This is for the 30 days of music challenge
Prompt: 1. Introducing Me - Nick Jonas
Word count: 590
Severus stared at the form Lucius wanted him to fill out. Dating profile, it screamed. He sighed. Lucius was right about one thing, Severus had not been out with another person in a romantic way since they'd been in school. Maybe he was right, maybe it was time for Severus to stick his toes into the proverbial dating pool.
"This is pointless," he grumbled, summoning a quill. He dipped it into the crystal inkwell of the darkest black ink he could find.
Favorite thing to do?
"Brew potions," he jotted down.
Favorite food?
Severus paused. He'd never given that much thought. There were things he liked to eat, but most of the time he ate whatever was served in the Great Hall.
"Chips," he said, a slight smile crossing his face as he thought about a bag of greasy chips, the salt and grease sticking to his fingers.
Something you enjoy doing that sets you apart?
"That is easy," he said. "Reading, most of these dunderheads wouldn't know a book if it feel on them," he grumbled, thinking about the current first years. This batch seemed dumber than the usual one somehow. He'd already dealt with three separate explosions in as many days.
What are you looking for in a date?
"Someone who is intelligent, who can hold a conversation, who isn't intimidated by me," he wrote without thinking. He was tired of everyone skirting around him because of who he was, because of his reputation, because he was a war hero.
Favorite word?
"Dunderhead," he laughed softly. Was it telling that one of his favorite words was an insult? "Brilliant," he added, thinking about the few people who he would dare use that word to describe. Lucius, yes. Minerva, also yes. Hermione Granger... her name flew into his mind unbidden. Frowning he tried to shake her from his thoughts. She'd graduated a few years ago and while he did make a habit of following the gossip, he knew she was currently single again.
"No, she doesn't matter, she's got her own life to live," he muttered, turning his attention back to the stupid form before him.
Describe you ideal date?
"Dinner, where we get to know each other, afterwards, maybe a book shop or library. We pick a book and read together," he wrote, thinking about how telling that could be about his date. Would he let her pick the book, or if he picked, would she disagree. He wondered what kind of books Hermione read? There she was again, in his thoughts. He bit back a smirk, he could see them together in a book shop arguing about the merits of first editions verses a reprint. He blinked, realizing that Lucius was right. He did need to get back out there, but this was no the way to do it. He crumbled up the form, the ink smearing on his hand.
He jotted a quick letter to Hermione, asking her if she would be interested in meeting at Flourish and Blotts over the holidays. Sending it off, Severus allowed himself a smile. Hermione was everything he would look for in a match, brilliant, intelligent, able to carry a conversation about something other than herself, and she would most likely be very amicable to a date in a bookshop.
He only had to wait about half an hour before his owl returned, a response tied to his leg. Severus took the parchment, unrolled it and nearly let out a sound of delight at the answer of yes, what time?
