Chapter 5: The White-Haired Man with the Plan!
Being the man of the house when his parents weren't around was quite a challenge for one 17-year-old Lincoln Loud. After Lori, 23 years old, moved out of the house to go to Fairway University (eventually managing to graduate and move in with her boyfriend Bobby's family), it was up to Leni and sometimes him to maintain order in the Loud House. When Leni, Luna, Luan and Lynn were out of the house doing their own thing, the responsibility of looking after the rest of the sisters fell to him.
At first, Lincoln thought he had to be sweet and funny like Luan, Leni or Luna, such as complimenting them or just being overtly kinder to them than usual...
It worked, at first... but it made the girls and even Lily (but only without her realizing until later), walk all over him by taking advantage of his enabling nature and generosity.
Next, he tried demanding and threatening like Lori or Lynn to keep his 5 younger sisters Lola, Lisa, Lana, Lucy, and Lisa from tearing the house apart.
It worked... but it soon made his younger sisters a bit afraid of him... and that was the last thing he wanted.
But after a talk with his parents and his big sisters, he realized that he shouldn't become something that he wasn't.
So, after he apologized to his sisters he was looking after, who apologized as well, they made a deal:
The deal was that if Lincoln's little sisters can go a night once a week without getting into a fight with each other or wrecking the house while their parents or older sisters were away, and if Lincoln didn't resort to yelling or physical retaliation (granted he doesn't resort to it but still) when he or Leni were in charge while Rita and Lynn Sr were gone for the night, they would hire a babysitter to look after the younger sisters when Lincoln is too tired to do so himself or the parents would stay home to look after them and cancel whatever date night they had planned. The older sisters also agreed to cancel what events that they would have planned and help Lincoln look after the other sisters when he wasn't feeling up or it, be it like one sister or two of them at a time.
So that kind of deal, while a bit rocky at first, was working so far. With some trial and error, but still it was working...
Speaking of Lincoln and the rest of his sisters that were in the house...
Leni, 22 years old, was contacting Scott from Scotland on her laptop using Facetime; they were going quite good as a couple. Maybe a day will come when one of them could pop the question.
Luna, 21 years old, was on the phone talking to her girlfriend, the 21-year-old Samantha Sharp, who was a fellow rocker herself.
As for the 18-year-old Lynn, the athlete was currently in her room bouncing a soccer ball on top of her head, trying to see how many times that she can do it.
For Luan, the 20-year-old comedian was writing some new jokes in a journal, hoping to see if she can get some chuckles out of people when she uses them.
The 10-year-old Lisa was in her room currently working on an experiment as careful as she could... with the 7-year-old Lily assisting her of course. Much to their surprise, Lisa's experiment didn't blow up this time.
The 13-year-old Lucy in the ventilation shaft writing a poem, surprisingly she was now the height of Lincoln when he was eleven years old, yet she could still fit in the vents. Which was still a mystery even to this day.
As for the 12-year-old twins Lana and Lola, they were downstairs watching TV. For the past hour, they were trying find what show to watch. Lana wanted to watch a monster truck rally, but Lola didn't want to sit through what she considered "a waste of television". Lola on the other hand, wanted to watch a show about magical princesses who kicked ass of those who invaded their kingdom. It was a show that Lincoln introduced her to once and once she watched an episode or two, she was instantly hooked onto it like a drug. But Lana didn't want to sit through what she considered "just another show with easy to figure out life lessons".
Normally, this back and forth would result in a fight, but instead of doing what their younger selves of yesteryear did, they chose to play a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. So far it had been a stalemate for the two Loud sisters.
Eventually, they stopped when they realized that continuing it would be pointless.
They found themselves soon watching a show that combined both of those elements that they admired, much to their surprise and collective joy.
As for the Man with the Plan himself...
Lincoln was drawing a comic of his own in his room. He's been drawing for the past two hours now.
He wasn't alone either as his mother was currently sitting on his bed writing her in her journal about her novel on her son. The only reason that she wasn't in her and Lynn Sr's room was because she couldn't concentrate with Lola and Laana arguing over their TV situation. Yes, while she could tell the twins to keep the noise down, she just knew it would fall on deaf ears anyway considering the two would always fight, Although Lincoln did want to have his privacy, he didn't really mind it because when was the last time the two ever spent time together when they weren't trying to keep the house from being torn apart by the rest of their family or when Rita and Lynn Sr. were out doing their jobs or on date night?
The answer was "Almost never!"
Getting back to Loud teen boy himself, as he was drawing a section of his paper, as he was doing so, it felt like his mind was on the topic of something else.
As a result of this unfocused thinking, he began to draw something else...
It was a rather familiar feeling that he's felt every now and then. And with each passing day, that feeling began to grow a bit stronger as it then began to become mixed with some of his other emotions.
The two emotions he was feeling at the moment was a longing for a romantic partner mostly because of his teenage hormones and for some bizarre reason, a sense of justice because of his love for the fictional superhero that he was currently reading about.
For the romantic longing, he's felt it even since one of his best friends, his former bully/love interest now turned other best friend Ronnie Anne Santiago, had moved to Great Lakes City with her older brother Bobby and her mother Maria in order to get closer to their extended family, the Casagrandes. Before the move, the two had briefly dated for only two weeks before deciding to just be friends. The biggest hurdle in that decision was getting Lori to accept it. Luckily, they already had Bobby's support in their decision.
For Lori, it took some time to come to terms with the downgrade, but she ultimately came to accept it as long as it didn't come in between her own relationship with Bobby, who she is still dating. Cause they all knew what happened last time that strife between Lincoln and Ronnie caused trouble for the older couple's relationship.
As for the sense of justice, it was unknown why he was feeling... heroic all of a sudden. Maybe it was all those Ace Savvy comics he's been reading and that was what was inspiring him to make his own comic, which he was currently doing at the moment. He really got to stop reading those things so much, it was messing with his mind and sense of reality.
He soon snapped back to reality when felt his left hand cramped up.
"Ow!" He said as he dropped his pencil onto his desk.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" Rita asked in concerned for her son as she got up from his bed and walked towards him, placing a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"Yeah. I'm fine." Lincoln said as he massaged his hand a bit. "My hand just cramped up, that's all."
"Maybe you should take a break, honey. You've been drawing for over two hours." Rita said in understanding but as soon as she looked down at the paper Lincoln was drawing, she was interested in what he drew. "That's certainly interesting."
"Huh?" A little confused the teen Loud looked down at his paper and became even more confused. "What the...?"
On his paper instead of drawing in action scene that the titular detective hero. He ended up drawing certain four people and one certain animal as well as himself. Upon further inspection, it did look quite good despite not being what he wanted to draw in the first place.
"I don't remember drawing this." was his only response.
"Maybe, but it does look good though." Rita said smiling at her son's drawing. "Especially that long, blue haired one."
Lincoln looked in the direction of where his mother was looking, and his cheeks immediately turned red with embarrassment. What he drew was a certain blue haired young lady but rather a bit more... physically mature than the other four and the animal.
"Something on your mind, son?" Rita teased her son with that question.
Hearing that made Lincoln blush even more, while he was used to being teased, there were limits to how much teasing he would take.
"Stupid teenage hormones." Lincoln thought to himself in his mind. Regardless, he had to ask her what was on his mind. "Mom, this might sound silly. But do you believe in destiny?" he asked sheepishly.
"Well yes sometimes, but it depends on the type of destiny?" Rita answered honestly as she stared down at the drawing once more. "And I'm guessing that these people you drew are part of whatever that destiny is for you and them?"
"Probably." Lincoln shrugged. "Call me crazy, but I think this drawing might a sign of things to come and I think these people might be real people that I could meet."
"Well, whatever the future brings, be it these guys you drew or something else entirely, just know that your family will support you in it. No matter what." Rita said as she brought her teen son into a side hug. "But even they don't, I will. Even if it's something really crazy."
"Really?" The white haired almost adult asked looking up at her.
"Of course, Lincoln, we're family." Rita confirmed. "Especially after... that incident that we don't talk about anymore."
Lincoln knew what she was talking about, so he chose not to bring it up. "You're right. Thanks Mom." He said as he wrapped his arms around her.
"Anytime sweetie." She said as then walked to Lincoln's door and opened it. "I'm going to bed Lincoln, hopefully Lana and Lola have stopped arguing by now. See you in the morning."
"Goodnight Mom. I love you." The man with the plan said.
"Love you too, honey." The blonde hair woman said as she then closed the door.
With his mom now going to bed, Lincoln decided to go to sleep as well. So, he took the papers off his desk, opened his drawer and put the papers in there.
He was about to put the paper he drew on when he suddenly stopped.
For some reason, he couldn't bring himself to put this one away.
So, he closed the drawer and placed the paper onto the desk.
"Hey Lincoln." greeted a voice behind him.
Lincoln let out a scream as he fell out of his chair. Looking up, he saw that it was his goth sister, Lucy.
"Lucy, what are you doing in here?" Lincoln groaned as he got up. "And why do you keep doing that?!"
"I'm sorry brother, I didn't mean to scare you." Lucy said before she held out her hand for Lincoln to take, which he did as his sister helped him up. "I was in the vents when I overheard you and Mom's conversation, and before you ask, no, I wasn't eavesdropping." Lucy explained before she then asked. "Can I see your work?"
"Oh, uh... sure?" The older brother said as he handed the paper to his sister, who took it in her hands.
As Lucy inspected Lincoln's drawing, she grew a smile on her face. "Who are these people?"
"That's the thing Luce, I don't even remember drawing those people. It's like my mind was somewhere else. Maybe it's a sign of things to come." Lincoln revealed.
"Maybe it's an omen." Lucy hypothesized.
"Probably." Lincoln said. "Who knows, maybe these people are real, and I might be able to meet them one day."
"It's a possibility. After all, the universe works in mysterious ways." Lucy said as she handed the paper back to her brother. "Goodnight brother."
"Goodnight Lucy." Lincoln as he watched his sister go back into the vents.
Afterwards, Lincoln put the paper back on his desk before he then turned his light off and got into his bed, closing his eyes as he tried to sleep.
As he was sleeping, unknown to him, he will soon discover that the universe indeed works in mysterious ways as this night will be proof of that...
The sixth and final member of this team of heroics has been introduced.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and now we can finally get into the nitty gritty of "Dreams of Destiny".
I'll see you all in the next chapter.
