Link, Teba, Hubert, and Kass watched some construction workers worked on the burned remains of Elder Kaneli's hut. "The one thing we've managed to firmly establish is that the Elder was murdered after we left, but before we got back," Hubert said. "The fire was set around thirty minutes prior to our return to the village."
Teba's eyes narrowed. "Do you think someone killed the Elder and set a fire to hide the evidence? Or that the Elder saw someone setting a fire and they killed him to keep him from raising the alarm?"
"Within the question lies the answer to who murdered him," Hubert postulated. "The former implies that it was someone from Rito Village who had a grudge against the Elder. The latter suggests someone who wanted to cause damage to the village."
"Meaning the Yiga Clan or Astor," Link inferred.
"Exactly," Hubert nodded. "I suspect it was the latter. Anyone local would know how much of a danger fire could be to a structure such as this. When Ferdinand spotted the fire and called the alarm, it had spread enough that anyone who intended to call the alarm would have."
"I see," Teba said, his voice dripping with rage.
"There is another matter," Kass said. "With Elder Kaneli dead, Rito Village needs a new Elder. And now that it's been established that he couldn't have been the killer, Teba's name has been the one I've heard proposed most."
"Mine?" Teba asked. "But..."
"You were the only Rito who was on the team that retook Vah Medoh," Kass said.
Teba hesitated. "This is a big responsibility." He looked up. "But if the people decide I am the best choice, I will accept it. And I will serve to the best of my ability."
"I had hoped you would. I'm not sure the village would accept anyone else," Kass said.
Teba nodded. "So be it."
The Rising Sun Company had set up inside the town's meeting hall, and were waiting for Link and Hubert to return. Kronya, who wasn't sure of her current status, was waiting outside, which suited her just fine. At her request, Dinraal and Naydra had joined her.
Flayn exited the meeting hall. "Kronya. You wanted to talk to me?"
"Yes, well, there were a couple of someones I thought you should meet," Kronya said. She then addressed Dinraal and Naydra. "Dinraal, Naydra, this is Flayn. The...friend I told you about."
"Hello, Flayn. It is good to meet you," Naydra said.
"Kronya told us that we needed to talk to you before we left?" Dinraal added.
Kronya didn't stay close enough to hear the conversation they had, feeling it wasn't for her ears. All she knew was that it involved hugging, and that Flayn walked away from it with tears in her eyes and a pair of large dragon scales in her hands.
A few hours later, Link and Hubert had joined the others, and had begun deliberating. Kronya was watching the sunset when Link left the meeting hall.
"You decided?" Kronya asked.
"Yes," Link said. "It wasn't close. 24-2, with two abstaining."
"Well?" Kronya asked.
"Welcome to the Rising Sun Company, Kronya," Link said, smiling.
"You mean it?" Kronya asked.
"Yes," Link said. "Dimitri and Lysithea were against it, and I think Edelgard wanted to talk to you before she decided if she was okay with it, but everyone else wanted you back."
"Thank you! You won't regret it, I promise!" Kronya said with enthusiasm.
"I believe you," Link said. "Now, let's go in and eat. I made dinner."
Kronya smiled wider. "I can already taste it." And the two of them went back to rejoin their Company.
"And that's a good spot to stop for now," Kronya said.
"Very well," Rhea agreed.
"We can come back in a couple hours," Cyril suggested.
With that, they left the meeting room.
