Courtney looked in the mirror at her dress.

It was a skin-tight white dress that tied around her neck and ended barely at her mid-thigh. Her midsection was see-through lace. Her shoes were white lace-up high heels.

She'd never worn anything like this but Heather and Bridgette persisted on it.

Her perfectly curled hair flowed down past her shoulders. Looking at herself, she kind of looked forward to going to the party.

But for some reason, she was anxious to see Duncan's reaction to her dress. She also knew Gwen was going to be there, so she also had to dress better than her.

Putting on her white chunky bracelet and her earrings she heard her phone ring.

Her heart jumped out of her chest as she picked up her phone to see Duncan text her.

Is he here? I haven't even got to put the perfume on or the body glitter!

She opened the phone prepared to tell him to give her a minute when she saw the text.

Duncan: hey we need to talk. And I'm on my way. I just left, should be there in 15 mins

Courtney just left it on seen, her mind rushing. What did he want to talk about? Did he and Gwen get together? She felt her stomach drop at the thought.

Wait. Courtney stop it. The whole point of this is for him to get Gwen back. Stop feeling weird.

Blaming it on her dislike for Gwen she shook off the feeling and pushing the lingering thoughts to the back of her she grabbed the body glitter then put on the perfume.

Suddenly a knock was on her bedroom door. Her heart dropped, not knowing who it was at the door.

"Courtney? You in there?" Her father called out.

"Yeah. Come in." Courtney answered relieved it wasn't Duncan.

Her dad walked in with a smile, but when he saw Her dress it fell. "what are you wearing? Where are you going?"

"I'm hanging out with Bridgette and Heather," Courtney said smoothing down her dress.

"Where are you going?" He asked again more firm.

"I'm going to a party," Courtney answered simply. She wasn't expecting her parents to be back so soon. So much for bringing a change of clothes.

"I don't know if I feel comfortable with you dressed like that. Or going to a party with uneducated childish hooligans." Her father crossed her arms.

"I'm just wearing a dress. And those same 'uneducated childish hooligans' are the same people I go to school with. And the same people that are in the world." Courtney said flatly.

"What are you trying to say?"

"That regardless I'm gonna be surrounded by them outside the party!" Courtney exclaimed annoyed.

"Doesn't mean you have to hang out with them in your free time. You should be doing something more productive like studying for the SATs, going to the gym, or studying for your classes. Maybe even go hang out with Justin."

"I already did that I want to go out with my friends!"

"Why are you guys raising your voices?" Courtney's mother came to the door.

"Look at Courtney, she wants to go to a party dressed like that. Instead of staying home and doing something productive for her future." Courtney's dad exclaimed.

Her mom looked her up and down with a shocked look on her face "why are you dressed like... that? What would Justin say?"

Courtney felt her blood boil. " who cares what he thinks. I'm dressing like this cause I want to."

"You don't need to dress to get attention, Courtney. You're disrespecting Justin and wasting valuable time that you can put into your future." Her father said folding her arms looking disapprovingly.

That's when something in her snapped. "Justin and I aren't together and I'm not wasting time. I'm just going out! I'm 17 and I have been working nonstop. I earned this break!" Courtney yelled with her voice cracking.

Her parents just stared in shock. Thankfully she heard a familiar car horn.

Quickly grabbing her purse she muttered about how her ride was here.

"Wait this conversation isn't over. We need to-"

Courtney just kept walking and slammed the front door.

She knew she'd get in trouble but right now she didn't want to think about that.

Going up to Duncan's black truck she got in and slammed the truck door.

Duncan furrowed his eyebrows "are you okay?"

"Yes just drive." She said not wanting to give her parents the opportunity for them to come up to the truck.

Complying with courtney he pulled out and been driving.

It was quiet in the truck. He got the mood that Courtney didn't want to talk but he needed to tell her something.

"So what did you want to tell me." Courtney folded her arms.

"What?" He asked. Did he accidentally talk out loud?

"The text messages? You said you wanted to talk." Courtney deadpanned.

"Oh right sorry." He said mentally slapping himself in the face.

"Well I didn't intend on anyone outside of school knowing about us dating, but my mom found out that we're dating." He said turning around the corner.

"What?! How did she find out?" Courtney exclaimed.

"Gwen told her at the store. And now she wants you to come over for dinner to meet my family and stuff." Duncan grimaced.

"Duncan- this wasn't a part of the plan!" Courtney again exclaimed.

"I know I'm sorry. It's not my fault she told her. I owe you one okay?" Duncan said in an apologetic tone.

"Fine."

Soon they pulled into the driveway of the air bnb that was near the outskirts of the country.

Courtney and Duncan got out of the truck. Courtney grabbed her purse and walked over to Duncan.

"You ready for the pole to come out your ass?" Duncan smirked at her before looking her up and down.

Looking over at him ready to insult him she saw his smirk fall. "What?"

"You look hot. Like really really hot." He said genuinely.

Courtney blushed " thanks. You look good though."

Duncan wore black jeans and a white tight shirt with white air forces and his famous spiked collar.

"Thanks, babe."

Walking in the house the first thing Courtney noticed was the loud music blasting in her ears. Then the smell of drugs, alcohol, sex, and hot bodies grinding against each other filled her nose.

Duncan wrapped his arm around her waist "how do you like it so far?"

"I don't like it at all." She rolled her eyes.

Duncan got out of the truck quickly texting Geoff and Alejandro that they just arrived at the house.

He heard Courtney's footsteps and started walking to the front door.

"You ready for the pole to come out your ass?" Duncan smirked at her. He then for the first time fully saw her outfit and he felt himself get excited and turned on at her outfit.

Turning to face him she looked at her confused. "What?"

"You look hot. Like really really hot." He said trying to find the right words. She looked more than that but that's the only word he could think of.

Courtney blushed " thanks. You look good though."

He felt his confidence boost up, he knew she'd like his outfit. "Thanks, babe."

Opening the door he saw the normal party scene, nothing special.

Looking at Courtney he inwardly smirked knowing she wasn't used to this type of scene.

Wrapping his arm around her waist he said the thing that popped up first in his mind. "how do you like it so far?"

"I don't like it at all." She rolled her eyes.

"You'll like it at least a little" he smirked pulling her a little closer. He felt proud to have her in his arms. She looked amazing and he knew guys would be checking her out. That's what made it better that she was his. Well not technically.

"Hey!" A voice called from behind them.

Turning around they saw Geoff surprisingly sober with Bridgette.

"I'm so glad you wore the dress we picked." Bridgette gushed.

"I didn't want you guys to kill me," Courtney replied jokingly.

Duncan looked over to Geoff to see him staring longingly at the beer.

"I see you took what Bridgette said seriously," Duncan said amused.

"Yeah, I'm not trying to be on bad terms with her. I still wanna cuddle and talk to her. Plus have sex. Spending a whole week without that over beer isn't worth it." Geoff sighed.

Patting his back sympathetically he sighed "at least it'll pay off in the end."

Geoff smiled before checking his phone. "I gotta let more guests in."

Soon it was just the two of them again.

"Can we sit down in those love seats?" She said pointing at the chairs that were sitting by the dance floor.

"Erm, no but we can sit somewhere else," Duncan said leading Courtney through a room that was quieter than the previous room. It was the chill part of the party. The music wasn't as loud. it was people still dancing but people sitting down, making out also.

"What was wrong with those chairs?" Courtney asked annoyed.

"Those chairs are the first place people go to throw up," Duncan smirked at her disgusted face.

Going to the two-seat sofa they sat down.

"So what do you think of the party so far."

He noticed she licked her lips and it made him think of the lustful thought he was thinking about earlier.

"It's revolting. The horny guys and clumsy people..." she trailed off seeing Harold rip his shirt off to impress lashawna.

Duncan tried to hold in a laugh as she added that to the list.

"Even though that nerd is annoying, people come to these parties to get a break from reality." Duncan shrugged.

"How would any of this give you a break from reality?" Courtney asked disbelievingly.

"Well, people come here for a few reasons. The drugs and alcohol. Provides an escape. People use it to cope I guess.

Then it's getting out of the house and having fun. Then the No adults or being adults. We get a break from work, trying to be perfect and just do what we want for a moment. Then people that make these things can make an escape for people you know?" Duncan shrugged.

Before courtney could reply he heard a voice call her name. He turned to where the voice is coming from.

Once again his blood was boiling when he saw Trent.

Then looking over he saw Gwen. Her hair is in small curls with a tight black dress with fishnet and her signature boots.

"Can I talk to you?" Trent asked. Duncan narrowed his eyes at him.

"Sure. I'll be right back Dunky." Courtney said before giving him a quick kiss. Duncan made sure to give Courtney's ass a quick swat for show. He didn't miss the blush that flooded her face before she left off with Trent.

Duncan smirked he never heard her call him that name.

" Ewww. Dunky?" Gwen said flatly folding her arms referring to the nickname Courtney called him.

"I like the name. It's even hotter when she says it when we're making out." Duncan lied smoothly.

She just rolled her eyes and sat on the couch next to him. Duncan couldn't help but notice how close she was to him. Inside he was excited but he tried to hide it by acting like he didn't notice.

"So how did you and her happened?" Gwen asked nonchalantly.

He just shrugged. "Well we have mutual friends and she's hot. Plus she keeps things interesting and I like that."

Duncan said. He couldn't just say he had feelings for her, Gwen knew something would be off. so he figured he'd just take it slow.

"Got in her pants yet?" Gwen asked. Duncan can hear the jealousy in her voice.

"I haven't. I'm actually trying something new. Not everything is about sex Gwen." He deadpanned.

"I find it hard to believe. You are always sexual." Gwen snorted.

"It's not for you to believe" Duncan shrugged.

She just rolled her eyes. "Anywho I just wanted to see how you're doing. As an individual. Last time I asked you called me a whore."

"Well, what do you expect after a breakup that you got cheated on." Duncan defended like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Yeah, whatever."

"But I'm doing great. Courtney and I have something good going on. She's gonna meet my parents and my other family that's coming out." He said.

"Oh. Isn't it a bit early for her to meet that many family members? I never even met them and we dated for a long time." Gwen said slightly in shock.

Duncan knew this was working perfectly. Better than he expected. He was always under the impression that she didn't care for his family.

"My parents liked her so much so they want her to meet her." He shrugged.

Seeing her eyes darken he took it up a notch "and if they like her which they will we'll be going to Italy this summer."

He always knew she wanted to go to Italy. Italy was known for its paintings and art. And she knew his family was from there.

"Lucky her," Gwen said tightly.

Inwardly rejoicing he changed the subject. "So how are you and Trent?"

He briefly saw her smile, which pissed him off slightly.

"We're doing good. We're going to an art and music museum. It's really cool cause he found two things we both are passionate about." Gwen said with her mood brightening up.

Duncan fought the urge to roll his eyes.

"Anyway, I was serious about us being friends the other day. No hard feelings?" Gwen said.

It's just for now not permanently.

"Mmm sure." He shrugged.

"I'm glad you said that cause I was thinking about that one time we went to the haunted house?" Gwen asked scooting to closer to him.

"Yeah, that was a good day." He smirked at the memory of Duncan and Gwen laughing at the sad attempts of scaring them.

"Yeah, it was a good day," Gwen said putting a hand on his thigh.

Duncan felt his body grow goosebumps he hasn't touched her in so long.

"I'm back, Trent said he would be back in a second," Courtney said walking up to them.

Duncan mentally cursed at their moment being broken.

Duncan noticed Gwen took Courtney's seat and she was just stood there at Gwen expectantly. However, Gwen just gave her a victorious smile.

"Here princess you can just sit on my lap."

Courtney sat in his lap her face smug while Gwen's expression darkened.

"So what did Elvis want?" Duncan asked Courtney wrapping his arm around her waist.

"I'll tell you later. but for the most part, we did a lot of catching up." She shrugged before facing Gwen.

"So. How's the party so far?" Courtney asked.

"Good. Surprised about you being here though, you never go to parties." Gwen said.

"Yeah well, Duncan and I made a deal so that's why I'm here. Parties aren't my thing." Courtney replied.

"I can tell. And your outfit...cute." Gwen smiled.

Duncan knew Gwen meant that condescendingly.

"You think so? I love my outfit. Duncan loved it too, right dunky?" Courtney said before turning to Duncan.

"Hell yeah. The hottest here." Duncan said. Honestly, he meant it. He still loved Gwen, but Courtney outdressed her today which is shocking cause courtney would be the last girl you'd expect to dress like this.

"That's wonderful," Gwen said tight-lipped.

"Thanks. But your outfit is...interesting. As long as you like it though right?" Courtney smiled.

He never knew how petty Gwen and Courtney could be.

Before Gwen could reply Trent came "hey Gwen I brought you a drink."

Duncan rolled his eyes. Of course, he comes when things were getting good.

"Thanks. I'm gonna need it" she muttered the last part.

Courtney rolled her eyes before turning to Duncan. "Can you show me where the drinks are?"

Knowing she probably wanted to talk to him because she made it very clear numerous times that she was not drinking.

"Yeah. We'll catch you later." Duncan said walking into the wave of people with Courtney.
