Chapter Nine
It seems like this is my favourite story to update right now lol
Andy turns to Vic and smiles. Vic pulls Andy into a hug, knowing that it's still hard for Andy to think about her dad. They stay in the hug for five minutes when they hear a knock on the door. Andy looks at Vic, confused. "I wasn't expecting company so I have no clue who it is," Andy told Vic.
Andy goes to the door and opens it, surprised by her guests. "What are you two doing here?"
Andy was shocked to see Maya and Carina standing at her front door but invites them in.
"We wanted to check on you after yesterday," Maya told Andy. "We were out of line and I am so sorry."
Andy just looked at her. "Come on. We're your family, Andy. Just tell us who he is" Maya's words played back in her mind.
Andy looked at Vic before turning back to the couple. "Maya, you jumped in with everyone else when you could've stopped it," Andy told her, not wanting to hear her excuses right now.
Maya looked at her friend, guilty, and feeling bad about what happened. "Andy, I am so sor-"
"You already said that Maya." Andy spat back. "I don't want to hear your excuses."
"Andy, I'm sure what happened isn't-"
"Isn't what? A big deal?" Andy asked Carina sarcastically. "Carina, you have no idea how many people I've had judge me since the whole team pestered me after they overheard that I love someone," Andy told her, her voice shaky.
Carina looked at Andy, seeing that Andy was really hurt, but could tell it wasn't just because of what happened with Maya and the rest of the team in the beanery. "Andy? What else is going on?"
Andy and Vic looked at each other. Andy looked down, not wanting to tell anyone about what happened with her aunt last night.
"We had unexpected visitors last night and they may or may not have seen us making out through the hall." Carina and Maya look at each other, trying not to laugh at what Vic just told them.
"And? Is that all the info we get?" Maya asked, clearly wanting more.
Vic nods. "Yeah. Any other info stays between us and our visitors-"
"Oh shit." Andy suddenly blurted out and turned to Vic. "I need to talk to you quickly," Andy told her and before she could reply Andy grabbed her wrist and dragged her to the bedroom.
"Vic, what if my aunt tells someone?" Andy asked as soon as she closed the door, pacing back and forth in the room.
Vic looked at her girlfriend and started to wonder the same thing. "Andy.."
Andy stops on the spot, walks over to Vic and grabs her hands. "It's only been a couple of weeks, I know."
"Andy-"
"I know it'd be crazy." Andy starts to pace again. "I know people would look at us weird, judge us,-"
"Andy, can you please calm down?" Vic tried to stop her girlfriend.
"I think that might be the only option we have."
Vic walks to Andy and grabs her shoulders. "Andy!" Andy looks at Vic, tears in her eyes. "It is crazy, but I don't want your own aunt to ruin your chance at being captain," Vic told her, moving her hands from Andy's shoulders to grab her hands.
"So what do we do?" Andy asked, sounding defeated.
"We call Warren," Vic said. Andy looks Vic in the eyes and nods. Knowing that Ben is still certified since he did Maya and Carina's wedding.
The couple make their way out of the room after calling Ben, telling him to come to her apartment with the book used for officiating weddings telling him that
"Does anyone care to explain what just happened?" Maya asked, confused.
Andy and Vic look at each other and smile.
"We may or may not be getting married." Andy blurted out. She looked at Carina and then Maya, taking note of their shocked faces. "Yeah. I know. But my aunt and cousin were the ones who stopped by and I don't know if my aunt is going to tell the wrong person or if the news will spread and eventually would get around the department and then to Ross and I just want to make sure neither of us get suspended or fired and that I don't get demoted." Andy continued, trying to explain the reasoning.
Maya smiles while Carina looks shocked.
"Yeah, I know it's a shock but I don't want to lose my job and I definitely don't want to lose Vic." Andy held Vic's hands, smiling before turning back to the couple. "I know you two just came over but right now I'd like this to just be between me and Vic and no one else. I'll call you later." Andy told them, trying to shoo them out of the apartment. Once they say bye and leave, Andy turns to face Vic.
"Andy, are you sure you want to do this?" Vic asked, wanting to ensure that this wouldn't be something Andy would regret.
Andy smiles, teeth showing. "I'm sure. Stay right here." Andy told Vic, rushing off to her bedroom Andy comes back with two boxes and gets down on one knee. "I know we're only been dating for two weeks and I know there are things we still have yet to know about each other but I know that we have both seen each other at our worst and our love hasn't wavered." Andy smiles, tears in her eyes. "Vic, I don't know why it took us so long to find our way to each other as more than friends but I do know that I do not want to lose you. I don't want to waste another minute not being able to publicly call you mine." Andy wipes a stray tear off of her cheek. "I love you, Victoria Hughes. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you." Andy grabs Vic's left hand. "Vic, Will you marry me?" Andy asked as she opened one of the boxes and it showed a beautiful one carrot diamond silver ring. Vic gasped and covered her mouth, eyes watering.
"Yes, a hundred times yes," Vic said, a few tears falling as Andy slipped the ring on her finger. "Wow. it's beautiful Andy." Vic pulled Andy up and connected their lips. "When did you have time to get this?" Vic asked, still in awe of how beautiful the ring is.
"I actually just got it a couple of days ago." Andy picked up the other box that sat on the floor and opened it, showing Vic what was in it. Two silver rings were revealed. "I figured we'd need these too."
"Wow." was all Vic could get out.
"I know this is a lot, Vic. We can wait if you want. I can-"
Vic cuts Andy off. "No, it's okay. I want this. I want you." Vic pulls Andy into a kiss and wraps a hand around Andy's neck, deepening the kiss before pulling back a few moments later and resting her forehead on Andy's. Trying to get their breathing back under control they hear a knock at the door. "How about you go get changed into a pretty dress and I'll go let Warren in?"
Andy nods and turns to go to the bedroom while Vic goes to the door to let Warren in.
"So, how are we doing this? Are we doing vows or just a quick "I do"?" Ben asked Vic.
"I know I have a lot of things to say but I don't know about Andy," Vic told Ben. "I just want to say that I appreciate this so much Ben. I hope we didn't interrupt anything?"
"No, you didn't. Tuck and Joey are at a friend's and Miranda is working." Ben told her, putting down the bag he had brought with him.
Vic invited him to sit down while she goes to change. Vic gets into the bedroom and see's Andy in a beautiful baby blue dress, her hair brought up into a messy bun and her breath gets caught in her throat. "Wow." is all Vic is able to say.
Andy smiles softly and tells Vic that she has a few of her dresses in her closet. When they were just friends they often spent time getting ready at each other's apartments. Vic went to the closet and saw that the dress she had worn to the firefighter's ball was still in the closet. She contemplated wearing it but thought otherwise when she saw her black spaghetti-strap dress. She quickly grabbed it, fixed her make-up, did her hair down and walked back to the living room.
"Wow." is all Andy could get out. Andy smiled and waited for Vic to come to her.
"You two are so gorgeous," Ben told them, smiling, and moving to stand in between them. "So are we doing vows or just saying "I do"?" Ben asked again.
"Vows," Andy said. "Oh, just let me set up the camera. I want to get this recorded." Andy told them, seeing the confused looks on their faces. Once Andy sets the video camera up and sets the timer she rushes over to Vic and holds her hands.
"Am I doing this like we're in front of a cr-" Before Ben could continue Andy interrupted and confirmed Ben's thoughts.
"On this day, in the year 2023, we are here to celebrate and witness the marriage of Victoria Hughes and Andrea Herrera." Ben started, smiling at the two women, trying not to feel awkward that it was just the three of them in the room right now. "This is not the beginning of a new relationship but the acknowledgment of the next chapter in their lives together. Victoria Hughes and Andrea Herrera have spent years as friends and getting to know each other and now we will bear to what their once friendship has become. Today, they will affirm their bond formally and publicly." Ben took a breath. "Victoria and Andrea will mark their transition as a couple not only by celebrating the love between themselves but by also celebrating the love between all of us- including the love of their parents, and extended family" Andy cringed at that and felt Vic squeeze her hands. "And best friends. Without that love, today would be far less joyous."
Andy and Vic smiled at each other before Ben continued,
"Do you, Andy, take, Vic to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in good times and not so good times, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto her as long as you both shall live?" Ben asked, looking at Andy.
Andy with tears in her eyes "I do."
"Do you, Vic, take Andy to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in good times and not so good times, for richer or poorer keeping yourself unto her for as long as you both shall live?" Ben turned to Vic.
Vic let a tear escape her eye. "I do."
"A ring is an unbroken circle, with ends that have been joined together, and it represents your union. It is a symbol of infinity and of your infinite love. When you look at these rings on your hands, be reminded of this moment. your commitment, and the love you now feel for each other." Ben paused, grabbing the box with the wedding bands in it. "I understand you have both written your own vows?"
"To be honest no," Andy spoke for the both of them, laughing. "But we can improvise."
"Alright. Andy let's start with you." Ben grins
"Victora Hughes, the day I met you and became your friend I never thought this is where we would end up but I am so glad that all of life's events and challenges have led me to you." Andy smiled a watery smile. "It may have taken me years to realize that the love I have for you is strong of a friendship, but I wouldn't change it for anything knowing this is where we ended up. I hope to give you everything you deserve every moment of every day because it's what you deserve." A tear falls down one of Andy's cheeks. "I can never thank you enough for everything you've done for me. You are my friend, my true love, my soulmate. You are MY person. I thank you for walking into my life that day at the fire station as a nervous probie, anxious to learn everything you could." Andy takes a breath. "Together we will continue to grow, we will continue to learn from our mistakes, get mad but move on, cry but have each other's shoulder to cry on. I will continue to love you now and forever." Andy concluded.
Vic had a couple of tears fall down her cheeks. "You always were a hard act to follow," Vic said, trying to lighten the moment. "Andrea Herrera, I promise to be faithful to you. I promise to love you, commit to you and support you." Vic had to pause to get her breathing under control "Sorry, sorry."
"It's okay. Take your time." Andy told Vic, squeezing her hands.
"Where was I? Oh, right. You have shown me what love feels like and for that I thank you. You are everything I need and more. I know all my dreams have come true. I promise to be here forever and always. My heart will be your shelter and my arms will be your home. I will be your safe place, the place you can feel free to feel more than anywhere else. I will continue to love you now and forever." Vic finished, tears now drying on her cheeks, hands gripping Andy's tightly.
Bringing Andy and Vic out of their little bubble "And now, Andy, place the ring on Vic's finger and repeat after me." Ben spoke.
Andy grabs one of the rings. "Vic, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love with the pledge: to love you today, tomorrow, always and forever." Andy slid the ring onto Vic's finger, joining the engagement ring.
"And now, Vic, place the ring on Andy's finger and repeat after me:"
Vic grabs the single ring left in the box. "Andy, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love with the pledge: to love you today, tomorrow, always and forever," Vic said, sliding the ring onto Andy's finger.
"Before these witnesses, you have pledged to be joined in marriage. You have now sealed this pledge with your wedding rings. By the power vested in me and the great state of Washington, I now pronounce you wife and wife! You can now kiss the bride." Ben concluded and watched Andy and Vic kiss, quickly pulling out his phone he stepped back and took a picture of the now-married, couple. When Vic and Andy separate they hear Ben clapping. Andy lets go of Vic's hands.
"Thank you so much, Ben. You have no idea how much this means to us," Andy told him, hugging him, Vic joining in after a few seconds.
"Don't forget to send us that picture!" Vic exclaimed.
"Anything you for two," Ben told them, pulling out of the hug and going to turn the camera off. "That was the wedding ceremony between Victoria Hughes and Andrea Herrera. Congrats to the happy couple!" Ben said and then turned the camera off. Turning back to the pair he said his goodbye and left the apartment.
"So," Vic said. "We have work tomorrow, so how about we have our own little honeymoon here and now?" Vic asked, a grin on her face.
Andy grins back and pulls Vic into a heated kiss. Andy reaches under Vic's legs and carries her to the bedroom. Putting Vic down on the bed she smiles, kisses her and then pulls back. "I love you, Victoria Hughes."
"I love you too, Andrea Herrera."
TBH was drinking some while writing this so I am so sorry if it sucks. In case you didn't know(I think my age is only posted on Wattpad) I'm 23 and I live in Canada so I have been drinking since I was 19 lol. But anyways, I'm so unsure of this chapter 😥
Also, this story seems to be taking on a life of its own cuz I just expected this to be a one-shot lol.
