I don't own marvel.
Tears streaked over her cheeks once more, and she couldn't help but wonder if she had the ability to keep going without him. She knew deep down she could do it… but for how long? Over the last few years, she had gotten accustomed to his presence, and she hated coming to this spot every single day, hoping and praying to see him return to her. She knew it would take a while for him to come back, but she didn't know how long it would be.
She could wait for years if she had to, but she would rather not. Gentle blue eyes looked over at the illusion that sat beside her with his hand in her grasp. This is how she had been making it these last few weeks. She created an illusion of him to sit with her in silence, and others had noticed but no one had said a word. Just as none of them had told Thor that Loki had still lived. No one wanted to broach the topic with him because he had been absent and angry when he was around, which really wasn't often anymore.
She jumped lightly when a hand placed itself on her shoulder, so she looked up to be met with a familiar set of blue eyes and a hand being offered to her. She bit her lip and the tears started flowing freely once more. She just wanted him to come home. She released a cry of anguish and his arms wrapped around her. She knew he was here for a reason, and that reason was not to comfort her, but she couldn't help it. He had been one constant in her life since she had fled Jotunheim, so she desired the slightest bit of comfort from him.
When she finally stopped crying, she pulled away from him and apologized softly, to which he made a gentle comment. She smiled lightly at this and squashed down the urge to cry once more. "What is it that you require of me?" she asked, and he frowned at her. "I am going to the avengers. They have called a meeting and I want you to be there as well." Thor said and she nodded. She was fully prepared to be of assistance. "It would be my pleasure." she said and followed him to the vehicle that had been waiting for them. She could feel his rage seeping off of him in waves and she knew he had been harboring this since he had been brought back from space by the small raccoon fellow.
She had still yet to tell him that Loki would be back eventually. She hadn't told him that she had saved him as she didn't feel like this was the proper time to bring this up, so she slipped into the back seat and watched him as he stared out the window as they left New Asgard. She was silent the entire drive there as she listened to Thor speak with the man driving, whom of which she had yet to learn the name of.
After a few hours they pulled up to a large building where she saw some of them standing out in the front yard waiting for them. She saw Natasha and Cap standing there while some of the others she didn't fully recognize. The blonde woman who emanated confidence and power was one of those. Nat was now blonde, which she thought looked nice on the woman. The purple woman was another of those she did not recognize.
She followed the group inside and she listened as they all spoke amongst each other. Her eyes never once left the skinny and sickly-looking Tony though. She stood suddenly and she could feel everyone's eyes on her as she made her way over to him and pulled a chair up to sit beside him. "Syndra." he greeted, and she offered a small, saddened smile. "I see you are well; I was stranded in space." he said, and she released a small slightly amused laughter. "As was I. not a thrilling experience." she said and looked over to Thor and Rocket raccoon. "I watched Thor get picked up by the small fellow there and we were left until Valkyrie found us." she said, and he nodded.
"See guys, mutual bonding experience." Tony said and Syndra repressed another amused giggle. She hadn't meant to disturb the tense atmosphere of the room, but it needed to be done, if only temporarily. She listened to them as they discussed Thanos' location once more and she frowned as Cap and Tony began arguing. She knew they were all angry and it upset her to see them all this way, but she was also upset over the situation. Tony ended up sedated in another room and she could only frown.
It was understandable to be angry, just as Thor was. She kept getting more and more irate with the blonde woman, Marvel. She just continued to talk about how she was better, at least that's what she was getting from the woman. Overly confident and cocky is what she felt from this woman's personality. She didn't like that one bit. She felt as if the woman were too overconfident for her taste. Which is why when she walked off saying she was going to go kill Thanos and the others called her out on that she stood and agreed with them.
"He took everything from me!" she cried out and everyone in the room looked at her. Normally she would be embarrassed but she could feel no such way at the moment. The blonde woman had no emotion in her eyes as she opened her mouth to speak, but Nebula cut her off with a don't bother. Syndra was unamused with the blonde at this point. She just knew the woman was going to make a comment about how they had all lost something. She didn't want to hear it because what she had lost, she had fought years just to remotely have.
Nebula began telling them all about where Thanos would go, and she listened intently. Soon enough they all loaded up onto the ship and once they got settled in Rocket looked back and asked them all who hadn't been to space before. A few people raised their hands, and he looked disgusted as he said he would prefer they not throw up in his ship. She repressed her amusement at this, seeing as most people would indeed throw up when he hit the jump.
It was mostly silence on the ship as everyone endured the jump fairly well. It continued in silence as Marvel went down to go search for Thanos. A few small conversations started up here and there but other than that it was silence. Syndra watched Thor as he spun the handle of his axe in his grasp. She wondered what was going through his mind, but she stayed silent. She preferred not to join in conversation with him as she didn't want to get his hopes up for seeing his brother once more if it never happened. She knew it was supposed to, but he was also supposed to die on the ship, but she brought him back from that death.
Her thoughts drifted to her potential future daughter, and she sighed softly. The image of her blue eyes and bicolored hair lingered in her mind a little longer before they all exited the ship and made their way to where Thanos was hiding out. Syndra's attentions were brought back to the present with the sound of Marvel's voice saying there were no armies, no soldiers, no one but thanos himself. She honestly didn't feel like it was right to just be him, but who was she to interject those thoughts.
She tapped the amulet on her chest twice and her nanite armor spread across her form and she followed them out of the shit and down to the surface of the planet. Once she heard a yell from thanos she made her way inside to where they were holding him still after Thor had removed his arm with the gauntlet. She froze his feet in place so he couldn't move, and he looked over to her and a sympathetic glance coated his features.
"I truly am sorry little one." he said, and she felt the rage boil up in her as she stepped forward, but she was ushered back behind Thor as the others began asking him where the stones were. She could feel the air beginning to chill and she tried her best to contain her rage, but it was getting harder for her to do so with every given moment. "I used the stones to destroy the stones." That was all Thanos had to say before the chill intensified once more and she raised her hand to create her ice spear. Before she could make a move towards him, his head went rolling across the floor. "What did you do?" they asked, and Thor turned to face them once more.
"I went for the head."
Syndra made her way over to Thanos' head and resisted the urge to kick it in her anger. She then made her way over to the gauntlet and placed her hand upon it, hoping to be able to see anything. Her eyes fluttered shut and she took in the images that the gods were showing her. Images of banner in his other form flashed before her and he was sitting in the back of a truck coming through New Asgard. 'Syndra we are going back in time to get new stones.'
That was all she needed to see to be at peace, if only for a short time.
:-:
Five years had passed, and she had gone to their spot by the ocean every day, except for today… today she was following the truck that had brought in a familiar face. She rushed over to him, and he pulled her up into a hug. "Hello Banner." She greeted him as she hugged him back. He put her down and smiled at her. "What brings you?" she asked, and he explained to her that they had found a way to get new stones. Her heart fluttered the moment they said they were going to go back in time to get them and that they needed Thor's help. This was it... today was the day she had foreseen.
"I can help!" she said, and he looked at her oddly. As if he hadn't planned on asking her. She wanted to help, she had to do something other than sit around and play pretend house with the rest of the Asgardians. She knew that they were surviving as they were meant to be, but she was restless. It was something about the blood in her veins that ached for vengeance. Though… her vengeance was gotten when Thor killed Thanos. She felt as if there was something more she could do, and this was it. She reached and grabbed him by the much larger hand and frowned as he looked down at her.
"Please… let me help." She pleaded, and he smiled at her and patted her on the head with his other hand. "Welcome aboard, Syndra." He said and she nodded rapidly and rushed off to knock on Thor's door. They were right behind her and were shocked the moment the had seen the door creak open and darkness dwelled within. She sat back against the wall while they made their way inside and looked around. She knew it was going to be difficult to get him to come along, seeing as he had never wanted to fight that battle again. She looked in as they were talking and Thor seemed so happy to see them. Her heart ached for the man as she knew he was masking to not show how he really felt.
She didn't pity him, she felt the same way he felt, but she knew she needed to fight. The need to fight was weighing on her and she had to get in there and help out. She couldn't help but wonder if she had helped on the first attempt if things could have gone differently. She just wanted to be able to help this attempt so she could say she did something other than play house like she had done when she saw it coming. She regretted that, but she also didn't. Those were vital moments she would never have gotten to spend with him if she had gone and they had still failed.
She looked over and saw that Thor was still not wanting to help and she frowned. She needed him to go with her. If she were going to go back in time, she would go with him and Rocket. They finally managed to convince him to come, and she sighed in relief. She looked over to Thor and he seemed to be watching her as well. She took a deep breath and repressed the fearful shiver that rolled down her spine. She knew that if things went wrong, they would be fighting Thanos once more. She couldn't bear the thought of having to face him again, but she would if the need arose.
"Syndra… why did you stay behind before?" Thor asked out of nowhere and her form went rigid. She hadn't told him Loki hadn't been truly killed. She had kept that from him because she felt as if he had been going through enough already and that wouldn't influence any good decisions from the larger male. Not that he made a variety of those lately either way, but… she couldn't give him false hope. She sighed and slipped her eyes shut with a frown.
"I thought I was with child… turns out my visions were not as accurate as I had thought…" she whispered softly, only for him to frown and look off away from her, seemingly uncomfortable with the conversation now. She could understand why he would be uncomfortable either way. Now he knew what they had been doing behind closed doors and she knew he never wanted to picture that with her and his brother. She mused over this lightly, resisting the urge to laugh at his disgusted look. It was humorous to her at least.
When they pulled up to the building, everyone was bustling about bringing equipment inside and rushing around with other essential items. She was excited to see what they were doing, but more so, she was excited to see her friend once more, as she hadn't seen him since he had been brought back from space. She hopped out of the back of the truck and rushed inside, where she saw Tony dragging a piece of equipment around by what appeared to be a hose. "Stark!" she called out and he turned to face her with his typical smirk on his lips. She rushed over and hugged him.
Thor strolled past her with a can in his hands and cracked it open and began drinking. Tony gave him an odd look but said nothing about the man. It seemed they were none the wiser about his habits the last five years, but she couldn't blame them either way. How were they supposed to know Thor would fall into such a deep depression? They weren't supposed to know, but now that they did perhaps, they could help him out of it.
Once they gathered everything that they needed to get the machine up and going they did a test run. It felt like forever that Clint was gone, but the moment they brought him back he collapsed on the platform, which caused everyone to rush over to him, while they were all worrying about if he was ok or not, her eyes landed on the black object in his grasp. That alone sent a shiver of excitement down her spine. It could be done.
She gripped Thors's wrist gently and he looked down at her with curious eyes. She only smiled at him with tears in her eyes. He reached around her and ruffled her hair with his other hand. "You'll get to see him again if only for a moment. I promise." he said, and the tears spilled over her cheeks as she bit her lip to withhold the silent sob that tried to escape her. She didn't want to cry right now, as this was a joyous moment. She wanted nothing more than to be happy as she wandered the halls of Asgard once more to bring back everyone that was lost, including him.
"Thor there's something you should know about Loki..." She began and he shook his head at her. "No, I fear there's nothing I need to know about him anymore. I loved my brother, I still do... but I don't need to dwell on him right now..." He said and she nodded. The image of Loki flickered through her mind, and she sighed softly as she squeezed Thor's hand gently. "I... Understand..." she muttered softly, but she could only guess how he was going to react once Loki came back once more.
They made their way around the room handing out the suits and Syndra allowed it to wrap around her form. She wasn't a fan of the grey suit, but it would serve its purpose. She looked around at the group as they all stepped onto the platform this time. She could only hope this would go well seeing as the test run had gone well. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as They hit the button to send them back in time.
She could feel the time bending around her and making her feel as if she were on a ship during jump drive. When her feet finally touched the ground she slipped her eyes open and took in the glorious halls of Asgard once more. She felt the pain sting in her chest at the beauty of the place she was never supposed to see in her lifetime again. She reached out and touched one of the pillars and smiled as it was truly real and within her grasp.
She turned to see Thor and Rocket making their way down the corridor to find the Aether. They snuck throught the prison and her heart ached as she saw Loki and herself behind the force fields. She made a move to follow after Thor and Rocket only to turn back once more and see Loki peering at her in her armor with a curious glint, not that he would express that curiosity verbally, byut the side glance was all she needed to see to know she had caught his eye. That and the fact instead of sneaking she walked right past them as to not draw attention to their suspicious behavior.
"Oh, there's Jane..." Thor sighed wistfully as he stared down the hallways and to the doors at the end. Rocket began telling Thor what they were going to do when they got to her, but Syndra made her way back to the prison. She looked at herself within the four glass walls and she crouched in front of herself in the visage of Thor. Her past counterpart crawled over to the wall and placed her hands upon it, so she did it as well.
She knew she herself could see through the guise of her illusion, so she wasn't worried about Loki figuring it out. "Oh, dearest me..." she whispered as she looked into the saddened eyes of the battered woman that lay behind the wall. "You escaped Jotunheim, only to end up in a cell." she whispered to herself, and her past self only smiled softly. The trauma that she had been through living in Jotunheim was unbearable to think of. The only things that had protected her were her parents and when they passed the giants treated her harshly, as if she were the bane of their existence.
The light at the end of her tunnel was being freed from her icy prison by the brothers. She was sure she would have perished had it not been for the two fools destroying the ice crystal she had been frozen within. Albeit it was unintentional to free her from her prison of ice, they had done so when they had fought with the frost giants. Once the frost giants had learned she was free, she was sent into Asgard to help invade to make use of her, but she had surrendered on the spot. She didn't want to be part of their plans any longer. Not after everything they had put her through.
She could still see the sympathetic glance in Odin's lone eye as she begged before him on her hands and knees to spare her and save her from the Jotuns. She looked back to the woman before her who was scared of her own abilities. Syndra smiled at her past self as she reached up and pulled a familiar set of horns off her head and showed them to version before her. "You love him." she said, and her past self nodded softly. "Then do everything you can to save him. Your journey will be hard, but never give up and keep pushing through. One day you'll be with him. I promise you this." she said, and her past self's eyes widened and she pointed to the horns in her grasp.
Syndra nodded to her past self, and she could see the life flood her past version's eyes. "Me?" she asked and Syndra nodded as she placed her hands on the wall once more so her counterpart could place hers there too. "Fight hard, dearest me. You will deserve the reward if you do." she said and she stood and turned away from the wall only for three taps to resound throughout the silent prison. Fear trailed down her spine as she drug her eyes over to the source of the tapping.
"Thor come here." His voice was welcomed to her but absolutely terrifying to her in this moment as she worried that she had been caught. She knew he couldn't understand what the two of them were talking about seeing as though they had spoken in Elvish, but she suspected he knew it was her. She made her way over to him and he placed his hands on the wall and she resisted the urge to place her hands there with his and she knew he had seen the twitch of her hands as she had rushed to put them behind her back.
"Marvelous. Very good on the illusion, but you can drop it. I haven't taught you that skill yet." He mused and she sighed and dropped the visage of Thor completely. The widening of his eyes showed his shock at her appearance. She placed her hands up to the wall to where his were and her eyes slipped shut as she took in his warmth. The warmth she had missed for so long. "You're not from this time." he said, and she shook her head. "No, I'm not. I'm from the future and I'm trying to save it." she said, and he looked from her to the past version of herself.
"You clean up nice." he said and her past self blushed and she herself could feel the heat rising to her cheeks. "Who frees you?" he asked, and she smiled at him. "You do." she said softly, and he looked over to her past self and smirked. "You hear that, it's me that saves you. How befitting." he said, and her past self made her way over to the wall joining his and he turned to face her but didn't move from his place in front of her.
"Go on now dear... go save us all." he said and made his way over to the wall to sit in front of her past self and sat before her. Syndra could visibly tell how much he cared for her and how much he believed in her just by how he treated her. She had never doubted him but seeing him treat her past self so lovingly before he had even realized he had loved her was everything she needed to see. "Jeg elsker deg." she whispered softly, only to catch the flicker of his gaze land on her as she walked past.
She looked up the hallway to see Rocket tapping his foot at her, urging her to hurry. She rushed to get to him, and he crossed his arms over his chest. "I've already had to deal with Tubby weeping all over his mom, I don't need you doing the same thing over your imprisoned boy toy, get a move on!" He snapped, and she nodded. "Of course, forgive me." she said, only for him to sigh and uncross his arms. "Look I know this is hard for you both, but we have to get a move on or else we will miss our chance." he said, and she nodded. "Of course, forgive me." she whispered, and he motioned for her to follow him.
They made their way down the corridor and to Jane's room without incident. Rocket slipped in and moments later she heard a scream and Rocket came running out, soon after guards rushed around the corner chasing them. Syndra repressed a yelp and took off running as well. They ran down the corridors and slipped off onto a side hall that they heard Thor's voice coming from. She kidded to a stop and Rocket looked up at the woman before them. "You must be mom." is all he had to say.
Frigga looked over to Syndra and smiled brilliantly. "And you are not the Syndra I know. You are much more well-kept and glowing. So much livelier this way." she said and Syndra smiled at her. "We fell in love." Syndra said and Frigga smiled softly as she reached up and brushed her fingers over Syndra's cheeks like a caring mother. "I always knew you and Loki would..." she said and Syndra bit her lip and nodded. "You all take care dears... and Thor... eat a salad, please?" she asked and Thor nodded as they jumped through time once more.
Syndra held her head high when she touched down at the platform once more. She knew they could do this. They had to do this.
