Chapter two
"Just tell us who he is, Andy!" Jack tried
"It isn't a "he" it's a "HER" Okay?" Andy let out. "Everyone happy now?" Andy asked rhetorically and ran out of the room. Michelle just shook her head at the firefighters and chased after her cousin, leaving the beanery full of shocked firefighters.
While Michelle followed an emotional Andy out of the beanery the remaining firefighters were left feeling shocked.
"Okay, what the hell just happened? Do you normally push your teammates to share personal information? You're captain nonetheless?" Kate asked, even though she'd had a rocky start with 19 she never got the vibe that they pushed each other into spilling their personal lives.
"No. No we don't." Vic said, feeling guilty, knowing if she didn't go along with Travis' questions that this wouldn't have happened. "I'm going to go talk to her." Vic said, leaving the room.
Vic walked out of the beanery and down to the captain's office and knocked. "Captain Herrera, can I have a word?" Vic asked, hoping her girlfriend wouldn't be too mad at her.
It took a couple seconds before the door opened and when it did she saw Michelle.
"Vic, I really don't think now is a good time."
"Michelle, please. Let me talk to her."
Michelle was hesitant but let her in when she heard Andy say that Vic could come in from her desk. Michelle opened the door for Vic.
"I gotta get going, Andy. I'll call you in a couple of hours." Michelle told her, giving her a quick hug before walking out of the office, closing the office door as she left.
Once the door closed Andy got up and walked up past Vic to close the blinds in her office.
"Andy, I am so sorry. I should've just shut up and not gone along with Travis' dumb questions. We never push each other like that and it was wrong. You know what Robert said was just meant to hurt you. Right? And him mentioning Ryan" Vic sees Andy's face change, "was uncalled for."
"Vic, it's fine. It was going to come out eventually." Andy laughed at the irony of her words. "I'm glad it's finally out. I can finally stop hiding my full self from them." Andy walks up to Vic and grabs her hands. "Vic, what do you want to do next?"
"I-" Vic started when they heard the door open and saw Travis walk in.
"Hey, cap- oh my god."
"Montgomery, get in and close the door." Andy said, firmly.
Travis, still in shock, closed the door and turned to face her captain and Vic. "Do I want to know how long..whatever this is..has been going on?"
"It's new Trav"
"Only a couple weeks."
"Yet you said you're in love with someone?" Travis paced "wait. Just as I was walking into the beanery you said "I've never loved someone like this before." Is it because Vic is a woman, or because you're just learning how to fully love someone? Love unlike Ryan or Robert?"
Andy lets go of Vic's hands and walks around to her desk and sits down. "First off, I'm really tired of how many people are bringing up Ryan today." Andy said, understandably angry. "Second, I think it's partly because she's a woman, but also because I'm letting my guard down fully with her. Something I've never felt I could do much before." Andy told him, not used to being vulnerable.
Vic smiles, knowing that this was a step in the right direction for her girlfriend.
"Trav, we're still figuring things out ourselves. That's why we didn't want to tell anyone. Plus there's the fact that if we do come out I'll lose my job, Vic will get suspended and investigated and the last thing I want is for her to lose her job too."
Vic looked at Andy, surprised since they've never had this conversation. "Wait, you could lose your job?"
"It's like Ripley and Sullivan, Vic. Marriage is the only way around it." Travis told her.
Andy and Vic looked at each other.
"You have to be kidding me? You guys just told me you've only been together for a couple weeks" Travis looks at Vic "also, we've had this conversation before, Vic. a quick marriage won't solve anything."
"Travis, I know. But this just feels different. And no, not just because she's a woman."
"We've thought about it the entirety of our relationship. When we wake up, when we go to bed, sometimes during shifts when we get back from a difficult call." Andy paused "we know it'd be rushed, but I want this. And I know Vic feels the same."
"I don't know why you two keep doing this. It's like you have the same twisted ideals."
"Ever think that's why we work? That we both have the same mindset. The same vision? Travis, you don't have to like this. But it's happening. We've both agreed." Vic told Travis, grabbing Andy's hand.
"You know what? I'm glad you two are happy after all the drama in your life, but I wouldn't be surprised if this blows back on you. Especially since I'd hate to see you hurt by Andy, Vic. All she does is leave a trail of broken hearts."
"Travis that was uncalled for." Vic said, feeling Andy's hand being pulled back and turned to look back at her. Concern etched on her face while Andy's was blank.
"Both of you should go. Chores haven't been done today since earlier in the beanery no one listened to me."
"Andy-" Vic tried.
"Now." Andy said in a tone that neither had heard before.
Vic and Andy watch as Travis leaves the office. Vic turns to look at Andy again and even though she wasn't looking at her Vic went up to her and gave her a kiss on the cheek before walking out of the office and into the barn to join everyone else stocking and cleaning the trucks.
Meanwhile their captain locked the door, went into her bunk room and closed that door too and just broke down, sobbing.
I know. I know. I need to stop hurting Andy. Don't worry. this is meant to be a *mostly* fluffy story so bare with me.
