Morning was the same where ever they were. He'd rise before Hermione, start brewing the coffee, she'd wake, grumble something about food, and take a cup of coffee. Traveling was not what he'd expected it to be, it was different in so many small ways.

First off, he'd never thought he'd have a companion. He had always counted on his gruff personality to drive anyone away that wasn't serious. Second, most people dislike him and the idea of spending time with him, any length of time, was enough to chase them off.

Hermione wasn't like that. She liked him, truly liked him, no, she didn't just like him, she loved him. She loved him more than she'd ever admit. He didn't understand how she could feel that way about him. He wasn't attractive, although neither was she in the conventional sense. No, her brilliance was what made Severus fall in love with her, the passion she had for her projects, the drive he'd only ever seen in himself.

She wanted results and she wasn't afraid of what she had to do to get there. The annoying eleven year old who had waved her hand in the air, who had followed every rule, who had lectured those that didn't was gone. She was something else now, someone who had had enough of the world telling her what to do. That was what he loved about her, that had been the reason he'd invited her to come with him on his summer travels.

Together, they were an unstoppable force, brilliance and passion merged to tackle even the most difficult problems. That was why she now wore his ring, why she laughed when she took the cup of coffee every morning, because together, they were something Severus had never expected, together, they were were happy.
