Chapter Five
Ice Time, Part Two
Sam scrambled to his feet and quickly grabbed Hhessh by the arm. "No! Don't kill her!" he cried in horror while struggling with the Ice Lord, who quickly pushed him to the floor.
"Sssstay out of thissss, Tollinger!" said Hhessh angrily, "Ssshe musssst be ssssssilenced!"
"I'm not the only one who's in on the mission you oversized crocodile!" snarked Ace.
The Ice Lord turned his attention back to Ace. "Who else knows of the misssion?" demanded Hhessh.
"Don't say anything!" pleaded Sam in a hoarse whisper.
"Ssssilence!" snapped Hhessh before turning back to Ace, "Tell me, or you will be dessstroyed!"
"Well, there's the Doctor for starters." began Ace.
"Isss he human or another alien?" asked Hhessh.
"He's from Mars like you," lied Ace, who thought she could detect a look of shock crossing Hhessh's face, "He learned all about the mission. I'm his explosives expert."
"Interessssting," remarked the Ice Lord, "How much has Tollinger told you and thisss Doctor?"
"That you're trying to steal back stolen martian technology from the vault in the Tower of London." explained Ace before grinning.
"I hope that the girl and thissss Doctor can be trusted, Tollinger!" barked Hhessh as he whirled around to face Sam.
"Yeah, yeah, course they can." answered Sam nervously.
Outside in the hallway, the Doctor was heading towards the room where he'd learned Sam was; Anna following close behind.
"So, how much do you know about Sam, Anna?" asked the Doctor curiously.
"We grew up together," informed Anna, smiling, "We dated for a time, but then Sam became a lone gangster: stealing stuff; conning people; that sort of thing, and then I didn't see him again until three months ago, where we spent the night together."
"Fascinating," replied the Doctor before walking up to the door and lightly knocking on it.
After a few moments, the door opened and Sam poked his head out.
"Ahh, Doctor, Anna, you're just in time," said Sam nervously, "Look, before you come in, there's some things I should probably tell you first."
"I'm sure there are." said the Doctor before pushing his way into the room, followed by Anna.
The two stopped as they spotted Hhessh, who was standing next to Ace. Anna gasped in shock at the sight of the Ice Lord, who hissed furiously at them before glaring at Sam. "You lied, Tollinger!" he snapped angrily, "You sssaid only one other persssson knew! Thessse two musssst be ssssilenced!"
Hhessh levelled his sonic gun at them, but Sam quickly jumped between the three of them. "No, wait, Hhessh, they're part of the team too!" he cried before indicating to the Doctor and then Anna, "That's the Doctor and that's MI6 Agent Anna Carlton."
"S-Sam, w-who is he?" asked Anna in a frightened tone of voice.
"Don't worry, love, he won't hurt you, I promise," assured Sam before indicating Hhessh, "This is Hhessh: he's an Ice Warrior; they're the race that own the martian technology that's stored in the Tower of London vault. I was going to tell you."
Anna seemed to calm down.
The Doctor calmly walked over to Hhessh. "May I just say that it was careless of you to leave dangerous martian technology lying around. Why didn't you send a signal back to Mars for help."
"A civil war broke out on Marssss," explained Hhessh, "Our people ssssplit into two factions; all wanting control over the planet. Myself and a group of other Ice Warriorssss were exiled from Marssss, but before leaving, we took the relics of Sezhyr in the hope that we would revive him and that he would bring peace to Mars. Our sssship crashed into your River Thames in 1933. After the humansss took the relics and our technology, the sssship was found and placed in a cold storage facility."
"Alright, I'll help you," said the Doctor, who was beginning to sympathise with these Ice Warriors, "but only if you promise to take all the technology and relics and go home."
"That is what we wissssh to do," replied Hhessh, "You have a deal."
"Good, good." uttered the Doctor.
Hhessh then walked over to the fire escape and stepped out on to it.
"You'd better not be seen!" cried Sam in exasperation before turning to the others, "This job is scrubbed if Hhessh gets seen."
"He wouldn't be that hard to miss, I mean just look at him," said Anna in astonishment, "No offence."
Ace looked at the Doctor, who at the minute looked rather annoyed.
"Professor, I think you were a bit rude to Hhessh earlier: saying that he and his group were careless."
"Professor? Thought you were a Doctor?" asked Sam.
"Professor is a nickname Ace came up with and insists on calling me," muttered the Doctor before speaking loudly, "I just don't like the idea that once again, I'm not in charge of the situation."
"Well then, I'll just have to take on some of those responsibilities again." said Ace, smiling.
"Thank you, Ace, but you really don't have to." said the Doctor.
"Hey, I managed everything on the Vancouver," Ace reminded him, "I'm sure it'll be fine."
"Okay, but please be careful," said the Doctor nervously, "Everybody has their own agenda."
"Good point, Doctor," said Anna, "I'm not entirely sure that I trust this Hhessh character.
"Relax, love, you can trust him," assured Sam, "He's in charge
"I'm also worried about Felton," added the blonde nervously, once again rubbing her belly, "What if he finds out what we're really doing? I think he's getting suspicious."
"Well, if Eugene hadn't tried to play Burglar Bill, he wouldn't be suspicious, would he!" huffed Sam, "Why do you keep rubbing your belly?"
"Slightly bad stomach ache." claimed Anna.
On the landing of the fire escape, Hhessh was speaking with the hologram of another Ice Warrior that appeared on his arm.
"Glarva, are you in position?" asked Hhessh.
"Yessss, Lord Hhesssh," replied the Ice Warrior named Glarva, "Awaiting further insssstructions."
"Relay to the othersss that phasssse one of the misssion isss complete," ordered the Ice Lord before taking on a warning tone of voice, "Thessse humansss are ill-disssciplined, untrussstworthy and not true warriors."
"I undersssstand, Lord Hhessh, over and out." said Glarva.
The hologram then vanished.
Ace came on to the landing with a plate of fish fingers. "I brough you some food," she said, offering Hhessh the plate, "Sam says you like fish fingers? Pretty strange for a martian."
"My brain wasss damaged due to thawing out too quickly," informed Hhessh before digging into his fish fingers, "It hasss caussssed me to develop a liking for this particular Earth delicacy."
"So, why exactly did you choose Earth as your place of exile?" asked Ace curiously, "Don't get me wrong, it's an alright place to live, but it's not entirely ideal for you lot: the Doctor mentioned you have to live in cold climates."
"When we left, we planned to exile oursssselvesss to Neptune," informed Hhessh, "but when it was dissscovered that we had sssstolen the relics, we were persued by sssseveral Ice Warrior battle ssshipsss that managed to damage our own sssship. Earth was the nearesssst planet, sssso we jumped to lightspeed and made an emergency crassssh landing. That wassss forty-three yearssss ago."
"Wicked!" cried Ace in astonishment, "So, how many of you are left?"
"Only sssseven old warriorssss remain, including mysssself," lamented Hhessh, "But our long ssssuffering will end once we retrieve the relicssss and ressssurrect Lord Sssezhyr, then we sssshall return to Marssss and wipe out the other faction."
Ace was tempted to ask which faction was the good one, but decided against it.
The next morning, the Doctor and Ace met up with Sam, Anna and Hhessh in the same bedroom as yesterday.
"Rrrright, Anna, rrrrun us through the plan one more time." said the Doctor.
"We'll attend the Changing of the Guard ceremony at eleven," bgan Anna in a matter-of fact tone, "Then we'll make a quick exit at twelve-fifty. Now initially, Eugene, one of MI6's top scientists was supposed to meet us with a crate and truck, which he would drive through the gates of the Tower of London, but he was killed yesterday, so his brother Jack will be taking on that role instead. Once inside, we'll make our way to the vault, put all of its content into the crate then we make our escape."
There was suddenly a light knock at the door. Sam went over and opened it, allowing Felton to enter.
"Major Felton, what a surprise!" cried Anna nervously while rubbing her belly.
"Indeed," drawled Felton before looking at the Doctor and Ace, "I must apologise for the mixup yesterday: it appears that you were indeed overlooked."
"Not to worry, Major," said the Doctor, smiling sheepishly, "We all make mistakes."
"It seems so," remarked Felton before noticing the leftovers from the room service, "I see you ordered room service for five people; that is a bit odd when there's only four of you."
"I was just really, really hungry," claimed Anna.
"Yes, good agents shouldn't work on an empty stomach." remarked Felton, "Anyway, I'd better be off: lots of paperwork to get through and all that."
Felton then exited the room.
Hhessh exited the bathroom.
"That was too close," sighed Anna in relief, once again rubbing her belly.
"Do you think he knows?" asked Sam nervously.
"He could only be slightly suspicious." suggested the Doctor.
"I am not fully confident in any of your abilitiessss, but I undersssstand my role in thissss."
A bit later on at the entrance to the Tower of London, Felton was standing in front of the Ice Warrior helmet wearing motorbikers.
"Now, as tempting as it is to stop them, I want you to let them through." Felton was saying.
Two of the bikers revved their engines as if to express their displeasure.
"I know, I know, but I'd like to keep any sort of a commotion to a minimum!" explained Felton loudly, "But if they should choose to deviate, then I'll close the trap myself. Very soon, MI6 will give Great Britain the greatest prize of them all."
The Doctor once again found himself in the white void.
"Adjudicator, are you absolutely sure that this is safe?" asked the worried Time Lord, "Ace could be putting herself in serious danger."
"There has been no disruption to the timeline and no humans have noticed anything." assured the voice of the Adjudicator.
"I wouldn't be so sure!" argued the Doctor, "I have a feeling that you've caused some type of temporal displacement that's put Ace in danger!"
"All Time Lords make mistakes, Doctor, even you haven't led a blameless life." pointed out the Adjudicator.
"Yes, I've indeed made mistakes, but I would never do something so reckless!" snapped the Doctor.
"Goodbye, Doctor." said the Adjudicator as his voice faded away.
"Wait, come back!" cried the Doctor.
The whiteness faded away and the Doctor found himself back in London. Sam was watching him curiously. "Come on, Doctor, or we'll miss the parade." he said.
The Doctor and Sam walked over to a small group of people, who were watching the parade go by.
"So, how dangerous are these Martian weapons?" asked Sam.
"Dangerous enough that humans shouldn't have them," muttered the Doctor darkly, "If humans were able to use this technology, then the consequences would be devastating."
"You're just like Hhessh: I've no clue what you're both on about half the time." remarked the man.
"Yes, well I think Hhessh's arrival has caused utter chaos." remarked the Doctor.
Not too far away, Ace and Anna were watching the parade.
"Many of these people are factory workers I knew back in Manchester," informed Anna, "I moved to London for a better life, which is how I ended up joining MI6."
"Anna, I hope you don't mind me asking this, but are you pregnant?" asked Ace curiously.
"W-what makes you say that?" asked Anna nervously, rubbing her belly.
"You rub your belly any time you're nervous and you ordered a rather large meal." pointed out Ace.
"Okay, yes, I'm fifteen weeks pregnant." sighed Anna in defeat.
"Have you told the dad yet?" asked Ace curiously before realisation dawned on her, "Ohhh, it's him isn't it?"
"Yes, Sam's the dad, but I don't want him to know," replied Anna, "I don't want him worrying about me all the time, and I'm not sure if he's the type to settle down."
"You won't know until you tell him," said the teen, "Sam seems like a decent guy, and I think he deserves to know the truth. Tell you what: I won't tell him about you being pregnant as long as you tell him after the mission: deal?"
"Deal." said Anna as she and Ace shook hands.
Hhessh was currently stuffed inside a large, wooden crate, having a conversation with Glarva.
"We are tracking your current location, Lord Hhesssh." informed Glarva.
"Excellent!" hissed Hhessh, "How far away are you? Thisss crate issss unbearable."
"We are approaching London." answered Glarva.
Hhessh ended the call.
The Doctor, Ace, Sam and Anna were now in the back of the van being driven by Jack; the crate containing Hhessh separated the four.
"I hope Hhessh doesn't start trying to kill everybody in the building." said Sam in concern.
"Don't worry, I talked to him and he's set his sonic gun to stun." assured Ace.
"Oh good, good." sighed Sam in relief.
The van suddenly came to a stop.
Jack got out, walked round to the back and opened the back doors, allowing the group to shuffle out one at a time. The four then grabbed the crate and placed it on to a trolly. Ace noticed Anna puffing slightly. "Are you alright?" she asked in concern.
"Yes, it's just nerves." replied the blonde.
"The vault is located in the armoury," informed Jack before a grave expression crossed his face, "Please ensure that nobody sees you on your way in: my brother gave his life trying to help you; let's just hope you succeed."
"I hope so too," said the Doctor in a grim voice, "I'm sorry about what happened to him. Rest assurrrrred that these weapons won't remain in the hands of MI6."
The Doctor began wheeling the trolly towards a door that led into the main part of the tower; the others following just behind.
The lift in the armoury pinged before the doors slid open. The Doctor and co wandered into the large room, where they could see the door to the vault just ahead.
"This is too easy." muttered Sam nervously.
Ace wandered over to the large, vault door, took out the bank note and tried the combination, but to her shock, it didn't work.
"Did I do it wrong?" asked the brunette in dismay.
"No, you didn't," muttered the Doctor, "I think somebody has changed the combination."
"Right, stand back boys and girls." smirked Ace as she removed her rucksack and pulled out a can of nitro-nine.
Ace activated the fuse and placed the can at the foot of the door as it began hissing. Ace quickly ran back to the others, and after a few seconds there was a small explosion, which caused the safe door to swing open.
"Blimey! let's hope nobody heard that!" cried Sam in shock.
The Doctor and Anna opened the crate. Hhessh groaned as he clambered out of the crate, he then walked towards the vaults open door and hissed. "At lasssst!" he hissed in triumph, "The holy relicsssss!"
Hhessh stepped aside and allowed the others to enter with the crate. The group began picking up the various items and gently putting them in the crate; one of which was an Ice Lord's helmet.
In another part of the tower, Jack was talking with Felton.
"And they're all in the armoury?" questioned Felton.
"Y-yes, I checked," answered Jack nervously, "Now p-please, let my family go."
"Of course," replied a sneering Felton, "They didn't betray me like you and your brother: they'll understand one day."
"What are you-
Before Jack could finish, Felton pulled out a pistol and fired. There was a loud bang and Jack crumpled to the floor, dead.
Back in the armoury, the group had just finished loading up the crate when an alarm began wailing.
"I knew it, we've been betrayed!" cried Sam in alarm as he and the Doctor slammed the lid down on the crate.
"Let's get out of here!" cried the Time Lord.
With help from Hhessh, the group lifted the crate up and heaved it on to the trolly, the Doctor wheeled the trolly towards the lift when the doors slid apart and Felton, followed by several agents stepped out and aimed their guns at the group, forcing them to stop.
"Stay where you are!" ordered Felton, "You're all under arrest, and as for you, Agent Carlton, you will be charged with high treason."
"After learning about the experiments, I really don't care!" snarled Anna.
"How did you find out what we were doing?" asked the Doctor curiously.
"After Eugene's betrayal, I interrogated his brother and got the truth out of him. It's a shame really: they could've been so good."
"You murdering scumbag!" snarled Ace angrily as she tried to make a move before the Doctor grabbed her arm.
"Quiet girl!" snapped Felton before turning his attention to Hhessh, "As for you, our scientists will love experimenting on an actual martian."
"You dare to threaten an Ice Lord!" snarled Hhessh.
And before anybody could stop him, Hhessh began stunning the agents with his sonic gun, he then violently shoved Felton to the floor.
The group quickly made their way to the van. After stuffing the crate into the back, Sam, Anna and Hhessh squeezed inside, while the Doctor and Ace hopped into the front; Ace taking the wheel. Ace hotwired the van and it started up, she then slammed her foot down on the accelerator and the van smashed its way through the gates and out on to the road.
"Where to now, Professor?" asked Ace excitedly.
"Back to the TARDIS," replied the Doctor, "After we drop Sam and Anna off, we'll take Hhessh and the relics to his ship."
"Got it." replied Ace as she began driving in the direction of the Thames.
Ace then looked out the rear view mirror and was shocked to see the Ice Warrior helmet wearing bikers pursuing them. "We've got company!" she cried in alarm, "It's those bikers with the Ice Warrior helmets."
"Felton must have had them waiting in case we managed to escape." said the Doctor in realisation.
"Let me deal with them." said Hhessh before moving to the doors and opening them.
"Hhessh, NO!" cried the Doctor in warning.
But the Doctor's warning fell on deaf ears. Hhessh snarled hissed furiously as he saw what the bikers were wearing, he then began firing his sonic gun at them, hitting two of them and sending them flying and their motorbikes skidding.
Ace saw the frozen Thames dead ahead and pushed the van to go as fast as it could. The van crashed through the barrier and slammed on to the ice, causing large parts of it to crack. Ace quickly hit the brakes, causing the van to screech to a halt near the TARDIS.
"Wicked!" exclaimed Ace in triumph.
Ace stopped the van and hopped out alongside the Doctor. Hhessh came out of the back and grabbed the crate. Sam and Anna then got out.
"Come on, into the police box, it's bigger than it looks." said the Doctor, gesturing towards the TARDIS.
"Well, sweetheart, this is where I say goodbye," said Sam to Anna before giving her a hug and a kiss, "I'll send you the money for the job in a week's time. I hope they don't throw the book at you."
"B-but, Sam, there's something I need to tell you." said Anna.
"Well, whatever it is, I'm sure you can tell me another time," assured Sam as he put his hands on the woman's shoulders, "but I've really got to go and talk to my boss."
"But, Sam, it can't wait!" yelled Anna firmly, which took Sam by surprise, "Sam … I'm pregnant with your child!"
Sam felt as though the van had just struck him. "Y-you're … pregnant." he uttered in shock.
Before Sam, the Doctor and Hhessh had time to process this news, a large spaceship suddenly materialised above their heads.
"Is that your spaceship?" asked the Doctor to Hhessh.
"Yesssss," replied the Ice Lord before pressing a few buttons on his wrist, "Activating tractor beam."
A large, green beam of light suddenly surrounded the area where the group was standing, blinding them. There was suddenly a blinding flash of white light.
(AN) And that was chapter five of my WIDWWA Season 27 fan novelisation; hope you all enjoyed.
So, now that everybody is on board the Ice Warrior ship, what will happen next? You'll just have to wait and see.
Until then, this is TimeLordMaster108 signing out.
