Hermione carefully dipped the quill in the ink, making sure to make sure there were no blots. This had to be perfect, in her best hand. Never before had there been something this important, well the welfare of the house elves had come close. No, Severus' freedom was more important. She realized it shouldn't be, that it should be equal, but the elves weren't about to be murdered for something. The elves weren't the one she was in love with, despite the fact she had yet to actually admit this fact to anyone.

She read over the letter of appeal, listing everything Severus Snape had done in the guise of a Death Eater. It was a long list, one she didn't want to think about. She knew the man she loved had murdered people, tortured people. She knew he wasn't a good man, but there was good in him. None of that really mattered, all that mattered were getting the facts on paper so that someone with more power could decide the fate of the man.

The murder of Albus Dumbledore was the biggest thing. Hermione knew Severus hadn't had a choice in the matter. He was under an Unbreakable Vow, his loyalty would have been called into question. She wrote the murder on the list, tears stinging her eyes. She could only hope the judge would be fair. That they'd even read her appeal, that they wouldn't just throw in the fire and laugh about the fact some stupid witch had fought to save Snape's life.

It was done. It was perfect. She double checked everything, including the list of people she'd found to testify about Severus. They had to listen to her, they just had to! She put it in an envelope, sealed it with wax and attached it to one of the school owls.

She watched the owl fly off, now all she could do was wait and hope. She hoped her words, her witnesses, her knowledge of the whole situation would be enough to make them at least look into things, just enough to save Severus. She didn't care about if he still had his Order of Merlin. She didn't care if he was labeled a war hero or Death Eater. All she cared about was that he was alive, and one day, she could finally tell him how she felt.
