THEME SONG (Chapter 10)
The Beach was a popular hang-out place among all the contestants. They spent almost every morning there. This was a relaxing time where there wasn't a competition, and they could just hang out. As if they were all in one giant friend group.
Emma was the only person who wasn't at the beach though. She was doing her daily routine, in the kitchen, studying for her major in pre-law. But she wasn't exactly, happy. Her team was taking shifts, checking up on her.
"Hey, Emma!" Heather greeted as she entered the dining hall. She sat next to her and looked at her textbook. "Aw, you've been crying!" She rubbed Emma's back as she put her head down.
"I miss him already!" She exclaimed. "It's not like him to do that! What happened inside his mind for him to take action and risk everything?"
"I don't know what to say! I figured this would be a lot easier." Heather explained.
"Right, because you're the one suffering!" Emma retorted as she wiped some makeup off. Her eyes suddenly widened as she processed what she had said. "I'm sorry! It's just that I've been really out of it lately, and I'm terrible with my emotions!"
"I get it," Heather said as she moved Emma's hair away from her wet makeup. "When you are a strong person, and you hide your emotions because they can get the best of you. I suffered from it, and I still do."
Emma blew her nose and set the tissue on the table. "I know you're trying to help, and I really thank you for coming over here and talking to me, but can I have a moment to my self?"
"Okay, I'll just go talk to the staff," Heather responded. "If you need me, I'll be over there."
Heather walked up to DJ, who was inside the kitchen area. Heather poked his shoulder through the window.
He turned around and smiled. "Hey, Heather! What are you up to?"
"I came to check up on Emma, make sure that everything is okay with her."
"Is it?"
"Nope! She's far from okay." Heather replied.
"No worries!" DJ said as he pulled out a chocolate cake from the fridge. "I made a cake! Just for her."
"Aw, that's sweet! You gonna cut me a sliver?"
"For Emma..." DJ insisted.
"Fine! You have anything is the winner's fridge?"
"I got some leftover pasta from last night's dinner."
"Okay, warm some up for me, please."
"On it!" He scooped the pasta into a bowl and put it in the microwave. "So Heather, why are you here?"
She looked at him, a little taken back. "What do you mean?"
"How often do you check up on people, or try to connect on a personal level?" DJ asked.
"Well, it's rare that I do it. But ever since Alejandro has come back, people have been more understanding of ME! I guess that has rubbed off a little. But I also want to become a better person. For myself, you know?"
"I'm proud of you, Heather. That takes vulnerability and something you're uncomfortable with, but turns it into strength and a new outlook into your life." DJ said as he took the pasta out. He sprinkled on some salt and added a fork. "Enjoy."
"Thanks, DJ," Heather said as she put her hands on the warm bowl. "For everything. I'm happy with our friendship."
"Anytime."
Gwen and Courtney sat on the dock, away from the beach.
"Listen, when Duncan and I split, we weren't on talking terms. But we eventually got over it." Gwen said.
"Okay, but that's different!" Courtney insisted. "You guys broke up, I betrayed two people that I really cared about!"
"Okay, well how about this, you and Duncan were great, until he cheated on you. Who got all the blame?" Gwen asked.
"You did."
"Right, and although I hurt both you and Duncan, that's 2 people, and you both forgave me." Gwen reminded her. "I think that everything between you, Duncan, and Scott will be fine."
"You really think that?" Courtney asked. "Because I've dug a giant grave, fell in it, it rained, and now I'm trying to get OUT! But I keep slipping and falling."
"Look, Courtney, this will take time, and you must be patient about this."
"But what if they never trust me again?" Courtney asked.
"Do you trust me?"
Courtney paused for a moment and looked back down. "Sorry."
"See? I don't expect you to fully trust me! Why? Because I hurt you."
"I guess you do have a point," Courtney admitted.
"Scott and Duncan will eventually come around. And Duncan should especially! Because you gave him a second chance after All-Stars."
Courtney looked at Gwen and began to tear up. "I don't think I can do this. I love them both and, I didn't think it would end like this."
Gwen hugged Courtney as Trent walked up behind them.
"Gwen, is everything okay?" Trent carefully asked.
Gwen looked behind herself and saw Trent, she looked back at Courtney, "I'll let you be by yourself, okay?"
Courtney nodded a slowly pulled away from Gwen.
"Best to you..." Trent said as he and Gwen walked away.
"Okay, everyone!" Blaineley announced. "It's time for some more song battles! Time to meet the judging panel! From team Giggling Goats, he's a surfer dude who will never pass up a great party, Geoff! From team Running Roosters, he's a zombie freak show with a sprinkle of survival skills, Shawn! And finally, from the Crying Catfish, she's a surfer girl straight from the west coast, Bridgette!"
"This is kinda overboard," Jazelle commented. "But I don't mind."
"Today, we'll have 2 duets sing a 1-minute song for you! Then the judges will each rate what they think and the best average score wins! Now let's meet the singers! Please welcome duo 1 and 2! Mike and Zoey vs Sammy and Dawn!"
Cameron, Harold, Sierra, Cody, Devin, Carrie, Lightning Jazelle, Kitty, Sugar, Scott, Owen, Sky, Jo, Alejandro, Duncan, Gwen, Trent, Jasmine, and Lindsay all sat around in different areas of the beach, watching the show that Blaineley put on.
"So, Mike and Zoey, what song are you about to throw down?" Blaineley asked as she gave them space on the beach.
"We wanted to sing, Stuck For U by Dariana Zande and Dustin Slieber!" Zoey exclaimed.
"Okay! Let's do it!" Blaineley said as she played the instrumental on an old boombox
Zoey started first, she sang as a mix of Bridgette and Courtney's voices. "I'm not gonna let you down! One time so I'm out, baby! I'm taking care of the, daily!" She went behind Mike and rubbed his shoulder as she sang. "Hey, you always stick around, whoa-oh. So I'm gonna stay right here, stayin' Still layin' by your side singin'"
Mike began his verse, his voice was like a mix of DJ and Cody, "Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, We never had any set plans. Might as well do our dance, yeah I wanna be here for a lifetime"
They both began to circle around each other as they sang the chorus. "So take a tour! And show me the way Won't fight it no more! This was meant to be! And there's nothing I, nothing you, we can do, I'm stuck for you, stuck for you, stuck for you! So with that said, Just dance in the rain! Baby, we're headed south, and it still wouldn't pain me, Being stuck for you, stuck for you, stuck for you! I'm stuck for you, stuck for you, stuck for you, baby"
They took each other's hands as they finished the duet.
"Nicely done!" Blaieneley said as everyone else applauded. "Judges, please take your first card and write down your score 1 out of 10! After you're done, please slide the card, face down underneath your seat.
Bridgette, Shawn, and Geoff wrote down their scores on their cards.
"Great!" Blaineley exclaimed. "Thank you, Mike and Zoey, for that wonderful performance! Now Sammy and Dawn, what are you going to throw down?"
Dawn smiled as she looked at Sammy, then back to Blaineley. "We'd like to sing Teening Dream by Katie Purry!"
"Let's hit it!" Blaineley exclaimed.
Dawn began the first line. "You say I'm funny when I try to reach the sky! You think I'm pretty and I don't even have to try! When you really get me, I let it all come down, down!" She looked at Sammy, smirked, and flipped her hair.
Sammy giggled at Dawn and sang next. "Come on all the way, alright. Don't turn back, just love! We can reach, up to the sky, you and I! We'll be with each other!"
Sammy and Dawn began to dance as a more upbeat instrumental played, They sang the chorus together. "You take me, feel like I'm living a teening dream, the way you play my song! I, won't speak! Let's go away and don't ever come back! No, don't ever come back! I, just, stop when you come with me! Just, one, much, now baby come with me! Is this real? Let's take a chance and don't ever come back! No, don't ever come back!"
"Don't ever come back, baby!" Dawn sang ending the performance.
The crowd applauded some more.
"Judges, please write down your scores then trade them out for your Stuck For U," Blaineley said as she toured the audience. "Now let's see what the crowd thinks."
"Is this really happening? Like, it isn't my imagination... am I hallucinating?" Jazelle asked.
"Jasmine, which performance did you like better, and why?" Blaineley asked as she went over to her.
"Me? Uhh... probably Sammy and Dawn's! They have great chemistry, vocally and I enjoyed that."
"Great to hear!" Blaineley said. "Now, what did you think, Harold?"
"I think that looking at it vocally is way to easy. I think Zoey and Mike did a great job with the meaning behind the song, and it hits better when you know of their relationship and..."
"I'm gonna cut you off right there!" Blaineley remarked as she turned to the judge's panel. "Bridgette! My dear, what did you score for Stuck For U, and why?"
Bridgette adjusted herself and cleared her throat. "I gave Stuck For U a score of 8 points! It was a very romantic song, and as Harold was saying, it hits better when you know their relationship and stuff."
Zoey and Mike looked at each other and kissed.
"Great, Shawn! What did you score this team?"
"Well Blaineley, this isn't the type of music I listen to, so I looked at their energy and because of how mellow and gentle the song is, I scored them 7 points!"
"Okay, finally, Geoff! How much did you score Stuck For U and why?"
"Well, Blaineley, I am a man who loves a good party! And this wasn't my vibe! But it was okay, so I gave them 6 points. But keep doing what you're doing dudes!"
"Okay, that gives them a total of 21 points, which makes the average score... 7 points! Not bad!"
Zoey and Mike smiled and let Sammy and Dawn come forward.
"Okay, time for the Teening Dream results!" Blaineley said. "Bridgette, what did you score Sammy and Dawn?"
"Well, although I did enjoy the performance, I still think that the Stuck For U song had more sentimental value, but I enjoyed it. I scored them a little bit below, and gave them a 6."
"Thank you, Bridgette, now, Shawn, what did you score the duo?"
"Well, again, I didn't know the song as it isn't my preferred genre. Now their voices did mix very well so I scored them the same as Stuck For U, with 7 points!"
Blaineley looked towards Geoff. "Okay, you're the last score! They need an 8 to tie, and higher to win! Geoff, what did you score them?"
"Well, I always like a good party song, and Katie Purry is great at doing those! You guys put on a show and I gave you a score of... 8 points!"
Blaineley dropped her smiled and stared at the judges. "Seriously? You guys tied them?"
Zoey, Mike, Sammy, and Dawn all group hugged.
"Congratulations, guys!" Blaineley said.
Chris got on the loudspeakers. "Campers! It's time to head to the clearing of the forest for today's challenge! It's going to be shocking to you all. Be here in ten minutes!"
