Please, allow me this quick Author's note before getting to the final chapter of My Mistborn Academia Season One.
Another year has come and gone. And while I did not write as many chapters as last time, I do feel that they got better. (Actually, looking over them now, I think I spent this entire past year doing the USJ Attack story. Whoops.) And I'm sorry if that was a let down. But… to be honest, I was not prepared for the events that happened this past year. Moving… College… a breakup… it just all seemed to pile on.
But that's no excuse! I promise that after this episode is uploaded, and I redo all the old chapters (see Metal like Roses for example), I will be working better and faster than before! But I am moving again XD This time to England. Yay!
That's enough about me. We are here to talk about MMA! This Fic is now two, two, years old! Holy crap that is amazing. I never thought I'd get this to 1 year, much less 2! And, hilariously/ironically, this is chapter 16 and ends the season where it started. A perfect circle.
This story now has over 50 Favorites and almost 100 Follows! That is honestly fantastic. So I'd like to thank everyone from Bruno Zaigot to LordDeadwing (my first and most recent Followers), from lawrence3830 to LordDeadwing (first and most recent Favorites, and even Bruno Zaigot to xFel's awesome reviews that just keep making me want to write more and more!
It really does mean the world to me :) Here's to another year!

Shortly after Shigaraki made his retreat, reinforcements finally arrived. Led by Iida, every single teacher at UA stormed into the USJ prepared for a fight. But, to their surprise, they only found the remnants of one.
"Vice-President of class 1-A," he yelled. "Tenya Iida! Reporting for duty!"
He was greeted with silence.
Then, a voice yelled, "You're late, Four-eyes!"
The Pro-Heroes then split up, searching for the missing students that hadn't yet regrouped at the plaza or center. The Flood, Ruins, and Landslide Zones were the only ones empty. Though when the police arrived, they did spend a lot of time chiseling out a large number of trapped villains from when Todoroki was there.
Thanks to Snipe (and his Quirk, Homing), the remaining villains that hadn't yet been defeated were swiftly taken care of. Kaminari was rescued from the clutches of the electrical villain. Bullets that were fired from the entryway of the building flew through the Mountain Zone's canyons and hit the villain in his shoulders.
Momo and Jiro gasped in shock but then sighed in relief as Snipe revealed himself to them.
"Well them ne'er do-wells gonna get wrangled without the leader of thar posy," he said in a strange accent.
In the Inferno Zone, Ojiro was relieved to see the flames finally begin to die. He had taken down all of the attackers but had gotten stuck in one of the buildings that was covered in fire. Power Loader used his Iron Claws to rupture a water line. Then, after connecting it to his suit, he rained it down across the entire zone.
This would also shut off the rain in the Storm Zone. With their enemies defeated, Tokoyami and Kouda lay on their backs, panting. The unconscious bodies of their villains lay around them.
"Grrr," Hound Dog growled as he sniffed around. "That seems to be everyone. Good job you two-oooooo!" His compliment devolved into a loud howl, causing Kouda to flinch.
Dark Shadow, in his own way, rolled his eyes. "Yeah, we know. This better means we get a long weekend off."
The remaining Heroes assisted with the rescue, transportation, and questioning of the remaining students.
After Midoriya ran back to help Vin, Tsuyu was helped by Uraraka. Thanks to her Quirk, carrying the semi-conscious body of Aizawa was easy. Shuzenji immediately got to work, plastering kisses all over him. Soon after, a medical vehicle arrived and took him away.
The only other person who required medical assistance was standing frozen. Vin and Midoriya, the only ones who knew his secret, noticed that the smoke from All Might's attack seemed to mix with something else around him. Each could see from different experiences that the steam around him was an exhalation of his own power.
Thankfully, Cementoss used his abilities to form a partition and protected the Hero's secret.
"We need to make sure all of you students are safe and accounted for," he explained. "Please head back to the entrance. I'll deal with the wounded."
Kirishima, more than the others, nodded and rushed over there. Todoroki and Bakugou were more hesitant and both reacted with surprise at the sight of all the Pro-Heroes.
Todoroki nodded as they began up the stairs. "All of our teachers… looks like there was no attack on the school."
Tired and sore, Bakugou mustered a growl but remained silent.
The only two remaining, Vin and Midoriya, both moved away from the entrance. The latter tried to make his way to his teacher and father figure, but, not knowing about their relationship, Cementoss blocked his passage as well.
Smiling, he said, "I need you to head back. Please."
All Might's voice whispered from over the large cement block now between them. "You saved them, Young Midoriya. And you saved me. Again. I am proud of you."
Tears fell down the boy's face. Unlike normally, though, these were born of joy and pride. "I'm so glad you're okay!" he said before heading back towards the entrance.
Vin moved back to the Flood Zone. Without tin, she carefully scanned the entire lake. But it had gone still and almost seemed to reflect the world on its surface.
"Hagakure?" she asked.
No response. Not so much as a ripple in the water.
Can she swim? Did she hit her head? What if- Vin's mind froze mid-panic as she noticed a small section of the beach darker than the rest of it. Wet and dark, a line drew from the water and up to an indentation.
"Hey, Vin," she said. Thanks to the water droplets, Vin could see her waving her arm at her. "That was awesome!"
Instead of responding, the young Mistborn crawled over to her teammate and wrapped her in a hug. "Thank you for the forgotten," she whispered.
Hagakure timidly patted Vin's back. "Vin? What's this about?"
She didn't respond. She hugged the girl tighter for a moment, before stepping back. A part of her was confused. What was she doing?
"I was worried about you."
"It was just a little splash," Hagakure said. "I'm a big girl. I can swim pretty well too."
Vin gave a small smile and held out a hand. "Maybe you can teach me sometime. But let's go. Our friends are waiting."
Yokohama, a city just south of Japan, sports over forty-nine bars. In these bars, men and women, Mutants, Emitters, and Transformers, and even a few Quirkless people enjoy the taste of alcohol down their throats.
They laugh. They complain. Some drink small while others drink too much.
But in one, a pair of villains resided.
Purple smoke began to pour in from seemingly nowhere. The warp gate soon appeared and, from it, out slid the injured body of Shigaraki. Hands still covered his body as he crawled across the floor, moving to where a screen, microphone, and camera were placed on a podium.
"Ow," he hissed. "We got crushed. And they got Nomu too. Our cannon fodder was taken down super easily. Those kids were too strong. And the Symbol of Peace is in perfect health! You were wrong, Master!"
"No, I wasn't." Like always, Master's voice was both electronic yet aged. There was a history and a deepness to it. As if a record player was speaking; technology yet ancient. "We merely got ahead of ourselves. Yes, we underestimated him. It is fortunate that those 'villains' were bought so cheaply. But what happened with our creation? Did you retrieve Nomu?"
Now reformed, Kurogiri's 'true' body was now visible. He was still a creature of smoke, but his form was now snapped into a well-priced suit. His collar, though dented, shone proudly and he bowed in front of the screen. "He was sent flying. And without knowing his exact coordinates, my warping will be useless to find him. There wasn't enough time while we were there."
"After all that trouble to make him as strong as All Might…"
"Strong," Shigaraki repeated. Even though he wasn't truly injured, he had yet to rise from the floor. "Yeah, they were. There were two kids that didn't belong. A boy that had the strength of All Might."
"Oh? And what of the other?" Master's voice, like always, didn't betray what he was thinking. He never sounded concerned or worried. More like… intrigued.
Shigaraki clenched his fist. "A girl. She moved like a Pro and would kill too. Without those pests… We could have killed All Might!"
Master was silent for a moment. "No use crying over spilled milk," he said. "But this wasn't a complete loss. We have more information than before. Find stronger troops. Take all the time you need! We cannot yet move freely. That is why we need you to be our symbol.
"Tomura Shigaraki! Soon the world will know the terror you represent!"
"Looks like they're all unharmed."
While the Pro-Heroes did have everything under control, local police were quickly called in. Dozens of black-and-white vehicles surrounded the USJ with even more officers swarming the area. To Vin's distaste, the cars were equipped with loud sound boxes and blinding lights. They had turned off the siren, but, occasionally, the lights still hit her eyes and made her flinch.
"Momo!" Hagakure called out as she and Vin exited the building. "You're okay!"
The girl smiled and quickly ran over. Jiro, who was standing next to Momo, rushed over as well. "Hagakure. Vin. I'm glad to see you both made it. When we were transported, I was worried that you might have even been in a situation like we were."
Hagakure, who now had her gloves and boots on, waved her hand up and down. "Aww, thanks. But I got teamed up with Todoroki. He took out all of our bad guys."
"Yikes." Ojiro, who was standing nearby, turned to the four girls. "I thought everyone was alone like me. I got put into the Inferno dome. I only survived thanks to hit-and-run tactics."
Vin nodded. "Probably best for your situation."
The boy blushed. "Thanks."
"What about you, Vin?" Jiro asked. "Momo and I - and Kaminari - ended up in the Mountain Zone."
"Midoriya, Tsuyu, and I were dropped into the water," she frowned. "They pulled me out and onto the boat. Then we made our way to the plaza."
"Wait. Hold up," Kaminari interrupted. He and Kirishima joined the huddle of students. "Pulled you out? You can't swim?"
Vin cursed the fact her cheeks flushed so easily at that fact.
"Miss 'I can take down everyone here and help take down the leader of the villains' can't swim?!" He started to laugh.
Jiro used one of her ear-lobe jacks to stab his throat. The boy began to choke and cough, falling to the ground and clutching his throat. "This is coming from the idiot who got himself captured and was completely useless after one attack."
Now it was his turn to blush. "It was Momo's plan. And you know how my Quirk works. Not my fault you didn't stop me."
She rolled her eyes and stopped Momo from bowing. "Don't listen to him. Your plan was great."
"Thank you," Momo smiled. "I wish we could have been more useful. Six of you got the honor of fighting besides All Might."
Kirishima smiled. "It was awesome! He was so manly! Punch after punch after punch! I could even see half of them!"
Nodding so quickly that the air began to shimmer, Hagakure let out a loud squeal. "I know, right? Midoriya was practically thrown into a wall from it!"
Wait, Vin realized. Where is Midoriya? She moved to the front of the crowd, where Uraraka and Iida were talking with one of the policemen. Probably the leader, based on his clothing.
"If you wouldn't mind, please return to your classroom," he said. "We'll take your statements there or even later. But for now, we need to ensure your safety."
Uraraka clutched her chest. "But Deku is missing! He was here for one minute and now he's gone."
"He's being transported back to Recovery Girl's office," the small voice of Nezu explained. He waddled forward and patted her foot. "There was a concern that his bones might have been broken again, so we sent him ahead. And I thought it would be best if someone went with All Might to ensure he didn't try and help someone on their way there."
Uraraka sighed. "That's good… I mean, not good that he might be hurt but good that he is okay and on his way to the nurse's office!"
However, Vin was less appeased. Most likely, Midoriya wouldn't leave his mentor's side. Or started crying.
I can't tell which is more likely.
"I actually have business there as well," the man said. He nodded to Nezu and tipped his hat. "If you have any questions, please ask officer Sansa."
Another police… cat stepped forward. Sometimes, Vin couldn't wrap her mind around how bizarre people here could be. A man with a feline head walked up to the kids and smiled. "Anything I can help with?"
"I have a question," Tsuyu croaked. "About Mr. Aizawa…"
Sansa sighed. "Both of his arms were broken to splinters. His entire face is fractured but, thankfully, there doesn't seem to be any sign of brain damage. But… his eye sockets were pulverized. There is a high chance that he may have long-term eye damage. At least, that's what I heard over the radio."
If only I was faster, Vin thought. I could have helped him. Or if I went with him when he first jumped down…
"Thirteen has lacerations all across her back and upper arms. But her life isn't in danger," he continued. "All Might's injuries aren't life-threatening either. He'll be fine."
Nezu rubbed the bottom of his snout. "After this, we'll need to completely revamp our school's security. It might even be time to reopen the dorms…"
Suddenly, the black box on Sansa's shoulder crackled. "We have apprehended the villain-creature described as 'Nomu'," it said. "Four hundred meters from your position, in a thicket. It - he? - is unarmed and is not resisting arrest. It's strange, he's not responding at all… like a remote-controlled toy without the remote."
Vin's eye twitched and she slowly snuck her way back to Momo. Since she had left, Aoyama had joined and was pestering her friends, asking them if they could, "Guess where I was." Ignoring him, Vin grabbed Momo's arm and pulled her to the side.
"I need your help," she whispered.
Frowning, Momo cocked her head to the side. "What's wrong? The fight is over."
"There's something I need to check. But I need some metals." Vin stared up into Momo's eyes. "Please."
Recovery Girl sighed after placing a kiss on All Might's arm. "With the situation being what it is… I don't think I can blame you."
Sighing and bandaged, All Might, or rather, Toshinori Yagi, as he was no longer holding his 'muscles form', did his best to keep still in his cot. The once mighty Hero didn't look very mighty anymore. His entire body seemed to be covered in white bandages. And since they were built for those much smaller than he, Yagi's feet stuck out of the bottom of the blankets.
With how often I'm in here, I should have my own special-sized bed.
"All Might," Midoriya whispered, tears still bubbling in his eyes. "I'm so sorry. I-I-I couldn't do anything to help and-"
Yagi groaned. "Young lad, you were just as heroic today as I ever was. Do not cry over my weakness." He hissed in pain as he lifted his hand into the air and clenched it. "I think I've probably shortened my time limit again. I'll be lucky to still get an hour a day."
"But you are the Symbol of Peace! You're a Hero. Japan's number one!"
"All Might is," he corrected. "And you, young Midoriya, are to be his successor. You are going to be a better hero than I ever could have been. You and all your friends."
Midoriya paused. Sitting to the side of his hero, he looked down and watched a few tears slip away onto his lap. "All of us? Even Vin?"
"Lady Vin? Of course. She is going to be a trusted ally. She's-"
"She's a killer!" Midoriya yelled. "She killed one of the villains! And she was going to do it again!"
Ah. I see.
Yagi did his best to sit up. "Lady Vin… is special. Unlike most of you kids, she's seen the true darkness that comes with villainy. Her upbringing has led her to believe that killing is not the last resort, but just the simplest tool."
"How could she, though? She didn't even seem to care! She just killed a guy then turned around and asked for another knife. She was confused that we were upset by it!" Midoriya stood up, his tears falling faster. He clenched his hands so hard that small droplets of blood began to drop from his palms.
"…" Unable to think of a good lie, Yagi did the best next thing. He told the truth.
"Do you know why she was admitted so quickly after that night you found her?"
Midoriya shook his head.
Closing his eyes, Yagi did his best to remember the events of that night. "You found her alone. Scared. Even scarred. Then you called me and we brought her here. That night, after you had left, she regained consciousness. She spoke of loneliness and pain, feelings that were more accustomed to her than love or happiness. She was lost with no friends or family. And, after a few days, we also learned of her more… darker tendencies.
"She was being given a psych-evaluation and was asked 'If you were given a button that would kill every villain in the world, would you press it?' She, of course, said yes. Now, this is nothing new. A lot of students would say so - young Bakugou, for instance. But there was no hesitation. And as we pressed on it further, she began to talk of her own sense of justice. There was little care in her heart for those she saw as her enemies.
"It caused quite an uproar. A good portion of the staff wanted to imprison her. It seemed to be the safest option."
Midoriya sniffled. "What did you say?"
"I, sadly, agreed. After all that I heard, I felt it would have been best to keep her somewhere safe. Not just from herself, but from us." The number-one Hero let a small tear roll down his eye. "I feel that one thought is punishing me every time I look at her. Scared and alone. Just… ignorant."
"What happened?"
"Eraserhead. He fought for her. Said she would be his personal responsibility. That we couldn't punish her for thinking the world is black and white. Instead, he proposed something heroic. Truly heroic."
"What's that?" Midoriya asked.
Yagi smiled. "'Save her,' he said. 'We will save her from herself.' This is a school for Heroes. To learn how to fight, help, and serve the people. But for Lady Vin, it is so much more. She will, and already has, learned to be better than the scum of this world. I have heard people say that the Hero schools turn children into weapons. But, in her case, it will be the opposite. We will turn her from a weapon to a child.
"We will give her a life worth loving."
"But… But how can I do that without seeing the blood on her hands?" Midoriya gulped. "All Might, I trusted her!"
"And you must continue to do so."
He shook his head. "No. I-I-I told her."
Yagi froze. Oh. Then it isn't hate or disgust that fills you, young Midoriya. "I see." he shook his head and let out a small chuckle. "What are you going to do? Things happen. You just have to take them the best way you can."
The tears streaming down Midoriya's face began to still. "But I told her! I told her about-" he whispered his next words "-One for All."
Turning to his young protégée, Yagi gave his best All Might smile. "And why must you blame yourself for that? Do not blame yourself. Lady Vin is a woman with a heart of a Hero. But, unlike yours, it simply needs to be dug out."
He tapped on Midoriya's chest.
"Your heroism is already shining. Share that light. Do not dispel it with guilt." He leaned back and let out a long sigh. "Now… let me… go…"
"All Might? All Might!" Midoriya grabbed his arm. "Don't go! Don't go into the light! Come back to us!"
"I'm not dying," Yogi laughed. "Just tired. Recovery Girl's healing requires time and energy. I just need a second to close my eyes."
"Surely you can keep them open for an old friend?"
Yagi's eyes did, in fact, fly open. Entering the room was one of the few he had trusted with the secret of his injury (though not the truth of his Quirk). "Tsukauchi!" he coughed, blood splurging through his teeth. "I didn't know you were here."
Midoriya began to panic. "Um, All Might, is it safe for him, you know, to, uh…"
"Of course it's fine!" he said. "This is my favorite detective on the force, good old Naomasa Tsukauchi!"
Tsukauchi rubbed the back of his head. "Thanks for the weird intro…"
Like I haven't done stranger.
"Actually," Tsukauchi continued, "I was hoping we could talk about the villain who attacked you today."
Yagi raised his hand. "Wait, I want to ask about the students first. Is everyone safe? And Aizawa! Thirteen?"
His friend let out a long sigh. "All of your students are fine. With the exception of some scrapes and bruises, there weren't many injuries to report among them. As for the Pro's, I just got word that they are no longer in any danger for now. If you three Heroes hadn't done what they did, I don't think the students would have made it out unscathed."
Physically, at least, Yagi sighed. "I see… but… you've got one thing wrong, Tsukauchi. In this fight, the students put their lives on the line too. To be thrown into such a violent fight, at such a young age, and survive, these students now know exactly how scary the world can and will be for them.
"Have you ever heard of such a class having such an experience? Those villains picked the wrong fight! Because the members of class 1-A are going to be mighty heroes indeed!"
Yagi smiled confidently and wrapped a hand around Midoriya's shoulder. "I will make sure of it."
Vin carefully bound across the tree line as she tailed the police car. Thankfully, Momo didn't question her reasons and gave her a fairly large bead of each metal she typically uses.
"I'd already memorized the specific alloys you need," she said. "In case you ever ran out. But you have to use it all."
Of course, she'd burn it all. What else was she going to use it for? And, only Vin knew this, she had to burn any metals in her stomach before she slept. It was dangerous if she didn't.
But so was jumping atop of trees. Iron, among others, was burning brightly in her stomach as she Pulled softly on the car below her. It wasn't enough to pull her at it, but enough for her to be tugged in its general direction. And with pewter, she kept herself, for the most part, airborne.
It reminded her of those strange toys she had seen the children playing with on the teevee. Her iron-line was the string. And she… Vin was the kite.
The drive took less than half an hour but was still long enough for Vin to worry. The metals she swallowed wouldn't last forever. And she would still need to get back to UA.
She also worried about her friends. Hagakure said she'd cover for her, whatever that meant, and would stall for as long as she could. It was still surprising to Vin that she would grow so attracted to the invisible girl. Damnation, she was growing attached to most of those she had spent the last week with. Momo, Jiro, Midoriya, and the other students were now her friends.
And Vin started to understand Aizawa's words. He wasn't telling her to leave them alone or that she had to be like them.
He wanted her to become an alloy. The better parts of two becoming one. The experience of her life on Scadrial and the connections she had, and would, make in Japan.
An alloy of self.
The car soon began to slow and Vin, trying to avoid being spotted, let go of her Pull and landed in a tree. Spitting out leaves, she climbed down slowly but was careful to remain out of sight. Unless someone was specifically looking up, they shouldn't be able to notice her.
She, however, could watch them easily.
From her position, Vin could see the Nomu creature being transported from a thicket and towards the road. The car Vin had trailed opened its rear doors, revealing a large cage. The Nomu was bound in dozens of different shackles. Ropes of metal connected to large silver plates wrapped around the creature. Leather cuffs were tied around its wrists with shackles keeping its hands locked.
Vin burned steel. Aluminum, she realized. But she couldn't focus on that now. She had to investigate that feeling from before. Snuffing all the flames inside of her, Vin grabbed two specific reserves. The first, zinc.
The second, duralumin.
Focusing all of her mental Allomantic ability on the Nomu, she tried to riot it. Certain creatures that resembled this one had a weakness back home. Emotional Allomancy could, with duralumin's push, control the creatures. Creatures like kandra.
Or koloss.
Vin's mind pressed hard against the Nomu's. Beneath her, it faltered slightly as it stepped forward. But it didn't stop. She Pushed against the creature's cognition but was unable to control it.
Sighing, she took a breath and leaned back. I don't know whether to be relieved or upset… Vin reached into her pocket and pulled out the second bead of duralumin Momo made for her. She then lit the steel she snuffed.
She wasn't able to test this until now, but apparently, if a metal wasn't burning, it wouldn't be doused by duralumin's boost. If she had known this trick even earlier in the fight, she might have been able to do more. But she couldn't risk the chance then.
But now she had the chance and was relieved to see the trick work. Whatever gave her the power to burn metals ignored them when they weren't being burned.
Somehow, Vin would use that to her advantage.
Steel, not iron, as she might need that later, burned proudly. By the names of every single god Sazed knows, I hope I'm wrong. She burned duralumin with steel. She Pushed the Push.
This deep in the forest, there weren't many steel-lines to be seen. The car was the biggest one, by far. But there were thin, almost invisible, ones connecting her to the officers beneath her. Their belt buckles, watches, glasses, and even zippers made them victims of a potential attack from an Allomancer.
But as the duralumin enhanced her steel-sight, everything grew brighter. For a brief second, she could have easily Pushed on a cuff link from this distance. The invisible lines became strong and thick.
But, to her horror, one appeared.
It was small. Minuscule. Probably impossible for her to Push on no matter how close she could get.
But it was there.
A small line connecting her to the Nomu. And while it wasn't visible, she knew exactly what it was.
Buried between the Nomu's shoulder blades was a small piece of metal. If someone were looking for it, they would have noticed something sharp poking from that area.
A spike.
Truly ancient evil is never truly considered. Ancient monsters like those of Lovecraftian or eldritch tales spoke of giant lizards destroying cities. Or krakens that could cover the entire ocean. Or stars that flickered like eyes.
But rarely do people think small.
In a place that rarely was lit, an evil lurked. A man who had lived longer than any other. He stood proudly in his workspace. Half-finished projects lay cast aside. Trophies decorated the walls. His tools rested on a table next to him. And screens covered one of the walls.
To him, they were repetitional. Floods. Global disasters. Bombings and shootings. Human disasters. Even stocks reflected patterns he had seen long before. But his focus was on one screen. A news report from earlier in the day.
Or was it this week? Month? For him, time wasn't much of a shackle to those he walked with today. He often got lost in it.
In this report, he could see a boy and a girl, covering their faces from the cameras, and pushing through the sea of reporters. The boy seemed… inconsequential. Green hair, large eyes, and the uniform of the UA Hero Academy.
But the girl… yes. It could be her. If memory serves. But how to know for certain? A test, perhaps? He looked up and noticed the date. Then, he chuckled. Ah, it comes soon. If they only knew how foolish it was to host an event like that. It is there that I shall find the truth.
Until then, I shall continue my work.
The man then reached up to turn off the screen. His arm, typically hidden beneath a sleeve of silk, became visible in the ghost of the light of electronics. Scars that covered it became seen. Scars that covered both arms. And more.
And, as the lights flickered off, this man smiled.
"Mistborn," he whispered.
