Saturday, it was a relatively odd day for Lenny. Lenny felt like he wanted to sleep in regarding the entire ordeal of yesterday. However this was interrupted as someone was knocking on the door. After Lenny decided to get dressed he went over to see who it was that was banging on his door. He opened it up to see who it was.
Katawa Shoujo- Standing tall
"Hey there sleepy head you ready for some more running?" Emi asked. She had trekked all the way from her dorm to here. Lenny yawned as he thought it was still too early to be running about.
"Emi, did you come all the way here?" Lenny asked. He wanted to see what Emi was going to bring him here. Emi looked at Lenny as the boy's PE uniform was a little wrinkled, probably from not so proper storage.
"I wanted to take you to the park today, since we have the weekend to ourselves, we might as well get to know each other a little more." Emi told Lenny that they should spend their weekend together. Lenny began to think about it.
"Okay, we should. I hope it's not a very long winded run." Lenny expressed to Emi that he didn't want a repeat of yesterday. Emi's eyes sank a little before she looked at the floor. She didn't want a repeat of yesterday where Lenny nearly had to be hospitalized due to their little race. Emi looked up to Lenny as her smile was brighter than ever.
"Don't worry, there will be no instant replays." Emi promised. Lenny nodded as he and Emi left the room, they were going to spend their first full day outside of the school. Maybe the park wasn't going to be so bad after all.
Lenny and Emi made their way to the park's entrance which was on the school grounds. Emi was going slow for Lenny as they didn't want to trip on something. plus it made the conversation better as they walked along.
"Do you enjoy going on long walks?" Emi asked Lenny. Lenny was a bit distracted as the greenery around him seemed to be more inviting then Emi's question.
"Uh… sure." Lenny told Emi. Lenny began to think, he could surely come up with a better answer than that. It didn't help that he was distracted by the environment around him. Emi noticed the shrug in his voice as if he didn't seem to care or he wasn't paying attention.
"Good, I'll take you to my favorite spots in the park. I seem to have the entire thing memorized by heart. Plus it makes for a good place to practice track." Emi spoke to Lenny about the tour.
"Yeah I see." Lenny told Emi. They were paused as someone wanted to enter the conversation.
"Hey there Lenny and good to see you Emi." The voice told them.
Katawa Shoujo- School Days
"Hey there Mutou, lovely morning we're having." Lenny greeted Mutou. Mutou gave a small smile as he wanted to settle down and check up on Lenny.
"How are you doing? I came to check up on you and see how you are doing. I also see that Miss Ibarazaki is taking you for a walk." Mutou told Lenny that he just wanted to see how the latter was doing.
"Oh… I'm doing fine. Thanks for asking." Lenny told Mutou that he was doing well. Mutou nodded with a bit of an approval.
"I see. I got a report from the nurse that you've overexerted yourself and ended up passing out. I came to see you today as I wanted to tell you that you need to be more careful. I already have Hisao and I don't want two of my best students hospitalized." Mutou expressed his concern for Lenny and wanted to see if he was telling the truth.
"I ended up racing with Emi, I didn't want her to pull ahead and win." Lenny told Mutou what exactly happened on the track that day. Mutou looked up a bit before looking at Lenny.
"I'm glad you were honest with yourself." Mutou told Lenny. He held Lenny's left hand as the heart monitor was taking a reading of his vitals to make sure everything was okay. "Calm heart I may add."
"Thanks, did you still want me to do those problems that you assigned yesterday?" Lenny asked. Mutou paused, thinking and he then gave his response.
"If you have gotten those problems I assigned done and you showed them to me before class ended, then you don't need to do them. I haven't seen a student ask for more work." Mutou told Lenny if he had gotten those problems done, he didn't need to do them. Lenny nodded.
"Thanks." Lenny told Mutou. Mutou gave a small smile but he had to cut the conversation short.
"I know but I need to get going. Lenny, take it easy and relax and Emi, focus more on your academics." Mutou told both of them before Mutou released Lenny's hand.
"We'll see each other again but it was nice talking with you." Lenny told Mutou. Mutou turned and began walking the other way.
"Take care." Mutou told Lenny and Emi before disappearing. Emi smiled brightly as she had one of her eyes closed.
"I'll take you for the walk around the park I promised you." Emi told Lenny. Emi turned and headed off with Lenny following behind. He didn't want to get left in the dust again.
The park seemed to be what Emi had imagined, the summer vegetation was coming in as the shade of the full trees had created a thick canopy of green leaves. Lenny was once again having his mind drift in the greenery. Emi however was sticking side by side with her friend as she walked along with him.
Katawa Shoujo- Stride
"You seem to be carefree, is there a reason you are what you are?" Emi asked. Lenny felt the question fly over his head before it came back as if the words had entered his ear backwards.
"I just like enjoying the moment, I don't think I've ever been this happy ever since I got out of the hospital." Lenny admitted. Emi gave him a nod.
"Maybe you just seem to really like the fresh air." Emi began. She leaned over with a smile almost as if she was a robot scanning Lenny. "I like being out here as well. Feeling the rush of wind hitting my face." Emi paused as she continued to think about what Lenny had said about him heading outside to enjoy the fresh air. "You kind of remind me of Rin but Rin seemed to be having a good time with herself and she doesn't sound like she was too dead in the water like a fish."
"I didn't know you two were friends." Lenny expressed to Emi about her friendship with Rin. Emi laughed it off as she continued to walk on her little adventure.
"Me and Rin need each other a lot as Rin can't do many tasks without the help of either me or an assistant. It brings us close as I'm the sun to Rin's moon or… rain clouds." Emi tried her best to explain this relationship. Lenny nodded, learning a bit more about Emi as they walked along.
"What did Mutou mean about focusing on your academics? Academics are easy to do… for me at least, do you struggle with your classes or anything?" Lenny asked Emi if there was something she didn't do so well in. Emi began to think about it before she gave her answer.
"I'm not the brightest bulb of the bunch. I get bored sitting there in a chair and waiting for the bell to ring so I can get up and run it off. I'm also practicing for Monday as I don't want to waste any time." Emi explained that her best strength was her physical activity to Lenny's academics. "I think you're starting to get better at running even if you are faster than the slowest person on my team."
"Ah who am I kidding, I'll still come in last place if I decide to challenge you to a race." Lenny expressed to Emi that he was going to get beat in the running race very hard. Emi looked at him.
"Don't worry about that, you'll still be faster than any of us one day." Emi tried to remain positive even with Lenny's honesty. Lenny wasn't going to win in a race with Emi or any of her friends and teammates for that matter. Emi brought Lenny to a trail entrance where she would want to begin the tour around the park.
"Wow I never knew the park had trails that we can run on. I am curious to figure out what this place is called?" Lenny asked, he was as curious as a child figuring out something new that he had never seen before.
"That's the trail for Galveston Hill." Emi began. "This is the longest trail and one of the hardest to run on due to the sheer length of it, you're going up a hill and the trail wears you down more and more as you run it. It's the biggest hill in the park which makes sense for the longest trail. It's got many bridges to run across."
"Has anyone completed the entire trail running along it in one go?" Lenny asked. Emi paused as she began to think about it. She began to think of who tried their best to make it around the trail. For Emi. She had an answer for that.
"Nobody has as the path is pretty hard on us even to the best runners. The farthest I've ever gotten was past the fourth bridge before collapsing from exhaustion and that was part of a dare." Emi explained to Lenny the farthest she had run on the trail. For Lenny, his curiosity was satisfied with that.
"Goodness, must've been a hard run for you." Lenny told Emi as they began walking along together to see the next spot where they were going to continue chatting. They continued to walk along the main trail as they were chatting among themselves about the park. Emi was taking the lead in terms of the conversation.
"This part of the park nobody seems to really visit. Rin and I seem to really be the only people here. The entrance to this park isn't too far away and that would lead you to the streets." Emi explained to Lenny that they had come to an area that nobody seemed to visit. Along the path running across from them was a set of steel rails that were held together with concrete slabs and metal spikes. "People say the trains that run through this part of the park are what discourages them from coming along to run here."
"Must be scary huh?" Lenny asked. Emi nodded before turning her head to spot someone nearby, it was Rin. Rin was sitting under a tree as she was just observing the world go by.
"Believe so, when the lights start flashing and ringing, that's when you know a train is going to go by, I see these long ones, probably just like what I see in my game." Rin explained that the trains that did go by were something she always came to the part for.
"Hey Rin, I didn't know you were out here." Emi happily greeted Rin. Rin looked at Emi as if she didn't want to speak to her that much.
"Well. Hi Emi." Rin greeted Emi as she didn't seem to have much care for anything in the world.
"What brings you out here this weekend?" Lenny asked curiously. Rin looked at Lenny as her eyes seemed to go into space.
"Nothing, just felt like it." Rin sighed. Lenny remained curious to see what Rin was talking about.
"Do you come here… often?" Lenny asked, he tried to figure out what Rin was talking about. Emi looked at her as her eyes lit up with curiosity.
"Yeah Rin, tell me what you're here for." Emi begged Rin to tell them what brought her out here. Then a horn blared as the three of them turned their heads to see what that sounded like. It appeared to be what Rin was talking about. The train roared by as the three of them watched in its beauty. The train was mixed as the locomotive turned into cars and then the cars turned into nothing as the train snaked off into the wilderness.
"That." Rin told them. Lenny and Emi looked as the gates came up as they were looking at the tracks. "Must've been a local based on the length." Rin told them.
"Yeah that was interesting, I couldn't say that I was mesmerized by it." Lenny tried his best to think about it. Rin sighed as Emi decided to speak again.
"Not your cup of tea Lenny?" Emi asked. She placed her fists up with one of her eyes blinking. "I certainly can go for one. What about you Rin?" Emi asked Rin if she was up for something to drink.
"Well I think I've had my fill in watching nature, I bet I can go for something to drink." Rin told Emi and Lenny that she could follow them back to get something to drink. Emi nodded as she was ready to race Lenny back to the school. Lenny however wasn't feeling up to the challenge. Rin on the other hand didn't want to see where this could go.
"Let's not race each other, I don't think Lenny is up for it." Rin explained to Emi that their friend wasn't in good condition.
"Oh. Sorry, let's just walk back." Emi apologized. She decided to take the lead with Lenny and Rin following behind her.
Rin, Emi and Lenny made their way back to the school grounds as they were chatting away.
"So Hisao must've had fun hanging out with you and watching your stuff. I think Lenny fell asleep." Emi was talking to Rin about yesterday's events.
"Yeah. Lenny must've been tired from all of that running you did with him. I think Hisao and Hanako knocked over my paper stack I had stored up for them. She saw my sketches." Rin described the situation she found herself in when she brought all of that company over into her room.
"Four must've been a crowd?" Emi asked Rin if this was true.
"Yeah… four's a crowd." Rin sighed. They made their way into the main building. The cold icebox like air hitting them as they had spent all morning in the humidity. The school building even on a weekend was crowded. Students were using the vacant class rooms for their clubs or to get homework done. For Lenny, being in school without the teachers felt like a different experience to him. So removed was the fact that classes were broken up with students hustling their way between classrooms. Emi however felt like it was another day, like any other day she had experienced. She wanted to see what it was like when there was no one there, all the hallways to herself. Eventually, Lenny made it to the room where the door was and gave it a soft knock.
Katawa Shoujo- Concord
"Hello?" Lilly asked in greeting.
"Are we here to have tea?" Lenny asked. Lilly recognized the voice and opened the door.
"Yes you can come in." Lilly told them. Lenny, Emi and Rin headed into the tea room. Was there something that brought them in. Lenny and the others sat around the table as it was now crowded with just the six of them. Hanako didn't know how to react if she wanted to run away as there was so much company to be found. For Lenny he felt the same way. Lilly looked at them, trying to calm their fears. "Don't worry neither side will harm the other, we're all friends here." Lilly explained that No one was going to hurt anybody. For Lenny this was enough for him and Hanako to breathe a sigh of relief.
"For a second I thought you two were going to be scared of each other." Lenny expressed as she got out extra saucers and tea cups for them. Lenny sat down in front of Hanako much like he did with yesterday's class. The two of them were staring nervously at each other. Not out of hatred but neither felt too shy to speak.
"Who's going to be the first to speak?" Lilly asked. Hisao remained silent but instead just decided to sip his tea.
"I don't know to be sure but looks like I'm going to be it." Hanako blurted out. Realizing her mistake, she covered her mouth as if she was embarrassed.
"Someone managed to have their tongue slip when they tried to speak." Rin explained as Lenny must've won the challenge of silence. Lenny felt like he was nervous and if this was slowly becoming too much for him.
"I… uh…" Lenny nervously stammered, trying to speak to Rin's response. Hanako decided to speak up.
"It's okay Rin, he's nervous, like me." Hanako told Rin that they shouldn't push him too hard if he was scared.
"Should we try talking to him or something?" Hisao asked. Hanako began to think about it for a moment as Lenny finished his tea.
"I… I…" Hanako stammered for a moment, she was nervous too. Lilly placed her hands on the table, in a bit of a deep thought. "What should I say?"
"Anything. Reach deep down in your heart and find what works for you. Once the thought is found, bring it back up and express it." Lilly advised Hanako to think about it. Hanako nodded before she began to think. Was this something that Lilly had instructed? Hanako tried her best to think about it, her thoughts being deep. Finally after what seemed to be an eternity of searching, Hanako decided to reel the feelings back up.
"Well… Lenny… why are you so nervous?" Hanako decided to ask, trying to get to their friend's thoughts. Lenny tried to figure out what Hanko was saying.
"I don't know for sure, I'm just scared." Lenny finally cracked a bit. Hanako got up and decided to sit next to Lenny to figure out what her friend needed.
"About what? We're not going to hurt you." Hanako explained to Lenny that no one was there to hurt him. Hanako then decided to hug Lenny. Lenny felt a blush as Hanako's arms had wrapped around him. Was she really hugging him? "There's nothing to be afraid of. We'll take care of you." Hanako promised to Lenny that he was safe with them.
Katawa Shoujo- Innocence
"Well… thanks for the hug." Lenny told Hanako. Hanako just nodded before she released her arms from him.
"Well no one should be scared. I would have been much the same way if I hadn't met Hisao." Hanako explained that under any circumstances, nobody had to be afraid. "I know you're still new here but we should try everything that we have to make you feel comfortable around us."
"All right. I guess I have to try to throw my shyness off. I guess I'm ready to keep going." Lenny had declared that he wasn't going to keep sitting around and suffer from his weaknesses. Emi's eyes lit up with excitement.
"So I'll be seeing you tomorrow on the track then?" Emi asked Lenny if he should have the courage to keep meeting up on the track field. Lenny seemed to nod.
"Yeah I should. I don't think I'd be here however with so many people being around me that truly cared for me, I thought I was all alone." Lenny explained that for them there was nowhere he was going to go and with Emi and their friends, he was going to have some time to adjust to his new company. Emi gave another smile before she patted him on the back.
"I'll take you back to your dorm then?" Emi asked Lenny as she decided to take him away. Lenny got up and walked with Emi as Rin left shortly after finishing her tea. Lilly, Hanako and Hisao decided to head off alone as they were going to chat something among themselves.
"So we're figuring out about this new student, I say he's a bit like the three of us." Hisao began speaking to Lilly and Hanako.
"How so?" Hanako asked. She was curious to see what Hisao was talking about. Lilly tried her best to think but she was getting no conclusions. "I can't see what makes him so similar, its best you lay them out in words." Lilly told Hisao and Hanako. Hanako remained afraid to speak as Hisao sighed. He was going to be forced to do all the heavy lifting.
"Okay from studying Lenny and what he seemed to look like, he's a bit like the three of us. I thought I heard that the poor kid has a heart condition much like I do. He looks a lot like Lilly and has Hanako's temperament. It all boils down to observation and taking notes around you." Hisao explained to Lilly and Hanako about their friend.
"You seem to have it that way of how you'd describe your friends." Lilly responded. Hanako didn't say anything while Hisao continued to speak.
"I'm going to talk to Mutou more about this the chance I can get a moment with him. If we figure out who Lenny truly is, then we can try figuring out what might be beneath his exterior. Could he be like Hanako or not is what I'm going to figure out." Hisao explained to Lilly and Hanako what his plans were. Hanako leaned her hands up and spoke.
"I wouldn't push him too far. What if he has a panic attack and that triggers his heart condition?" Hanako expressed her concern before asking.
"Hanako, don't get so scared for someone else, I'm sure we can put it under control." Lilly calmed Hanako down. They continued to approach the dorm that Hisao was going to be in. For Lilly she needed to say a couple of things to Hisao. "Well Hisao before I go, promise me you wouldn't push our friend too hard?" Lilly asked if he was going to take his time to get to know Lenny like he did with Hanako. Hisao knew this was going to be a no brainer and nodded.
"I promise on that." Hisao told Lilly. Lilly nodded as Hanako stood near them.
"Okay. Hanako will be there if you have any questions or if you're having trouble, just ask Hanako if, not then ask Mutou or me and we'll decide." Lilly told Hisao if he had any trouble he could just ask someone for their input and see how he could approach the situation.
"Okay I will." Hisao told Lilly and Hanako before leaving. Hisao made his way upstairs as he needed to talk with someone. On his way to his dorm. He was stopped by someone waiting for him.
"Well look who it is." A familiar voice asked. Hisao turned around to see who it was.
Katawa Shoujo- Out of the Loop
"Hey Kenji, is there a reason you flagged me down?" Hisao asked Kenji why he wanted to speak to him.
"I saw Lenny hanging out with one of the limbless wonders when they were heading out this morning. I think he's turning into a feminist himself." Kenji began explaining to Hisao.
"Emi?" Hisao began. "She's good company, I don't think she's willing to do anything harmful. I was talking to Lilly and Hanako on how we should proceed with this whole thing regarding Lenny but I just hope we can all put him in good hands." Kenji leaned closer and stared at Hisao to see if Hisao would be part of the group.
"Don't let your mind slip, they could be anywhere and ready to strike. I am warning you about what I said, just try your best to keep your cards in your hands and keep your eyes open, you'll figure out what I am saying." Kenji reminded Hisao to have his mind open. Hisao began to think about Lenny and also what Kenji had said.
"I will but why? It's not like Lenny is going to attack us or anything, we're just curious to see what he is like. "Is there a reason? Lenny looks pretty harmless and he's not going to do anything." Hisao tried his best to explain to Kenji that his friend wasn't going to do much.
"Just be mindful. I'm not saying you should suspect him of anything but… just be mindful how things are. I have to get going as I'm working on something big, I wish I could sit and chat with you. Take care Hisao." Kenji told Hisao before he left. Hisao decided to leave for his dorm. Hisao got up and left for his dorm.
Hisao got to his dorm before heading into his room. He went over to take his daily dose of pills for his own health. He began to wonder, was Lenny on medication like this for his condition. Hisao had to ask him if he had the chance but today wore him out as he had homework to do that morning. After taking the medication, Hisao slumped down on the bed. He began to think about something. What were Emi and Lenny thinking about in the dream.
Emi slipped the socks onto her legs before putting on her metal legs. She was poised to win as she got herself ready to run. When the moment was right, Emi took off like a bullet. Running gracefully down the track as the metal feet pounded the track. Lenny was trying his best to keep balance with his running as Emi sped past him. Lenny tried to pick up speed as if he was trying to catch Emi but it was all in vain as Lenny was on his hands and knees gasping for breath. All wasn't lost as a hand reached down to help him up. It was Emi who had raced all the way back to him. Pulling him over her. Emi smiled with a nod as she began to escort Lenny back as a way of helping. In a way of saying thank you. Lenny helped Emi pull an apple from the tree as Emi seemed to have an excellent time handling her friend. The two of them were laughing over what seemed to be a blossoming friendship.
End of Act 1
[A/N]: Finally Act 1 is completed but I'm still thinking what the other two acts should be named. Should they be one word or a few words? I don't want to overcomplicate things when it should be simple. I will begin working on Act 2 whenever I can. Later.
