The fresh mountain air was something Severus had never given much thought about. But he stood there, breathing it in, the cold filling his chest. He could see his own breath when he exhaled. The climb up the mountain hadn't been too difficult. The fact the view was so incredible made him forget about it entirely.
"Lovely isn't it?" Hermione asked, reaching over and taking his hand, their gloves contrasting. His were black as was his coat, hat, scarf. Hers were a bright teal. He smiled at her, ignoring the fact the tip of his nose was a bit cold. They were far enough from any people that either of them could cast a warming charm if they desired. Although, he had to admit, feeling the cold, the rawness of it, really did contribute to the whole experience.
"It is, I never thought about coming here, about living long enough to see the world," he said, looking out at vast sky before them. From here, he could see a small lake in the distance, could see a few of the other mountains in this range. A black speck moved through the air, some sort of bird of prey he realized. He watched it a moment.
"I know, but now we can see it together," she said, returning his smile. "Climbing a mountain was always on my list of things I wanted to do, I just never believed I'd find someone who would enjoy it as much as me, who would want to listen to me reading the hiking guide and pointing out every single interesting tree."
"As long as you didn't mind me telling you what uses each one had as a potion ingredient," Severus laughed. "Look, I think that might a hawk?"
"As long as it's not an owl," she replied, watching the bird with him, both of them enjoying the others company as nature moved around them.
