The strings were always there, most people just couldn't see them. That was where her whole problem began. She could see them, an annoying side effect of a medical procedure. She could see Harry's leading to Draco, could see the string that bound her parents, but hers... hers was different. She couldn't see who it led to, it went upwards, towards the sky and didn't stop there.

That didn't stop Hermione. She knew there were so many things out there. She knew there was a manned station on the moon, there was a manned satellite circling the plant, and she knew there was life on other planets.

She'd seen a UFO as a child. No one believed her of course, but she knew what she'd seen. It had been a deep purple light in the sky, almost black matching the night. It had hovered in the sky above her parents' house and then vanished when she looked away.

She'd seen the ship since then too. Once it had been in the distance while she'd been outside trick or treating. The last time, she'd been walking back to her dorm and she swear it had zoomed off. No one believed her any of the times she had seen it. They'd gone as far as to have her examined, have her mind examined.

There was nothing wrong with her mind or her eyes. Only now because they'd done something to them, she could see all these stupid red strings. She smiled looking at hers. It went so far that it disappeared into the stars. The ship was up there, waiting for her. She was certain of that.

She'd joined the space program as soon as she graduated, she was smart enough to be an asset. It wasn't until her thirtieth birthday that she finally got what she wanted though. She was standing on the roof of the building, waiting for yet another meteor shower to start. They were becoming more and more common. Some people said it was the end of the world.

Hermione didn't believe them. She knew what it was. It was small particles of dust and debris entering the atmosphere along with a certain black ship. She aimed her telescope up, following the direction of her red string. She blinked, when the line swooped upon itself leading back to her roof. She held her breath as she turned.

The ship was hovering just above the building. There was a beam of bright green light. Then, standing in front of her was a man. He was wearing a black space suit with green and silver accents. She took a step towards him. He removed his helmet revealing pale skin, long dark hair, and a hesitant smile.

"Good evening, Miss Hermione. My name is Severus of the planet Snape. I have ventured to your world in search of my soulmate. I believe you to be her. I have observed you as you grew, afraid to make contact before you were matured," he said in a velvety voice. Hermione nodded, slowly returning his smile.

"I've seen your ship, Severus. I am glad you finally decided to make contact." She held up her wrist, the red string leading straight to him. He did the same and she saw his string connecting to hers.

"It is written the, we are matched," he stated, walking over to her. She nearly threw her arms around him as their lips met. The sky exploded in a shower of meteorites as the pair kissed, finally meeting and fulfilling the soul bond.
