Chapter: What did we just agree to?

(Time jump a few weeks ahead)
Life as a Genin came to a routine: Wake up, exercise, go for a jog, come home for shower and breakfast then head out to meet their sensei for their daily dose of D-missions.
For some Genin came a different routine, that depends on the day: Wake up, exercise, get dressed and have the pack ready to leave. OR sleep in till breakfast time and make breakfast. OR wake up, exercise, go for a jog, come home for shower and breakfast then head out to their sensei to give their report for the previous mission.
See? Depends on the day.
In the weeks that followed after Roxanne's dawn departure have been busy or not. The boys kept up their D-missions without complaint and train with or with out Roxanne after the missions ended.
The day after Roxanne came back, She announced that the postponed battle royal can start again, much to the gleefulness of the clones. So after the boy's mission for the day ended, they made their way to the same training grounds and Roxanne ambushed them with her clones.
Of course she got scolded and yelled at while the boys dodged and duck but that didn't stop the boys from smiling as they fought back.
Kakashi made an appearance behind a tree, watching and studying the battle, and promptly left without a word.
The boys made it to 5 clones each before Roxanne called it quits again and postponed again. The boys were happy with the results since with the time from start to finish they managed to get rid of 5 clones each. That battle resumed a week later and they finished off the last 5 and Roxanne treated them to ramen before taking off for another mission.
After the last mission, the Hokage decided to keep Milo and Roxanne on a weekly basis mission that would go for a day to 3 days and the rest of the week off unless an important (top secret non-legal one) dropped out of the sky and they had to leave at the moment's notice.
Now, that happened once while Roxanne was with the boys during their morning exercise. One minute she was there laughing at a joke Naruto said and the next minute, she was gone and in her place a piece of paper stating that she had to go suddenly. When she got back the next day, she apologized to a pouting Naruto by giving him a voucher she made for ten bowls of free ramen (Not free but her treat) which he cashed in right away. As for Sasuke, he was just upset for Naruto being upset but after being hugged and nuzzled by the neck by Roxanne for a long period of time, he forgave her while turning red and Naruto giggling in the back ground.
The rest of the time they trained together, ate together, hung out together and slept together. When they did happen to train together, Roxanne taught them about nature chakra manipulation or whatever it's known for but she gave them the basics on how to flow their chakra into their weapons to sharpen them and to cut anything. By anything she meant trees, rocks, water, metal fence around the forest of death (Sasuke refuse at first but even he can't resist Naruto's puppy eyes) and anything that's made out of concrete. On those days, the boys would be exhausted and would only have the strength to walk home and take a shower before falling into bed.
Of course Sasuke always stayed at Roxanne's apartment whenever she's out on a mission and she started to noticed little knick knacks here and there whenever she gets back. Small things like an alarm clock on the night stand that she doesn't need, or towels that she didn't buy (she doesn't use that either since it was Sasuke's), or a cup she's never seen before, or extra pair of slippers in the closet and of course the one that takes the cake is: Half of her closet filled with his clothes.
The first time she'd seen this was when she got back from her last mission and came home before the boys. Come to think of it, she wasn't all that surprised when she saw her closet and to confirm a suspicious voice in her head, she went upstairs to Naruto's apartment and saw that his closet was also half filled with Sasuke's clothes along with an extra pair of slippers. In the bathroom was also his towels and soaps and his toothbrush next to the blonde's. She snorted at the sight, shook her head and went back downstairs to take a shower.
OOOOO
(Present Day) Hokage's office, 0930am
"on that day, we babysat for a lady that was going into labor and her husband was out of the village at the time. Sakura watched the toddler while Naruto and Sasuke cleaned the house and got the" Kakashi's voiced droned on in a monotone voice as he gave a report of the month's mission his team had done.
Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura sat on the floor behind their sensei after listening for the first 10 minutes, not wanting to stand if this was going to take a while. Their sensei's voice slowing lulling them to tiredness and at so early in the morning: Sakura yawned as she sat with her legs underneath her, Naruto sat crossed legged with his head on his hand on his knees trying to pay attention. Sasuke was behind Naruto, leaning up against him as a makeshift pillow, quietly snoozing away from prying eyes.
Kakashi flipped a page and continued reading out to the room. Up front is the Hokage, with a small smile as he discreetly looked to the children on the floor, and Iruka to his right, taking notes.
Naruto then turn slightly to his left to catch Sasuke from slipping off his back and Naruto completely turned around to lay Sasuke's head on his lap, not waking the teen. Naruto then put his head in his hand on his knees and closed his eyes. Sakura, being the only one to noticed since their sensei kept on talking, saw Naruto's back turned and crawled over behind Naruto and leaned up against him as her makeshift pillow, falling asleep instantly.
The Hokage suppressed a smile and stifled a laugh at the scene. Neither Kakashi or Iruka noticed as they were too busy doing what they are doing.
After a while Kakashi finally finished his report and looked up from the paperwork, waiting on further instructions and failing to noticed his team asleep on the floor. Minutes ticked by as the Hokage stared and Iruka finally finished taking notes and looked up to speak when the words got choked from the scene in front of him. Turning to the Hokage, Iruka put his hands together and bowed his head:
"A thousand apologies Hokage-sama, I've taught my students better than this!"
"Better then what?" Kakashi asked as he put a hand on his hip.
"Then this!" Iruka pointed behind Kakashi. Kakashi looked back but saw nothing until he looked down to his sleeping team.
"Aww, they're soo cute!"
"Cute!? They're NOT cute! They're being disrespectful to the Hokage!" Iruka ranted and not noticing that the Hokage's hat was slightly down, covering his face and his shoulders were shaking.
"They're still cute though"
"Ugh! Wake up" Iruka yelled to the kids and to his horror, they all waved him off dismissively as Kakashi cooed to his team on how cute they are. Face turning red from embarrassment and steam coming out of his ear from rage, Iruka threw a pen at the kids but got thrown sideways and way off from where the kids are, that's how mad he is.
Sensing a volcanic eruption about to happen, Kakashi intervene: "Um, Kids? Wake up before Iruka loses his head over your blatant disregard of respect to our ruler of the village"
All three stirred: Sakura lifted her head off Naruto's back, Naruto lifted his head off his hand and Sasuke lift his head off Naruto's lap. They all turned to see a red faced Iruka, a shoulder shaking Hokage and a kawi faced sensei all looking at them. The kids all yawned, stretched and rubbed their bleary eyes before turning to face the three adults while still sitting on the floor.
"Took you long enough" Naruto commented and yawned one last time.
"OH! I'm sorry, were we boring you!?" Iruka snapped.
Naruto looked to Sasuke, who yawned, then to Sakura, who rubbed her eyes, and then answered.
"Yeah, little bit"
That broke the bank as the Hokage snorted and then laughed out loud with Kakashi giggling, his head turned to the side. Iruka however looked scandalous.
"Hokage-sama, please!"
"Iruka, relax. Nothing wrong with a little fun and it did looked like we were boring the kids to death. Am I right, Naruto" the blonde nodded.
"And what will remedy that boredom?"
"Something challenging and exciting will do. You know a higher mission then D"
"You're just a brand new Genin with not much experience. Like all new Genins: you start with simple missions to develop your skill and experience" Iruka explained.
All three Genins looked at Iruka, then the Hokage and finally to their sensei. "Now you know why we don't complain about a higher mission if some people don't think we're experience enough" Naruto said as he leaned back on his hands and crossed his legs at the ankle. Sakura quietly gasped behind her hand and Sasuke snorted behind his. Kakashi smiled to his team and looked to the Hokage as he looked back to the kids with a certain gleam in his eyes. Pursing his lips, finger to his chin and looking sideways, the Hokage pretended to think about it. Iruka looked flabbergasted at the development.
"Hokage-sama, please!" He whispered
"So be it. Since you have not complained throughout all your D missions and have actually voiced your thoughts now, so be it. I'm going to give you a C ranked mission: bodyguard duty. Bring in our visitor" The Hokage called out and the door opened to reveal an older man with glasses, straw hat and carrying a bag. As the Genins stood, Naruto wrinkled his nose as the stench of alcohol hit him and by the quiet huff, he knew Kakashi smelt it too.
"What the he- a bunch of snot nosed kids" the man said as he took a sip from a bottle in his other hand.
"A booze hound?" Sakura whispered to the boys and they gave a quiet grunt in response.
"Hey! Don't you kids know how to talk?" All the Genin gave him a face so Kakashi spoke up.
"Who are you and how may we be of service?" The client took another sip from his bottle, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand,
"I am Tazuna, a master bridge builder and I must return to my country. I'm building a bridge there that will change our world for the better and I expect you to get me there safely, even if it means giving up your life"
Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura looked to the client, then each other and quirked an eyebrow to their sensei who sighed and turned to the Hokage.
"Sorry but correct me if I'm mistaken but if we have to give up our lives for him then this classifies as a B rank or A, not a C" All the Genins nodded their heads.
"Then find me someone else then!" the client yelled from the doorway.
"He didn't actually mean giving up your lives" The Hokage started to say but got interrupted.
"Then why did he say it if he didn't mean it?" Iruka said
"It was a figure of speech"
"Giving up our lives for him is a figure of speech then I'm made from ramen with little fairies as my guardians that sprinkle bullshit on everyone" Naruto said as Sasuke snorted and hid his face behind the blonde's back. Sakura covered her face, either from embarrassment or laughter, and Kakashi patted Naruto on the head.
"Language!" Iruka yelled
"Alright, settle down. Tazuna, please explain that what you said is not entirely true. They will not have to give up their lives to escort you to your country now, right?" The Hokage said politely but the gleam in his eyes said otherwise. The Genins noticed that gleam and looked to their sensei whose eye narrowed in suspicion.
"Of course, my apologies. I only meant that I'd be very grateful if you were to take me home safely, please" the word please came out very sarcastically that had the Genins huff quietly and made their sensei's eye twitch.
"There now, we're all friends. Kakashi" said man turned to their ruler "Have your team ready within the hour and depart from the eastern gates. Tazuna here will meet you there and none of you be late" Said in finality.
"Yes, Hokage-sama" the team said and left the office, each giving their client a look before leaving.
Once outside the building, Kakashi turned to his team and waved his hand to them.
"This doesn't feel like it's going to be a C ranked mission" Naruto
"I agree. Something is fishy" Sakura
"Agreed. Pack extra weapons and gear. It might be dangerous so we have to prepare for anything" They all nodded and were about to leave when Kakashi spoke again. "Boys, stay. Sakura, go on ahead and see you at the gate" Said girl nodded and ran off. The boys turned to their sensei as he knelt down on one knee in front of them.
"Guys. I want you to ask Roxanne about the area we are going, it's called the land of Waves, it's where Tazuna is from. It's been awhile since I've been there and not much might have changed but ask her anyways, ok?" the boys nodded
"Kakashi sensei, how do you know to ask her?"
"From what I've seen of her fighting style, I can tell she's been a lot of places so the land of Waves is a safe bet that she's been there" The boys nodded again and left to go get ready.
OOOOO
The boys went to Naruto's to pack the necessities: clothes, weapons, canteen, spare shoes, sleeping pack and food. While they were doing that, they could hear movement from down stairs and knew that Roxanne was home.
"Wasn't she supposed to leave this morning?" Naruto asked puzzled as Sasuke shrugged. Finishing up, they made their way downstairs after locking up and open Roxanne's door without knocking, revealing the girl at the table, packing her own pack. She looked up and smiled.
"Hey guys!"
Sasuke closed the door and stood next to Naruto. "We thought you already left"
Roxanne snorted "Not yet, just about. Milo had to get the all clear before we went. You know Milo, he'd lose his head if it wasn't attached"
During the previous weeks, Roxanne talked about her Jonin's quirks that amused the boys greatly. Their favorite one was from last week mission when he fell off a tree after Roxanne spooked him during his watch and it was her turn. For a Jonin, he spooked easily. What they didn't realize is that Milo was always hyper aware and hard to sneak up on but Roxanne, having learned at an early age to sneak up on a hunt, always seemed to get the drop on her Jonin.
"Anyways, what are you guys doing back so early? Day off?" Roxanne asked as she took out some trail mix from the cupboards to her pack.
"Actually we are packed to go on a C ranked mission" Roxanne stopped her movement
"We leave soon" She looked up and smiled
"Guys! That's great!" She jumped on the boys for a hug and when she pulled back, she noticed they had a funny look.
"Guys? What's wrong?"
"I don't know but it doesn't feel like a C ranked mission after we met the client" Naruto said as he went to sit at the table after dropping his bag by the door. Sasuke followed suit and Roxanne took the last chair.
"Is that your gut or your head?" Both boys looked at each other then back at her.
"Gut" they both said together.
Roxanne nodded "Alright" and stood.
She went to her room and open a secret compartment, taking out a bundle wrapped in a black cloth she had purchased in her travels. Coming back to the table, she shoved her pack away and put the wrapped item on the table.
"Do you remember the day I thought you about molding your chakra to your weapons?"
Both boys nodded
"And do you remember how to sharpen them with chakra so it'll cut through anything? Even metal?"
Both boys nodded
"And how to use combinations for close and long distance?"
Both boys nodded.
"Good cause this is for you" Roxanne unwrapped the cloth and revealed 2 blades. One blade was curved about half a foot, and the other straight double edged. She gave the curved one to Naruto and the other to Sasuke.
"Keep it hidden on your person for easy access. Where are you going?"
"Land of Waves" answered Sasuke as he picked up the blade to inspect it.
"Do you know it? Anything we should know?" Naruto asks
Roxanne leaned back on her chair and gave a snort. "Last time I was there was probably a few months ago and let me tell you, it's bullshit" The boys looked to her in question. "There's this guy who owns a 'company' but really it's an excuse to smuggle things and drugs. This guys is as big of a jerk as they come and his gangs is filled with thugs and murderers. I've never actually crossed path with the big boss but I've crossed a few throats of these thugs that thought a little girl was fair game, if you catch my drift"
The boys eyes widen and Sasuke's hands clenched as he growled out "You mean to say they tried to take advantage of you?" Roxanne nodded and smirked.
"Don't worry. They found their bodies but with the amount of damage done, they never found out who did it"
Sasuke released out the breath he was holding and unclenched his hands but Naruto gave a worried look to Roxanne.
"Is it a regular thing to happen in your travels then and now?" Roxanne leaned over and put a hand on the blonde's shoulder.
"What thugs don't know when they see a girl travelling alone is that she can slice their throats in a blink of an eye and discard their bodies like the trash they are" she squeezed "And I've helped many damsels in distress" She went to remove her hand but Naruto caught it and held it.
"How many have you actually killed?"
"In my life time?" Sasuke quietly gasped at that and reached over to take her other hand as the blonde nodded. Roxanne smiled as she squeezed both hands.
"A number that doesn't need to be said out loud. But I will say this: The first is always the worst and it'll stay in your mind forever so don't take it lightly cause taking a life is no picnic"
The boys sat quietly, letting her words settle in their minds and she let them, until a thought popped up.
"Land of Waves?"
"Yeah?"
"As in the Mist country"
"Yeah?"
A laugh started bubbling from Roxanne's chest and let go of the boys hands to clutch her stomach, her head thrown back as she laughed harder. The boys looked worried.
"This is so Awesome!" She continued to laugh
"What?!" Naruto yelled over the laughing.
"You guys will get a chance to meet my kin!" she said as she calmed herself down and wiped the mirth from her eyes.
"Kin? I thought you didn't have family left?" Sasuke asked
"More like he adopted me after I beat him and said I could call him kin"
"Who?"
"Hold up" She said as she got up and went to her room to rummage through her night stand.
"Aha! This will do!" Roxanne comes back to the main room and sat down with a square photo faced down on the table.
"What's that?" Roxanne didn't answer as she wrote on the back of the photo. Once done, she blew the ink dry and showed the photo to the boys.
"Wow" Naruto said in awe and Sasuke didn't say a word but the blush on his cheeks said everything as they both looked at the photo in Roxanne's hand.
Roxanne giving a fangy smile with a peace sign while Naruto kissed the camera with a wink and Sasuke looked straight at the camera with a confused look. This was taken awhile back and developed a week later when Roxanne had time off and kept in a special box in her night stand.
"How many more pictures do you have?" Sasuke asked as Naruto took the photo to have a closer look.
"A lot" Roxanne said with a smirk as Naruto read the note in the back of the picture
"Zabuza, Make sure nothing happen to them or else, Love Roxanne' Whose Zabuza?" Naruto asked as he hands the photo to Sasuke.
"Zabuza Momochi. My kin and he likes to call himself my brother. He lives in or around Mist so if you happen to go by him: call him out, tell him you know me and give him this photo. He'll make sure nothing will happen to you during your journey to Wave" Roxanne explained as she grabbed her bag again to see what else she needs.
"Are you sure?" Sasuke asks as he hands the photo to Naruto whom put it safely in his jacket pocket while Roxanne nods.
"You'll see, he's just a giant puppy. So you guys got everything you need?" They both nodded.
"Where are you going?" Naruto asks
"Rock country, maybe I'll teach Milo a thing or two since I know all the hidden caves and traps" She laughed gleefully at the thought while the boys shook their head at her antics.
"Just don't kill him or there be no one else to team you up with and you'll spend your days stuck in the village" Naruto said as he and Sasuke took their packs and put on their backs, Roxanne did the same after over checking everything.
"You think I don't know that" She chuckled. When she quiet down, she looked at Naruto then at Sasuke and suddenly felt an ache in her body. The boys noticed the change and stepped close to her.
"I should be happy" She swallowed the lump in her throat "I am happy. You're finally going out in the world" She gave a sad smile "But it'll take weeks for you to travel to the Wave and then probably end up guarding the client for a while more and then another more weeks to travel back and I've never came home without you guys here and" The tears streamed down her face as she rambled. Suddenly she was enveloped in a hug by both boys, being nuzzled by the neck and squeezed.
"We're going to miss you too"
"Miss waking up next to your warmth, your scent"
"Miss having breakfast together"
"Just miss you entirely"
The words made her tears come faster and she wrapped her arms around both boys and squeezed. They stayed like that for a while until she gave one last sniff and pulled back but not let go. Instead she brought her hand up to both Naruto and Sasuke's face and held their cheek as she looked into their eyes. She then leaned to Naruto and placed a kiss at the corner of his mouth then brought their foreheads together for a second. She repeated the action with Sasuke.
"Take care of each other. Have each other's back. Keep each other safe. If you don't, then I'll come find you and kick your asses" The boys chuckled as Roxanne smiled. Wrapping her arms around their necks, she brought their forehead together for another minute and finally they let go. Wiping her face and gave one last huff, she smiled.
"What are we waiting for? The faster we leave the faster you'll be back!" Naruto chuckled as Sasuke smiled as they turned to head out when Roxanne yelled.
"Wait! I have an idea" She said before disappearing and reappearing with a scroll writing ink pen. The boys looked at her confused, then blushed completely red when she dropped to her knees in front of them both.
"Uh?"
"Shh"
They could not actually see what she was doing but if anyone were to walk in at that moment then they'd have no idea how to explain. A second later, She stood up with a shit eating grin.
"Done"
"What did you do?"
"Since you'll be walking a long distance, it's only fair to one up your weights"
"One up?" Naruto ask as he looked to his ankles.
"How much?"
Roxanne smirked "I suggest you don't start by running to the gates, you have to ease into them" She tossed the ink pen on the table and went to the door, gesturing for them to go first after she open the door.
Naruto and Sasuke looked at each other then took the first step.
"Oh my god! You expect us to walk in these?"
"How much did you do?"
"Level 3 for Naruto and that's 10 Lbs. Sasuke is now level 2 and that's 5 Lbs" She smiled as they looked at her like she grew a third head.
"Come on guys! After a couple miles, you won't even feel them anymore, I mean you didn't feel them before now and it's like training while on the road. By the time you get back it'll be like you don't feel them anymore and we can one up again"
Naruto had anime tears running down his face while Sasuke was pinching his nose and shaking his head.
"Do we have a choice?"
"Yes but do you really want to take the easy way to getting stronger?"
Sasuke sighed and slumped his shoulders while looking to the ceiling.
"No" Naruto said meekly.
"Listen, it'll be fine. I mean I've one up mines and I'm heading to Rock country" That got their attention.
"What level on you on?"
"Seventh level and that's 50 Lbs" She said proudly as she walked out the door.
"50!?" both boys yelled as Roxanne laughed, closing the door behind them and making sure it is locked. She walked over to the railing and stood on top of them, facing the boys. Blowing them a kiss, Roxanne backflipped off the building and fell. Naruto and Sasuke ran to the railing only to see her running across the top of the buildings, heading for the North Gates.
"Someday, we're going to be able to run with 50 lbs weights and not feel a thing like she does"
"When that day comes, she'll be on a higher level than us and who know how much weight that is. Come on of we're going to be late" Sasuke said as he held his hand out for the blonde to take, which he did without hesitation and they walked down the step that leads out of their apartment building.
