(I'm not entirely sure how long the journey from New York to Wisconsin would have taken by train in 1912 but online it says around 32ish hours so I'm going to go with that for the sake of the story)
19th April, 1912
"Rose" Jack shook Rose gently as she slept "what time is it?" Rose groaned "5.30" he whispered "why the hell are you waking me up Jack?" She frowned "I've just been downstairs and there is a train at 7am. We'll make it to the station with enough time to get breakfast if we get up now" he said "fine" Rose sighed and pulled herself out of bed "do I have time to get in the shower?" She asked "if you can be ready and in within 30 minutes, yes" he chuckled. "Challenge accepted" Rose raised an eyebrow as she grabbed her stuff and walked in to the bathroom.
Jack woke Lily up once he was changed and helped her get ready. "Daddy?" Lily said as Jack did her hair- a skill he'd become advanced in since Lily's mother left. "Yes darling?" He replied "what's the place we're going to like?" She asked "well, it's not that busy, it's a very friendly place, there's parks and lots of places to run around, and shops. I think you'll love it" he reassured her "will I have my own bedroom?" She asked "yes darling" he nodded and kissed the top of her head as he finished the plat just as Rose walked out of the bathroom. "Grab your coat Lil's, we need to leave in a minute" Lily nodded and ran to the cupboard, pulling out her navy coat and putting it on- well attempting to… she had put the wrong arm in the wrong sleeve. Rose chuckled a little and walked over to her "let me help you" she said as she helped Lily put the right arm in the sleeve "thank you" Lily smiled. "Let's go" Jack said as he passed Lily Lucky and picked up the bag that had their spare clothes in before holding the door open for Rose and Lily.
—
They left the inn around 6am once they had thanked the woman at reception and headed to the station. Lily was surprised by how busy it was given how early it was… she couldn't tell the time, but the sun was still rising outside so knew it wasn't day time yet.
"It's busy!" Lily said surprised, holding Rose's hand as they stood to the side whilst Jack bought the train tickets "that's cities for you darling" Rose chuckled. "Got them" Jack said as he held the tickets up with a smile. "Let's go grab something to eat before we board the train" he smiled and led them over to a little cafe.
Once the 3 of them had eaten, Jack picked Lily up a comic before he went to pick up a paper, but all the headlines were of Titanic. He sighed and put it down "I don't think we need to depress ourselves with that". Considering what he and the girls had just been through (especially him) the 3 of them were coping relatively well.
—
They boarded the train and made their way the carriage, Jack was grateful that the money they had from the Titanic survivors fund had enough for them to afford cabin, meaning they might get some proper rest on the journey. "How long does it take to get to the place, Daddy?" Lily asked as she sat down "around 32 hours" Jack said, already tired at the thought of it "how long is that?" Lily asked "just under a day and a half" Rose replied with a small smile as the train began to leave "that's a longggggg time!" Lily said "indeed it is" Jack nodded. "How about you try and get a little more sleep? You didn't go to bed til late and you were up early this morning" he said "OK" Lily said, she was quite tired so happy with the suggestion.
Rose leant in to Jack's side as she looked out the window as the train left the city "I'm looking forward to seeing where you grew up" she said to Jack "it's very homely, it was a great place to be a kid… I hope you and Lil like it" he smiled gently "I'm sure we'll love it" she nodded. "And what about this dog that Lily wants?" Rose chuckled. Jack rolled his eyes jokingly "we're not getting a dog for AT LEAST a few months, but I'm not sold on the idea at all at the moment" he chuckled as she yawned. "Why don't you try and get some sleep as well? I think I will… we're all tired" he smiled gently "you're right" she nodded as she lay down.

20th April, 1912
4pm
The train pulled in to Chippewa Falls at 4pm the following day, the journey itself had taken exactly 32 hours, but an hour was added on due to stops.
"Here we are" Jack said as the train pulled in. "Let's go" he smiled as he held the cabin door open for Rose and Lily. He disembarked the train first before helping Rose off and lifting Lily off, who took Rose's hand- surprised by how quiet it was compared to New York… and all the other places she had lived.
They followed Jack out of the station. "How far is your house from here, daddy?" "It's just up the hill sweetheart, around 10 minutes" "OK" Lily replied.
—
"Here we go" Jack said as he opened the small wooden gate to a front garden, at the end of the path was a rather large house- it was much bigger than Rose had imagined, and much bigger than Lily had even seen before. "Wow…" Lily said as she took hold of Jack's hand, as well as Rose's.
"Home sweet home" Jack said, a faint smile as he looked at the grass in front of him that he used to play on as a child. He took a deep breath, a little apprehensive to be back in the place he grew up, but led Rose and Lily up to the front door regardless.
