Chapter 2
My name is Woody. I work for Rangeman, LLC, in Trenton, NJ. I grew up on a ranch in Texas so when an opportunity to provide security on horseback at an outdoor concert presented itself, I was a logical choice. My security partner at the concert will be Ranger's wife, Stephanie. She's not an expert horsewoman by any means but she does ride occasionally with her niece, Mary Alice, who thinks she's a horse most of the time. All of the time.
Steph knows the horse she will be riding. His name is Doug and he's a retired racehorse, who belongs to Snuggy O'Connor. She met both of them on a case she worked with Diesel.
Steph and I decide to go out several days ahead of time to ride the horses we will be using for the security job. We're going on Friday morning, as Steph is doing a distraction for Ranger at a bar on Friday night. Steph is in jeans and a flannel shirt plus the Cat boots she wears for work.
To say that Doug recognized Steph would be a Texas-sized understatement. He started neighing and prancing around and managed to step on Steph's left foot, which is a relatively small size 7. Steph is legendary for this type of mishap and, even though she's wearing boots, it still hurts. I've been in every possible work situation with her and neither of us have ever gotten hurt but we can't even go horseback riding without something happening. Steph is very tough and even though she has tears in her eyes from the pain, she's comforting Doug, who is devastated to have hurt her. Snuggy takes her left boot off and adheres an ultra-thin first aid freezer pack to her foot.
Bobby now has x-ray equipment on third floor and can x-ray her foot to see if there are any breaks. I mention it to her but she still wants to get in some riding time with Doug. She's in pain but we are going riding. She's also mad. Why? Because she is scheduled to do a distraction for Ranger tonight and wear a slutty outfit.
So, is there such a thing as an orthopedic FMP? Asking for a friend.
