I do not own marvel.
He could tell something was wrong the moment she touched his hand, but she had clammed up and broke contact with him after she had seen whatever it was. He brushed his fingers over her cheeks and she looked up at him with saddened eyes. She had seen something she had never wanted to see, it seemed. He wanted to know what she had seen, but he was not going to press her for it. she would tell him when she was ready.
He looked back to Thor and his brother nodded at him. He brushed his fingers over her cheek once more before he turned to face Thor and followed him to the captain's seat in the front of the ship. Thor frowned and looked over to him as he sat down. "What did she see this time?" he asked and Loki raised a lone brow at his brother. Had she had these visions before? This confused him because she had never told him about any visions. "Not sure, she doesn't seem to want to talk about it." he said and Thor nodded with a sigh as they looked out into the depths of space.
"I will talk to her soon… she saw Hela coming. I don't think she realized it, but when I was in the throne room there was a picture of Hela there and I know she painted it." thro said and Loki tried to hide the mild surprise that skittered across his features. He briefly wondered what she had touched to have seen Hela. He looked back over to her and sighed; he had said some things while on Sakaar he wished he could take back…
"Regretting wanting to stay there now brother?" Thor asked and he resisted the urge to scowl at the blonde. Of course, he regretted it, who wouldn't regret it? how could he ever think he could drag Syndra out to a planet made of nothing but trash, she would either not follow him or follow him there and be miserable. He couldn't put her through anything that would make her be miserable. He turned to look out the window once more, only for a sinking feeling to fill his gut. The moment he looked out the front window he knew what Syndra had seen.
Thanos…
The ship began to rock as his ship began firing on theirs. He had never regretted anything more in his life. He thought about that damnable cube he had grabbed on the way out of Asgard and he cursed himself internally. He looked back to Thor and a frown lined his lips as he began rushing around to help everyone get to safety. Loki turned and began running around saving everyone he could, but bodies were piling up around him and fast. When about half of their people were dying and injured, Thanos boarded them and looked directly at him.
He continued cursing inwardly as he realized Thanos knew he had the Tessaract. Syndra's eyes were filled with such disappointment as he pulled the Tessaract out and offered it to Thanos. He had never meant to disappoint her but he had this horrible attraction to the blue objects of doom. He pursed his lips and bowed lightly to Thanos, offering his undying loyalty to the titan. He knew he was never going to work for Thanos again, he couldn't afford to. He had to do this… to ensure Syndra's safety… Which is why his blade slipped down out of his sleeve and he lunged for Thanos.
His eyes widened in surprised as the titan grabbed him by the throat and held him up off his feet. The more he struggled the more Thanos' grip got around his neck. The only thing he could hear was the sound of his heartbeat thumping in his ears. Thanos turned him to show him Syndra on her knees before them, tears flooding over her cheeks as she spoke. He couldn't hear anything she was saying, but when his eyes darted to Thanos the titan seemed to be listening to her intently.
Black spots began littering his vision and he looked back to her as he continued to struggle to get free. Continuously the grip tightened around his much smaller neck to the point he knew he could no longer get his fingers in to try and free himself. He stopped struggling and knew soon the darkness was going to consume him. He tried his best to get a little bit of air in his lungs, but to no avail. This was his end and she had seen it beforehand. He couldn't be mad at her for not trying to stop him though, because he probably would have tried to kill Thanos anyways.
His eyes fluttered shut as the darkness consumed him fully.
:-:-:
She watched it happen, Thanos snatched Loki up into the air like the man weighed nothing at all. Her heartbeat thumped within her chest as she rushed forward, her fingertips brushing over Loki's cloak as she fell to her hands and knees before the titan that held Loki. She couldn't hold back the tears or the sobs that escaped her as she begged and pleaded with Thanos to please let him go. "Please… Please don't kill him…" she pleaded as she crawled across the floor towards Thanos' feet to which he turned Loki around to watch her.
She met his gaze and her lips trembled as more tears streaked down over her cheeks. This was not how he was supposed to die… he was supposed to die later in life when he had lived a full life… she couldn't let him die this way. She crawled closer and grasped his pants leg gently as she continued to cry. She looked up at him and pleaded once more. "Please… I can't do this without him… I can't live without him…" She begged once more only to look up at him with tears in her eyes. "I love him…" she whispered and Thanos pulled her to her feet as Loki continued to struggle. He brushed the hair out of her face and wiped her tears away as he squeezed Loki once more and his form went limp.
"I'm sorry little one." Was all he said as he dropped Loki to the ground. He wasn't moving and all she could hear were Thor's screams as Thanos walked away from them. She sucked in a quick breath and crawled over to Loki's form where it lay crumpled face down in the floor. She rolled him onto his back and she placed her ear to his chest and prayed she heard anything at all. Just a small little heartbeat was all she begged to hear, but there was nothing…
She watched as Thanos held up his hand and purple flames began exploding out from all around them. She grabbed his body once she had seen Thor go flying out into space, she had to do this swiftly or else they would all perish here. Her ice trailed around them, constructing a barrier to protect them from the explosions. She had to save him while there was still time to do so. She began looking over his form assessing everything about him.
She slowly turned his head, his neck wasn't broken… her shoulders slumped, she didn't know what to do… he just wasn't breathing… she looked around and saw that they had all vacated the ship. She leaned and felt for a pulse once more, only to then remember what Stark and Pepper had taught her. She knew it worked on humans, as she had brought humans back before in this manner, she could only hope it would work on him as well. She folded her hands one over the other and began pressing down hard on his chest in rhythm. Every so often she would stop and lean forward to give him two breaths of air and once more check his pulse. But this didn't seem to be working and she found herself crying once more.
She leaned over him and tried once more, only for his daggers to begin to glow a brilliant green. His wounds began healing themselves and she placed her fingers to his neck, only to feel a soft pulse there. She bit her lip and buried her face in his chest as it began to rise and fall once more. She let out a scream of anguish, as she had been holding back all her emotions in her panic to try and get him breathing once more. She just couldn't seem to contain the fear and anguish any longer. She could see him breathing, she could feel his heartbeat, and yet she still couldn't stop crying…
It wasn't until twin trails of warmth brushed over her hand and she looked down at him with tear filled eyes. She bit her lip and her tears continued to pour down over her cheeks. She nuzzled her cheek against his and he managed a smile and a small laugh as she did so. "Turns out that was not a good idea." He said and she swatted him lightly as she glared at him with teary eyes. She began cursing at him in elvish and all he could do was laugh at her. Her lip began to tremble once more and she began swatting his shoulder once more.
He gently grabbed her wrists to stop her and he smiled up at her in amusement. "We never said I made good decisions, now did we dear?" he asked and she bit her lip as she shook her head. She couldn't find the words to say to him she was just filled with anger at his foolishness. And grief… she was filled with grief… she had almost lost him. She locked eyes with him once more as he struggled to sit up. She could tell he was still in pain and her heart ached that she couldn't help him with his pain.
He propped himself up on an elbow and looked over to her with a smug smile on his lips. "So, you love me, huh?" he asked and she wanted nothing more than to hit him once more, but instead she found her arms wrapped around him and she continued to cry into his shoulder. If the fact that she said she loved him was all he was worried about, she could let him worry about that. It would be something to ease his pain and comfort him in this time of loss. At least he had her… and his sense of humor.
"About time you said it back…" he sighed and ran a hand through his hair gently. she furrowed her brows and looked at him oddly as she pulled away from him, she had never once heard him say he loved her. He looked over to her and whispered that same phrase he had whispered many times before. "Jeg elsker deg." He offered a small smile as he said those words once more and she frowned. She didn't know what language that was, nor what it meant. She opened her mouth to speak but he pressed his lips against hers gently and said it once more.
"It means I love you… I learned that in Norway." He said and she nodded as she pulled away from him and looked around at the destruction around them. Bodies floated through the air while they sat within her ice sphere. The entire ship had gone up in the explosion and they were all left stranded, all of those who survived of course. She found a piece of scrap metal and she slowly helped pull Loki onto it, then herself. She sat there with his head in her lap as he rested to recover from his revival. She just continually brushed her fingers through his hair and whispered that it was going to be ok.
She couldn't honestly tell how long it had been before someone came through and began scanning through the wreckage. They stopped and picked up Thor's floating body, only to then leave them there floating in the depths of space. Her heart sank at the thought of being left here to die but hope soon returned to her when the Grandmaster's ship circled around and came over to them. "Syndra!" Valkyrie called out and she looked to see the woman holding out her hand to her.
She reached and grabbed her hand, pulling her and the floating scrap towards the ship. "I know you want to give him a proper burial, but you have to leave him behind." Valkyrie called out and Loki sat up, much to her surprise. "Bold of you to think I'm actually dead." He grumbled as he sat up a little more. He helped her get into the ship, only for her to then help him inside as well. She watched as he propped himself up against the wall of the ship and her heart sank. His blued skin and the petechiae of his eyes reminded her that he truly looked worse than he actually was. He had been deprived for oxygen for so long that his wounds couldn't fully heal when Odin's spell revived him.
She knew it would take some time for him to heal and she was going to give him that time, seeing as he looked much worse than when he normally got beat up. It seemed she had a cringe look to her when he looked over at her because he sighed and closed his eyes as he leaned against the wall. "I think I need a drink, and you probably need one just to look at me." He grumbled and she offered a sympathetic glance as she slumped against the wall beside him. She tucked into his side and her lip trembled once more.
She couldn't do this on her own… she looked over to him and her tears spilled over once more. She could have lost him forever if she hadn't acted as fast as she had. She still didn't know if there were any deficits, but she doubted that one. He seemed to be himself, which was a relief to her. She jolted lightly as his hand found hers and squeezed gently. She looked over to him and smiled softly as she leaned further into his side. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep as they flew. As to where they going, she didn't know, but she would be happier when they got there.
When she opened her eyes, she saw nothing but green pastures and wide ocean fronts. It was absolutely beautiful.
:-:-:-:
Loki sighed as he followed her down to one of the makeshift homes the Asgardians had set up. He made his way over to one with nearest the ocean and he looked back to Syndra to see that this one was the one she wanted. They walked inside and sat down against the wall. She looked over to him and offered him a sad smile, but he knew she was still disturbed by the way he looked. Hell he had been as well when he looked at himself in the reflection of the glass. He looked horrendous and he knew it was because of the lack of oxygen he had endured.
It would take some time to heal, but in the mean time he pulled an illusory spell and disguised his features the best he could. He knew she could still see through them if she tried, but at least this would put her at ease some. He reached over to her and she took his hand in her own, placing her forehead against the back of his hand as she began to cry all over again. He hated this… he hated that every time she looked at him she cried anymore. He could understand her fear of losing him, because he felt the same way about losing her.
He just wanted her tears to stop. He couldn't handle her crying because it tugged at his soul, her poor distressed cries echoed around in the tent and he knew it wasn't just for him. She was crying over the loss of all the Asgardians who hadn't been able to escape. She was crying for the loss of Asgard, and the fact that Thor was now missing. A frown crossed his lips as he sighed. Thor was going to fight with him all over again seeing as he had watched him die and now, he was once more alive.
He reached up and pinched the bridge of his nose. He didn't know how he was honestly going to explain it to Thor this time. He had no choice in his revival, but he supposed Syndra could be of assistance in that aspect. He looked back to her and she was now praying in Elvish and kissing the back of his hand. He didn't know what she was saying but he was sure that it was a prayer, seeing as every time she finished a phrase her lips met with the back of his hand once more. Perhaps she was praying for him.
He looked out the window of the small house and looked out over the ocean in all of its vast glory. He gently pulled his hand out of her grasp and pulled her to her feet. He knew she loved the ocean, so he figured she could use the distraction. He pulled her out and down to the water's edge, to which she slipped her feet into the depths of the water and stared up at the sky as the sun set over the horizon. She looked over at him and offered a small sad smile. He hated how pitiful she looked then, tears shining in her eyes and the trembling of her lips. She looked so utterly pitiful and sad.
"I'm sorry. I never should have touched it and I knew better." He whispered and she looked over to him once more. "Don't apologize… he was going to get the stone either way…" she whispered and he stared at her in shock. She had seen something other than his death? He wondered what it could be that had her so torn up if his death was thwarted… his eyes slipped shut and his head lulled down towards his hands. He knew what had her so torn up now…
She had seen Thanos with all of the stones.
"Tell me about it… I want to know what you saw…" he said softly and she nodded as she stared back up to the starry night sky. She began describing in detail about how many people would be lost when he did get all of the stones. He listened to her every word, thankful that Thor was not among the lost. He hated that he had been part of this. He hated every second he had worked under Thanos. She described to him everything that would happen, but one part made her tears begin all over again. When Thanos made half the population vanish he was amongst the group that vanished and the reasoning for that was… they both shared the same blood. The frost giant blood only had two members in the universe now, and it was him and her. she was the only one with dark elf blood so it was a given she wouldn't be snapped away…
He gripped her hand tighter and she continued to cry. This was the death she had seen when she held his hand, not the one where he had been choked to death by Thanos. She lunged and wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly. "I can't do this without you! I don't want to be alone without you in this world." She sobbed and he laughed lightly as he hugged her back. No one had ever wanted him around like she did. No one had ever endured his presence in the manner that she did.
"Then don't do it alone… we can spend what time we do have together." He said and she looked up at him. "It's not like I will be gone forever. I'm sure that Thor and the others will find some way to bring us back. I have faith in them." He said and she nodded lightly, only to capture his lips in a kiss. He raised a brow but kissed her back. He didn't know if there would ever be a way to bring them back, but he needed to give her hope for the future.
They made their way back up to the makeshift home and fell asleep in one another's arms. They were going to bide their time together until their very last moment.
