Severus stared up at the stars. Everyone he knew was gone, killed in one way or another. He was the sole survivor of the original human race. Even though he knew he wasn't fully human. He'd been forced into the Death Eater program as soon as he'd graduated school.

They'd been trying to develop a way to conquer a race of aliens. The only problem being this race hailed from too far away to effectively fight a war. They needed humans to be able to live for long periods in space.

Severus had been pulled into the program by his mentor, Lucius. The trials had gone well, but slowly it became obvious that things weren't going as planned. Subjects started dying, so they tweaked the formula. Severus had gotten caught between the new and old, injected with the chemicals.

He knew there could be side affects, that there would be side affects. He'd never thought one of them would be that he couldn't die. Now, here he was, centuries old and still looking like he had in his twenties. He'd been stationed here so long, the world had forgotten him. He was fine with that, everyone he'd known, everyone he'd loved was dead anyway.

Hermione yanked the piece of metal from the asteroid and sighed. She'd been reduced to rubbish collector. If she'd only kept her mouth shut in front of the counsel, then maybe, just maybe she would have been able to get a seat finally. She would have finally made a difference.

It didn't matter. She was little more than a slave at this point, a member of a race long gone. She cursed realizing the metal had pierced the fabric of her gloves. Cursing still, she pulled the star map looking for the nearest place she could land and fix herself.

There was moon on edge of the system, abandoned like everything else in this Merlin forsaken system. She wrapped her exposed hand as well as she could and put on the thrusters of her boots, heading that direction. She landed in a cloud of dust, thankful this moon had some atmosphere. She glanced around, seeing nothing. She hadn't expected to see anything, but company would always be welcome. She pulled the repair kit from her bag and started working on fixing the silver material of her glove.

Severus blinked. There was a shadow outside his home. There shouldn't be any shadows. He grabbed his laser and made his way outside, stopping in shock at seeing a humanoid sitting on the ground holding its hand. He slowly made his way towards them. Keeping his aim steady, just in case, he reached the visitor.

"Who are you?" he demanded, his voice rough from lack of use. She, the person was obviously a she, looked up at him. He nearly dropped his weapon at her face. She was a human!

"I could ask you the same question. This moon is listed as abandoned."

"Severus Snape, I was part of the Death Eater program, centuries ago," he explained. Her mouth dropped open, staring at him.

"It gave you immortality, I thought... I was the only one! The Phoenix Program was made as a counter to that, a new way of thinking. They apparently didn't think far enough from the original plans. They failed in the same manner. I'm Hermione Granger, and I think, you and I might just well be the last real humans left alive."

"Then we have much to talk about, would you care to join me for a cup of warm Grogg, Miss Granger?"

"I'd be delighted to, Severus," she answered, giving him a warm smile and following him back to his home.
