"Have you seen the paper this morning?" Severus asked. Hermione shook her head.
"No? Should I have?"
"Only if you want to start the morning off incredibly angry," Severus answered, holding up the printed sheet. Hermione's face when white when she saw the image on the front page; her and Severus holding hands at the Ministry's latest ball. They were both laughing, smiling. Photograph Hermione kissed Severus on the cheek.
"Skeeter?" she asked, half hoping the answer would be no. If it was yes, it meant the reporter hadn't kept her word and would have to be dealt with.
"No, worse," Severus answered, handing Hermione the page. Her eyes scanned the article and before she'd even reached the end, the whole paper ended up bursting into flames. Her eyes glowed with anger. Severus poured her a cup of coffee.
"Molly? I thought, she... she treated me like a daughter!"
"And when you and her idiot spawn broke up, when you decided you'd rather be with someone how challenged you intellectually?"
"I...how could she say these things? Why would they even print them?" she asked, tears starting to build in her eyes. Severus could still see part of the headline, the part that talked about him being a predator and Hermione being his...he shuddered thinking about what they were implying.
"Because small minds have nothing better to do with their time," Severus replied, sweeping the ashes of the paper into the rubbish bin. Hermione picked up the cup of coffee he'd poured her and took a sip.
"What are we going to do? We both know it's rubbish, that nothing happened. We both know you didn't...do that, that you didn't potion me, or take advantage of me. Nothing happened!"
"I know this and you know this, and Miss Lovegood knows this, and that is why I have already owled her about printing an interview about the article to be printed in the next edition of the Quibbler. I am sure the ministry will either pretend to investigate this or sweep the whole thing under the proverbal rug. Potter's still head of the aurors, is he not?"
"He is." Hermione let out a sigh. "And he knows the truth about us. When would we even have had time...I mean, I was on the run, you were at the school. We didn't even see each other until the battle. I swear, I am going to hex Molly Weasley into next week for sending them this nonsense!"
"It's already done, I mean, hexing Mum might be a new low for me, but saying those things, yeah," Ginny's voice announced from the floo in the living room. Hermione looked at Severus.
"I did tell you I owled Miss Lovegood, looks like she brought Miss Weasley with her," he said with a smile. Hermione's shoulders relaxed a little. Severus was right, they did have people on their side, and in the end, they'd be the ones whose truth prevailed and all Molly Weasley would be is someone who liked to say horrible untruthful things.
