A/N: I don't own Harry Potter or any related characters

This is for the 30 Days of Music Challenge, prompt: 26. "Let's write a song that we can dance to" ~ Jersy - Mayday Parade

word count: 490

"I do not dance, Miss Granger," Severus stated, looking at the young witch standing in front of him.

"I know you say you don't, but Viktor's gone off somewhere and Ron's being a prat and not noticing me," Hermione sighed, leaning against the wall. Severus fought the urge to take points from Gryffindor for her existence.

"I do not see how this is my problem. I am neither your friend nor someone who actually cares about you."

"But if we were to dance, just one song, Ron would notice and he'd notice me. He didn't even ask me, you know, thought we'd just go together, like no one else would want to go with me."

"Did I ask for your teenaged drama?"

"Please? I asked Draco and he told me 'no' as well."

"A bit of advice, Miss Granger, a boy like Mister Weasley is a complete dunderhead when it comes to anything involving rational thought. Even if I were to dance with you, he would not notice, he's too busy shoving food into his mouth anyway," Severus commented, nodding to the table where the food was. He was right. Ron was shoving something into his mouth, then saying something to Harry, spraying crumbs everywhere.

"I see your point, Sir. Thank you though," she said, sighing before walking off. Severus shook his head. One of these days he hoped these dunderheads wouldn't involve him in their nonsense, but he had a feeling that day might never come.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

"Care to dance?"

Severus almost pretended he didn't hear her. It had been a year since the war had ended and he'd survived against his own wishes. Miss Granger had done the same.

"I think we've already had this discussion, years ago."

"You remember that?"

"Yes, I do. Now, go dance with Mister Weasley, he's noticed you by this point."

"A little too much," Hermione whispered. "We were just dancing, his hands...well, they have a habit of wandering."

"And this is my problem how exactly?"

"It isn't, I just thought, it might be nice to dance with someone who isn't interested in groping me, or stepping on my feet," she added, glancing over at Neville.

"And what makes you think I don't want to grope you, Miss Granger?"

"Do you?"

"No."

"Exactly, one dance, show Ron that I'm not his, that I've got options?" she offered. "Not that you and I...could ever be anything, but Ron's a bit thick about that."

"Nothing changes," Severus muttered.

"Is that a 'no'?"

"One dance," Severus agreed finally, following Hermione onto the dance floor. He had to admit, she was a decent dancer, one that was light on her feet, one that had a sense of rhythm. The song ended almost too soon. Hermione stepped back.

"Thank you, Sir," she said, giving him a smile before heading back towards her friends. Severus watched her, wondering if she'd say 'yes' if he asked her for another dance?
