Chapter 2: Fearow With a Vengeance!
Route 22
"Ni-do-ran!" said Nidoran as he used Poison Sting. "Dodge it!" I replied. "Gey!" Hurricane replied as he dodged the attack. He flew around his opponent for a couple seconds, and then stopped; staying behind Nidoran's back. "Now use Air Slash!" I said. "Pid-gey!" he replied as his wings glew light blue and flapped them at his opponent; firing off multiple light blue blades of energy from them. Nidoran turned around, saw the attack, and took the hits. After the last hit, he fell to the ground and layed there with his eyes closed. Hurricane flew down to him and stared him down. Once he got close, Nidoran opened his eyes and tackled him away; pushing him back. "Hurricane!" I said in a worried tone. When he heard my voice, he opened his eyes and flew back upto the sky. "Hurricane, are you alright?" I asked him. "Pidgey!" he replied as he nodded his head yes to my question. I breathed a sigh of relief after that. "That's good to hear." I said. "Nido!" said Nidoran. He blinked his red eyes and began charging at Hurricane. As he ran, I noticed that his horn was beginning to glow. "Here he comes! Use Wing Attack on the horn to stop him!" I said. "Gey! Pid-gey!" Hurricane replied as he used the attack on Nidoran's horn; making their strength of attacks clash.
A few seconds after the clash... Sora, Celina, Zuzu, Pat, and Zach turned around and saw me battling the Nidoran. Their eyes widened in shock for a second, and then they ran over to me; staying by Dragonfire's side. "Whoa! Check it out!" said Sora. "When did this happen?" Pat replied. "Probably after the call with Yuya. But look at it. I've never seen a Nidoran like that before. Where did it come from?" Zuzu replied. "Who knows, but if she catches this one... maybe we will get the full story on it later." Zach replied. Zuzu and Pat nodded their heads in agreement, and then the group began watching the battle again.
Hurricane and I stared down Nidoran as he shook his head, stared at us, and began charging at us with his glowing horn again. "This is it! One last Air Slash!" I said. "Pidgey! Pid-gey!" Hurricane replied as he used Air Slash again. Nidoran took out a couple of the blades, but then was stopped by at least twelve more; ending his attack. "Nido!" he said as he fell back from the attack. "Alright! Go, Taylor!" said Sora happily as he pumped a fist in the air. "She's got him now." Celina replied. Nidoran tried to stand up, but he fell back down to the ground from exhaustion. I smirked at Nidoran, took out a PokéBall, and prepared to throw it. "Here goes nothing. PokéBall! Go!" I said as I threw it. The PokéBall spun for a couple seconds, touched Nidoran, and then began the capture process. It closed up and landed on the ground. We watched it shake three times, and then the Ball made a dinging sound; confirming the capture. I walked upto the PokéBall, and picked it up. "Alright! I just caught a Nidoran!" I said happily.
The group smiled happily at the result of the capture. My Pokémon ran and flew over to me; celebrating the capture. "Congrats, Tay." said Celina. I turned around and saw her and the group looking at me. "Thanks, Celina." I replied. "Taylor, you were amazing! Your skills are incredible!" said Sora. "Thank you, Sora." I replied happily. "Well, she did learn from the best." Zach replied. "Huh?" Sora replied curiously. "Sora, the Champion of the region is her brother." Celina replied. "What!? The Champion is her brother!?" Sora replied in shock. I nodded my head yes to his response. "Yep. He taught her everything she needed to know about battling and catching Pokémon." Zach replied. "Really?" Sora replied. Zach nodded his head yes to his response. "Wow... she might be a better battler than most of us in the Academy. She might even be better than Celina and Yuri." he replied. "That remains to be seen." Celina replied. "Hm? What do you mean by that?" I replied curiously. "Because I want to challenge you first." she replied. "What!?" said the group in a surprised tone.
"Remember the group text when I said I want to challenge you?" she asked me. "Yeah. I remember. Do you have more than one Pokémon on your team?" I replied. "I do." she replied. "How many? Besides your Nidoran?" I replied. "I have 3 more Pokémon with me, and I want to battle against your first 3 Pokémon. I wanna see how strong they truly are." she replied. I turned to Tetrax, Dragonfire, and Aurasoul for a moment, and saw them smile confidently at me; accepting the challenge. "You guys sure about this?" I asked them. "Pika-pi!" Tetrax replied. Aurasoul and Dragonfire nodded their heads yes to my question. After accepting their answers, I turned back to Celina, and lightly smiled at her. "Okay. We accept your challenge." I said. She smiled happily to my response, and we shook hands; accepting the battle request. "Hold on, you two. Before the battle starts... Taylor should get her Pidgey and Nidoran healed up first." said Zuzu. "She's right. She's gotta make sure that they are okay before doing anything." Pat replied.
We all looked at each other silently, and then I looked at Hurricane; knowing that Zuzu is right. "Alright. Let's take you to the Pokémon Center, buddy." I said. "Pidgey." he replied. "We'll go with you." Celina replied. I lightly smiled at her and the group, and then we went back to the Viridian City Pokémon Center; healing Hurricane, my Nidoran, and Sora's Munchlax. After they were healed, we went back to Route 22; preparing for the battle. "Nidoran, come on out!" I said as I threw Nidoran's PokéBall in the air. It opened and Nidoran appeared; sparkling for a couple seconds. "Nido!" he said. "Okay, Nidoran... I want you to sit here with Hurricane and the other Pokémon here. I want you to watch this battle carefully, and learn new strategies from us." I replied. "Ni-do!" he replied as he nodded his head yes to my response. I smiled warmly at him, and gave him and Hurricane a couple Pecha Berries; making them happy. After that, I stood up and walked to my side of the field; seeing Celina smiling confidently at me.
"I guess that this is the first time that we are going to see her battle a Trainer, huh?" said Pat. "Yep. And I hope that she wins this one." Zach replied. "Oh? We're picking sides now, are we? Okay, Zach... I see how it is." Pat replied. "What are you talking about?" Zach replied curiously. "You heard me." Pat replied. "Huh?" Zach replied. "If you're picking sides... then I pick Celina to win this battle." Pat replied. "What..? Dude, no. I'm not picking sides. I don't know where that came from. I'm rooting for Tay because I want to see what she had learned from Red." Zach replied. "Oh, please. You're just saying that because you know that Celina is definitely going to win this one." Pat replied. "Okay, man. You're really letting yourself go overboard with this." Zach replied. "Overboard? I'll show you overboard!" Pat replied. Before he had done anything, Zuzu had smacked him with her giant paper fan; making him stop fighting with Zach. "Enough. Just sit down and watch the battle." she told him. "Ow! Okay. Geez... that hurt." he replied. Zach and Sora stared at each other for a moment, and then turned to Zuzu as she sat down next to her Vulpix. "Thanks, Zuzu." said Zach. "You're welcome." she replied. They lightly smiled at each other, and then looked back at me and Celina.
"You ready, Tay?" she asked me. "Yep. I'm ready." I replied. "Then let's do this! Go, Raticate!" she replied as she threw a PokéBall up in the air. It opened and Raticate appeared on the field. "Raticate!" it said. "A Raticate?" I said to myself. I took out my Phone and saw the PokéDex part of it activate. "Raticate. The Mouse Pokémon. A Normal type. And the evolved form of Rattata. Raticate's sturdy fangs grow steadily. To keep them ground down, it gnaws on rocks and logs. It may even chew on the walls of houses." said my PokéDex. "I see. Those fangs are going to be trouble. I gotta take it down quick on this one before my Pokémon become chew toys to it." I said in my thoughts. I looked at my three Pokémon for a second, and then looked back at Celina and her Raticate. "Okay. Tetrax! I choose you!" I said. "Pika! Pika-chu!" Tetrax replied as he jumped up on the field; ready to battle. "Oh... you chose your Pikachu to go first. Interesting choice, Tay. I thought that you would've wanted your Lucario to go first?" Celina replied. "Why? Because of type advantage? True... I could've picked my Lucario first... but let's just say... I'm saving him for whoever you have next on your team." I replied. "Oh, really? Then bring it on!" she replied. "Battle begin!" said Sora.
Battle! Taylor vs. Celina!
"Tetrax! Use Quick Attack!" I said. "Pika! Pika-pika-pika-pika!" he replied as he used the attack. "Stop it with Super Fang!" said Celina. "Cate! Ra-ti-cate!" Raticate replied as its teeth glew white and bit down on Tetrax's back. "Pika!" Tetrax cried out in pain. "Tetrax!" I said worriedly. "Now throw him up in the air!" said Celina. "Rat!" Raticate replied as it released Tetrax from its mouth and threw him up in the air. "Now use Close Combat!" Celina replied. Raticate jumped up in the air and began hitting Tetrax with its feet and tail. After one last kick from its foot, Tetrax crashed down to the ground and rolled over a couple times. "Oh no!" said Sora in a worried tone. "Pi... Pika." said Tetrax as he tried to stand back up. "Hang in there, Tetrax! I know that you can do it! I believe in you!" I said. Aurasoul and Dragonfire cheered on for their brother; hoping for him to get back up. Raticate landed back down perfectly and stared at Tetrax; seeing him slowly getting back up. "Let's end this quick! Use Double-Edge!" said Celina. "Cate! Rati-cate!" Raticate replied as it was surrounded in white streaks of aura and charged at full force.
As it got close, Tetrax got back up on his feet, quickly opened his eyes, glared at Raticate, and dodged the incoming attack. "What!?" said Celina in shock. I smirked at her reaction; knowing that I got her on the ropes. "Now! Send it flying with Iron Tail!" I said. "Pika! Pika-chu! Pika!" Tetrax as he used the attack; sending Raticate flying to the sky. "No! Raticate!" said Celina. "Now use Thunderbolt!" I said. Tetrax smirked at Raticate as it began falling down. He then ran upto it, jumped in mid air, and began to use the attack. "Pika-chu!" he said as the attack happened. The green bolt of electricity hit Raticate; making it screech in pain. Celina gasped in shock of what was happening. After the attack ended, Raticate fell to the ground, tried to stand back up, and then fainted. Sora ran upto Raticate and checked on it to confirm the result of the battle. "Raticate is unable to battle! Tetrax is the winner!" he said.
"Alright! Way to go, Tetrax!" said Zuzu happily. "Vulpix!" Vulpix cheered happily. The rest of the Pokémon cheered happily at the result too. Tetrax smiled at the victory, turned to me, and then started to feel a very sharp pain on his back. I ran upto him and gently picked him up; seeing the wound on his back. "Pika-pi..." he said. I could tell in his voice that if he kept on battling with this wound, he would be in a lot more pain. "You did great, buddy. You battled perfectly. I'm so proud of you." I said. "Pika-chu." he replied happily; wagging his tail a little bit. "Now you can take a good rest. I don't want that wound on your back to get worse, okay?" I replied in a motherly tone. He nodded his head in agreement. I walked him back to the group, and let him lay down next to Vulpix. I took out some medicine, and sprayed it on his back. "There you go. Now you can kick back, relax, and watch your brothers battle. That sound good?" I asked him. He smiled happily at me and wagged his tail; showing me that he is okay to watch. I smiled warmly at him, and then walked back to Aurasoul and Dragonfire.
"Raticate, return." said Celina as Raticate returned to its PokéBall. She blinked her eyes and smiled down at the PokéBall in her hand. "You did great out there. Now take a good rest." she said. She put Raticate's PokéBall away and took out a new PokéBall. "You're pretty good, Tay. I haven't seen a Pikachu as fast and sturdy as yours. I'm impressed." she said. "Thanks. Your Raticate is good as well. I can tell that you've trained it well." I replied. "Thanks. But now, let's get back to business. Go, Hitmonlee!" she replied as she threw the PokéBall in the air. It opened and Hitmonlee appeared; standing tall with his arms crossed. "Hitmon-lee!" said Hitmonlee. "Huh!?" said Pat surprised. "When did she get that!?" Zach replied. "She got it a few months ago from the Fighting Dojo Master." Sora replied. "The Fighting Dojo Master?" Pat replied curiously. "Mhm. Master Kiyo runs the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. Celina, Yuri, Dennis, and I went there a few months ago to see what it was all about. Celina did the challenge of battling the students and Kiyo, won them, and had to choose between Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan as a gift from the Karate Master himself. After beating Kiyo, she chose Hitmonlee because she liked their kicking fighting-style." Sora replied.
Zach and Pat were surprised to Sora's response. They then looked at each other; wondering if their siblings went to the Dojo as well five years ago. They then turned back to me; seeing Aurasoul walk onto the field. "Oh. I guess we missed her choosing him for this match." said Pat. "Yeah, but how are they going to deal with this? If Hitmonlee's kicks are powerful as Sora says... I think that they won't stand a chance." Zach replied. Pat blinked his eyes and then looked down at his Bulbasaur; seeing him cheer for Aurasoul alongside his friends. Zach looked at his Squirtle; seeing him cheering as well. They lightly smiled at their partners and then turned back to the battle. Before they fought, Aurasoul and Hitmonlee bowed to each other in respect; showing off their sportsmanship. Celina and I were surprised of their actions, but we were happy nonetheless.
"Okay, Aurasoul! Let's kick things off with Meteor Mash!" I said. Aurasoul made a confident sound as his body was covered in a blue aura, stuck out his right paw, and ran towards his opponent; punching him in the face. Hitmonlee was pushed back from the attack, but he shook it off; enduring its strength. "We won't be taken down that easily! Hitmonlee, use High Jump Kick!" said Celina. "Lee! Hit-mon-lee!" Hitmonlee replied as he jumped in the air, landed down in front of Aurasoul, and hit him in the stomach with his knee; knocking him away. He was pushed back about a couple yards away, but he stopped himself from sliding away. He shrugged off the pain and looked at Hitmonlee. "Aurasoul? You okay?" I asked him. He made an assuring sound as he nodded his head yes to me. I smiled and nodded my head to him in understanding. "Okay. Use Aura Sphere!" I said. Aurasoul ran back to the field, stopped, put his paws together, formed a blue ball of energy, and threw it at Hitmonlee. "Knock it away!" said Celina. "Lee! Hitmon-lee!" Hitmonlee replied as it kicked the Aura Sphere away. Aurasoul was shocked of what Hitmonlee had done, and then turned to me; seeing the shocked look on my face.
"No way! I thought Aura Sphere never misses its opponent?" said Zach surprised. "I guess that Celina found a way to reflect an attack like that to outsmart her opponents." Zuzu replied. The two of them noticed the shocked look on my face and saw me clutch my fist; trying to figure out what to do next. "Come on, Tay... I know that you can do this. I believe in you." said Zach in his thoughts. "Aura Sphere!" I said. Aurasoul used the attack again, and Hitmonlee kicked it away to the sky again; making us furious. Celina smirked at me as Aurasoul got back to a normal stance. "Keep on trying, Tay. Aura Sphere is not going to work around Hitmonlee. Even if you do get a lucky hit... those Spheres will be kicked away no matter what." she said. "Damn... she's right. But... how am I supposed to get a lucky hit on it? Hm... the ground..? Maybe if I let Aurasoul hit the ground with Bone Rush and make himself invisible... then they won't be able to see him." I said in my thoughts. Aurasoul turned to me and made a sound; wondering what I was up too. I looked at him and he began sensing my aura; reading my mind. Once he read the plan in my mind, he smirked confidently at me; knowing that this might work.
"Since he's distracted. Hitmonlee, use Blaze Kick!" said Celina. "Hitmonlee!" Hitmonlee replied as he ran up and set his right foot a flame. "Aurasoul! Bone Rush on the ground!" I said. "Huh!?" said the group in a surprised tone. Aurasoul let out a battle cry as he put his paws in front of him and spread them apart; creating a light blue-green bone of energy. He spun it around in his paws and then began hitting the ground; creating a cloud of dirt around him. Hitmonlee came in with Blaze Kick and jumped into the dirt cloud; hitting his foot on the ground. He looked around the dirt cloud and noticed that Aurasoul was gone. "Lee! Hit-mon-lee!" he said as he looked around; trying to find him. "Keep looking for him, Hitmonlee! I know that he is close. Use the light of Blaze Kick to find him!" said Celina. Hitmonlee kept on looking around for a few more seconds, and then began to use Blaze Kick again; hoping it would hit something. After many failed hits, Hitmonlee began to feel exhausted. He turned to his left and saw multiple Aura Spheres come through the cloud of dirt; hitting him successfully. The force of the attack sent him flying out of the cloud and up to the sky. "What!?" said Celina in shock.
I smirked at what was happening; liking the shocked look on her face. "Now use Bone Rush!" I said. Aurasoul appeared out of nowhere, jumped up in the air, and used the attack again from above; sending Hitmonlee down to the ground. "No! Hitmonlee!" said Celina worriedly. "Hit-mon-lee..." Hitmonlee replied as it collapsed to the ground; fainting from exhaustion. "Hitmonlee is unable to battle! Aurasoul is the winner!" said Sora. "Alright! Way to go, Aurasoul!" I said happily. Aurasoul made a happy sound and ran upto me; giving me a hug. "Wow... I've never seen a strategy like that before." said Pat. "Yeah. That was incredible. She figured out how to use the field to her advantage. That's something I haven't seen anyone at the Academy do before." Sora replied. "Not even Yuri?" Pat replied. Sora nodded his head yes to his response. "Wow... maybe she can teach them about that when we see him." Zach replied. "Yeah." Sora replied.
The boys nodded their heads in agreement, and then looked back at the battle. "Hitmonlee, return." said Celina as she returned him to his PokéBall. She looked down at it and smiled. "You were great. Now take a nice, long rest." she said. She put his PokéBall away, and took out one last PokéBall. "I don't know how you do it, Tay... but you have outsmarted me. I'd never thought of you using the field to your advantage." she told me. "Thanks. Maybe after this, I can teach you and Sora all about it." I replied as Aurasoul returned to my side; standing next to Dragonfire. "Thank you for the offer, but now it's time for you to meet my strongest Pokémon! Come on out, Venusaur!" she replied as she threw the PokéBall in the air. It opened and Venusaur appeared; standing firmly on the ground. "Venu-saur!" said Venusaur. "A Venusaur!? That's the same Pokémon that my sister has!" said Pat in shock. Zach took out his Phone and activated his PokéDex. "Venusaur, the Seed Pokémon. A Grass and Poison type. It's believed that a nutritious diet and lots of sunlight make Venusaur's flower bloom in more vibrant colors. The flower's scent can calm and heal the human heart." said Zach's PokéDex.
"Wait a second... doesn't Taylor's brother have a Venusaur too?" Zuzu asked curiously. "Yeah. He does. Wait... does that mean?" Zach replied. "Mhm. That means Taylor knows how to go against a Venusaur!" she replied; making Pat and Sora shocked. "You're right! She knows that Venusaur is weak to Fire and Flying-types. So she's pretty much got this in the bag." Zach replied. Zuzu nodded her head in agreement and then the group looked at the Pokémon on the grass; seeing and hearing them cheer for both sides. I stared down Venusaur for a moment, turned around, and looked up at Dragonfire. "You ready?" I asked him. He roared happily to my response and then flew to the field; staring at Venusaur. He then roared to the sky, and let out some fire from his mouth; ready to fight. "Wow... someone's confident over there." said Celina. "You can thank the burning, fighting spirit inside his heart. That's been a characteristic of his ever since he was a Charmander." I replied. "Interesting. Now let's see what he can do." she replied. "You got it! Dragonfire, use Flamethrower!" I replied. Dragonfire roared, flew up in the air, and shot out fire from his mouth at Venusaur.
"Energy Ball!" said Celina. "Ve-nu-saur!" Venusaur replied as it made a ball of light green energy from its mouth, and fired it at the Flamethrower; causing and explosion in the sky. As the smoke faded, Dragonfire began his descend with his wings glowing light blue. "What the? What move is that?" she said. "Dual Wingbeat!" I replied. Dragonfire roared and hit Venusaur with both of his wings; making it push back a little bit. "Well we can counter that! Seed Bomb!" Celina replied. "Venu-saur!" Venusaur replied as it made the center of its flower glow white and fire green glowing seeds from it. "Dragonfire! Use Dual Wingbeat to knock the seeds away!" I replied. Dragonfire nodded his head in understanding, flew up as his wings glew again, and began hitting the seeds with them; sending them in different directions. As the seeds fell, they exploded in the sky like fireworks; making all of us look in awe. "Nice strategy, Tay." said Celina. "Thanks." I replied. We smirked at each other, and then shouted our next commands. "Flare Blitz!" I said. "Solar Beam!" Celina replied. Our Pokémon prepared their attacks and were ready to collide to each other, but all of a sudden... a random attack had come from above and hit both Pokémon; stopping their attacks. "What the!?" said Celina and I in shock.
"Row!" screeched a voice. "What was that?" said Pat as the group got up and ran to us. Dragonfire and Venusaur shook off the pain and began looking up at the sky; wondering who had done this. "Row!" screeched the voice again. My Nidoran's ears had twitched to the sound, and he looked up at the sky; seeing what was up there. "Ran! Nidoran!" he said. "Huh? What's up, Nidoran?" I asked him. He jumped up and motioned me to look up at the sky. I looked up and saw what he saw; seeing a group of Pokémon begin to descend very quickly. "Heads up!" I said to the group. They all looked up, saw what we saw, and then we all got out of the way from the attacks. The wild Pokémon flew back up to the sky again, and looked down at us; ready to strike us again. "What are those things?" said Sora. I took out my phone and activated my PokéDex. "Fearow, the Beak Pokémon. A Normal and Flying type, and the evolved form of Spearow. Its large, powerful wings allow it to fly for an entire day. The crushing power of its beak is tremendous." said my PokéDex. "Yeah... and they look angry." Pat replied. "Not if we can stop them!" Zach replied. "Squirtle!" Zach's Squirtle replied. "Are you nuts!?" Pat replied. "Nope. 'Cause Squirtle and I have the one move that can take them down." Zach replied.
After he said that, the Fearow then began to quickly descend again; aiming at us. "Squirtle, use Ice Beam!" said Zach. "Squirtle!" Zach's Squirtle replied as it used the attack. The lead Fearow saw the attack coming its way, dodged the attack, and warned its allies of it. They dodged it too, and then used Brave Bird on most of our Pokémon; pushing them away. We looked at them in shock as they did this, and we ran to our Pokémon; checking for any injuries. Zuzu stood up with her Vulpix held in her arms, looked around, and saw the lead Fearow flying towards her; ready to attack. "Fear-ow!" it said. Zuzu screamed as it came close, but was saved by Dragonfire. He held the Fearow by his wings; preventing it from attacking. Dragonfire growled loudly at the Fearow, and Fearow screeched back at him. He then released the Fearow and watched it back away for now. He roared at it; telling it to stay away from him and his friends. The lead Fearow screeched back at him furiously; not caring about his response. It called on its allies again, and then they began to use Brave Bird again. As they descended, a Electric type move came out of nowhere; zapping the Fearow.
"Huh? What was that?" said Celina. "Tay? Did your Pikachu do that?" Zach asked me as he turned to me. Tetrax and I shook our heads no to his response. "Then who did?" he replied. "Hey! You guys get out of there, now! This area is too dangerous!" said a voice. We turned around and saw a male Trainer standing nearby with a Pokémon on his shoulder. The Fearow screeched at him and then began to try to attack him. "Raichu, use Thunder!" said the Trainer. "Rai-Rai! Rai-chu!" Raichu replied as it used the attack; zapping the group of Fearow. They screeched in pain and then began to fly away from the area. Raichu landed back on the ground, and ran back to its Trainer. "Great job, Raichu." said the Trainer. "Raichu." Raichu replied happily. The Trainer lightly smiled at his Pokémon, and then saw all of us walk upto him. "You kids alright?" he asked us. "Yeah... we're okay. Thank you for saving us." Celina replied. "You're welcome. Now come on, let's get you all out of here before they come back and hurt anyone else." he said. We nodded our heads in agreement and began leaving the area with him. As we left, Sora and Celina began to recognize the person that helped us.
"Wait... who are you?" Pat asked him. "Me? My name is-" the Trainer replied. "Declan!" said Celina and Sora in a surprised tone. Declan blinked his eyes and looked at the two Trainers. "Yes?" he said. "You know him?" Zach asked them. "Yeah! Everyone, this is Declan Akaba! He is the only son of Leo and Henrietta Akaba, and is one of the top students at the Academy!" Sora replied. Declan blinked his eyes, put down his hood, and adjusted his glasses before looking at us. "It's nice to meet you all." he said. "It's nice to meet you too." I replied. He lightly smiled at us after my response. "So, Declan? What are you doing around here? I thought that you had to help your parents with something in Fuchsia City?" Celina asked him. "I was... but my Father had sent me out here to look for you and Sora. When I came here, I saw you two with them." he replied. "That means that you saw the battle that I had with her?" she replied as she pointed her thumb at me. He nodded his head yes to her question; surprising us. "I'll tell you what I thought about it later, but now we need to get all your Pokémon healed up." he said. "Okay." she replied. After that, we all went back to the Viridian City Pokémon Center.
Viridian City Pokémon Center- 30 minutes later
"There we go. Your Pokémon should be fully healed and ready to go." said Nurse Joy. "Thank you very much, Nurse Joy." I replied as Tetrax and Hurricane got onto my shoulders and my Nidoran jumped into my arms. "You're very welcome." she replied. I smiled in thanks and walked back to the group with my Pokémon. As I took one more step, I heard the door open. I turned around and saw a Trainer run inside with a injured Pokémon in their arms. "Please! Someone help!" said the Trainer. "What happened?" Nurse Joy replied. "It's those wild Fearow on Route 22. They've injured my Mankey." the Trainer replied. "Those Fearow again! This is the tenth incident with those Fearow in the last week." Nurse Joy replied. Once I heard that, my mind flashed back to our encounter with the Fearow. I remembered the furious looks they had on their faces, and the way they attacked us without mercy. I also remember the lead Fearow having a few battle scars on its body and only one eye. I guess that it lost its other eye in a battle before the encounter with us. The flashbacks stopped, and I watched Nurse Joy and her Chansey take the Mankey away; preparing to heal it. "So... these Fearow are well known around here. But how did this all start? When did these Fearow start attacking people and their Pokémon?" I said in my thoughts. Deep inside my heart, I wanted to solve this problem, but I want to do it without hurting anybody.
"Yo! Earth to Taylor!" said a voice. I snapped back into reality, turned around, and saw my group looking at me. "You okay?" Celina asked me. I blinked my eyes and nodded my head yes to her. I walked back to the group and sat down with them. "You heard what Nurse Joy just said, didn't you?" Declan asked me. "Yeah. Apparently this is the tenth incident with those Fearow in the last week. Looks like this area has been having problems with them for a long time. I just wonder how did this all start? What caused these Fearow to act so violent?" I replied. "Maybe they're just trying to protect their nests around here?" Zuzu replied curiously. "Protect them from what? Poachers?" I replied. "Mhm. Or maybe just the area in general." she replied. "If they were doing that, there would've been signs in the area telling people to stay away. Someone in this area has to know exactly what is going on with those Fearow." Declan replied. Zuzu and I nodded our heads in agreement to his answer. "Do you think your Dad knows?" Sora asked him. "Hm..? Maybe? He is the only one that I know of that is familiar with this area." he replied. "Then let's try calling him!" Sora replied happily. "But what if he is busy? Then who do we call? Taylor's brother?" Celina replied. "Oh yeah! I'm sure that her brother would know how to stop them. He is the Champion after all!" Pat replied.
Declan thought about his answer for a moment as everyone talked, and then looked at me; seeing a serious, determined look in my eyes. To him, it reminded him of someone he had met on his journey. A person that he would consider to be his rival. "Declan?" said Zuzu. He blinked his eyes, shook his head, and turned to Zuzu; seeing a curious look on her face. "You okay?" she asked him. "Ah... yes. I'm fine. I was just... lost in thought for a moment." he replied. "About what?" she replied. He tried to think of what to say, but then he saw me quickly turn around; looking at someone. "Excuse me? Did you kids also have to deal with those Fearow?" said the person. "Yes? I assume that you have dealt with them too?" I replied as I stood up. "I have. They have been causing trouble around here for about ten years now." the person replied. "Ten years!?" I replied in shock. The person nodded their head yes to me; confirming their answer. "Oh! My apologies... I am Tetsu Trudge, the Mayor of Viridian City." he said. "And I am Taylor, a new Trainer from Pallet Town. Nice to meet you, Mr. Mayor." I replied as I shook his hand.
"A new Trainer from Pallet Town, eh? I see... so you must know of the Gym Leader that resides here from your town?" he replied. "You mean Blue? Yeah. I know of him. He was the former Champion of Kanto... until he lost to my brother." I replied. "Your brother? Ah! So you are the Champion's little sister, aren't you?" he replied. "Yes sir." I replied. "Well, it's nice to formally meet you, Taylor. I apologize for bringing up your brother's title to you. I've heard from our Gym Leader that you really don't like being called: The Champion's Sister." he replied. "It's okay... I have been dealing with that nickname for five years now. I'm pretty much used to it at this point." I replied. It's true though. That is how I'm mostly know throughout the Region, and at School. The only ones who don't call me that nickname are my friends and family. Everytime someone calls me by that nickname, it makes me mad and upset because they all expect me to live up to my brother's expectations. And I honestly don't know if I can truly live up too that. To me, I want to go on this journey to not only be a great Trainer... I want to make my own legacy. I want to be known as myself... not by the nickname the world has given me.
"Excuse me, Mr. Mayor?" said Declan as he and the group walked upto us. We turned around and saw them looking at us; wondering what they are doing. "Yes, young lad?" Mayor Trudge replied. "We apologize for interrupting your conversation... but you said that you and the City have been dealing with these Fearow for quite a long time. Do you know how it all started?" Declan replied. "Yes. I do. Come with me to my office at City Hall. I will explain everything to you all there." Mayor Trudge replied. After that, we followed his lead and went to City Hall. As we walked... Zach, Zuzu, and Celina noticed the slight sad look on my face; knowing that the nickname was bothering me. They gave me a couple, gentle pats on the back; comforting me. I looked at them and lightly smiled in thanks; making them do the same.
Viridian City Hall- Mayor's Office
"Ten years ago... there were reports of a group of kids around your age that were recklessly setting things on fire with a Magmar in the area. Little did they know that they had set fire to a big nesting area that both Spearow and Fearow naturally live in. Once they saw many Spearow flying away from the flames and noticed what they had done, a group of Fearow had appeared and began attacking them for what they had done. It took them a bit to get them away from them... but the battle had a painful cost." said Mayor Trudge. "And that would be?" Zach asked. "...After the flames were put out by the fire department, we found out that there were many other Spearow and Fearow that didn't survive the fire." Mayor Trudge replied in a sad tone. Our eyes widened in shock to his response. "Ever since then... that group of Fearow have held a vengeful grudge against all people and Pokémon. Everyone that had set foot onto that area on Route 22 had to deal with the painful encounters with them; especially if they were from outside the City. In their eyes... they will keep on fighting until the day they take their last breath." he replied.
"And what about that one Fearow? Did something happen to its eye?" Celina asked him. "You mean the leader of the group? It lost its eye during a battle with a different Trainer and their Rhydon a few years ago. The Rhydon's horn got into Fearow's eye by accident, and it caused it to go into a extreme rage." he replied. "So it lost its eye forever after that?" she replied. He nodded his head yes to her question. "What about the Trainers that caused the fire? What happened to them?" Zuzu asked him. "They were charged with arson and reckless endangerment, and we had to revoke their Trainer licenses. In order to get them back, they had to do community service until they turned 18." he replied. "And as for the Magmar... did they have to release it back to the wild?" Declan asked him. He nodded his head yes to his question. "Those poor Fearow... they lost everything because of a group of Trainers and a Magmar recklessly burnt down their homes. And it took away all their family members. Now I can see why they attacked us. They didn't want us to make the same mistake those Trainers did back then. They were doing what they thought was right." said Sora in a sad tone. All of us sadly nodded our heads in agreement to his response. I lowered my head, looked away from everyone, and clutched my right hand into a fist; feeling upset for them.
We thanked him for telling us what we needed to know, and then left his office. As we walked outside, Aurasoul noticed that I was feeling down. He gently wrapped his arm around my arm while making a calm, assuring sound to me. I looked down at him and saw a worried look in his eyes; knowing that he is concerned of my feelings right now. I gently put my hand on his paw and gave it a gentle pat; comforting our senses. We lightly smiled at each other, and looked back at our group that was walking ahead of us. I then looked up at the sky and saw something fly pretty low. I stopped walking and stared at the object for a few more seconds, and then saw what it was. "It's them... the Fearow..." I said to myself. All five of my Pokémon looked up and saw them too; wondering why they are flying pretty low. The Fearow looked down to the city grounds, and saw me and my group walking around the City. The lead Fearow stared at us angrily from above, and then screeched to its allies; telling them to form up and strike. They screeched to their leader's command, and began to quickly descend towards us.
"Guys! Look out!" I said. The group turned to me; wondering what was going on, and then they heard the screeches from above. They looked up and saw the group of Fearow coming down at us; ready to strike. We all got out of the way in the nick of time from their attack. They then flew back up and went to their leader; seeing the look of pure rage in its eye. "What the!? It's those Fearow again!" said Pat in shock. "What are they doing here?" Sora asked the group. "I think that they want to fight us again." Celina replied. "But we can't fight them here... a lot of things can get destroyed if we do that." Pat replied. "He's right. If we fight them here, a lot of people and their homes would be in extreme danger. We need to get them away from the City." Declan replied. "How are we going to do that without attacking?" Pat replied. Before Declan could respond, the Fearow began to quickly descend to us again. "Brace for impact!" he told us. We were ready to face the hit, but all of a sudden... a Flamethrower had stopped the attack and made the Fearow quickly retreat. "Huh? They stopped? But who-" Celina asked.
Before anyone could respond, Dragonfire flew upto the sky and roared at the Fearow; telling them to get out of the City. The lead Fearow screeched angrily at him and then it and its group began flying back to Route 22. Dragonfire growled angrily at them for quickly running away, and then looked at me, Tetrax, Aurasoul, Hurricane, and Nidoran on his back; wondering what to do next. Once he saw a serious, determined look in my eyes... he nodded his head to me, and we began flying after them. "Hey! Taylor! Where are you going!?" Pat yelled as the group watched us fly away. "She's going after them." Zach replied. "By herself!? Is she out of her mind?" Pat replied. "Yeah! She's going to get herself killed if she fights them alone!" Sora replied. "She's not going alone." Zuzu replied. "Huh?" Pat and Sora replied curiously. "She's got all of us to help her out. Now come on! Keep your eyes to the sky and follow them!" Zuzu replied. The group nodded their heads in agreement, and began following me.
Route 22
"Fearow!" screeched the Fearow as they flew. Dragonfire roared at them as we chased them. I stared them down with an intense glare; watching every move that they made. As they got close, Tetrax let out a Thunderbolt or two to keep them at bay. "Good job, buddy." I said to him. "Pikachu." he replied. We flew for a couple more minutes, and then we saw them begin to fly down to an open forest area. We followed their lead and gently landed on the grass. I got off Dragonfire's back, walked a couple steps, and then saw the Fearow slowly descend to me. I kept my team back so that they don't provoke them. "Ni-do..." said Nidoran in a nervous tone. "Just stay back, guys. I know how to do this without fighting them." I replied. My team blinked their eyes, looked at each other curiously and nervously, turned back to me, and nodded their heads in understanding. I lightly smiled at them, turned away, and took a few more steps towards the Fearow. "So... this is where you all live?" I said. "Row!" the lead Fearow replied angrily. I looked up at the trees that still stood tall from the wildfire; knowing now that these trees is where they had their families. "This is all you have left. The scorched and fallen trees... the memories of the flocks that once graced this nesting ground that you all called home." I replied. The group of Fearow nodded their heads yes to my response. I looked at their faces as they gently landed on the grass; watching every move that I made.
"I may not truly understand the pain that you all went through... but when I heard the whole truth of what happened to you... it made my heart break for you. To see a peaceful place that has lasted many generations for you and your families... taken away in a uncontrollable wildfire by reckless Trainers who never respected your land... it made me feel a lot of pain for you. I can tell that those memories are still playing in your heads, and they make you angry at any human that steps on or near your land. The anger that grew inside your hearts... turned into vengeance. You all had sworn to yourselves to avenge your fallen loved ones by attacking every human and their Pokémon." I said. The Fearow nodded their heads yes to my words; understanding what I was saying. "But do you realize that vengeance never really solves anything? The innocent people and Pokémon that you attack and injure... do you think that's something your flocks would want you to do in honor of them?" I replied. They blinked their eyes in shock, and then looked at each other; wondering if what they are doing is wrong. "Your loved ones would want you to honor them by finding a new nesting ground, new mates, and start families with them; while keeping the traditions and legacies of your families alive. They never want to see you blaming yourselves for their loss. The people who had done this to your land have been brought to justice, and have learned their lesson. If you would've seen that yourselves, you would've been happy that they were avenged this way... but with your minds and hearts being so clouded by anger and vengeance... you have truly pushed them away from you." I replied.
The allies of the lead Fearow were shocked by my words, and then they began to mentally question themselves. Was all this fighting truly worth it? Did they truly honor the memories of their friends and families by fighting many innocent people and Pokémon? The lead Fearow saw the looks on their faces, and began to screech at them; telling them not to listen to me. As they debated... Zach, Pat, and everyone else appeared behind the trees and bushes; watching to see what happens next. The lead Fearow's allies looked at me and their leader a few more times, and then one of them gently flew over to my side. It turned to its allies and told them that I was right about what I had said. Once they heard their friend's response... they decided to follow its lead and join my side; leaving the lead Fearow furious. It screeched loudly at all of us and flew up in the air; ready to fight. I stared it down as it flapped its wings and used Brave Bird at its former allies. As I watched, a sudden click in my mind went off, and I jumped in the way of the Fearow; holding the wings of the aggressive leader. "Taylor!" screamed Zach, Pat, Zuzu, Celina, and Sora worriedly.
All of the Pokémon around us looked at me in shock; wondering how can a human this young stop a Fearow's attack. We stared at each other angrily for a moment, and then the strength of Fearow's power began to increase. "Fear-ow!" it said as it pushed me away from it with brute force; knocking me into a couple trees. "Pika!" said Tetrax in a worried tone. My Pokémon and the other Fearow ran over to me and tried to see if I was okay. I slowly sat up and gently put my right hand on my head; hoping that I don't have a concussion. "Pika-pi?" Tetrax asked me. I didn't respond right away after that. The Pokémon looked at me worriedly and then heard a loud screech. They looked up and saw the aggressive Fearow looking down at them. It screeched again, made its wings glow white and look sharper, and began to descend towards me. My Pokémon huddled around me to keep me safe and stared angrily at the incoming attack. Once it got close, the other Fearow flew up and ambushed their former leader with a bunch of Wing Attacks and Drill Pecks; pushing it back from us. As it went back up in the air, they screeched loudly at it; telling it to stop its assault and leave the area. It screeched back angrily at them and then the group of Fearow began to fight each other in mid air.
"Taylor!" said Declan as he and the group ran over to me. I opened my eyes and saw him and the others looking at me. "You okay?" Celina asked me as she and Zach put my arms around their shoulders and helped me stand up. "I... I think so..?" I replied. "You sure? You're looking pretty woozy from that hit." Zach replied. "Yeah... that attack was painful to watch." Sora replied. I blinked my eyes and lightly shook my head in pain. "Fearow!" said one of the Fearow. We all looked up and saw that the group of Fearow fall from the sky and crash down in front of us; standing no match against their former leader. They slowly stood back up and looked up at the aggressive look in the lead Fearow's eye. "No way... they don't stand a chance against that Fearow... what do we do now?" Pat asked us. "We help them out. Raichu, you ready?" Declan replied. "Rai-Rai!" Raichu replied. He jumped off Declan's shoulder and stood by Tetrax; ready to fight. He then turned to the rest of our group's Pokémon and asked them to join his side. They all nodded their heads in agreement and stood by us; ready to fight. My Pokémon and the other Fearow lightly smiled at them and nodded their heads in thanks; proud of the help they are receiving.
"Vulpix and I will stay down here with Tay and Venusaur. You all join with the Fearow and take down that violent bird." said Zuzu as the others got onto Fearow's backs. "You got it." Celina replied. Zuzu nodded her head to them and watched the group take off to the sky; ready to fight. She and Celina's Venusaur then turned to me as I sat down on the grass; trying to fight the pain. "Vul-pix." said Vulpix in a sad tone. I looked down at Vulpix and showed a little smile. "Don't worry about me, Vulpix. I'll be okay. I promise." I said in a soft tone. "Vul..." Vulpix replied sadly; getting more worried about me. Zuzu knelt down in front of me, took out a little napkin and tweezers, and began cleaning my face; getting dirt, blood, and little bits of wood out of my face. "Stay still. I promise that this will be quick." she said. I blinked my eyes and nodded my head in understanding. "You know what you did was dangerous, right? That Fearow literally could've killed you." she said. "I know... but what was I supposed to do? Let that Fearow take away the lives of those Fearow and leave a bad presence on me?" I replied.
She was surprised of my response, and then went silent for a moment. "If there is one thing that you know about me very well... it's that I always put the feelings and well-beings of others first before myself. Remember the times that I risked myself getting beaten up by Sylvio's group back at school? I did that because you and our group mean so much to me. You guys have always been there for me whenever I felt down and had helped me in many problems that I was stuck in. So, I had to do what a best friend should do in return... and that is to help you whenever a problem comes your way, defend you from anyone who would want to hurt you, and to always be with you in every moment; whether it is good or bad. Every moment that I spend with you and our group is something that I will always cherish until the end of time. And I want to make sure that before my time in this world ends, that I leave a positive impact on all of you. That's the person that I am... and want to be for the rest of my life." I said. Zuzu, Vulpix, and Venusaur were touched by my response, and then smiled at me warmly. Zuzu and Vulpix had tears in their eyes as they smiled; seeing the loyal, kind-hearted side of me truly show.
"Tay... you have always done everything for us to make us happy. You always knew how to keep our spirits up when we feel down, and have always supported us in whatever we do. You have always been a big inspiration for us. Not only as a friend... but as a role model. You mean so much to us, Tay... more than you ever know." said Zuzu. I blinked my eyes and smiled warmly at her; making her happy. She smiled back and then we heard a scream in the sky. We looked up and saw the group and the Fearow struggling with the aggressive Fearow. Zuzu and Vulpix walked upto Venusaur and stood by it; ready for what happens next. "Just stay there and rest, Taylor. We can take care of this." she said. "Vul!" Vulpix replied. "Venu-saur!" Venusaur replied; ready to fight. I stared at the sky for a little longer and saw how much everyone was struggling. The lead Fearow had found ways to strike our group from behind and bring them down nearly to the ground. Once I saw them and my Pokémon get hit... I felt something in my mind take over me. I lowered my head, closed my eyes, and felt a mysterious power flowing through me. Under my glove, my mark began to glow; ready to unleash my powers.
"Squirtle, Ice Beam! Pidgey, Gust!" said Zach. Squirtle and Pidgey used their attacks at the Fearow and watched it get hit by Ice Beam and dodge Gust. Pidgey went back to Zach and sat on his shoulder; watching its foe closely. "Bulbasaur, Bullet Seed! Rattata, Swift!" said Pat. Bulbasaur and Rattata used their attacks and hit the Fearow successfully. "Yes!" Pat replied happily. "Don't celebrate yet. Look." Declan replied. The group looked and saw that Fearow was beginning to use Brave Bird again. "Here it comes!" said Celina. The Fearow used the attack again, but instead of hitting them... it went flying down to the ground. "Oh no!" most of the group yelled in a worried tone. They then went to chase the Fearow; seeing it aim at Zuzu and Venusaur. "Zuzu! Look out!" Celina yelled. Zuzu looked up and saw the Fearow coming towards her. She screamed in shock as it was quickly descending. Once I heard her scream, I quickly lifted my head up, opened my eyes as they began to glow green, stood up, and charged at Fearow. When it got close, I stopped it with a Thunder Punch; knocking it away from her. "Fearow!" it yelled as it was knocked back.
The group got back to the ground, saw my Pokémon fly down, and looked at Zuzu and I; staring at me in shock. "Whoa... how did she do that?" said Sora. "I don't know..?" Pat replied. Zuzu opened her eyes and saw me standing tall in front of her; defending her from Fearow. I slowly turned my head to her and her eyes widened in shock; seeing my glowing green eyes for the first time. "...Taylor? Is that really you?" she asked me. I nodded my head yes to her and turned back to the Fearow; seeing the violent glare in its eye. Fearow screeched loudly at me, flew up high, and used Brave Bird again. I clutched my fists tightly and surrounded them in light blue electricity. As I did that, my glove had mysteriously disappeared and my mark was revealed before the electricity hid it. "Fear-!" said Fearow as it came closer to me. I got into a battle stance, raised my right fist, and punched it down to the ground; sending a stream of the electricity through it and towards Fearow. Once it saw the oncoming attack, its eye widened in shock to see it coming. A couple seconds later, Fearow was hit by the attack. As it was hit, the attack sounded like a giant clap of thunder. It screeched loudly in pain from it, and then it finally fell down to the ground in defeat.
The electricity disappeared a few seconds later, and we all stared at the fallen Fearow. Everyone around me was completely shocked of what just happened; wondering how I did this. I blinked my eyes and began walking upto the defeated Fearow. "What is she doing?" Zach asked. "She's making sure that it's over." Declan replied. As I walked, the group of Fearow gently flew over and circled around their old friend; hoping to see its grudge finally end. I stood in front of the Fearow, put my right hand out to it, and made my mark glow; healing its wounds. The Fearow around me were curious of what I was up too as I did this, and began talking amongst themselves; hoping that I am helping their old friend. I stopped using my powers a few seconds later, and then we saw the Fearow wake up and slowly get back on its feet. It looked at me silently for a moment, and then made a calm sound to me, as if it was saying that it was sorry for what it had done to us. The group of Fearow around me then screeched happily and reunited with their old friend. The group lightly smiled at them as they reunited, and then we watched them fly away from the area.
"It's all over. They're going to start a brand new life and one day have families again. Now the Route and City can live in peace." said Celina as she and the others walked over to Zuzu. "Yeah. And now innocent people and Pokémon won't get injured by them anymore." Sora replied. The group nodded their heads in agreement and then looked at me; seeing me standing still. "Hey, Tay! The battle's over! We won!" said Pat. I slowly turned around to the group, blinked my eyes, and then all of a sudden... I collapsed to the ground and passed out. "Tay!" said Zach, Zuzu, and Celina worriedly. "Pika-pi!" Tetrax replied worriedly. Everyone ran over to me and looked down at me; seeing that my powers were gone, and that my glove had returned. "What... what just happened? She looked like she was fine a minute ago?" said Sora. Zach knelt down to me and picked me up in his arms. He stood up and looked at me silently; wondering how did this happen to me. "Tay... what happened to you?" he said to himself. Before anyone could say a word, the sound of thunder came out of nowhere in the sky. The group looked up and saw that the clouds had turned a darker gray; confirming a thunderstorm is approaching. "Come on. Let's head back to the Pokémon Center. We can call the Mayor there and tell him what had happened here." said Declan. "Right." the group replied. After that, we all made our way to the Pokémon Center.
Viridian City- Pokémon Center
We got inside the Pokémon Center and Nurse Joy turned around at her desk; seeing all of us had returned. As she looked at us... Zach and Pat had recognized someone there looking at us with her. "Blue!" they said surprised. "Zach!" he replied. He ran over to us and saw a couple scratch marks on his face. "Are you okay? I heard from the Mayor that you fought with those wild Fearow. Did they hurt you?" he asked him. "Nah... I'm fine. But..." Zach replied as he looked down at me. Blue blinked his eyes and saw me for the first time; looking at me in shock. "What happened to her?" he asked. "I... I..." Zach replied in a sad tone. Blue was stunned by his response. He blinked his eyes, looked at our group for a couple seconds, and then back to Zach and I. "Zach... give her to me. I'll take her to the hospital. You stay here with your friends, and make sure that all the Pokémon you have here are fully healed." he said. "But... Blue..." Zach replied. "She'll be safe with me. I promise. I won't leave her side until she wakes up. And when she does... that's when I'll call you to come see her." he replied. Zach blinked his eyes, thought about it for a moment, and then nodded his head in understanding to him. "Okay. You promise to call me when she wakes up?" he asked him. "Cross my heart." Blue replied.
He then gave me to him and took a couple steps back; standing by Declan and Celina. Blue nodded his head to the group, and then walked outside with me. When he stood outside, he took out one PokéBall, threw it in the air, and it opened; revealing one of his Pokémon. "Okay, Arcanine. We need to head to the hospital, fast." he said as he hopped on Arcanine's back. Arcanine barked in understanding, and then we ran to the hospital. After getting me inside the emergency room and with a couple doctors, Blue took out his phone and called my Mom; letting her know that I am here.
Viridian City Hospital
"...Taylor? Sweetheart?" said a voice. My eyes lightly twitched at the sound, and I slowly opened my eyes; seeing my Mom and Blue for the first time. "...Mom?" I said softly and curiously. She smiled warmly at me with tears in her eyes and held my hand in hers. "Hi, sweetheart." she said. "How did you get here?" I asked her. "You can thank me for that, Tay." Blue replied. I looked at him and saw a light smile on his face; happy to see me awake. "Hi, Blue." I said. "How are you feeling, kiddo?" he replied. "Tired. But... I don't remember how I ended up here." I replied. "You don't remember how?" he replied. I nodded my head yes to his question. "Huh..? That's... interesting. Well, whatever it was that got you exhausted... I'm glad that it didn't get you seriously injured. If that happened, I would've had to hear an earful from your brother. Even when he's defending his title... he's always thinking about you and wishing that he spent more time at home with you... especially after what happened 5 years ago." he replied. "Yeah." I replied.
I sat up on my own and looked around the room; wondering how long have I been in here. I then looked down at my left arm and saw that my bandage was removed and my bite mark was healed. My eyes widened in shock to it, and then I stood up and looked at my reflection on the mirror; seeing that all my wounds were perfectly healed. As I stared at my reflection, I began to remember everything that had happened before I was brought here. When I remembered using my powers, that's when my mind suddenly clicked. My powers must have healed all of the wounds that I received when I passed out! I looked down at my right hand and took of my glove; looking at my mark. "No way..." I said softly to myself. "Something wrong, Taylor?" my Mom asked me. I blinked my eyes, turned to her and Blue, and showed them the mark. "Your mark? What about it?" Blue asked me. Once my Mom heard Blue say that, she slowly stood up and walked over to me as I put my hat back on and turned it backwards. "Taylor..? You used your powers, didn't you?" she asked me. "Huh!?" Blue replied in a surprised tone.
I blinked my eyes and nodded my head yes to her. "When did you use them?" she asked. "When I was fighting with Fearow. I was watching it attack my friends and its allies. Once I saw them get hit by Fearow's wings and beak... I felt something click in my mind; telling me to use my powers to help them. I'm sorry, Mom... but I had to use my powers in order to save them." I replied. "You didn't lose control of yourself when you used them?" she replied. I nodded my head yes to her; confirming her answer. She blinked her eyes, sighed, and put her hand on my shoulder; making me look at her. "I think I know why you passed out. After you used your powers... the stress and trauma of using them in the past had made you quickly exhausted; repressing your mind and body from using them. And when you use them... you strain yourself and pass out." she said. "Is that true?" Blue asked us as he walked over to us. She turned to him and nodded her head yes to him. "So that's why she couldn't remember at first. The physical and mental strain for her when she uses them fogs up her memories for quite some time until she's fully healed." he replied. "That's right." she replied.
A couple minutes had passed, and then a doctor walked into the room; seeing me standing up and looking better. We talked for a couple more minutes and then I was released from the hospital. The three of us walked outside and looked up at the sky; seeing that the thunderstorm had passed. "Thank goodness. That storm has finally passed." said my Mom. "Yeah. I bet a lot of Trainers with Water type Pokémon would've loved playing in the rain." Blue replied. "Like your Blastoise?" she asked him. "Haha! Yeah. Blastoise would've loved relaxing in the rain. But once the lightning strikes... he would stay in his shell until its safe." he replied. We smiled warmly at each other and began walking to the Pokémon Center. As we walked, I looked up at the sky and saw that a rainbow had appeared. "Whoa... a rainbow..." I said softly to myself. As I looked at the rainbow, I saw something fly in the sky; making the rainbow itself. "What is that?" I said to myself. The creature looked bird-like, and it had wings that were glowing in seven colors; making the rainbow from behind it. The creature flew away silently and gracefully from my sight a few seconds later. I was in awe as I saw it fly away; wanting to see where it would go and wanting to see it again.
As it flew away, something began to fall from the sky. I stopped walking and watched the object gracefully float down. After about a minute, the object gently landed down on the ground in front of my feet. I knelt down and picked it up; seeing the item glow in seven colors. I stared at it for a moment as it glew, and then I put it inside my hidden pocket in my jacket to keep it safe. After that, I caught up with my Mom and Blue. As I ran upto them, they wondered why I was far behind. I told them that I was staring at the rainbow and watched it disappear; while keeping the item and creature a secret. They accepted my answer, and we kept on walking to the Center. When we were a block away, we heard a loud, happy roar nearby. "Huh? What was that?" said Blue. We looked out to the Center and saw the group and my Pokémon outside. My team looked around for a few seconds, saw us, and began running towards us. I stepped out of the small group and saw Dragonfire quickly fly towards me happily.
"Hi, Dragonfire!" I said happily. He roared happily and grabbed me in his arms; hugging me happily in the air. I hugged him back and gently petted him; making him happy. He then flew back down to the ground and let me go from the hug. After letting me go; Tetrax, Aurasoul, Hurricane, and my Nidoran gave me little hugs. I smiled back at them and gave them hugs and pats; happy to see them again. "They sure did miss you, huh Tay?" Blue asked me. "They sure did." I replied as Hurricane and Tetrax sat on my shoulders and Nidoran was held in my arms. We smiled warmly at each other, and then my Mom got a good look at my two new Pokémon for the very first time. "I see that you found a couple new friends?" she asked me. "Yep. Mom, I would like you to meet Hurricane and Nidoran." I replied. "Pidgey." greeted Hurricane. "Ni-do." greeted Nidoran. "It's nice to meet the both of you, Hurricane and Nidoran. I hope that my daughter and her Pokémon are treating you very well." my Mom replied. They nodded their heads yes to her response and looked at me happily; making me happy.
"Hey... I just noticed that Nidoran is colored blue. Could it be that you actually caught a Shiny Pokémon?" said Blue. "A Shiny Pokémon?" I replied curiously. "Mhm. Shiny Pokémon are specific Pokémon with different coloration to what is usual for its species. They can differ in color from their normal counterparts very little or very much. Some Pokémon, such as Glaceon or Pichu, have a Shiny coloration only a few shades darker or lighter in color. Conversely, some Pokémon, such as Caterpie, have dramatic differences in color." he replied. "Oh wow... that's interesting. Are Shinies easy to find?" I replied. "Nope. They are very hard to find in the wild and by breeding. But... I've heard rumors that if you are given a special Charm from someone... the chances of finding Shinies are increased." he replied. "Whoa..." I replied. "Now hold on a second. How are people supposedly getting this Charm?" my Mom asked. "I don't know? I've only heard that from Leaf. Someone apparently gave her a set of Charms when she and Red were on their journey. They thought they were some kind of weird items, so she gave them to Red to keep; hoping he can find out what they are and what they do. When he was taking a break from League Battles, he found out what the Charms are. The Oval Charm is a Charm that increases the chances of finding a Egg at the Pokémon Daycare or Nursery. The Catching Charm increases the chances of getting a critical capture. The Exp. Charm increases the experience of the Trainer's team. The Mark Charm increases the odds of finding a Pokémon with a Mark. And the Shiny Charm. It increases the odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon out in the wild or breeding." he replied.
"Whoa..." I said in awe. I looked down at Nidoran as he looked up at me. "Ni-do!" he said happily. I smiled at him happily and gave him a gentle hug; making him blush happily. As I did that, my Mom looked inside my Bag and noticed something inside it. "Hm? Mom? What are you doing to my Bag?" I asked her. "Just checking to see something... and I found this." she replied as she took out a item. "No way... that's the Shiny Charm! How did it end up in there?" said Blue in shock. "I don't know..?" my Mom replied. "I guess that's something we have to ask Red about later. Maybe he put in her Bag before she left for her journey?" he replied. "Maybe?" she replied. She closed my Bag and tied the Shiny Charm onto the zipper of my Bag. "There we go. Now you have a good luck Charm to look at before you battle." she said to me. "Heh, thanks Mom." I replied. We smiled warmly at each other for a few seconds, and then turned to Blue; seeing a warm smile on his face. "You caught a very special Nidoran there, Taylor." said Blue. "Thanks, Blue. And yeah... he is very special. I've never seen a male Nidoran that is blue before. When we first saw him on Route 22... we knew that he would be a perfect addition to our little family. He put up a good fight against Hurricane and I. He has a lot of potential to be a great battler, and I hope to help him reach his full potential one day." I replied. "Well, as long as you believe in him and your Pokémon... he will show his full potential to you." my Mom replied.
I nodded my head in understanding and looked down at Nidoran; seeing him look up at me happily. We smiled at each other happily and then we heard some footsteps run towards us. We looked to the Center and saw Zach, Pat, Zuzu, and everyone else run upto us. "Tay! You're okay!" said Pat happily. "Hey, guys." I replied happily. "How are you feeling, tough girl?" Celina asked me as she gave me a friendly punch on my arm. "I'm feeling good. All refreshed and ready to go." I replied. She and the group smiled happily to my response, and then all of a sudden... we heard a screech in the sky. We turned around and looked up at the sky; seeing something slowly fly towards us. "Hey..? Isn't that..?" said Sora. "One of the Fearow? What is it doing around here?" Declan replied. We watched the Fearow gently fly down to us and stand on the ground; looking at us. It blinked its eyes at us and ruffled its feathers happily. "Fearow." it said. "Hi, Fearow." Pat replied. It nodded its head happily to him, and then looked at Celina. Once it saw her, it made a happy sound to her and then flew over to her; nuzzling her happily. We were surprised of that for a moment, and then Celina petted its head happily.
"It seems to be pretty attached to you, Celina." said my Mom. "It does. I guess it wants to thank me and the rest of us for calming down its leader, right?" she replied. "Row!" Fearow replied happily. It nuzzled her happily again, and then suddenly... a PokéBall fell out of her Bag. "Uh oh. Something dropped." I said. "I got it." she replied. As she tried to pick it up, Fearow leaned down to it, and touched the button on it with its beak; making it activate. "Huh? Fearow? What are you doing?" Celina asked it as it did this. The PokéBall opened and begun the capture process on Fearow. It closed a few seconds later, shook one time, and made a dinging sound; confirming the capture. "Fearow has been registered to your PokéDex." said Celina's Phone. "What!?" said Pat, Sora, and Zuzu in shock. "It just let itself get caught..." Zach replied. "But... why?" I replied. "It wants to start a brand new life with Celina." Declan replied. "It does?" I replied curiously. He nodded his head yes to my question. "But why did it choose me?" Celina asked him. "It sees great potential in you. Ever since what happened to its leader, it saw you as the only one who can bring out its true, inner strength. It must've told its group that after we all left the area." he replied. Celina blinked her eyes, looked down at the PokéBall, and smiled warmly at it.
She gently threw it in the air, and we watched it open; seeing Fearow appear. "Fearow... I promise that I will take care of you. I hope that on our journey together, our bond will grow stronger day by day, and we become a powerful team. But most of all... I hope that we become very good friends." she said as she walked upto it and gently stroked its feathers. "Fearow!" Fearow replied happily. "Ni-do-ran!" Celina's Nidoran replied happily. Celina smiled happily and hugged her two Pokémon; making them happy. We smiled at them happily, and then we said our goodbyes to Blue and my Mom. They wished us luck on our journeys and then went back home.
Route 2- 30 minutes later
"So... you two had made your decision?" said Declan. Celina and Sora nodded their heads yes to him. "Yep. We're going to travel with Taylor, Zuzu, Zach, and Pat." Celina replied. "And we hope to learn many new things from them along the way." Sora replied. Declan lightly smiled at them; accepting their decision. He then looked at the four of us as we looked at him. "They are in good hands, Declan. We'll keep our eyes on them for you." said Zach. "That's great. I just hope that they won't be too much trouble for you all." Declan replied. "Nah... they won't be trouble at all. I can tell." Pat replied as he put his arm around Celina's shoulders. She was surprised of his action, and then shrugged his arm off her shoulders. "S-sorry." he apologized. "No, it's okay. I was just... surprised. That's all." she replied. "Oh? Okay?" he replied curiously. We were all confused for a moment, but then I decided to break the silence. "So, Declan? What are you planning to do now?" I asked him.
"Me? Well... I'm planning on traveling for a bit before heading back to the Academy. What about you? What's your plan from here?" he replied. "I'm heading to Pewter City to start my League Challenge." I replied. "League Challenge? I see... I guess that your goal here is to become the new Champion?" he replied. "Well... not exactly." I replied. "Hm?" he replied curiously. "Sure, becoming the new Champion would be nice and all... but... I decided to go on a journey to step out of my brother's shadow and become a Trainer in my own way. For five years, I've always been put into my brother's shadow; expected by everyone to grow up and be exactly like him. But that is something that I truly don't want to be. It's time for me to come out of the shell of expectations and walk on the path of self discovery. I want to see if I have what it takes to become a great Trainer that will inspire people to follow their dreams. And I know that I cannot do it alone. As long as I have my friends, family, and Pokémon by my side to support me... I know that dream will one day become a reality." I replied.
"Wow... that is a powerful dream that you have there, Taylor. I hope to see you accomplish your goals and achieve your dream one day. Like you said, with your friends, family, and Pokémon by your side to support and believe in you... that dream will become a reality. But if you also truly believe in yourself, the strength of that dream will never fade away." he replied. "Thank you, Declan." I replied with a warm smile. We shook hands for a moment, and then let go. Tetrax and Declan's Raichu gave each other a fist bump and high-fived with their tails; knowing that they will see each other again one day. We lightly smiled at our Pokémon after they did that, and then looked back at each other. "Well then. This is where we part ways. I hope to see you all again soon." he said. "And we hope to see you again soon. And if we do cross paths again, let's have a battle to see how much we have grown?" I replied. "You got it." he replied. After that, he waved to us goodbye and walked a few yards away from us. After a couple more steps, he took out a PokéBall, threw it in the air, and it opened; revealing his second Pokémon. "Whoa! What is that?" said Pat. "That is Corviknight." Sora replied. "Corviknight?" Zach replied as he took out his Phone. "Corviknight, the Raven Pokémon. This Pokémon reigns supreme in the skies of the Galar region. The black luster of its steel body could drive terror into the heart of any foe." said Zach's PokéDex.
Declan climbed onto his Corviknight's back and then we all watched them fly upto the sky and go towards their destination. "Wow... look how graceful it flies." said Zuzu. "Yeah. It's beautiful." Celina replied. We stared at the sky for a bit more, and then I had a mental flashback of the mysterious bird I saw flying with the rainbow and the item it dropped from the sky. Could they be rivals in the sky? Who would be the strongest of the two? Maybe I'll find out when I catch a Corviknight or that rainbow bird one day. The flashback ended and I snapped back to reality. I blinked my eyes, lightly smiled, and began walking with my Pokémon. "Huh? Tay? Where are you going?" Zach asked me. "Hm?" I replied as I turned back to him. "You're going ahead without us?" he replied. "No..? I thought that we already decided to head for Pewter City together?" I replied. "Oh..? I guess that you were doing a head start on walking?" he replied. I nodded my head yes to him; confirming my answer. "Well then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" said Zuzu happily. "Vul-pix!" Vulpix replied happily. "Yeah!" Sora and Pat cheered. I smiled at the group happily, and then we all began making our way to Pewter City; ready to see what it has in store for us.
Thank you so much for reading Chapter 2 of the story! I had a particular interesting time with writing the Fearow group's backstory. I didn't want to write them as rogue Pokémon that just battle everything for no reason. So when I thought of Route 22 for the setting... I thought about them and their loss of their flocks of Spearow and other Fearow. To me, since this is the first Route where you can catch Spearow of all things... I decided to give it a personal meaning to the Fearow that lived there.
Speaking of Pokémon that live on Route 22... what do you guys think of Taylor's Shiny Nidoran? I decided to make him Shiny because I wanted him to be something unique on her team that makes her different from her brother. While it is not known canonically if Red has encountered any Shiny Pokémon on his journey... I thought that this would be something to make him a little jealous of her for. As for Nidoran's attacks, he can use Poison Sting and Horn Attack for now. Hopefully he will learn a new move or two before the big Gym battle soon.
Now, if there is anything that ARC-V is known for... it is when the show brought alternate versions of some of our favorite characters of past series into the show! To the fans, they call these returning characters: Legacy Characters. It was a good concept, but it fell a little short because of how limited these characters were. We only had 2 major characters from both GX and 5D's series return and only 1 from ZEXAL, while having 0 from the DM series(which made me a little upset tbh). So, I decided to take advantage of the Legacy Character concept and kick it up a notch. Starting off with Tetsu Trudge from 5D's, a.k.a Ushio from the DM series! In this story, he is the Mayor of Viridian City and a former Officer there too. He decided to run for Mayor 10 years before the story had started, and won the election. To me... just to see him as Mayor is a very interesting concept. He will do anything to protect his City and everyone that lives there; making sure that their voices are heard and improve the City in the most positive way possible.
To all the ARC-V fans out there... I promise that I will try my hardest to give these Legacy Characters the love and respect they deserve. If there are any characters from DM, GX, 5D's, and ZEXAL that you want in the story as Legacy Characters, please let me know! The only characters that I can do are the main protagonists, their friends/allies, rivals, and some villains and side characters. The one thing I would need absolute help about this is what Pokémon are on their teams. Which ones suit their personalities and their battle styles? That is the only thing that I kindly request your help for.
Anyways, thank you so much for reading and have an awesome day!
Next time, Chapter 3: Strolling Through the Forest. The group travels to Viridian Forest and Taylor begins her training to prepare to face the Gym Leader of Pewter City. As she trains, the group asks her about the moment she used her powers against Fearow. How will she handle the question? Is she ready to tell them the truth about five years ago? Find out in Chapter 3! As the Journey continues ;)
