Severus blinked at the potion bubbling in the cauldron. He'd never expected something he brewed to shimmer, to shine like the sun. It was the palest pink, with a shimmer of blue, maybe violet. He hadn't meant to do it, hadn't meant to brew something so different. This wasn't useful in the slightest, it was supposed to be something else, but in a moment of anger, he'd lost control and now... Now he had this.

"What can it do?" Hermione asked, leaning in the doorway. She always showed up when Severus was brewing, having been thrown decades into the past, she had somehow latched onto him. He wasn't complaining. The witch was brilliant, funny, and actually liked him for who he was.

"I have no idea. It wasn't supposed to turn out like this."

"Then we've got to test it, somewhere safe of course, but what's the point if we don't? Maybe it does something incredible, something the world's never seen before," Hermione pointed out. "I mean, you're the best brewer I know, and don't even try to tell me that Slughorn's better, we both know that's a lie."

"It is!"

"For now," Hermione shrugged. Severus ignored her. She did this from time to time, mentioned something that hadn't happened yet. He didn't want to know, well, he did, but he knew better.

"Where could we test this that'd be safe?" he mused, thinking about every part of the school. If it was something that exploded, he didn't think it was, but it could be...it would have to be somewhere where no one would get hurt.

` "What was it supposed to be, before you changed it?"

"An allergy potion," Severus replied. "It's nearly spring and the amount of students who seem to suffer from seasonal allergies is quite annoying."

"Then I doubt it's dangerous. How about outside, by the lake? If it does something bad, we can use the water to wash it off, or vanish it?"

"Fine, that sounds safe enough, just as long as you're not suggesting either of us ingest it."

"That was it's original point though, so maybe?"

"I'll steal a bezoar," Severus muttered, knowing Hermione was probably right and the potion might have to be ingested to work.

"I'll find a good spot while you do that, and don't worry, I'm sure whatever it does is going to be brilliant," Hermione stated, giving Severus a quick kiss on the lips before slipping out of the classroom. He watched her walking out the door, her robes swishing around her ankles. Severus grabbed the bezoar, ladled some of the strange potion into several vials and headed after her.

"Over here," Hermione's voice called. She'd found a quiet spot near a large open area. Severus had to admit it was a good spot. There wasn't any large vegetation that could be damaged if something exploded. The lake was near enough they could siphon water if they needed to.

"Perfect" he stated, standing next to her. He drew one of the vials from the pocket of his robes. Carefully, he let a few drops fall to the ground. For a moment, it seemed as though nothing was going to happen.

"Maybe we do need to ingest it," Hermione suggested, watching the patch of dirt.

"May-" Severus started to agree when the ground beneath them shook slightly. Hermione's eyes widened and she grabbed Severus' hand with her own. They watched as the barren spot suddenly split open and flowers rapidly grew and bloomed where there had once been nothing. The flowers spread a bit, nearly covering the whole small field. There were also some trees, trees that towered over Severus and Hermione.

"Apparently it grows flowers and trees," Hermione said, once the pair had managed to get over their shock.

"Non native flowers, these appear to be several species native to South and Central America, none magical though," Severus replied, studying the flowers. He recognized most of them from a book he'd been researching. "These are jacarandas, that's a fig tree over there," he pointed out.

"Wow, if you can make this happen, make these grow here, what else can you do?" Hermione asked, picking a handful of petals and tossing them into the air, letting them float down around the pair.

"I... I don't know," Severus admitted. "I always thought I should only brew things that were useful, that had a purpose, but this-"

"Is almost purely pretty?" Hermione asked, touching her hand to the trunk of a tree that had sprouted from the potion. "Although, Professor Sprout might have a use for this, we should get her!"

"In a moment," Severus said, walking through the tiny forest he'd created. "I think, maybe we should just marvel in this for a moment, at the fact I did this, that I somehow created all of this,"

"I agree," Hermione said, wrapping an arm around his waist as they looked at the new world they'd created.
