for you folding Olly, I wouldn't be alive and I wouldn't have made so many wonderful memories with them! I bet he misses you, but he has no idea because he's...so blinded by anger..."
"Are you alright, Olivia?"
She faced away from him. "He's becoming a monster, Owen. He tried to kill me, the very first thing he folded and actually loved. And...he wants to kill the toads too, I'll bet. Because of your mistake and his misunderstanding."
"Wait, Olly said he could-a read the Ancient Text. Couldn't he just have read the-a letter?"
Owen rubbed his head, the mushroom cap bouncing slightly with the movements. "It's hidden under a few of his folds, actually. I wanted it to be a surprise. Wait, he can read the Ancient Texts in Scorching Sandpaper Desert?"
"And the really Ancient Text that Stephen has trouble reading!" Olivia inserted.
"That's odd...I over heard him mention not being able to read the modern text we use in the Mushroom Kingdom now. I wonder...But I digress. I really hope to see Olly again, even if I die doing so."
"Owen, he's a master Origami Craftsman, just like you! You two have so much in common, like how much you talk!"
"I don't talk THAT much..."
"Olly was super talkative and happy when I had first met him; kind of like me, in a way!"
"So Olly changed, hm? That's not good. The power may be getting to his head. Olivia, you need to stop him, no matter the cost."
"Come with us! We need you!"
"Olivia, I failed at trying to convince him, and I'd only fail again. You're better off without me, honestly."
"But Owen-"
He sighed with a heavy heart. "Look Olivia, I know how much Olly means to the both of us; but if he really means to destroy the Toads, you'd have a better chance at convincing him otherwise without me there and getting in your way. I'll stay here, okay?"
Olivia looked at the ground below them. "I just thought you should try talking to him again, is all."
"I might not have folded you myself, Olivia; but I'm proud of you."
"Ooooh, that's why-a I was trying to find the key for Peach's castle! We need that key if we ever want to stop Olly!" He smiled at Mario. "Don't worry, Big Bro! I won't-a disappoint you next time!" Luigi rushed out quicker than he'd come, and in a flash, he was off on another adventure.
"I love Luigi's spirit," Olivia admitted. "I want optimism like that one day."
"We should-a find what this key unlocks, Olivia!"
"Oh right! We should! All of Luigi's keys have been helpful so far, so let's see if this one doesn't disappoint!"
"Olivia?"
"Hm?"
"Thank you, for everything."
"You're welcome, father." She gave him a gentle smile and exited the room in pursuit of Mario.
"Oh, wait!" He stopped her by placing a hand on her shoulder. "I want you to have these notes. They'll come in handy later."
He handed her a sheet of paper, the words inscripted on them facing the skies. She examined them.
"Oh! Thank you so much!" She returned to Mario. "Heehee, let's keep going then. Okay?"
"Yahoo!" And, with a jump, hurried back to their mighty sea vessel.
