Hermione stalked into her underground hide out. This was getting insane! She'd managed to come up with the perfect evil plan to take over the world and he'd stopped her again! How the bloody well was Detective Severus Snape always one step ahead of her?

"I need a way to keep him out of the way," she muttered. "I need him to be so distracted that I can make my move without him interfering. But how?" she mused.

Killing him would solve nothing and only bring more unwanted attention to her. Besides, he was kind of cute to watch as he worked out her plans. No, no time for that nonsense! She was a villain, she was the great and powerful Brain.

No, there had to be another way to throw Snape off his game and take over the world. Now, she just needed a new plan, and a plan to deal with Snape during said plan. She walked over to the planning table, unrolled several large sheets of parchment and looked at them.

"Failed, stupid, more stupid, won't work, hmmm," she grumbled, tossing page after page aside.

"This one might work, now, to deal with Detective tall, dark and handsome," she stated. She wrote down several ideas to deal with Snape. Each one making her scowl.

"Why? Why can't he just leave me in peace and let me take over the world? It would be such a better place anyway," she commented before giving up on ideas. She flopped down on the sofa, flipped on the telly, and rolled her brown eyes. A romantic comedy was playing, one of the ones where the girl always gets the guy in the end. Hermione was about to change the channel when she realized just how distracted the boy in film was.

"Distracted, not paying attention... hmm, love does odd things to the mind," she commented. "If I made Snape fall in love with me, well not The Brain, but me... that would throw him off his game. He wouldn't even realize what I was up to until it was too late!" she exclaimed, jumping from the sofa. Now all she had to do was make Snape fall head over heels in love with her.

That should be easy. She knew everything about him. She knew he loved long walks on the beach in the moonlight, he hated idiots, his favorite color was black, and he liked his coffee with only sugar. This was going to be easy.

Severus glanced in the mirror and sighed. He knew she was up to something again. He could feel her plotting in the back of his mind. He wondered if she realized they were linked, if she remembered their past lives at all. He didn't think so.

If she did, she'd realize this was pointless. He would always know what she was up to, her life coming to him in flashes, in dreams. Severus wondered if Hermione dreamed about him at all. This was the first time in millennia that they had ever been on opposite sides of the law.
"I will save you," he vowed, looking out at the darkening sky. Tonight was a good night to walk the shores, see the way the algae illuminated the waters. He wished Hermione could see it with him. Maybe, she would remember the first time they saw it?

"What is this, it shines!"

"A type of organism, it has something in that makes it light up in the dark. See how it looks as though it is the water glowing?"

"This is beautiful, this night is beautiful, does it ever have to end?"

"It never has to end, my love." The kiss felt powerful, passionate, as a shooting star shot across the sky.

Since that night, Severus and Hermione had never been separated, they died, they rose with their memories intact, buried, but still there.

Severus shook his head. That night had of course ended, but there had been many more like it, never quite the same, never having the same unbridled passion. He wondered if they would ever get that back, or if they were doomed to spend every life time searching for something that no longer existed.

The cool night air brushed against Hermione's face as she stepped out of her home. She had her plans, all perfectly laid. She had a feeling it would be a good night to see if she could catch Snape on the beach. The draw of the water was hard to ignore tonight. She wondered why she felt drawn to it, but often dismissed those thoughts.

She smiled as she walked. This was going well already. If he was there, she could put everything into motion. She glanced up at the indigo colored sky. A shooting star cut across the clouds. Hermione stared at it, something tugging at the edge of her thoughts. She hated these almost thoughts. They came and went, sometimes she swore they were memories, but she knew that was impossible.

Shaking all of the thoughts from her head, she stepped onto the cool sand. The gentle breeze blew her hair slightly. Further down the beach she could see a lone figure. A tall figure looking out at the waves. Hermione smiled. He was here after all. She closed the distance easily enough.

"Good night for star gazing," she commented once she was close enough for him to hear her.

"Yes, but look out at the water, see how it glows?" he answered. Hermione felt her breath catch in her chest. The water was illuminated by the algae. She'd forgotten it was that season again.

"It is beautiful," she commented. "I'm Hermione, by the way."

Severus looked over at her, at the curve of her mouth, at the brown curls framing her face. He smiled. She didn't know him in this life, she didn't recognize him yet. That would change.

"Severus," he replied.

"That's an interesting name, old fashioned."

"Yes, it's been in my family for generations," he answered. "Would you care to walk with me?" he asked. Hermione nodded, trying to keep the smile from her face. This was working perfectly. Severus seemed interested in her. All she had to do was make him fall enough in love it completely distracted him from finding out what her plans were.

Together they walked the shoreline, Severus pointing out things he knew Hermione would find interesting. She realized their fingers kept brushing together, how he'd stop and wait for her to catch up if she fell behind.

"What do you do, Severus?" she asked, already knowing the answer. He paused, looking at her.

"I'm a detective."

"That must be interesting."

"It is, quite a mental challenge, of course, the invention of all these modern technologies does cut down on that. Having an arch rival does bring back some of the challenge, though."

"Arch rival?" Hermione asked. Surely he couldn't be talking about her. There was barely anything there, he was always ahead of her. She smiled though, thinking about how much fun challenging things were. She hated doing things the easy way, loved trying to solve a good mystery, save for when it came to figuring out why she had memories that made no sense.

"A lovely young lady who calls herself 'The Brain'. She is brilliant, beautiful, and the only thing this life seems to offer that is worth anything."

"This life, you act as though there have been others," Hermione commented, trying not to blush at being called brilliant and beautiful.

"There have been, Hermione. Thousands of lives we have lived together, lives you don't remember," he whispered too softly for Hermione to hear. She turned to him as another star shot across the sky. The algae glowed in the water as something in the back of Hermione's memories floated to the surface. Within seconds, her hands were cupping Severus' face, her lips locked with his as everything started flooding back.

Severus was caught off guard as Hermione kissed him, the passion reigniting between them. Slowly the kiss broke and Hermione looked into his eyes.

"You knew who I was all along, you knew my moves because we're connected, how could I not see it before?" she asked, looking at him.

"You hadn't awakened yet, and I was unsure how to go about it this time around. You chose a path where you would constantly be clashing with me and I knew I need to protect you from yourself, and this world from you, my love."

"I set out tonight to make you fall in love with me, to distract you from my latest world conquering plan, looks like I might have failed."

"I was already in love with you, my Hermione. Now, that you know the truth, do you still want to conquer the world, we could you know."

"No," Hermione paused. "I don't think so, I think that I've already conquered one world, ours," she stated, kissing Severus passionately again. The sky and sea glowing behind them.
