Summary:

What is it when the girl you like sacrifices herself, comes back in the body of the boy who likes you, and they both see you at the same time?

The cycle of collapse and rebirth continues. From the Big Bang, 13.8 billion years ago…the elements which make up our bodies have reassembled again and again. They become stars…burn out, contract…and shoot out into the universe. Gathering in a vortex, they mix together…and later, scatter apart. Someday, when this world comes to an end and the Earth ceases to exist…perhaps we too, will once again become part of a massive vortex.

As the human body Hibiki created for Uta by pure accident dispersed and took to the air to rejoin her quelled sisters, Uta opened her mind to Makoto-san's sentiments, as though listening to the waves in the seashell Hibiki gave her at the garden.

"Let's meet again someday."

It was an accident she and Hibiki met.

The Little Mermaid's sisters also destroyed Tokyo because Hibiki accidentally angered them by making contact.

Uta followed Hibiki, her time as a human past, and yet…still learning.

Humans feel loneliness, happiness, pain, and love.

She'd studied her teammates (especially Hibiki) closely.

After the second Bubble-fall Phenomenon, she paid close attention to the headphones Usagi hid at the bottom of the box of snacks in his room.

Uta followed Usagi inside. The youngest of the Blue Blazes had been feeding the chickens on the Reiyo's deck, when he accidentally angered them and incurred their violence.

Usagi sucked on the cut on his finger. Unhygienic, but like he said before, he didn't have parents who'd show their faces and talk him out of doing stupid stuff, so…

The bar of soap started dry, fused to the sink. Liquid hand soap was a minor indulgence they could win during Battlekour. Even then, it was smarter to save unless they were celebrating. Except if the prize was beer. Makoto-san would seize beer first priority. She had to, living aboard a JSDF cruiser with that many loud boys.

Ahem. Research subjects.

As Usagi rubbed his wet hands together with the unstuck bar of soap, bubbles rose from the resulting foam. A bubble unlike the others flew in behind him through the doorless door, floating in front of the mirror with a cracked corner.

It blended in. Blended in, that is, until it began to sing. Alien sounds, sung in notes of four. Repeating eights.

"Uta?" Usagi asked the bubble.

Hibiki asked Usagi the same minutes later, the blond, pigtailed yahoo hopping and tumbling around off the pressurized heels of his boots to disturb him by the railing.

The angel choir hum was un-Usagi-like. Hibiki was usually very sensitive to noise, but the song he and Uta knew, he knew anywhere.

Seeing an opening, Usagi slapped the replacement headphones he bartered for over Hibiki's ears.

"Usagi?"

"It's me, Hibiki!" Usagi trolled. "But Uta…She's here. I'm…lending her my body from now on!"

"Lending?"

"Y'like those? I traded the leader of the Undertakers!"

Hibiki always pretended he couldn't hear Usagi's pickup lines. They were as lame as Kai's moves on Makoto-san.

Only now…Now, Hibiki had no option not to listen.

In her innocence, Uta went down this avenue because from her perspective, what Usagi did was what she did for Hibiki, and what Hibiki did for her. Replacing the headphones Hibiki dropped was self-sacrifice.

Humans feel loneliness, happiness, pain, and love.

They are all capable of these.

They are meant to share these, all of them.

Uta sang using Usagi's mouth, wishing Hibiki hear Usagi too.

She was still learning. Growth, a natural spiral.
