It all fell down,
fell down
in a way we never saw coming.
Thought no one could ever destroy
the love we'd built.
Thought we'd built something the darkness could never touch.
Lies and rumors
tumble, tumble, from lose lips.
A slight glance,
a lingering touch,
and suddenly we're under scrutiny.
Suddenly the world is watching
our every move.
Thought our love was stronger,
thought our love could take it,
could take anything they said.
Accusations flew like winged weapons,
accusations of what you were
about what you did when I was too young.
Despite our words,
vows and promises,
the damage was done.
There was a wedge.
The world was watching.
Distance grew,
hints of worry,
hints of fear.
It all fell down,
one night, one day.
We were both broken,
both healing,
and we needed each other,
and the world broke around us.
The world shattered,
no longer safe,
no longer loving.
A lingering touch as we kissed
good-bye,
promising that maybe, maybe
the world could change,
and once again,
we could feel safe in each others
arms.
