Inside the bunker, Amity and her friends took a moment to catch their breath. The Collector flew in on his magical star, appearing relieved to be away from Twisted Amity.
"Glad that's over with, now what?" he remarked, shaking his head.
The rest of the Hexsquad was still reeling by Twisted Amity herself, and how ruthless she was, how dangerous she is. She killed the Coven Guards without breaking a sweat.
Gus, still trembling with fear, voiced what everyone was thinking. "I can't believe she's so... twisted," he said.
Luz shared his horror. "It's like she's a completely different person," she added, her voice trembling.
Willow, more shaken than she ever was before she met Luz, chimed in. "I can't understand how someone could turn out like that," she admitted.
Hunter, whose used to seeing this from Belos, was completely shaking after seeing Amity like this, spoke softly. "It's terrifying to think about."
Amity, who had a pained expression on her face, couldn't wrap her head around the alternate version of herself. "How could I become something so horrid?!" she questioned, her voice filled with confusion and repulsion.
Alternate Timeline Boscha, who had been relatively silent since their escape, decided to offer some insight. "That's not your Amity. She's from my timeline," she explained.
Boscha was confused by what she meant so she gave everyone a look.
Everyone turned their attention to her, clearly intrigued by her explanation. "So, she's not our Amity, and this was a different path she took," The Collector stated, seeking clarification.
Pretending to understand, Boscha nods as she says, "Well, that makes more sense."
Alternate Timeline Boscha nodded. "Exactly. As I stated, something horrific happened in my timeline that led Amity down a darker path, and she became what we saw back there."
The group absorbed this information, realizing that the Twisted Amity they had encountered was not the Amity they knew. They needed to understand more about the alternate timeline and the events that shaped it.
"How did this all start?" Hunter asks, curiosity piquing despite his repulsion and his fear holding him back.
Alternate Timeline Boscha hesitated before she answered, her tone somber. "Yes, something did happen. In my timeline, Luz was..." She trailed off for a moment, her gaze distant, not yet revealing the full extent of the horror. "Luz was murdered," she finally revealed, causing everyone to gasp in shock.
Luz had her hand to her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes. "Murdered? But... who did it?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Alternate Timeline Boscha slowly shook her head. "Some things are better left unsaid... But this event... it changed everything."
Amity and her friends exchanged horrified glances, unable to process the magnitude of the revelation. Alternate Timeline Boscha continued her grim tale.
"Because of Luz's death, the Amity in my timeline became... something else," she said, her voice filled with dread. "She became a murderous, sadistic witch. The Twisted Amity we saw out there... she's a monster who killed everyone in the Boiling Isles. Hexside, the entire population... all of it, including Gus, Willow, Hunter, and everyone."
Willow, Gus, and Hunter looked utterly devastated by this information. They were forced to confront the unimaginable loss of their own lives in a different timeline.
"It...It can't be..." Amity said, gulping. "I couldn't have done this. I just COULDN'T!"
Tears welled in Gus's eyes as he muttered, "We're all gone... because of her."
Hunter clenched his fists, struggling to hold back his anger and grief. "How could someone do something so... evil?" he wondered aloud.
Amity wrapped an arm around Luz, who was still visibly shaken, whispering words of comfort to her.
Alternate Timeline Boscha, who had harbored these memories and experiences, concluded her story. "All except me, Eda, and Hooty... and I don't know why we were spared."
Amity couldn't bear the weight of the truth. The very person who was supposed to love, guide, and protect her had committed such a heinous act. Her voice trembled as she demanded, "Who did it? Who murdered Luz?"
Alternate Timeline Boscha shared a hesitant glance with Boscha before finally speaking the damning words. "It was your mother, Odalia. She used the Abomatron to kill Luz, and you... you arrived too late to save her."
The room fell into a heavy silence. Amity was horrified as she recalled that moment in her own past when she had to confront her mother. She remembered threatening to destroy the Abomatron in front of the investors, demanding that her friends be allowed back into Hexside after Odalia unfairly got them expelled.
Amity couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for her alternate timeline counterpart, who had suffered such a devastating loss. The knowledge that her mother was capable of such cruelty weighed heavily on her, yet it didn't surprise her that Odalia was capable of doing such horrid things.
Luz, who had been through so much already, held Amity's hand tightly. She knew how painful this revelation was for her girlfriend, and she was there to support her through it. The entire group sat in solemn understanding of the horrors that had transpired in the alternate timeline and the challenges they now faced in preventing a similar fate in their own reality.
The revelation that Amity in the alternate timeline had committed such heinous acts was like a dagger to the heart. Alternate Timeline Boscha, seemingly recalling more painful memories, began to recount the gruesome details, her voice heavy with anger.
"Even before the tragedy with Luz, the Amity in my timeline had already... done terrible things. She killed Lilith, your Aunt Lilith, out of revenge for kidnapping Luz," she explained, her eyes filled with pain and anger. "And she... she threatened to kill me during a Witches' Duel."
Amity's eyes widened, and her voice quivered as she vehemently refused to believe these shocking revelations. "No, this can't be true. There's no way I could ever do something like that. I would never hurt Miss Lilith or threaten to kill anyone," she protested, her distress evident.
Boscha and Luz each placed a comforting hand on Amity's shoulder, silently offering support during this difficult moment. While Boscha glaring at a confused Luz ruined the moment for a brief moment, the room was still fraught with tension as everyone grappled with the chilling truths about the alternate timeline and the darkness that had consumed that version of Amity.
"After Grom, she... she just changed. Became colder, more distant, and bitter," Alternate Timeline Boscha explained, her voice carrying the weight of her experiences. "She'd make these hurtful, insensitive comments to her classmates, to Willow and Gus, to everyone. Sometimes... sometimes she even took her emotions out on them."
Amity's heart sank as she considered the implications of this revelation. It was painful to imagine a version of herself capable of such cruelty and bitterness, especially toward the people she cared about. She looked to her friends, her eyes filled with concern and fear for what they might learn next. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of event or magic could cause such a transformation in someone she thought she knew so well.
Boscha's question about the physical changes was a valid one. "So, is that something that naturally happened to her before or after Grom? Or was there an event that triggered it?" Boscha inquired.
Alternate Timeline Boscha looked troubled, her brows furrowing as she thought back to those dark days. "It was gradual at first, but even before Grom and after she blew off Skara's Birthday Party, just a subtle shift in her skin tone and eye color. But as she... changed, it became more pronounced. I can't say for sure what triggered it, but I'm certain that something inside her had something to do with it."
Hunter nodded in understanding. "This is getting more mysterious by the minute. It's clear that something else pushed your Amity down a very different path."
Amity's unease continued to grow, the sense of foreboding deepening as they uncovered more about this alternate timeline. The questions remained, hanging heavy in the air, about what had caused her counterpart to become the twisted figure they had encountered.\
Amity's thoughts spiraled, her mind becoming a chaotic whirlwind of "what ifs" and dark possibilities. The revelation of her alternate self's twisted nature and the idea that this version of her could exist had shaken her to the core. What if she had never met Luz? What if she had continued down the path of cruelty and bitterness? What if she had to confront Belos by herself?
...
What if she was nothing without Luz?
...
The vision of her life without Luz was a grim one, painted with sorrow and despair. The thought of facing the dangerous forces of the Boiling Isles, including Belos, on her own sent a shiver down her spine. She felt sick to her stomach at the idea that her family and friends could have been destroyed by the draining spell or other dark magic, leaving her completely isolated.
The weight of these thoughts pressed heavily on her chest, and for the first time in a long time, Amity questioned her own worth. She wondered if Luz had truly been the guiding light that had saved her from a darker fate, or if she had simply delayed the inevitable. The feeling of self-doubt, insecurity, and guilt began to consume her, and she struggled to keep her emotions in check.
Amity's internal turmoil had taken hold, and the fear of her own potential darkness threatened to overshadow the courage and determination that had driven her to change for the better. The path ahead looked uncertain and frightening, and she needed to find her way out of the darkness that was creeping into her heart.
"Sweet Potato?" Luz asks, confused.
"I'm..." Amity said, regaining focus. "I'm fine...!"
Amity's forced smile couldn't hide the turmoil she was feeling, and she desperately wished she could go back to her previous state of ignorance and bliss. But she knew it wasn't possible, not after everything she had heard from Alternate Timeline Boscha. As Luz tried to engage her in conversation, she struggled to hold herself together.
Then, the door to the bunker burst open, and Alador, Camila, and the Hooded Figure rushed inside. Their presence brought a mixture of relief and trepidation. Camila's well-being was a welcome sight for Luz, but Amity was reluctant to reveal the inner turmoil she had been grappling with.
"I've heard some gruesome stuff about my future self." Amity gulped, not liking what she just heard.
Alador looked at his daughter with a mixture of concern and dread. He had heard about the events surrounding the Alternate Timeline Boscha, and he couldn't fathom how someone like Twisted Amity could exist. "Amity, tell me everything you heard," he implored, his voice shaky.
Amity hesitated for a moment but then began recounting the chilling details she had learned from Alternate Timeline Boscha about the other version of herself, the descent into darkness, and the heinous acts that version had committed.
"Turns out my future self is from a timeline where Odalia DID kill Luz." Amity gulped. "I went on to destroy the Boiling Isles and murder most of its population in cold blood. Especially my friends, and my own family. Even before then, I've done horrid things...Horrid things..."
As Amity spoke, Alador's horror deepened. The transformation of a young witch, whom he had known as his daughter, into a sadistic and malevolent being was beyond anything he had ever imagined. The sheer darkness of it all weighed heavily on his heart, and he couldn't fathom the emotional pain that Amity must be going through.
"Oh, my Titan." Alador gulped.
The Hooded Figure listened attentively. He shared Amity's concern but knew they needed to focus on their immediate safety and addressing the threat of Twisted Amity.
Camila hugged Amity tightly, trying to provide some comfort. "We'll figure this out together, sweetheart. You're not alone in this," she reassured her daughter, her eyes filled with maternal love and concern.
The atmosphere in the bunker remained tense as Amity looked at the Hooded Figure, her expression a mixture of confusion and concern. Alador, on the other hand, was growing more agitated with every passing moment.
"Why didn't you tell us about Twisted Amity from the beginning?" he demanded, his voice sharp with anger.
The Hooded Figure took a deep breath, his demeanor calm despite the mounting tension in the room. "I didn't reveal it immediately because I believed it was necessary to address the immediate threat and get everyone to safety. We didn't have time to delve into the details of an alternate timeline," he explained.
Amity listened to his explanation but was still puzzled. "But how did you even know about Twisted Amity in the first place?" she asked, her brow furrowed.
The Hooded Figure's eyes glistened with an otherworldly knowledge. "I was shown the events of her timeline by Clockwork, the Master of Time," he replied. "During Luz's time in the Boiling Isles, Clockwork showed me the twisted path that Twisted Amity had taken, the darkness that consumed her."
The concept of a Master of Time showing visions of alternate timelines left Amity and her family in awe. They had encountered many magical beings and creatures, but the notion of a Master of Time was something beyond their understanding.
Camila looked at the Hooded Figure, her voice full of curiosity. "Who is this Clockwork, and why did they show you these visions?"
The Hooded Figure sighed, realizing that it was time to reveal some of the mysteries surrounding his abilities and knowledge. "Clockwork is a powerful ghost who oversees the flow of time. They have the ability to manipulate time and grant glimpses of alternate timelines when they deem it necessary. Clockwork showed me Twisted Amity's timeline to help us understand the threat we're facing."
As the group absorbed this new information, they realized that they were dealing with forces beyond their understanding.
Amity couldn't shake the overwhelming feeling of self-doubt that had settled within her. The revelation of Twisted Amity and the horrors of the alternate timeline had left her deeply shaken. As she looked around the bunker, she saw the worry etched on the faces of her friends and family. It was clear they were counting on her, not just as a member of the team but as someone who understood the potential dangers of her alternate self.
Luz, her unwavering source of strength and hope, looked at her with a reassuring smile, a silent reminder that they faced this challenge together. Amity knew she couldn't let her doubts cripple her. For Luz's sake, and for the sake of everyone who depended on her, she had to find the courage to confront the darkness that had consumed her alternate self.
Despite the turmoil within, Amity straightened her posture, determined to put on a brave face. She knew she had to be the Amity Luz loved, the one who faced challenges head-on with unwavering determination. The feeling of worthlessness still lingered, but she couldn't let it dictate her actions.
With a deep breath, she stepped forward, ready to tackle the difficult path that lay ahead. Amity had faced adversity before, and she wouldn't let self-doubt stand in her way. She had to be the best version of herself, not just for her friends but for herself as well. As long as she had Luz by her side, there was nothing they couldn't overcome, no matter how dire the circumstances.
